Elsie Dodman writes: Thank you for subs received for the four
2008 MAGNET magazines. A reminder for those who have not yet done
so, please see me at church or leave your sub for me in an envelope

An article
in the MAGNET winter issue, No 80, headed “God
on our Streets” tells us about Street Pastors, who walk the
streets in groups between 10 pm to 4 am each night in town areas.
Last year one of our Sunday preachers told us about this wonderful
organization: there is a group operating in Watford. It does sound
fairly dangerous, yet the thing is that 30% of our Street Pastors
are over 65 years of age, and at least 70% are women. We are told
the story of a young man who got off a train late at night and
was feeling vulnerable and threatened by a group of lads hanging
about at the end of the road. A 69 year old woman and her group
walked him home safely.
Also in the winter issue is a lovely coloured picture of four
stained-glass windows in Peel Cathedral, on the Isle of Man.
In the next
issue the debate on “Winter Festival”,
renaming Christmas, is featured.
