"ONE TO JUMP!!" 2000

NOVICE HURDLERS

A VENTURE TO PHAR brown gelding Phardante (FR) - Loughaderra
Trained by - Nicky Richards
Comments - Highly touted but ultimately disappointing gelding last term, having been beaten 24 lengths on his debut at Doncaster in a bumper, before unseating his pilot at Bangor in a novice hurdle. Certainly is better than that and is one to keep the right side of this term

ACOUSTIC brown gelding Orchestra - Rambling Ivy
Trained by - Owen Brennan
Comments - Formerly a useful point-to-pointer, Acoustic has had one under rules in a novice hurdle at Haydock finishing a most promising third. There is plenty of improvement to come, and whilst his future lies over fences, he is certainly capable of making an impact over hurdles

ADAMANT APPROACH bay gelding Mandalus - Crash Approach
Trained by - W P Mullins
Comments - Considering they had done very little with him, I dare say Willie Mullins was pleased with the way Adamant Approach dismissed Risk Accessor in a Leopardstown bumper in February. He must make his presence felt this winter

AIR CONTROL bay gelding Executive Perk - Sandy Jayne
Trained by - Lenny Lungo
Comments Air Control ran respectably in two bumpers last season and is the sort of horse that should find a race or two in the north this winter

ALEXANDER NEVSKY bay gelding Be My Native (U.S.A.) - Tsarella
Trained by - N J Henderson
Comments - Nice looking half brother to The Tsarevich, Alexander Nevsky has the one start winning a Worcester bumper nicely enough by 1 ¼ lengths. Another nice long-term prospect

ALL GUNS BLAZING bay gelding Un Desperado (FR) - Malone Ranger
Trained by - Kim Bailey
Comments - Only has one run behind in, in a point-to-point in Ireland. Not a bad run either as he was certainly making Best on Show (One of the best PTP horses in Ireland last term) work for success when falling two out. He probably would have been held that day, but a good effort nonetheless. Whatever he does this year he must be a future winner over fences

ARCACHON (GER) bay filly Platini (GER) - Anmut (GER)
Trained by -?
Comments - Arcachon last saw a racetrack in October 1999, when she won a 10-furlong handicap at Maison-Lafitte. She was bought at a subsequent GOFFS sale, and could find a mares race or two if well placed

AWESOME AUNT brown filly Vestris Abu - Rose-Anore
Trained by - Henrietta Knight
Comments - Awesome Aunt is another animal with whom little was done last term. It may not transpire to have been a great race but she could no more that beat Ardour Glowing, and suggested that they may more to come. Mares' only races should be within her compass

BETABATIM bay gelding Alphabatim (U.S.A.) - Lucy Platter
Trained by - Nicky Richards
Comments - I always worry about putting really big horses in lists, because they can take ages to mature, thus making then hard to predict. Betabatim is a case in point. He's had the one run but showed enough promise to suggest that he can win a race, but he's a great long-term prospect, so I put him in. May not win this winter (I hope he does) but certainly will in the future

BEETHOVEN bay gelding Yashgan - Adare Princess
Trained by - Noel Chance
Comments - Thus far unraced embryonic chaser, was in training last year and showed promise, though he didn't run because his trainer was anxious to give him more time. He may go hurdling, as some stage but will start off in a bumper

BEST ON SHOW brown gelding Kings Ride - Tawney Lass
Trained by - Jonjo O'Neill
Comments - Arguably the best young pointer in Ireland last term, who I believe, cost Mr McManus a pretty penny. If he translates that ability to regulation obstacles we'll hear plenty about him over the coming months

BLAZING HILLS chestnut gelding Shaab - Cottage Blaze
Trained by - Kim Bailey
Comments - Hails from the same family as Tied Cottage. This one is a winner of its only point-to-point and like many in this section is a long-term chasing prospect

BLUE bay colt Bluebird (U.S.A.) - Watership (U.S.A.)
Trained By - Noel Meade
Comments - Useful handicapper when trained by Amanda Perrett winning most notably a decent handicap at Ascot. Gone to the right man to fond opportunities for him in Ireland, either on the flat or hopefully over jumps

BOMB ALASKA brown gelding Polar Falcon (U.S.A.) - So True
Trained by - Toby Balding
Comments - Assuming that there haven't burnt him out pursuing Group success, Bomb Alaska, ever since he won the Lincoln, has always struck me as the sort of horse that would win over obstacles, so I'm pleased that the owner has given Toby Balding the 'go-ahead' to pursue this venture. Should win a race or two

BROOKLYN'S GOLD (U.S.A.) bay horse Seeking The Gold (U.S.A.) - Brooklyn's Dance (FR)
Trained by - Ian Williams
Comments - Previously in training with Criquette Head. He's another purchase from the French Sales. He won in Listed company over 10 furlongs on the Flat and because of his stature should be well capable of win a race of two, assuming he takes to the game

CANYOUBATIM bay gelding Alphabatim (U.S.A.) - Boat Whistle
Trained by - Henry D J Daly
Comments - Canyoubatim won a point-to-point in Ireland and looks a nice chasing type. He'll, hopefully signal the improvement I'll be expecting when he goes over the larger obstacles.

CARDIFF ARMS (NZ) bay gelding Lowell (NZ) - Shuzohra (NZ)
Trained by - Ian Williams
Comments - Cardiff Arms, a former Derby winner in Australia. Got into last year's list when running a really good race in listed company. He looked very useful then, and ran a lot better than the final placing suggested a couple of times this term. I still think he can make an impact this winter (Since writing this he won at Aintree)

CEANANNAS MOR brown gelding Strong Gale - Game Sunset
Trained by - Nicky J Henderson
Comments - Ceanannas Mor, a Full brother to Stormyfairweather, bought from Edina Bolger's yard is bred to be a decent horse, but disappointed if the truth were known. Another year on his back and time to mature and who knows...

CEDAR GREEN brown gelding Bustino - Explosiva
Trained by - Kim Bailey
Comments - A lovely looking horse, who is bred to get no further than five furlongs. He has won two point-to-points in Ireland, and by all account jumps well and should be ready to go novice chasing in the next few weeks.

CHIVES bay gelding Good Thyne (U.S.A.) - Chatty Actress
Trained by - Miss H C Knight
Comments - Chives impressed on his debut, dismissing Usk valley by 5 lengths at Sandown. He then performed creditably behind Joe Cullen in the Cheltenham Bumper. You'd be hopeful that a horse with those credentials would win a few races this winter

CONQUER bay gelding Phardante-Tullow Performance
Trained by - Henry D J Daly
Comments - Conquer came to my attention after he won a maiden point-to-point at Bitterley, in a very quick time, three seconds slower than the Men's Open that day. He won it very nicely, too, and I thought he'd do really well in that sphere this time around, the fact he is going under rules is probably a bonus ... One to Note.

CYRIAN bay gelding Persian Bold - Regina St Cyr
Trained by - Martin Pipe
Comments - Former winner of the Northumberland Plate who missed last term because of injury. Could be a useful staying novice this time around

DARK'N SHARP (GER) brown horse Sharpo - Daytona Beach (GER)
Trained by - Richard Phillips
Comments - Don't know anything about this one, but I do like the look of him. I believe he had useful form in Germany and judging by the breeding may want a soft surface.... Could be anything

DARK SHELL bay gelding Darshaan - Grecian Urn
Trained By - N icky J Henderson
Comments - Winner of a Listed race for Sir Michael Stoute last year. Transferred to Nicky Henderson after a problem in the spring, and could be anything should he takes to hurdles... One to note

DEOCH AN DORAIS bay gelding Supreme Leader - General Rain
Trained By - N icky J Henderson
Comments - Deoch An Dorais ran six times in bumpers last term, winning once at Naas, and progressing with each of his performances. He did as much as could have been asked of him last term and may improve again for being in Nicky Henderson's care.

DIRECT ACCESS bay gelding Roselier - Spanish Flame
Trained by - Lenny Lungo
Comments - Direct Access is the biggest horse in Lenny Lungo's yard. He won a point-to-point in Ireland and is from a real National Hunt family. He's a great, long-striding horse and we won't be in a hurry with him. He will start in three-mile hurdles, but his future will be over fences.

ETON (GER) chestnut gelding Suave Dancer (U.S.A.) - Ermione
Trained by - Venetia Williams
Comments - Eton could be a risky choice. Certainly is a good looking individual, who was well fancied on his only start over hurdle, but this ex German animal disappointed behind Silence Reigns at Ludlow in March. I suspect he is better than that but might need to go into handicaps before finding success, that said I have no doubt that despite his breeding he'd jump a fence

FATHER MANSFIELD bay gelding Phardante (FR) - Lena's Reign
Trained By - N icky J Henderson
Comments - A point-to-point winner in Ireland two seasons ago who appeared in last year's list but did run because of injury.

FULL MINTY brown gelding Phardante (FR) - Jouvencelle
Trained by -Alan King
Comments - Full Minty showed promised in two races last term, and is probably better judged on his 2 3/4lengths 3rd to Hard To Start on his initial start. He is another horse that I'd expect to have improved with that experience, and hopefully is up to winning a race or two this time around

GARRUTH grey gelding Good Thyne (U.S.A.) - Lady Sipash
Trained by - Tim Easterby
Comments - Purchased at DONCASTER SALES, Garruth had average form last term under rules in Ireland, but was it was a different story between the flags, where he won a couple of races. A likeable individual who should pay to follow around the northern circuit

GET IT DONE bay gelding Good Thyne (U.S.A.) - Super Athlete
Trained by - Edward J O'Grady
Comments - Get It Done has only made one start under rules, but a 6lengths defeat of Oldtown Court at Gowran Park suggested that there was more to come this time around

GIANLUCA brown gelding Un Desperado (FR) - Belwood Girl
Trained by - Charlie R Egerton
Comments - Gianluca is another bumper horse that only made the one visit to the racetrack, but it was a very impressive one, cruising on the bridle throughout before putting 11 lengths between himself and his opponents. The value of the form I suppose logically is open to question, but if he takes to the jumping game (reportedly not at present) then he could be a very interesting individual

GOLA CHER bay gelding Beau Sher - Owen Money
Trained by - Alan King
Comments - As yet unraced but well regarded individual who I certainly like the look of. He won a point-to-point in Ireland in the spring, and is a middle distance/stayer chaser in the making, but can serve notice to that this winter over hurdles

GUNG-HO b/brown gelding
Trained by - Mark Pitman
Comments - Gung-Ho has only had one run to date, when winning a bumper at Fontwell. He is a nice individual who may be kept to bumpers term before embarking on a hurdling career; I suspect the latter is more likely

HARD TO START - bay gelding Supreme Leader - Sea Skin
Trained by - Phillip J Hobbs
Comments - He won a bumper well at Kempton last season, and then went to Cheltenham and finished seventh to Joe Cullen. He'll want 2m4f and soft ground over hurdles. You'd be disappointed if a horse that possesses this level of form didn't progress this term

HISTORG (FR) b g Cyborg (FR) - Kalliste (FR)
Trained by - Ferdy Murphy
Comments - Historg, who was previously trained by François Doumen, has been placed round Auteuil and Vichy and like Heidi Iii last season could do well in the north in novice hurdles, but is a chasing prospect.

HAMAC II (FR) bay gelding Luchiroverte (FR)- Obole Iii (FR)
Trained by - Arthur L T Moore
Comments - As you sift this list, it will become apparent that I like the fashion method of bringing horses along slowly that Arthur Moore has so successfully adopted over the years. He also buys his fair share of stores horses from France. Hamac Ii is one such horse. He has had three runs to date being placed in a hurdle before winning a 17-runner bumper at Fairyhouse. He may not be a Cheltenham prospect but I expect he'll win his races this term.

HERMES III (FR) chestnut gelding Quart de Vin (FR} - Queenly
Trained By - N icky J Henderson
Comments - Hermes Iii is a winner in the French Provinces, who may well be campaigned along the lines of Tenseesee, but unlike that horse he'll want to the mud to be flying for him to be effective.

HITMAN bay gelding Contract Law - Loveville
Trained by - Mark A Pitman
Comments - Hitman was a decent Listed class animal when last ran for Henry Cecil. Picked up an injury and is now with the powerful Pitman Stable. Highly thought of by them and Cheltenham is already on the agenda. He'll have to do a lot better than his poor effort at Kempton last Boxing Day

HUSSARD COLLONGES (FR)
Trained by - Peter Beaumont
Comments - Hussard Collonges has only had the one start, when he won a maiden point-to-point. I know the trainer likes him and he obviously is a long-term prospect, however hopefully he can show some promise this time around

IACACIA (FR) brown gelding Silver Rainbow - Palencia (FR)
Trained by -?
Comments -Formerly in the care of Francois Doumen, you might remember Iacacia making a promising second appearance in a Sandown novice hurdle won by Urban Hymn, where he was staying on when falling at the last. He has since won over hurdles at Enghien, and should find races this term, may be tried over fences this term

IBIS ROCHELAIS (FR) bay gelding Passing Sale - Ta Rochelais
Trained by - Terry Casey
Comments - Ibis Rochelais showed promise on two starts over hurdles last term without success, but looks the sort of animal that will improve for the experience this winter

I GOT IT (FR) grey gelding Agent Bleu (FR) - Una Rosa (FR)
Trained by - Arthur L T Moore
Comments - Typical French bred stores horse that Arthur Moore seems to specialise in purchasing. He has ability as well having won his only start in a Gowran Park bumper. Hopefully he'll improve again this term when he goes hurdling

IL'ATHOU (FR) brown gelding Lute Antique (FR) - Va Thou Line (FR)
Trained By - S E H Sherwood
Comments - Another future chasing prospect. Il'Anthou's most recent piece of form is a second over fences in the 'Prix P. Charlery de la Masseliere' over 2m11/2f at Seiches in February. Almost impossible to equate that performance but Il'anthou is a nice enough sort, who may pay to follow over the next couple of seasons

ILICO II (FR) bay gelding Trebrook (FR) - Tulipp D'Avril (FR)
Trained by - Philip Hobbs
Comments - An expensive purchase at the recent Goffs France sale Ilico Ii has thus far only had two starts over hurdles, winning the second one at Auteuil. This half brother to Fulip should find more success this season, wherever he ends up

IMAGE DE MARQUE II (FR) bay filly Royal Charter (FR) - Tourbrune (FR)
Trained By - Martin Pipe
Comments - Image de Marque Ii is an interest prospect, as she has decnet form over hurdles, and fences against some useful performers. She could start over either code, and still be effective

IMPEK (FR) bay gelding Lute Antique (FR) - Attualita (FR)
Trained By - Miss H C Knight
Comments - Bought out of Francois Doumen's yard at the recent Goffs Sale after winning three bumpers in France, Impek is a future chaser (not as though the stable needs one!!), but could well make his mark over hurdles in the meantime

IRIS DU BUTEL (FR) bay gelding Passing Sale - Tigresse de L'Isle
Trained by - Mary Reverley
Comments - Ran once in France, finishing second. He's a big, chasing sort, who because of his age (four) will be looked after this year.

IT TAKES TIME bay gelding Montelimar (U.S.A.) - Dysart Lady
Trained by - Martin Pipe
Comments - After showing good form when winning bumpers at Leopardstown (twice), finishing in front of the likes of Tuesday, and Tempting Touch. It was a little disappointing then that It Takes Times was below par in the Cheltenham Bumper, but clearly he is better than that and may well leave that form behind this winter

IZNOGOUD (FR) bay gelding Shafoun (FR) - Vancia (FR)
Trained By - Martin Pipe
Comments - Iznogoud is another purchase from Francois Doumen's yard. He has shown some ability, as has been placed over hurdles, and should be able to find a race or two.

JEAN D'AUTEUIL (FR) bay gelding River Sand (FR) - Santa Marta (FR)
Trained by - Martin Pipe
Comments - A purchase from the 1999 GOFFS FRANCE July sale. Cant find any form on him but I believe he has run (probably in the provinces). Either way I hope he can find me a winner or two

JOE CULLEN chestnut horse River Falls - Moycullen
Trained by - Willie Mullins
Comments - Thus far unbeaten individual who really impressed me when storming up the Cheltenham hill to dispose of Inca & Co in the Cheltenham bumper (And although I was on, that didn't cloud my judgement). On decent jumping ground I'd expect him to make an impact this winter

JOHN DAVID bay gelding Broadsword (U.S.A.) - Celtic Well
Trained by - Mark A Pitman
Comments - Well regarded by his trainer and has already shown promise in bumpers. He missed last term but I expect him to make up for lost time over obstacles this winter

KICKHAM bay gelding Supreme Leader - Knocknagow
Trained by - Edward J O'Grady
Comments - Kickham may well repay Edward O'Grady for the kindness he showed him in only giving him the one start in a bumper last year at Punchestown, where he beat Summer In Siberia (also in this list) by 4 1/2 lengths. He should have a good season

KING ADAM bay horse Fairy King (U.S.A.) - Sailor's Mate
Trained By - ?
Comments - King Adam is a half-brother to useful 1m winners Sea Spray and performer Cunning Vixenand and French 1m 4f winner Cutlass. He always seems to not quite 'cut it' in Group company, he managed to get the wrong side of Dubai Millennium at Royal Ascot. It is with a little surprise that he got sold at the Tattersall 'Horses in Training' Sale, and I would have thought he would a very interesting novice hurdler in the making. He has been purchased by Rita Shah, who does have jumpers trained in Ireland, so he may well be destined for that this season

KING OF THE CASTLE bay gelding Cataldi - Monashuna
Trained By - Mrs Amanda J Bowlby
Comments - Very useful bumper when trained by Jenny Pitman. If he has fully recovered from his injuries he could be a decent novice this term

KING WIZARD - bay gelding Supreme Leader - Magic User
Trained by - Philip Hobbs
Comments - This sort of horse walks onto my list each year ... A big, backward embryonic chasing type. He showed some ability in novice hurdles last season and wound up with a second over 2m4f, but definitely was on the weak side. He's hurdling again for the time being, but might do even better if put over fences.

KELTIC HERITAGE grey gelding Roselier (FR) - Peek-A-Step
Trained by - L A Dace
Comments - Keltic Heritage, purchased at Doncaster Sales in May is a winning point-to-pointer in Ireland (On two occasions). Hard to evaluate, but if placed well could be interesting

LANNKAR bay gelding Bob Back (U.S.A.) - Lankarana
Trained by - M C Pipe
Comments - Aga Khan 'cast off' who impressed on his initial start when winning a Ludlow bumper by 23 lengths. With hindsight his defeat by Patriach subsequently doesn't look a bad effort and I find it hard to imagine that martin Pipe won't find him a winning opportunity or two

LIBIDO bay gelding Good Thyne (U.S.A.) - Country Mistress
Trained by - Henry D J Daly
Comments - Another English pointer to join Henry Daly's yard. He won his only point-to-point, and is another long-term chasing prospect in the list

LIFE IS LIFE (FR) bay filly Mansonnien (FR) - La Vie Immobile (USA)
Trained by - Michael A Jarvis
Comments - Michael Jarvis has such a good record with his jumpers, so for that reason alone Life is Life is worth noting. In actual fact, this filly is a top class middle distance/staying filly on the flat. A 5th in the Gold Cup behind Kayf Tara, and placed performances behind the likes of Daliapour, Yavana's Pace, and Persian Punch will read well when there eight flights of hurdles in front of her. If she takes to obstacles she must win races

LISS A PAORAIGH bay mare Husyan (U.S.A.) - Shuil Liss
Trained by - John E Kiely
Comments - If I were honest, Liss A Paoraigh wouldn't be in this list if I hadn't done a special feature on the Punchestown Festival. I was pleased with er previous effort at Clonmel and selected her to win at Punchestown. After travelling well throughout, she stayed on well to put 3 1/2 lengths between herself and her nearest rival Far Horizon. Hopefully she continue in the same vein over hurdles

LUSSINO (FR) bay colt Esprit Du Nord (U.S.A.) - Lumiere Du Feu (FR)
Trained by - Kim Bailey
Comments - This horse is a winner of four races in France on the flat. He could well make into a nice hurdler this term

NERVOUS O'TOOLE bay gelding Mister Lord - Dooney's Daughter
Trained by - Mark Pitman
Comments - Monsignor's half-brother. A very attractive type who won his bumper impressively at Worcester in the spring of 1999, but finished in a distressed state after both of his runs last season. He went to Bristol University's equine centre where a problem was diagnosed and, hopefully, corrected. He'll run at the end of next month.

NATIVE NEW YORKER
bay gelding Be My Native (U.S.A.) - Sunbath
Trained by - Richard Rowe
Comments - Native New Yorker has only had the one effort under rules, winning a Tipperary bumper. He's a nice long-term prospect probably in the mould of Gigolo Gerry who should improve as the season goes on

OATH OF ALLEGIANCE
chestnut mare Supreme Leader - Kasam
Trained by - Mary Reverley
Comments - Won a bumper last season, then finished unplaced in a hot race at Cheltenham in April. She didn't seem good enough on the day, but she has a turn of foot and will be running in novice hurdles over 2m before long.

O J SELYM bay gelding Be My Native (U.S.A.)- Myle Avenue
Trained by - Henry D J Daly
Comments - O J Selym won a point-to-point in Ireland last year and, although I don't know much about the value of his form, he does look a nice long-term prospect.

PHAR FROM A FIDDLE brown gelding Phardante (FR) - Lucyello
Trained by - Oliver M C Sherwood
Comments - Phar from a Fiddle was one of the best 4-year-old point-to-pointers in Ireland last season, and is a very interesting long-term chasing prospect. I like him a lot

PRIESTTHORN bay gelding Denel (FR) - Pollys Flake
Trained by - Robert Alner
Comments - Promising winner of his only point-to-point last term, Priestthorn is now in the care of Robert Alner. Definitely a horse with a future, but will hopefully run creditably this season under rules

PROMINENT bay gelding Primo Dominie - Mary Bankes (U.S.A.)
Trained by - M W Easterby
Comments - Another English point-to-pointer in the list, Prominent carried all before him winning six times including the prestigious Grimthorpe Gold Cup. He should be capable of finding races under rules

PUNCHY brown gelding Freddie's Star - Baltimore Fox
Trained by - Mark Pitman
Comments - Punchy has only one run to date, when winning a bumper at Fontwell. He is another nice individual who may be kept to this sphere this term before embarking on a hurdling career

QUADCO bay gelding Be My Native (U.S.A.) - Anega
Trained by - P A Fahy
Comments - Anyone who saw Quadco's success in the Aintree could not be impressed with the change of pace he showed on that occasion. He will surely be a potent force this term if he polishes up his jumping; (his poor run at Ballinrobe may have been as a result of a leg injury)

RAINFOREST brown gelding Be My Native (U.S.A.) - Nanny Kehoe
Trained by - P R Webber
Comments - Rainforest showed promise in two bumpers at the end the end of last season. He may be still on the weak side but is a nice horse that could win around the smaller tracks, probably in the second half of the season

REGAL STATESMAN (NZ) brown gelding Vice Regal (NZ) - Hykit (NZ)
Trained by - Owen Brennan
Comments - Very likeable individual who has shown sign of ability in two novice hurdles. This ex New Zealander is a chasing of the future, but may make his presence felt around Brennan's favourite venues

RESCATOR (FR) bay gelding Saint Estephe (FR) - La Narquoise (FR)
Trained by - Martin Pipe
Comments - Rescator had the one start in a Fontwell Park bumper, where he put 14 lengths between himself and his rivals. A lesser light in the Pipe stable but one probably capable of further success around the smaller tracks

RITH AR AGHAIDH chestnut mare Phardante (FR)- Shuil Ar Aghaidh
Trained by - E Stanners
Comments - For such a well-bred mare Rith Ar Aghaidh was very disappointing, showing very little ability on her last start at Ludlow. She may have needed more time and therefore I've given her the benefit of the doubt, though she's probably the riskiest one in the list thus far

RIVERTOWN (NZ) bay gelding Oak Ridge (FR) - Star Habit (NZ)
Trained by - Mrs A J Perrett
Comments - Rivertown hasn't shown in truth very much on the flat this summer/autumn, but this attractive ex New Zealander may be a totally different proposition with eight flights of hurdles in front of him

SABRINSKY (FR) bay colt Polish Precedent (U.S.A.) - Charmante Dame (FR)
Trained by - Noel Meade
Comments - Another purchase at the latest GOFFS France sale, Sabrinsky ran creditably in Handicap Company on the flat, winning most recently a mile handicap at Longchamp in April. Noel Meade should find opportunities for this individual

SAOR THEAS chestnut gelding Phardante (FR)- Siberian Princess
Trained by - Christy Roche
Comments - Saor Theas is a nice staying hurdler/chaser in the making, if his two starts this season is anything to go by. I certainly don't entertain the view that once a horse is defeated it should be written off, and I took t he view watching his last effort at Punchestown that further improvement will occur as the season progresses, particularly when he's stepped up in trip.

S'ASSAGIR (FR) bay gelding Shining Steel - Dalticia (FR)
Trained by - Nicky J Henderson
Comments - S'Assagir has only had two runs in bumpers but showed promise in both efforts at Wetherby and Fontwell. As he was well supported on each occasion, he can be expected to improve on this time around

SCHUH VENTURE bay gelding Little Bighorn - Elegant Miss
Trained by - Lenny Lungo
Comments - He ran in a couple of bumpers last season and was fourth to stable companion Skippers Cleuch at Carlisle first time out. He was a bit weak, but he's grown stronger since he's been out at grass. This time he will be going novice hurdling and, although we'll start him off at two miles, he will stay further.

SEEK brown colt Rainbow Quest (U.S.A.) - Souk
Trained By - Jim A B Old
Comments - Anyone who follows my flat selections knows how highly I hold Seek, so to have learnt of his arrival to Jim Old's yard is possibly the best news I've noted for a while. I think he has the right constitution to make a jumper, furthermore Luca Cumani never really 'went to the well, too often' with him, and he should have plenty of scope for improvement

SHER ROYAL bay gelding Beau Sher - Last Royal
Trained by - Kim Bailey
Comments - Sher Royal won the second on his two point-to-points after falling when challenging for the lead on his debut. He is more than likely to be campaigned over hurdles this year but is another long-term chasing prospect

SIGMA DOTCOMM bay gelding Safety Catch (U.S.A.) - Dream Academy
Trained by - Noel Meade
Comments - After two good efforts in bumpers at Punchestown and Leopardstown at the beginning of the year, Sigma Dotcomm made a satisfactory debut over hurdles behind Aunt aggie at Navan. He'll come on for the experience, and should find races this term

SKIPPERS CLEUCH brown gelding Be My Native (U.S.A.) - Cloughoola Lady
Trained by - Lenny Lungo
Comments - A lovely Be My Native gelding related on his damside to Cavity Hunter a useful handicapper in his day. He won his three bumpers last season, (something few horses do) and looks set fair for a great season, he could be very decent, although I suspect that will be when he goes over the larger obstacles. I like him a lot.

SOEUR DE SENTIER bay mare Emperor Fountain - Path's Sister
Trained by - S Gollings
Comments - If you ignored her last run behind Quadco at Aintree, it would be hard to fault this mare. A nice winner of her debut race at Doncaster, it is forgotten that she came a respectable 6th in the Cheltenham bumper, only 13 lengths behind Joe Cullen. Given the right conditions, I'm sure she'll win over hurdles this term

SUMMER IN SIBERIA bay gelding Soviet Lad (U.S.A.) - Have A Nice Time
Trained by - Willie P Mullins
Comments - Promising second to Kickham in what may prove to be an extremely useful bumper, summer in Siberia should be good enough to find success this term

TEES COMPONENTS bay gelding Risk Me - Lady Warninglid
Trained by - Mary Reverley
Comments - Tees Components a winner of a bumper is well regarded, and wont be over-faced by Mary Reveley, this season, he has so much pace that she is intending to try him on the flat next season (another Mellottie maybe). Watch out for his appearances and he should find a race

THE BAJAN BANDIT bay gelding Commanche Run - Sunrise Highway VII
Trained by - Lenny Lungo
Comments - A big, strong, well-balanced five-year-old who was purchased at Doncaster last year. He's won his only start, a bumper at Carlisle, really sticking his head out without being hit. He'll go over hurdles this term and should win his races.

THE HOODED FALCON chestnut gelding Broken Hearted - Bonne Fair
Trained by - Noel Meade
Comments - The Hooded Falcon is the winner of his only start thus far in a Fairyhouse bumper. Noel Meade thinks that The Hooded Falcon is a very nice prospect, who I'm sure will find races this term.

THE MASK (FR) chestnut colt Saint Estephe (FR) - Mare Aux Fees
Trained by -?
Comments - If the Mask has been bought to go hurdling he is one of the most exiting prospects in the list with good placings behind the likes of Kingsalsa to his name. Sold at the GOFFS France sale, destination unknown (to me). If it's a hurdling campaign then worth keeping an eye out for

THE RILE bay gelding Alphabatim - Donna Chimene
Trained by - Lenny Lungo
Comments - A big, honest, staying type. He won his bumper in the soft at Carlisle last season and will be going over hurdles. He is another who is a long-term chasing prospect.

TIK-A-TAI bay gelding Alphabatim (U.S.A.) - Carrig Ross
Trained by - Oliver M C Sherwood
Comments - Tik-A-Tai was one of the best 5-year-old point-to-pointers in Ireland last season, and is a very interesting prospect for the future. From what I've seen of him he should be more than able to hold his own over regulation obstacles this winter

TROUT SECRETS (NZ) bay gelding Sir Trout (U.S.A.) - Tuna Jill (NZ)
Trained By - N icky J Henderson
Comments - Very highly regarded in New Zealand, where Anthony Bromley purchased him on behalf of Trevor Hemmings. He was a successful jumper there, and I'm looking forward to running him.

TUESDAY bay gelding Satco (FR) - Beechglen
Trained by - W P Mullins
Comments - Tuesday, last seen finishing fourth to Liss A Paoraigh in the Punchestown Festival bumper has had a really good first season under rules, and that performance plus a good 4th in the Cheltenham equivalent suggest that he will be one to consider if he takes to obstacles (reportedly has done extremely well through the summer, and interestingly has been entered up already in novice chases)

TYNEANDTHYNEAGAIN bay horse Good Thyne (U.S.A.) - Radical Lady
Trained by - Norman B Mason
Comments - Unraced but likeable individual who knowing his trainer is likely to be well educated this season. He is a chasing prospect for who whom signs of ability is a bonus. (N.B. Has run creditably twice so far, and looks certain to find races this season

VILLAIR bay gelding Valville (FR) - Brackenair
Trained by - David Stoddart
Comments - Villar a promising 3rd to Phar Jeffen in his only start under rules was placed in a point-to-point at Crumlin last season. David Stoddart (former owner/breeder of Party Politics) should have fun with Villair this season

WARWICK (GER) bay gelding Aspros - Wladislawa (GER)
Trained by - Mary Reveley
Comments - Warwick with decent form on the flat in Germany, showed promise on both start over hurdles last term, but showed signs of temperament. He did sustain an injury in his last start and therefore may have an excuse for that effort but certainly one to be wary of if that was repeated

WOODWARD STREET (AUS) bay gelding Coronation Day (AUS) - Super Unicorn (AUS)
Trained By - N icky J Henderson
Comments - Woodward Street could revive the purchase of Australian bloodstock if he has a good season. He has useful form there, and has at least gone to a 'useful trainer!!!'

WORLD WIDE WEB bay gelding Be My Native (U.S.A.) - Meldrum Lass
Trained by - John E Mulhern
Comments - World Wide Web, a Promising seventh to Kickham in an extremely useful bumper, should be good enough to find success this term

YANN'S (FR) bay gelding Hellios (U.S.A.) - Listen Gyp (U.S.A.)
Trained by - Richard Phillips
Comments - Don't know much about this one other than I believe he had useful form in France/Germany.... Could be anything. I like him when I saw him on a Trainer File on the Racing Channel…. "On Spec" so to speak !!!

ONE TO JUMP - 2000/2001 National Hunt Season

Attached is a list of horses I suggest are worth following throughout the current season.

Like last season, a lot of these are babies and may not live up to my expectations. However I believe successful punters can make a profit by taking a long term, and this list is really intended to cover the next 18 months, not solely the current season.

Again I make no apologies for so many being from overseas. I am simply continuing the trend I've followed successfully over the last four seasons, but which now is very trendy to do, so much so that a significant proportion of these, ( particularly over hurdles) have at some stage been trained overseas.

To demonstrate that I don't have a Gaelic bias, I've got the largest entry of horses I've ever had in from New Zealand, and if the likes of Cardiff Arms, Woodward Street, and Modem do well, it may well re-signal an interest in that market.

I've also avoided as much as possible putting in obvious names, so don't expect Monsignor, Istabraq, and Limestone Lad to be listed!!
