August is our “quiet period” when most of our user groups close down for their holidays and we can use this time to carry out some of the major works on the premises.

The main task this August will be the installation of new gas heaters in the main hall and the small hall. These new heaters will be more powerful as well as more efficient, so we will save fuel because of a shorter warm-up period before sessions commence, as well as because the gas is burnt more efficiently. Thus in modern jargon our “carbon footprint” will be reduced.

We have also obtained quotes for the remaining jobs of fitting a new carpet and painting the corridor, as well as painting the ladies’ toilet and the vestibule.

Another planned improvement is to move the sound system console in the church to the rear, and to upgrade the whole system. The new “studio” will need an operator for each service. We have one volunteer for this, but a volunteer for the position of back-up operator would be most welcome. Any budding studio engineers out there? Please contact Roger Flint or Tony Manning!

While we cannot promise that all these jobs will be completed by September, any subsequent disruption will be kept to a minimum.
