"ONE TO JUMP!!" 2000

BUMPER HORSES

Unnamed full brother to Monsignor bay gelding Mister Lord - Dooney´s Daughter
Trained by - ?
Comments - That's right its not even named yet (as far as I know) but Monsignor's full brother is due to go in bumpers this term. Having cost his owner 100,000 guineas, I hope he has some of his brother's ability

B B BOY brown gelding Arctic Lord - Belle Nugent
Trained by - Kim Bailey
Comments - As yet unraced four-year-old bought at this May's Doncaster sales. Related to The Proclamation and could be anything.

BYRON LAMB grey gelding Rambo Dancer - Caroline Lamb
Trained by - Nicky Richards
Comments -: As yet unraced three-year-old from an extremely fruitful bloodstock line, Sir Lamb, Mr Lamb are two half brothers that have won races recently. Hopefully he can show some promise this season in bumpers

CALKO DU CHANMIL (FR) bay gelding Cadalko (FR) - Licada (FR)
Trained by - Mary Reverley
Comments - Calko Du Chanmil is only three and never ran in France, He is going to appear in the second half of the season, but is pleasing connections

DARK-EYED DICK bay gelding
Trained by - Paul Webber
Comments - As yet unraced gelding that caught my eye on a Racing Channel trainer file. Looks a nice sort, and we'll see how he gets on in bumpers.

DESIGNER LABEL bay gelding Insan - Belle Babillard
Trained by - Mark Pitman
Comments - Designer Label also caught my eye on a trainer file. This fellow has size and scope and has done everything expected of him thus far at home.

FIRST DAY COVER bay gelding Toulon - Bilbury
Trained by - Noel Chance
Comments - He cost IR70, 000gns and will be trained for the Land Rover Bumper at Fairyhouse in the spring. He could be anything

FIRST FLIGHT brown gelding Neltino - The Beginning
Trained by - Kim Bailey
Comments - Studying the results of the Doncaster Sales also paid dividends as I spotted this individual who is a full brother to the highly promising pointer Itsgoneoff who I have no doubt would have made it to the top bar injury.... He's another bumper horse to note this time around

ISARD III (FR) grey gelding Royal Charter (FR) - Aurore D´ex (FR)
Trained by - Martin Pipe
Comments - As yet unraced four-year-old bought at this May's Doncaster sales... again could be anything

JAMESON bay gelding Broken Hearted - Seyona
Trained by - Mark Pitman
Comments - Gave notice that he was a possible star when galloping impressively with Ever Blessed and Ashley Park. Confirmed that impression with an easy success in a Sandown bumper. May well be kept to bumpers this term with the Cheltenham affair being his target...Jameson is very talented, and could be anything

JAZZ D'ESTRUVAL (FR) grey gelding Bayalidaan (FR) - Caro D'Estruval (FR)
Trained by - Nicky Richards
Comments -: As yet unraced three-year-old bought at GOFFS France sales... hopefully he can show some promise this season in bumpers

Jumpty Dumpty (FR) brown gelding Chamberlin (FR) - Caryatide (FR)
Trained by - Guilliame Macaire
Comments - As yet unraced gelding who has a great jumping pedigree. He is the sort of horse that Guilliame Macaire will be seeking to sell to a British trainer so hopefully he demonstrates that he possesses ability..

LET'S FLY (FR) bay gelding Rose Laurel (FR) - Harpyes (FR)
Trained by - Mary Reverley
Comments - Lets Fly is a nice looking individual. He is pleasing connections, and should appear in a bumper before too long

NO COLLUSION bay gelding Buckskin - Miss Ironside
Trained by - Noel Chance
Comments - A promising type from the family of Large Action, he is more of an old-fashioned steeplechaser, but hopefully will have the pace to win a bumper.

SAXO DU ROCHER (FR) bay gelding Beyssac (FR) - Fabinou (FR)
Trained by - Jim Dreaper
Comments - As yet unraced gelding but is well thought of by connections ... could be anything.

SHUIL DO
Trained by - Henrietta Knight
Comments - As yet unraced but well regarded mare, subject to positive reports at home ... could be anything

YOUNG DOUGLAS chestnut gelding Alphabatim (U.S.A.) - Strong Language
Trained by - Mark Pitman
Comments - Patriarch's full-brother. As yet unraced, who Mark Pitman spoke positively of on his recent trainer file on the Racing Channel. I have to say I liked the look of him too ... here's hoping

JUVENILE HURDLERS

ADELPHI THEATRE (U.S.A.) bay gelding Sadler's Wells (U.S.A.) - Truly Bound (U.S.A.)
Trained By - Mark Pitman
Comments - Adelphi Theatre is a winner at two when with Aidan O'Brien, who only raced him the once when well beaten at Leopardstown in June. Could well leave that form behind him over hurdles this winter

BELLE D'ANJOU (FR) bay filly Saint Cyrien (FR) - Epsibelle
Trained by - Martin Pipe
Comments - Belle D'Anjou was one of the horses that I had in a small list to cover the early season and she has already 'made hay' and has now won five times this season (once at Auteuil). She is definitely the best juvenile seen out thus far, and may not have finished her winning spree

CAESAR'S PALACE (GER) chestnut gelding Lomitas - Caraveine (FR)
Trained by - Martin Pipe
Comments - Twice a winner on the flat when trained by Criquette Head, Caesar's Palace does look the sort of animal that will win races around the lesser tracks (Is already twice a winner here

DIBEA TIMES (FR) bay gelding Sheyrann - Cerise Royale (FR)
Trained by - Malcolm Jefferson
Comments - Christopher Iles on his 'Focus on France' Page said of Dibea Times "Dibea Times is already a winner over hurdles at Auteuil in May - the race he won is quite a significant one. Called the Prix Wild Monarch, it is restricted to 3 year olds making their first appearance over hurdles, and seems to attract horses that their trainers consider potentially top-class. The previous 2 winners have done very well - Grand Seigneur placed in the French 3 year olds' championship race in November, before winning the big juvenile hurdle at Lingfield in December".

Malcolm Jefferson sees him as a chaser of the future; so don't be too surprised if he has a light campaign.... He is a lovely prospect though

DREAM WITH ME (FR) bay colt Johann Quatz (FR) - Midnight Ride (FR)
Trained by - Charlie Egerton
Comments - A recent purchase at the latest GOFFS France sale, this useful handicapper on the flat ran creditably during the summer and won most recently at Deauville in August. They paid a lot for this one so I'd expect a high profile campaign with him

ELEGANTISSIME (FR)
bay gelding Nashwan - Riviere d'Argent (FR)
Trained by - Kim Bailey
Comments - He is one of 20 horses I noted that were sold at Goffs France July Sales. Elegantissime is beautifully bred individual who showed plenty of ability with Criquette Head on the Flat in France. I don't think he's as good as some of these shown, however, hopefully he is up to winning a race or two this term.

FRUIT DEFENDU (FR) bay colt Exit to Nowhere (U.S.A.) - Pauvresse (FR)
Trained by - Noel Meade
Comments - A recent purchase at the latest GOFFS France sale, Fruit Defendu also ran creditably in Handicap Company on the flat, winning most recently a 10-furlong handicap at Longchamp in May. Noel Meade is a great placer of horses and will certainly find opportunities for this individual

GUARD DUTY bay gelding Deploy - Hymne D'Amour (U.S.A.)
Trained By - Martin Pipe
Comments - Guard Duty is a full brother to useful juvenile miler to 1m4f winner Chelsea Barracks. Martin Pipe purchased him M P Tregoning's consignment at the recent Tattersall Horses in Training Sale. Although he didn't win, Guard Duty ran creditably at distance between 1m-1m6f, being placed four times. He's bred for this game, and could well do better over hurdles this winter

GOSS grey colt Linamix (FR) - Guillem (U.S.A.)
Trained By - Franky Berry or Christy Roche
Comments - Bought at the recent 'Horses in Training' Sale, having earlier this week finished 7th to Inglenook in a listed event over 10 furlongs at Saint Cloud. Almost certainly will be trained in Ireland. Looks an interesting proposition

ISHANDRAZ (GER) grey colt Mondrian (GER) - Isla Limpia (GER)
Trained by - Martin Pipe
Comments - Don't know what to make of his flat form, (last time out he finished second in a claimer at Chantilly in July) A nice gelding who is bred for stamina, and hopefully will win a couple of races in juvenile company

JOYEUX ROYAL (FR) bay gelding Cyborg (FR) - Samba du Cochet (FR)
Trained By - Paul Nicholls
Comments - Joyeux Royal is a lovely long-term prospect that has won two AQPS (bumper) races in France. Being three he could well struggle against the better, speedier three year olds, but is a lovely prospect.

MONTREAL (FR) brown gelding Chamberlin (FR) - Massada (FR)
Trained by - Martin Pipe
Comments - There aren't very many 3 year olds sired by Chamberlin racing in this country but the sire of Challenger du Lac's progeny tend to be real chasing types. Although he never won in France, he has been placed, last timeout in a race that was run in a decent time. I'll be interested to see what sort of season he has. He looks as though he has a future.

OUT OF CONTROL bay colt (U.S.A.) - Brooklyn's Dance (Fr)
Trained by - Noel Meade
Comments - Noel Meade was certainly active at the latest GOFFS France sale, as this is another purchase he picked up at the sale. As with his other purchases Out of Control did well on the flat, successful on the last occasion in a 10-furlong event at Saint Cloud. Last time out Out of Control finished 5lengths fifth to Taalash at Clairefontaine. There should be opportunities for this individual

POLAR STAR bay colt Polar Falcon (U.S.A.) - Glowing With Pride
Trained By - Martin Pipe
Comments - Polar Star is a half-brother to several winners including Cesarewitch winner Inchcailloch and top-class hurdler Pridwell. He didn't show very much at all on the flat but looking at his pedigree it's conceivable that he'll progress with experience

SAONE ET LOIRE (FR) bay filly Always Fair (U.S.A.) - Saone (U.S.A.)
Trained By - Martin Pipe
Comments - Saone et Loire was ordinary when trained on the flat by Criquette Head, but was second on her last start at Maison Lafitte, and ran behind the likes of Bluemamba and Lady of Chad, so has some scope for placement by Mr Pipe over hurdles

STROMNESS (U.S.A.) ch c Trempolino (U.S.A.) - Caithness (U.S.A.)
Trained By - Oliver Sherwood
Comments - Stromness is another import from France, purchased from Andre Fabre's consignment at the 'Horses in Training' Sale. Stromness was a winner over 10 furlongs at Saint Cloud in May, and has performed respectably since. Believe he is now in Oliver Sherwood's care, and is one to look out for in the second half of the season

SKIBO (JPN) bay colt Carnegie - Dyna Avenue (JPN)
Trained by - ?
Comments - Currently this horse is in training with Marcus Tregoning, but I'm hoping someone has the good sense to purchase him, as this lovely scopey individual will make a lovely hurdler

SNOB WELLS bay colt Sadler's Wells (U.S.A.) - Galitizine (U.S.A.)
Trained by - Noel Meade
Comments - A recent purchase at the latest GOFFS France sale, Snob Wells is a winner at two, and was placed twice this summer on the flat most recently getting touched off in the Prix du Mont Pagnotte at Chantilly in May. Hopefully he finds a race or two this winter

ONE TO JUMP - 2000/2001 National Hunt Season

Attached is a list of horses I suggest are worth following throughout the current season.

Like last season, a lot of these are babies and may not live up to my expectations. However I believe successful punters can make a profit by taking a long term, and this list is really intended to cover the next 18 months, not solely the current season.

Again I make no apologies for so many being from overseas. I am simply continuing the trend I've followed successfully over the last four seasons, but which now is very trendy to do, so much so that a significant proportion of these, ( particularly over hurdles) have at some stage been trained overseas.

To demonstrate that I don't have a Gaelic bias, I've got the largest entry of horses I've ever had in from New Zealand, and if the likes of Cardiff Arms, Woodward Street, and Modem do well, it may well re-signal an interest in that market.

I've also avoided as much as possible putting in obvious names, so don't expect Monsignor, Istabraq, and Limestone Lad to be listed!!
