Analysis & Selections by
.i.l. .r.o.o.k.
- Whether it be "the
race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs, we will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the fancied horses participating each day and their characteristics and requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides you with a winner or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a particular may even convince you to back some of those horses which we feel are the "ones to fear", or have decent eachway claims. whichever is the case, we hope the information is of use to you.
SELECTIONS - For each race, we have given you who, in our view, are the likeliest winners;
(1er CHOICE), as well as
the next best runners (in our view, this can include any horses who could run well at eachway
odds). Any runner from our features are shown before each race's analysis.

¦ .i.l. .r.o.o.k. ¦:¬>Seven line-up for the opener on Cappenelle's Derby day card. Of these, Golden Devious, Golden Jade, Le Vie Dei Colori, Night Spectr, and Passing Time have already won this term. Le Vie Dei Colori, unbeaten in two starts, who beat Golden Jade here over 1000m last time out is a confident selection
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬> Le Vie Dei Colori,
¦ 2nd Choice ¦:¬> Night Spectr,
¦ 3rd Choice ¦:¬> Golden Jade,
15:10 Premio Carlo D' Alessio per cavalli di 4 anni ed oltre / p.grande (2800m 227150 Euro)

¦ .i.l. .r.o.o.k. ¦:¬>Narrative , from Godolphin's yard is an interesting entry in the second race on the card. This former John Oxx inmate has been in good form in Nad El Sheba, winning three of his last two starts, including the Dubai City Of Gold (Sponsored by Concord) (Group 3), where he beat Grandera by 3 1/4 lengths. Fascino, a winner of three prizes in Italy this year has maturity (he's seven) and "home advantage" and could go close .. however he shouldn't be good enough
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬> Narrative
¦ 2nd Choice ¦:¬> Fascino
¦ 3rd Choice ¦:¬>Shibu's Elk
15:45 Premio Carlo Chiesa per femmine di 3 anni ed oltre / p.grande (1600m 77000 Euro)

¦ .i.l. .r.o.o.k. ¦:¬> Akanta, Blu Valentine, Cincischiando, Dea Vesta, In The Night, Lonicera, Sorella Luce, Tesoretta, Torrigiana, and Valroy all can be considered in an open mile event Cincischiando, who beat all bar Godolphin's Najah in the Premio Lydia Tesio - Darley (Group 2) (Fillies & Mares) here over 1m2f here in October must go well if fully wouldn up for this. She is just preferred to In The Night, and Sorella Luce, who have both been in winning form this season
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬> Cincischiando,
¦ 2nd Choice ¦:¬> Sorella Luce,
¦ 3rd Choice ¦:¬> In The Night,

¦ .i.l. .r.o.o.k. ¦:¬> Seventeen line up for the next, which include several of Italy's best sprinters. I'd single out Slap Shot, (who has won three of her last four starts in Italy, who didn't disgrace herself in the Prix de Saint-Georges (Group 3) at Longchamp a couple of week ago), Oh Bej Oh Bej, who has won his last two starts with ease including trouncing a field with including Repetory, (who also finished down the field in the Prix de Saint-Georges) and Mangoyah, who didn't stay in the Italian 2000 Guineas, but came out and won easily here over 1200m last time out. I don't think they'll be a lot between them h0oweber I just prefer Oh Bej Oh Bej.
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬> Oh Bej Oh Bej.
¦ 2nd Choice ¦:¬> Slap Shot,
¦ 3rd Choice ¦:¬> Mangoyah,
16:45 Premio Domenico Arnaldi per cavalli di 4 anni ed oltre / p.grande (2400m 15000 Euro)

¦ .i.l. .r.o.o.k. ¦:¬> Setember, Love Struck, Street General, Basista, and Massipisapia appear to have the best claims in the fifth on the card. Street General, and Massipisapia met here in April over 2200m. On that occasion Massipisapia came out on top ... even at slightly revised weights I'd expect those placings to be confirm.... in fact Massipisapia has most to fear from the ultra-consistent Setember, who won here over 1800m three weeks ago, and is probably better over this sort of trip
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬> Massipisapia
¦ 2nd Choice ¦:¬> Setember,
¦ 3rd Choice ¦:¬> Street General,

¦ .i.l. .r.o.o.k. ¦:¬> A truly international field will line up for the £623,000 Italian Derby. Names that immediately leap out at me are;
Ballingarry, well beaten in the Prix Lupin (Group 1) won by Act One ... though that's no disgrace,
Kayseri who stayed on well to finished third to Fight Your Corner in the Chester Vase (Group 3)after being chopped for room slightly on the home turn;
Proven, who despite looking in need of the run, still managed to beat Miss Corniche at Newbury 37 days ago;
Long Goodbye - put in his place by Bandari in the attheraces Derby Trial Stakes (Group 3) at Lingfield last time out, however a winner in listed class in Italy last season;
I'd add to this list;
Thompson Rouge - France's representative, who finished third to Khalkevi (beaten 1
½ lengths) in the Prix Hocquart (Group 2) over this trip a few weeks ago
Irulan - an easy Listed winner of the Jean Harheim-Rennen at Koeln (Cologne) at the beginning of April
Rakti - Unbeaten in his last four starts, who put 7 lengths between himself Duca D'atri and the remainder of his rivals here over 2100m at the beginning of May.
Fisich - Just caught by Dupont in the Premio Parioli (Group 2) - the Italian 2000 Guineas
Salselon - who finished behind Fisich in the Premio Parioli (Group 2), but who'd won the Premio Pisa SIS (Listed) on his previous effort.
A difficult call .... Ballingarry looks too obvious to me.... I'll sure he'll run well, however the form of the Prix Hocquart appears to be quite decnet ... because of this Thompson Rouge gets the vote... Punter will leave the home challengers alone - especially with such a strong foreign challenge .. as a result Rathk and Salselon (who should appreciate the step up in trip here) could go off at a nice price I'll choose Ratki.
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬> Thompson Rouge
¦ 2nd Choice ¦:¬> Ratki, (e/w)
¦ 3rd Choice ¦:¬> Ballingarry
18:05 Premio Tullio Righetti per cavalli di 3 anni / p.grande (1600m 77000 Euro)

¦ .i.l. .r.o.o.k. ¦:¬> The penultimate race on the card features several horses who took part in the Premio Parioli (the Italian 2000 Guineas). Mister Cavern [4th], Quel Del Giaz [5th], Danubio Blue [13th], Rosso Pompeiano [14th], Nordhal [15th], and Sopran Ippo [last] meet useful opposition in the shape of Crepuscolo (who beat Danubio Blue, Quel Del Giaz and Sopran Ippo) here over course and distance six weeks ago, Luis Butarat (who finished fourth to Rakti here at the beginning of May) and Marcel Duchamp (a winner twice this season, most recently here over course and distance at the end of April). Crepuscolo is just preferred to Quel Del Giaz and Mister Cavern
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬> Crepuscolo
¦ 2nd Choice ¦:¬> Quel Del Giaz
¦ 3rd Choice ¦:¬> Mister Cavern
18:40 Premio Mario Perretti per femmine di 3 anni ed oltre / p.grande (2000m 38500 Euro)
¦--------{a}{t}-{t}{h}{e}-{p}{o}{s}{t}--------¦
¦ .i.l. .r.o.o.k. ¦:¬> Peonia Rosa (a winner of two of her last three starts), Gintilgalla (a winner of three of her last four starts, who was a good second to Queen Shy in a listed event here over 2100m), Mugnaga (who twice has finished behind Queen Shy this term, most recently in the same race contested by Gintilgalla here at the end of April), Trevignon (who has chances through formlines with Queen Shy and Gintilgalla) and Sopran Lombar, (a winner over 2000m at Milano a week ago) all appear to have claims in the finale ... Gintilgalla is just preferred
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬> Gintilgalla
¦ 2nd Choice ¦:¬> Mugnaga
¦ 3rd Choice ¦:¬> Peonia Rosa
