We were fortunate that in the week leading up to the event we had escaped the worst of the heavy rain which had flooded much of the nearby countryside. However the River Avon inconsiderately decided to burst its banks on the Saturday morning prior to the short Woodhenge Womble necessitating a small detour for those wishing to keep dry feet. Perhaps a warning for the rain we experienced Saturday night which certainly made up for all we had missed recently. Luckily once the rain had abated shortly before daylight the accompanying gale force winds had the effect of drying a lot of the chalk tracks. In places the going was muddy, mostly soft elsewhere for the entry of just over 500. The long distance walkers set off to an overcast sky which gradually improved during the day and only one short sharp heavy shower dampened the proceedings as the temperature warmed up to give a very pleasant Spring-like day.
Thanks to all those that supported the event and hope to see you all again on the last complete weekend in January next year.
