Dermot Weld in Ireland
Decent miler on the flat, has the class to make the grade, if taking to hurdles

Abacus
chestnut gelding Be My Native {USA} - Millers Run

One of the better point to pointers in Ireland last term and is an interesting prospect, particular as he’s joined the Pipe yard

Alexander Prize
bay gelding Miner's Leap - Just Our Luck

Willie P Mullins in Ireland
Useful bumper in Ireland last term, disappointed at cheltenham, but look potentially one to note for a return visit in March 2000

Alpha Blues
chestnut colt Acatenango {GER} - Alpha Belle
4
Jim Dreaper in Ireland
Formerly trained in Germany, fourth behind Kayf Tara at Deaville in August. I certain Jim Dreaper will look after him and should be placed to win races this term

Aonfocalelie
bay gelding Be My Native {USA} - Stamp of Glory
7
Edward J O'Grady in Ireland
Came up against the best of Ireland's bumper horses last term, and a reproduction of that will enable him to find some races in Ireland this season.

Avalon Buck
bay gelding Buckskin - Lilly's Way
6
Venetia M Williams
Winner of a point to point in Ireland bought for 28,000 guineas, at Doncaster Sales. An embryonic chaser who should pay to follow over the smaller obstacles this term

Baie des Singes
bay gelding Royal Vulcan - Mikey's Monkey
5
Henry D J Daly
Second in his only run so far at Warwick {Looked the winner on the home turn}. He doesn’t have to improve much to be capable of winning over jumps this term

Ballinclay King
bay gelding Asir - Clonroche Artic
5
Ferdy Murphy
Looked special when winning a bumper at Ayr, and not disgraced at Punchestown subsequently. Held in high regard by his trainer, he is a banker to win this season, and may be a very useful recruit

Ben Cohan
bay gelding Brush Aside - Lornaaron
6
Kim C Bailey
Winner of a point to point in Ireland. Like several in this list, will be an embryonic chaser who should do well this term, but may be a better proposition next season

Bilverderin
bay gelding Bob Back {USA} - Straw Berret {USA}
5
Sarah Collins in Ireland
Very useful bumper horse last term in Ireland. Has only to translate that ability to hurdles to score, and may develop into one of their better young prospects

Brother Ernest
brown gelding Phardante {FR} - Minerstown
4
Geoff A Hubbard
Well bred individual, who will need time but may pick up a small novice hurdle or two before going onto better things next season

Brother Joe {NZ}
chestnut gelding Hula Town {NZ} - Olivia Rose {NZ}
5
Phillip J Hobbs
Finished 2nd in the New Zealand St Leger last year, may appreciate a trip over jumps, but should pay to follow

Bruthuinne
chestnut gelding Vaquillo {FR} - Portane Miss
4
Henrietta C Knight
Winner of a point to pint in Ireland, and is a chasing prospect in a few season’s time. should be up to winning this season over hurdles

Canasta
bay gelding Buckskin {FR} - Bell Walks Fancy
5
Mark A Pitman
Very useful multi winning bumper horse, who has to be one of the bankers in this list to win this season

Cardiff Arms {NZ}
bay gelding Lowell {NZ} - Shuzohra {NZ}
5
Venetia M Williams
Former Derby winner in Australia. He caught my eye when running a really good race in listed company a month ago. Looks very useful, and is one of the better horses in this list

Catherinethegreat
bay filly Petoski - Catherine Bridge
4
Henry D J Daly
As yet unraced filly. Nicely bred, and could win a mares hurdle or two.

Ceanannas Mor
brown gelding Strong Gale - Game Sunset
5
Nicky J Henderson
Full brother to Stormyfairweather, bought from Edna Bolger’s yard. bred to be a decent horse, and hopefully will have a good introductory year.

Crocadee
bay gelding Rakaposhi King - Raise the Dawn
6
Venetia M Williams
One of the best ‘bumper’ horses of last term. Very impressive at Bangor, and then not disgraced in Championship Graded races afterwards. Will be very hard to beat this season

Dancing Kris
bay horse Kris - Liska's Dance
6
Ian P Williams
Well bred individual who has useful handicap form in France. Trainer rates him highly and expects him to make up into a decent novice hurdler

Delicio
brown gelding Roselier {FR} - Grey's Delight
6
Chris Parker
Nice horse who won a bumper last term. He should be up to scoring on the Northern circuit this time around.

Derrintogher Yank
bay gelding Lord Americo - Glenmalur
5
Simon E H Sherwood
Ran in a couple of decent bumpers last season, but would still have been on the weak side. Whilst he not a world beater, he should improve this term, and win over a trip

Diklersbrush
bay gelding Brush Aside {USA} - Dikler Gale
6
Nicky J Henderson
Winner and placed in Irish point to points. I should think he can win over hurdles this term but is really a long term chasing prospect

Doight's d'Or {FR}
bay gelding Sanglamore {USA} - Doigts de Fee {USA}
4
Paul R Webber
Ran a couple of decent races last season in this country, but probably was still on the weak side. Whilst he not a world beater, he should improve this term

Enrique {GER}
chestnut gelding Niniski - Eicidora {GER}
4
Phillip J Hobbs
Enrique is a winner on the flat in Germany and can win at his trainer’s local tracks over jumps

Father Mansfield
bay gelding Phardante {FR} - Lena's Reign

Nicky J Henderson
Winner of two point to points in Ireland last term. Is obviously therefore a chasing prospect, but is thought to possess enough speed to win over hurdles

Fortville {FR}

Winner of an point to point in this country. Well thought of by the trainer and should be up to winning over hurdles

Gus Cunningham
brown gelding Bustomi - Crazie Annie

Temperament in abundance but very able when putting his mind to it. Will win a race or two if they manage to conserve his energy for the track.

Hamish
brown gelding Rakaposhi King - Kellemba
4
Henry D J Daly
As yet unraced horse, but is a nice type and is a bread and butter type, who can win around the smaller tracks

Happy Change {GER}
chestnut horse Surumu {GER} - Happy Gini {USA}
5
Venetia M Williams
Over-hyped Group horse from Germany who was touted as a possible challenger for Istabraq’s crown. Probably over the top, but must win if placed in novice company

Hati Roy
bay mare Lafontaine {USA} - Stage Debut
6
Henrietta C Knight
Winner point to pointer in Ireland, should be up to winning hurdles races, particularly the mares-only variety

Haut Cercy {FR}
bay gelding Roi de Rome {USA} - Mamoussia {FR}
4
Henry D J Daly
This is one I like, he came here unraced but had one run in a bumper, making an eye-catching performance to finish third. May well win a bumper before going onto better things this term

Hello de Vauxbain {FR}
bay gelding Le Nain Jaune - Quadrille de Cuy
4
Henrietta C Knight
Winner of a bumper in France in May, limited form so far in France, but the sort of horse that might improve in Henrietta Knight’s care

Hey Guy
bay gelding The Bart {USA} - Evening Grove
6
Howard Johnson
Yet another point to point winner from Ireland, we must have bought them all !!!. Trainer likes this one and hopefully he can win around the Northern circuit, but like so many in this list, chasing will be his game

5
Simon E H Sherwood
As yet unraced horse but like by his trainer and could win a race or two this term.

Hitman
bay gelding Contract Law - Loveville
4
Mark A Pitman
Decent Listed type when last ran for Henry Cecil. Picked up an injury and is now with the powerful Pitman Stable. Highly thought of by them, and Cheltenham is already on the agenda... an interesting recruit

Hyperion du Moulin II {FR}
bay gelding Kedellic {FR} - Mipour {FR}
4
Previously trained by Captain Tim Forster
This is one I like, he came here unraced but had one run in a bumper, making an eye-catching performance to finish third. May well win a bumper before going onto better things this term

Ibex
bay gelding Gunner B - {Unknown}
5
David Pipe
Winner of a English point to point last term. Slowly learning his craft and could win under rules, if transferred to Daddy’s yard

Ingonish
grey gelding Be My Native {USA} - Mystery Rose

Useful bumper horse in Ireland, possibly didn’t quite show that at Cheltenham. Must do well this term if taking to hurdling

Invictress {DEN}
bay filly Prince Nab - Joe's Lake
4
Phillip J Hobbs
Former Winner of the Danish Oaks, is probably one of the more interesting horses to come from that sphere in recent years

Itsonlyme
bay gelding Broken Hearted - Over the Arctic
6
Venetia M Williams
Winner of three bumpers last season. Should be placed to good effect by his trainer over hurdles this term

Jack the Bear

Winner of an Irish point to point, should win over hurdles this term but is really a long term chasing prospect

Winner on the Flat in New Zealand, should be able to find success around the Northern circuit.

John David
bay gelding Broadsword {USA} - Celtic Well
6
Mark A Pitman
Well regard by the trainer and has already shown promise in bumpers, I expect him to step up on this over obstacles.

Kaiserstolz {GER}
bay gelding Sure Blade - Kaiserstreue
6
Ian P Williams
Useful form on the flat in Germany, Kaiserstolz is an interesting arrival from those parts. I’d be disapointed if he didn’t win this term.

Lastman {USA}
brown gelding Fabulous Dancer {USA} - Rivala {USA}
4
Jonjo O'Neill
Disappointed last term for David Nicholson and is now with Jonjo O’Neill’s yard. He was very useful on the flat previously, and might have been found easier pickings by the move up North.

Maousse Honor {FR}
brown filly High Honour - Maousse {FR}
4
Martin C Pipe
Typical Martin Pipe early season French purchase. She has already created a big impression in sauntering to wins on the summer jump circuit at Worcester and Newton Abbot. She pulled up very sore last time and as a result she may not appear again, but she has the scope to jump fences and might be useful in mares only races.

Master Henry {GER}
bay gelding Mille Balles {FR} - Maribelle {GER}
5
Venetia M Williams
Useful flat horse in Germany/France. Would be a decent recruit, if he translates that ability to obstacles

Mestre Sala {FR}
bay gelding Al Nasr {FR} - Light Lida {USA}
4

Decent bumper who didn’t really show his true potential in the Cheltenham Bumper. Must win a race or two this season, before going onto better things next term

Michel des Moeurs {Fr.}
bay gelding Northern Fashion - See That Girl
5
Paul F Nicholls
A multi winner on the flat in the Provinces, He comes over with a tall reputation. One of the best foreign breds Paul Nicholls has taken care of.

Mr Lamb
grey gelding Deploy - Caroline Lamb
4
Martin C Pipe
Winner of a bumper, and has the unenviable tag of being one of the most expensive horse bought at a sale. Don’t know whether that was money well spent but he can win his share of races this term

Mysilverriverfeale
brown gelding Be My Native {USA} - Calamiare
5
Patrick J O'Flynn in Ireland
Ran well in bumpers in Ireland, possibly may struggle since he lacks the scope of some of the horses in this list. however is an able sort and must do well this term if taking to hurdling

Nervous O'Toole
bay gelding Mister Lord {USA} - Dooney's Daughter
4
Mark A Pitman
Looked good when winning a bumper at Worcester last term and one to note over hurdle, probably only over the minimum trip

Oa Baldixe {FR}
grey colt Linamix {FR} - Bal d'Oa {FR}
5
Noel Meade in Ireland
Very good on the flat in France, went over to Noel Meade’s yard with a tall reputation. Unfortunately ran poorly when the yard was out of sorts and as a result should be given another chance

Ososhot
bay gelding Teenoso {USA} - Duckdown
6
Venetia M Williams
Winner of a bumper last term at Ludlow, and this half brother to Celtic Shot may surprise and make up into a decent novice

Pippin's Ford
bay gelding Shahanndeh - Shakoura
4
Paul F Nicholls
Winner of his only run in a bumper in Ireland by a distance, can develop into a long distance novice hurdler

Rodock {FR}
bay horse Leading Counsel {USA} - High Light {FR}
5
Martin C Pipe
Formerly trained in France winner of his only run at Auteuil, interesting bred and may make up into a useful novice hurdler.

Roman King
bay colt Sadlers Wells {USA} - Romantic Feeling
4
Micky D Hammond
Very lightly raced type on the flat, looked a nice prospect when winning his last race at Haydock, and not surprisingly was snapped up by a jumps yard, though I hope for connections that the 80,000 guineas was well spent.

Sandy Duff
chestnut gelding Scottish Reel - Not Enough
5
Paul R Webber
I like this horse, not over-faced by his trainer last term, and still won a bumper, Sandy Duff can develop into a nice hurdles prospect this time around.

Shotgun Willy
chestnut gelding Be My Native {USA} - Minorette's Girl
5
Paul F Nicholls
Ran well in bumpers last term when on the weak side. Can win over hurdles, if he’s mature enough to handle the rigors of the game

Special Agenda
bay gelding Torus - Easter Blade
5
Noel T Chance
Winner of an three Irish point to points, and should be up to winning over hurdles, but like many of these will be a much better proposition next season.

Sweet Kari
bay gelding Lashkari - Sucre Fan
4
Simon E H Sherwood
Winner of an Irish point to point, and should be up to winning over a trip this season over hurdles

Tees Components
bay gelding Risk Me - Lady Warninglid
4
Mary Reveley

Tenseesee {FR}
bay gelding Murmure {FR} - Chattanoogachoo
4

Recently arrived from France after being successful over hurdles and fences {3 times}, looks an interesting long term prospect to race in England this season

The Extra Man
bay gelding Sayaarr {USA} - Chez Georges
5
Mick J Ryan
Lost his way after winning a bumper. He is nicely handicapped over hurdles and exploit that mark if he’s matured

Toggi Dancer {NZ}
bay gelding Victory Dance - Solfatara {NZ}
6
Nicky G Richards
Useful bumper horse who a couple last term. Should win over obstacles this season, an may appreciate a trip

Ulundi

Lady Herries
Unraced half brother to Wince. Interesting recruit to jumping, if taking to the game

Via de la Valle
chestnut gelding Nearly a Rose - Willabelle
5
Nicky J Henderson
Winner of an Irish point to point, and should be up to winning over hurdles this term

Warwick {GER}
bay colt Aspros - Wladislawa {GER}
4
Mary Reveley
Decent form on the flat in Germany, Warwick is the sort of animal Mary Reveley places well over hurdles. A useful acquisition

Willy Willy
chestnut gelding Master Willie {USA} - Monsoon
6
Dai L Williams
An expensive purchase, buy Dai William’s standard, nice looking individual and one to note for the season, maybe in handicap company

ONE TO JUMP - 1999/2000 National Hunt Season

sECTION 1

sECTION 2

Below are a list of horse I suggest are worth following throughout the current season.

Two immediate comments. A lot of these are babies and may not live up to my expectations. However I believe successful punters can make a profit by taking a long term, and this list is really intended to cover the next 18 months, not solely the current season.

Secondly I make no apologies for so many being from overseas. I am simply continuing the trend I’ve follows successfully over the last four seasons, but which now is very trendy to do. There are other advantages. French breds are better schooled generally than our younger horse, it is not unusual for horses to be schooled every day, and it shows. I don’t have as many reservation backing these types over fences as I do some English trained horses first time out over fences

i’m also not surprised at the latest influx of German breds horses. Jump trainers are able to pick up Group horses at half the price the top class French and Irish breds are currently fetching. If they are taught to jump properly they have an obvious advantage and have a good wins to run ratio.

 One of the interesting horses in this list is Invictress, who is a former winner of the Danish oaks. If she succeeds over hurdles she may herald a return to buying horses from Danish waters.... I will be watching her season with interest.
