This year, 2007, NETWORK celebrates twenty years! Twenty years ago Women’s Fellowship and Women’s Work came together to form the WOMEN’S NETWORK of the Methodist Church . I believe the word “network” should have been included somewhere in the church names of women’s groups or committees, but it never happened.

But MAGNET magazine has supported it from the beginning. MAGNET is a Christian resource produced by Women’s Network, for both men and women.

From the records we can see that Abbots Langley had a women’s meeting for 75 years. Bushey & Oxhey have a “First Wednesday Club” and Carpenders Park & South Oxhey have a “ Ladies Circle ”. Croxley Green have a “Tuesday Friendship Group” and Kings Langley have a “Ladies Circle” and “Guild”, while North Watford have a “Wives Group”. Bury Lane (Rickmansworth) have a Friendship Club, and St Mary’s (Rickmansworth) have a “Women’s Fellowship”. St Andrews’ records do not show such a group, but Watford Trinity have a Prayer Group. Some of these groups do have men members.

On 15 th September at Central Methodist Church, Morley, Mrs Pamela Turner will be commissioned as Connexional President for Women’s Network, and on 19 th – 21 st September, Women’s Network residential event at Swanick, Derbyshire, has chosen the theme “Where are we going?”

To support our local Network funds please bring any spare garden produce, fruit and vegetables, for sale after church in the hall on Sundays. All money raised will go to the good causes supported by Network, the 2007-8 theme being “Stop the Traffick”, modern day slave trade. To obtain your copy of MAGNET please talk to Elsie Dodman, 264 730.
