Route Directions

From Crossfield Hall Car Park cross road at pedestrian crossing. Turn left, cross road bearing right past Co-Op on left, around to right with railings and stream on left. Through narrow alleyway to road, cross over and turn left with Corn Exchange and Bank on left.

Q1. Who is named on the statue on left?

At Romsey Conservative Club turn right, 30m cross road into Church Place and past Abbey on left. Through black bollards, bear left on road [The Abbey] and at T-junction turn right. Straight on over river bridge bearing left past War Memorial Park on left. Cross another river bridge and continue on path with field on right, through wooden gateway over bridge around Sadler’s Mill [Note plaque on wall]. After 15m turn right between houses on wide gravel track. After another 15m, at Test Way signpost.

Q2. Name carved on signpost?

Turn right onto Test Way. Through metal gate then through kissing gate into field keeping fence on right. Cross stiles [bent bridge] continuing on path following Test Way to cross wooden bridge between smallish trees. Bear left on path across field to far corner. Over stiles and wooden bridge into Squabb Wood with fence on right. Over stile onto well defined path over plank bridges following Test Way through wood for 800m. Turn right at junction [tall Countryside Service signpost] continuing on Test Way over plank bridge then through open rough area. Continue on path for 40m then turn right at signpost and notice posts to exit Squabb Wood onto wide track. Up slope with electric fence on left then after 100m turn right through gap in hedge with signpost on right. Stay on wide track with hedge on left to road. Turn left, 30m bear left [Footpath signpost] on wide track, between hedges, to road. Turn right on road past school entrance sign on left.

Continue downhill, turn right to cross railway bridge keeping on road [Care] to junction. Cross main road [Care] straight on track to left of Duke’s Head PH. 50m turn right at sign ‘Footpath Ersion’ and follow to riverbank. Turn right alongside river to road at white-railed bridge. Turn left over bridge and follow pavement 400m until just before Garden Centre. Turn left on laid-brick drive and at brick letterbox/entry-phone pillar on right turn left, first with wood panel fence on left then river on right. Cross river and continue in same direction along opposite bank. Ignore the first obvious path turning to right, continue 5m and turn right on second obvious path, continuing ahead over wooden walkway and bridge. Continue over concrete bridge and bear left with streams on both sides to X-tracks at canal.

Turn right alongside old canal on left for 2500m to main road. Down steps and turn right, past Garage and over road at traffic lights. Cross to left hand side of road, past Methodist Church, around left bend.
