Our key activities for 2008 will be:

Human Rights for China - As the Olympic torch approaches China for its momentous entry into the Olympic stadium, the stage is overshadowed by China's deteriorating human rights situation. This deterioration is happening not just despite the Olympics, but because of the Olympics.

Djamel Fahassi is an Algerian journalist who "disappeared" after being arrested in Algiers in 1995. We write regularly to the Algerian authorities to to try to get information about Djamel, what happened to him, and where he is now. We also remain in touch with his wife and daughter.

Sudan - The Cardiff Group has long campaigned for human rights in Sudan. The current focus is on Darfur where the 2 million people driven from their homes are still at risk of unlawful killing, displacement, rape, detention, torture, starvation and disease.

The Death Penalty - Amnesty International opposes the death penalty in all circumstances. The key focuses are presently on China, execution of child offenders and continued regular actions for people facing imminent execution.
