So who is Neil McEachern?

A search of the Internet came up with the Gazetteer for Scotland for Captain Neil Boyd Watson McEacharn (1884-1964) a garden designer, born in Garlieston (Dumfries and Galloway), the son of Anglo-Australian shipping magnate Sir Malcolm Donald McEacharn (1852-1910), It also mentions he built a renown garden surrounding what became known as the Villa Taranto.

A further search of the Internet located Villa Taranto and its biographical details for Captain Neil Boyd McEacharn mentions he was born on 28 October 1884 in Garlieston from a well-off Scottish family, who owned a big shipping company, rich iron- and coal- mines and large estates in Australia. He died on 18 April 1964 on the veranda of Villa Taranto with a view of his beloved garden.

A search of FreeBMD has entry in Births Dec 1884 for Neil Boyd W. McEacharn Kensington 1a 175 suggesting a possibility this is the same individual as that mentioned above but born in London rather than at Garlieston (Dumfries and Galloway).

A search of Ancestry has a Baptism record (ref: Kensington and Chelsea, Saint Matthias, Earls Court 1884) for Niel Boyd Watson McEacharn (parents Meleden Donald McEacharn and Mary Ann Dutton McEacharn).

An inspection of the scan of the actual baptism entry suggests the name of the baby could be Neil rather than Niel and also that of his father could be Malcolm rather than Meleden.

The scan of the baptism entry in the margin indicates the baby Neil Boyd Watson McEacharn was born on 28 October 1884 which is the same as in Villa Taranto suggesting this is one and the same individual.
