4.982 - It has been suggested Friedrich Franz III committed suicide. He suffered from chronic asthma
and spent a number of months each year at his Villa Weden, a large Italian-style palace he had built near Cannes. Although he was quite ill he had
for some unknown reason gone outside his villa and was found dead in the road at the foot of the 25 feet high wall surrounding the villa. However an article from the NY Times 15 April 1897 reported the official account of his death. Friedrich Franz went into the garden which was his custom when encountering difficulty in breathing. Possible due to giddiness he fell over a low wall into the street below injuring his spine and died an hour later. |

According to The New York Times the marriage of Duke Heinrich Borwin and Elizabeth Pratt which took place in Dover, Kent in 1911 was declared null and void in 1913 by a special court in Rostock as the Duke's guardian had not consented to it. In June 1921 two of Elizabeth's children filed a suite against her and Alien Property Custodian to recover a vast sum of money, $63 million each which had been seized by the Alien Property Custodian.
