THE GALWAY FESTIVAL 2002  -

Analysis & Selections by

.a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s.

Whether it be "the race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs, we will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the fancied horses participating each day and their characteristics and requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides you with a winner or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a particular may even convince you to back some of those horses which we feel are the "ones to fear", or have decent eachway claims. whichever is the case, we hope the information is of use to you.

SELECTIONS - For each race, we have given you who, in our view, are the likeliest winners; (1er CHOICE), as well as the next best runners (in our view, this can include any horses who could run well at eachway odds). Any runner from our features are shown before each race's analysis.

"GALWAY FESTIVAL"
Sunday 4th August
¦ 1e. GALWAY ¦¬> 2:30 Treasure Island Beginners Steeple Ch. 2m. 6f. 1st - €15,275 , 2nd - €4,700 , 3rd - €2,350 , 4th - €940 21Declared

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬> Fnan, Gothic Lord, Deckie, Lord Of The Turf, Putsometnby, Mackinus, Amewsing, and Liquor Merchant, appeal the most in the opener. I wasn't impressed with Fnan's attitude yesterday, (pulled up in the handicap chase - didn't seem to be enjoying the experience). I'd pass him over in this easier company with Deckie, (who landed a gamble in a handicap hurdle at this venue last year). Christy Roche's charge makes his debut over fences here, on the back of finishing a good sixth to Lantern Leader at Killarney in a handicap. The form looks pretty solid, (especially with that horse inning earlier in the week) and he is my selection here
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬>Deckie
¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬>Gothic Lord
¦ 3rd Choice³ ¦:¬>Liquor Merchant, [e/w]

¦ 2e. GALWAY ¦¬> 3:00 Free Voicemail Maiden Hurdle 2m. 1st - €11,040 , 2nd - €2,720 , 3rd - €1,280 , 4th - €800 26Declared

¦ (ONE TO JUMP 2003) - are there any horses from "one to jump 2003" our feature which; each season, provides a list of horses to follow during the national hunt season?¦:¬>Wouldn't You Agree.
¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬>Wouldn't You Agree, Gemini Guest, Aberdeenshire, Active Member, Ontos, Better Look Out, and Bridge Hotel, look the best in the second. Two horses appeal here..... Wouldn't You Agree, who scored in great style in Monday's concluding bumper.... and Ontos, who has shown plenty of promise over hurdles, howevr I think he'll come into his own over fences. Despite Charlie Swan's presence on Ontos, I'll be hoping that Wouldn't You Agree, is another One To Jump winner this week.
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬>Wouldn't You Agree,
¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬>Ontos (GER)
¦ 3rd Choice³ ¦:¬>Aberdeenshire,

¦ 3e. GALWAY ¦¬> 3:35 GPRS H' cap Hurdle 2m. 2f. 1st - €26,000 , 2nd - €8,000 , 3rd - €4,000 , 4th - €1,600 30Declared

¦ (ONE TO JUMP 2003) - are there any horses from "one to jump 2003" our feature which; each season, provides a list of horses to follow during the national hunt season?¦:¬>Poc Fada
¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬>Pollster, African Waters, Hunters Bar, Aimees Mark, Colonel Bradley, Native Sparkle, Saspys Lad, Teknash, Circus Maximus, Cruiser, Gatso, Ski Jump, Bunts Lleep, Its The Boss, Le Sueur, Poc Fada, and Beyond Borders, all make varying degrees of appeal in the third. A number of previous winners this week turn out again here, including Teknash a 12/1 winner on day two of the meeting. Hunters Bar, [who beat Colonel Brady at Naas], and Aimees Mark, [a winner twice this term, including at Cork last time out], provide stern opposition, however a 10lb penalty may not stop him. Poc Fada, fourth in a amateurs Hdcp hurdle earlier in the week could sneak into the frame.
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬>Teknash (FR).
¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬>Aimees Mark,

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬>Samawi, Fair Replacement, Count Altanne, In The Gods, Onefortheboys, Princess Button, Sundown, Turn Of Phrase, Foxhollow Lady, and Jimjonpaddal, make most appeal in the fourth race. Samawi, who has finished second on his last three starts [most recently at the Curragh, over 7f, where he finished second to Red Fanfare], is literally "banging of the door". He deserves to win, but he may find Sundown, [who showed improvement when second to Glastonbury at Ballinrobe last time] too strong.
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬>Sundown,
¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬>Samawi,
¦ 3rd Choice³ ¦:¬>Fair Replacement, [e/w]

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬>Gold Chaser, One Won One, Jacks Estate, Lorli, Social Harmony, Bella Bella, Hadath, and Montpelier Street, are my "preferred" in the fifth. One Won One, a high-class performer on his day, ridden by Phillip Carberry catches the eye. This is a drop in class after his run behind Gateman in a Group 3 event at The Curragh last time, and he must go close... he is the selection.
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬>One Won One,

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬> Blue Russian, Niallon, Lake Millstatt, Moondarra, Cera Sifayra, Temptation Island, Camargue, Lady Semillon, Moorhall, Touchy Feelings, Abaco, and Sammagefromtenesse have chances in the penultimate race of the meeting. Abaco is a very interesting contender on his debut for Aidan O'Brien. This former useful handicapper lost his way on the flat and over obstacle. If the Master of Ballydoyle could get a tune out of him he could be interesting. I'll take a chance with him to beat Camargue, who won here earlier in the week..
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬>Abaco (USA),
¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬>Camargue,
¦ 3rd Choice³ ¦:¬>Sammagefromtenesse, [e/w]

¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬>Hobbsford,

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬>Kilcash Castle, Theseus, Laurier Roses, Snob Wells, Galway Breeze, Northern Fancy, Twokay all have chances in the opening Novice Chase. Aidan O'Brien's runner, Kilcash Castle, is certain to go off a warm favourite here, particularly after his good 2nd to Albatros (who ran so well behind Ansar earlier in the week at Wexford last time out). Theseus (who finished behind him in 4th that day), Snob Wells (a useful novice hurdler last season) and Laurier Roses (a fair 3rd at Ballinrobe last time out) all should give him plenty to think about here but should not be good enough to defeat him.
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬>Kilcash Castle
¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬>Snob Wells (e/w)
¦ 3rd Choice³ ¦:¬>Theseus

¦ 2e. GALWAY ¦¬> 3:00 Low Low Galway Blazers H' cap Steeple Ch. (Rated 0-116) 2m. 6f. 1st - €12,420 , 2nd - €3,060 , 3rd - €1,440 , 4th - €900 24Declared

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬>Monks Error, Hardiman, Irishman, Alexander Fourball, Annaghmore Gale, Scallybuck, Andretti Castle, Ballinarrid, Storm Ten, Sweet Deal, Fnan (GB), Native Performance and Brownie Return all have chances in an open handicap which comes next. This doesn't appear to be the greatest race you'll see over the coming weeks and it might be worth siding with top-weight Hardiman who should have benefited from his run at Kilbeggan 2 weeks ago, his first effort since the end of October. He is preferred to Annaghmore Gale (a consistent horse who has been placed in his last 3 starts), Fnan who will have benefited from his first experience of fences (he finished just in front of Hardiman) and Alexander Fourball (who won his last start last term at Listowel)
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬>Hardiman
¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬>Annaghmore Gale
¦ 3rd Choice³ ¦:¬>Alexander Fourball

¦ 3e. GALWAY ¦¬> 3:35 Dawn Milk H' cap Hurdle 2m. 5f. 190yds. 1st - €32,500 , 2nd - €10,000 , 3rd - €5,000 , 4th - €2,000 19Declared

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬>Discerning Air, Billy Bonnie, Colonel Bradley, Vatirisk, Pollster, Aimees Mark, Rathbawn Prince, Yayo, Bennie's Pride and Texas Ranger all have chances in a competitive-looking handicap hurdle. Mother-to-be Discerning Air makes a quick appearance after routing a field earlier on in the week. Pregnancy clearly agrees with her and I can see her going close here, however, I'll be brave and take a chance that Billy Bonnie can reverse form on previous meetings with the likely favourite. They have met twice in the last 2 months on the flat - on both occasions, Discerning Air has come out on top. Discerning Air's hurdles form isn't as impressive therefore I'm hopeful that Billy Bonnie can capitalise. Yayo is another who ran well earlier in the week - this lightly-raced grey gelding was staying on at the death behind Lantern Leader over 3m. He may be able to sneak a place.
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬>Billy Bonnie
¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬>Discerning Air
¦ 3rd Choice³ ¦:¬>Yayo (e/w)

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬>The Great Gatsby, Mobane Flyer, Akash and Gaelic Park appear to be the horses to concentrate on in the 4th. In this weak field, it is difficult to oppose Aiden O'Brien's runner The Great Gatsby who finished only 3/4 lengths behind Mejhar on his debut at Tipperary 10 days ago. Akash (who ran well behind Hold That Tiger on his debut at Leopardstown) could go well at each-way odds.
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬>The Great Gatsby
¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬>Akash (e/w)

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬>Feabhas, Mejhar, King's Mountain (USA), Annamoe Boy, Lady's Mantle, Lazer Lass, Top Of Jumbo and Penalty Clause are my preferences in Race 5. Having selected The Great Gatsby in the previous race, naturally, a good performance from him should boost the chances of Mejhar. Only Navan winner Annamoe Boy and Feabhas (a winner earlier in the week at this meeting) represent the only threats. I think he can see off Annamoe Boy, however he may find the improving Feabhas too strong and adversary. She is the selection.
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬>Feabhas
¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬>Mejhar
¦ 3rd Choice³ ¦:¬>Annamoe Boy (e/w)

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬>Quadco, Elapour, The Cushman, Dakinie, I'vehadit, The Baltimore Man, Moscow Retreat, Leos Shuil, Woods, Monitor, Load And Lock head the market for the sixth race on the card. It was nice to see Quadco return to something like his best form earlier this week - his win here over 2m on Tuesday was reminiscent of his win in the Aintree Bumper a couple of years back. He is sure to go well here, however, I still believe that there is more to come from Elapour, although I must confess on the face of it he has plenty to do having finished 16 3/4 lengths behind Quadco in that Amateur race earlier this week. I thought he was given too much to do that day and I would hope that given a more positive ride, he was able to improve significantly on that effort...or that's my assumption... Here's hoping!!
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬>Elapour
¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬>Quadco
¦ 3rd Choice³ ¦:¬>I'vehadit

¦ 7e. GALWAY ¦¬> 5:35 Kerry Maid Festival I.N.H. Flat Race 2m. 1st - €9,660 , 2nd - €2,380 , 3rd - €1,120 , 4th - €700 30Declared

¦ (ONE TO JUMP 2003) - are there any horses from "one to jump 2003" our feature which; each season, provides a list of horses to follow during the national hunt season?¦:¬>King Of The Arctic,
¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬>Mind The Square, King Of The Arctic, Royal Alphabet, Always Game, Felix The Great and Paddy's Girl make most appeal in the finale. The market should be the best guide in the last. Whilst you can stick with the proven form of Mind The Square (2nd at Tipperary two weeks ago), or Always Game (a fair 3rd at Navan in a maiden hurdle 3 weeks ago) there are a couple of newcomers which catch the eye. Royal Alphabet (a son of King's Theatre who appears to have a flat pedigree) will no doubt find a race in time. However, Dermot Weld's King Of The Arctic catches the eye. This 4-year-old son of Arctic Lord was a winner between the flags last season and showed plenty of potential in that discipline. He appears to have the potential to develop into a useful novice hurdler in due course - hence his inclusion in this season's One To Jump feature. He is the selection.
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬>King Of The Arctic
¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬>Mind The Square
¦ 3rd Choice³ ¦:¬>Royal Alphabet

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬>Poc Fada, Wadsworth, Sheer Martina, Penny Farthing, Heart of Armor, Chanoud, Percussion, Hot Bunny, Donodala, Native Lucy, and Springfield Guest. head the market for this 2 ½-mile handicap hurdle. . Wadsworth, [a fair third on his most recent appearance at Uttoxeter behind Pure Brief], Heart of Armor , [sure to come on well for his spin around Kilbeggan behind Cruiser two weeks ago] and Sheer Martina [a close second to Mullahoran at Down Royal on his latest start] all should go well, however I'll be hoping that Poc Fada can get his head in front for the first time. He showed plenty of promise last term ,- his best run was arguably behind Marcus Du Berlais at Tramore in January. This is his fourth racecourse appearance, which may mean he isn't the easiest to train, however I took the view he should improve as he matures - hence his inclusion in ONE TO JUMP 2002 .... and this year's renewal..... he is the selection.

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬> Sharena, Sadinga, Revue, Eckbeag, Tinquest, Really and Helen Wells, make most appeal in the second. Sharena, [a fair second behind Glandore (beaten ¾-lengths) at Killarney over 1m-3f], and Sadinga, [second on two of her three starts this term, most recently at Cork over 1m-4f, where she was beaten 4lengths behind Ridakiya] look best of these, although a market move for Revue [not beaten very far on his debut over a mile at Leopardstown], could be significant. Sharena is just preferred.

¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬> Revue,
¦ 3rd Choice³ ¦:¬> Sadinga,

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬> Sparkey Smith, Dante's Battle, Givenchy De Solzen, Young Whack, Half Barrell, Donadino, and Snow Dragon make most appeal in the third. The ground is softer than several of these prefer which makes it particularly unattractive as a betting opportunity. Our policy is that we provide a winner a race and therefore , with that in mind, I offer Sparky Smith as a token suggestion. He is best on faster ground but can handle softer conditions and didn't run too badly at Tipperary behind Temony in their Galway Plate trial. Snow Dragon who has no problems with regards to the ground, has run well enough of late to worth being my eachway alternative.
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬> Sparkey Smith,

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬> Mobasher, Queens Wharf, Millstreet, Last Theatre, Marigold, Media Puzzle, Bubble N Squeak, Aquila Oculus, Moonbi Ridge, and Osprey Ridge, caught the eye in the main race on today's card. Queens Wharf, [the winner of his last three starts most recently at Leopardstown over 1m-6f, where he put 1-½lengths between himself and Slaney Sand], Mobasher, [the winner of his last two starts, most recently at Naas over 1m-3f], Millstreet, [placed in all of his three starts this term, most recently when chasing home Almost Famous at Leopardstown (beaten ¾-lengths)], and Last Theatre, [a good third to Margarula at Leopardstown last time out] look to be the horses to concentrate on. Mobasher, off of only 8-2 makes plenty of appeal, however I'll take a chance with the progressive Millstreet. Bubble N Squeak, [a mudlark, who is on a hatrick having won her last two starts most recently at Tipperary] might nick a place.
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬> Millstreet.

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬> National Honour, Oriental Ben, Eurolink Rooster, Gerobies Girl, Hadath, Heemanela, Royal South, Common Venture, Fast And Furious, Proletariat, and The Block Monster appeal in the fifth. Heemanela, and Eurolink Rooster are closely matched on their recent meeting at Bellewstown at the beginning of last month. On that occasion. Heemanela came out on top finishing a length ahead of Eurolink Rooster. Having won this event last year, there are plenty of punters that will stay loyal to Heemanela, however everything is in Eurolink Rooster's favour here, and I'd take him to reverse placings here. National Honour, an unexposed four year old hailing from Dermot Weld's yard should be too far away, whilst topweight Proletariat and The Block Monster can go well at eachway odds..

Adriatic, a huge disappointment on his debut at Leopardstown, could well improve enough to land t his prize, however as he hails from Dermot Weld's yard, he is likely to go off at a false price. Frankly this is another race I'd swerve, however I'll be hoping that Perugino's Shadow can build on two solid efforts to finally lose his maiden tag.

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬> Dibiya, and Beyond The Pole, appear to be the likeliest winners of the last, whilst Pasteur, Akeed, Secret Native and Aine Dubh look best of the eachway alternative. I cant see past Dibiya - pulled up over nine furlongs out on her reappearance behind Vinnie Roe at Leopardstown at the end of May, [she was subsequently found to be lame on the near-hind]. A return to her best form of last term will see her home here. Bellewstown bumper winner Aine Dubh hasn't raced for nearly 260 days, however she could still be an attractive eachway alternative.

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬>Ansar, Albatros, Temony, Vanilla Man, Darialann and Doesheknow are the horses I'd concentrate on in the opener on Day Four of the meeting. The race surely centres around Dermot Weld's runner Ansar. A good 6th in last season's Champion Hurdle, Ansar has not been seen out since finishing 4th behind Davenport Millenium at the Punchestown Festival. He would walk this if this were a hurdle race and receives weight from several of the main protagonists. Bar a fall, he should oblige. I do like the chances of Yayo from Christie Roach's yard although he is unproven at this trip. He was an encouraging 3rd at Navan on his reappearance and is sure to give a good account of himself. That same comment also applies to Message Recu who stayed on strongly to win at Limerick at the beginning of last month, Romanoski, a winner at Limerick in June, may be better than the bare bones of his most recent 6th behind Good On You Polly at Navan and Life's a Flyer ( a winner over this trip at Kilbeggan two weeks ago). Jockey bookings suggest that connections think that the lightly-raced Yayo is likely to go close here. However, I have a sneaky suspicion that both Message Recu and Life's a Flyer may outstay him. Now that Mutakarrim has found the winning habit over hurdles (he was an easy winner earlier this week) he has to be respected off of only 10st 3lbs, however J. P. McManus's trio Moratorium, Timber King and Anxious Moments do look very strong here.... I wouldn't oppose the favourite. I like the chances of Harry The Ear, [who won a 1m-4f Hcap at Limerick on his latest start], and Puck Out [ the winner of his only start, a Ballinrobe Bumper, in June, However preference is for Naahil, who has a tall home reputation, however hasn't as yet translated that to obstacles .... that said the "Dermot Weld" factor here is a huge positive .... lets hope so anyway.
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬> Naahil,
¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬> Harry The Ear,
¦ 3rd Choice³ ¦:¬> Puck Out,

¦ 2e. GALWAY ¦¬> 5:35 G.P.T. Dublin H' cap Hurdle (Rated 0-123). 2m. 1st - €13,000 , 2nd - €4,000 , 3rd - €2,000 , 4th - €800 17Declared

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬> Wimbledon, Born Flyer, Aye Aye Popeye, Fair And Lively, Artane Boys, Victor Boy, Some Buzz, Mrs Fairplay and Wadsworth all have chances in the second. Dermot Weld has another decent chance of landing the prize here with Wimbledon, who ran a satisfactory prep race for this prize, when finishing 3rd of 12 runners, behind Miss Odlum at Leopardstown last time out. I like Artane Boys and Aye Aye Popeye here. Artane Boys, who won a Bellewstown "bumper" two runs ago, before getting stuck in the mud at Kilbeggan last time out, makes most appeal ... on decent ground he has a solid eachway claim and is the selection
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬> Artane Boys, (e/w)
¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬> Aye Aye Popeye,
¦ 3rd Choice³ ¦:¬> Wimbledon,

¦ 3e. GALWAY ¦¬> 6:10 G.P.T. Access Equipment EBF (2-Y-O) (colts & geldings) Maiden. 7f. 1st - €13,975 , 2nd - €4,300 , 3rd - €2,150 , 4th - €860 15Declared

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬> Faadhil, One Nice Cat, Benicio, Abunawwas, Adalar, Bermaho, Black Santy, and Twogoodreasons. appeal most in the third. One Nice Cat, has been slightly disappointing so far for Aiden O'Brien, however in his defence he has twice run on fairly soft ground, which, may not have suited. He is preferred to the admirably consistent Benicio, [placed in each of his four starts], and Adalar from john Oxx's yard, who will come on for this experience
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬> One Nice Cat (USA).
¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬> Benicio.
¦ 3rd Choice³ ¦:¬> Adalar, (e/w)

¦ 4e. GALWAY ¦¬> 6:50 G.P.T. Galway (Qualified Riders) H' cap [Rated 0-90]. 2m. 1st - €42,650 , 2nd - €13,000 , 3rd - €6,500 , 4th - €2,600 30Declared

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬> Direct Bearing, Carlesimo, Rathbawn Prince, The Baltimore Man, Elapour, Carolina, Sophronia, Madonna Fan. High Prospect, Vatirisk, Hat Or Halo, Ostjessy, Bob What and Birth Rite, head the market for this thirty runner stampede. Direct Bearing, who landed the Ladies Irish Derby at the Curragh on his latest start, should go well here. He is preferred to Birth Rite, [who has been in good form over hurdles of late] and Elapour, [who is bred to be useful, though hasn't yet translated that top the track]. John Oxx's runner could be sneak a place at a nice price.
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬> Direct Bearing,
¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬> Birth Rite
¦ 3rd Choice³ ¦:¬>Elapour, [e/w]

¦ 5e. GALWAY ¦¬> 7:25 G.P.T. Van & Truck Rentals (3 Y O) Handicap (Rated 0-85). 1m. 4f. 1st - €9,660 , 2nd - €2,380 , 3rd - €1,120 , 4th - €700 18Declared

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬> Twilight Breeze, Lowlander, Caishill, Rare Presence, Reve De Rose, and Newtown Dancer make most appeal in race five. This hopefully will go to Lowlander, the winner of a 1m-4f 68 yds Hcap at Down Royal on his latest start 37 days ago. Assuming he can translate that form to this faster surface, he will take plenty of beating here. Twilight Breeze from the in-form Jim Bolger stable looks to be the main danger.
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬> Lowlander,
¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬>Twilight Breeze
¦ 3rd Choice³ ¦:¬> Reve De Rose, [e/w]

¦ 6e. GALWAY ¦¬> 8:00 G.P.T. Cork Handicap (Rated 0-70). 1m. 100yds. 1st - €9,660 , 2nd - €2,380 , 3rd - €1,120 , 4th - €700 23Declared

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬> Twenty three runners are declared for the penultimate race on day one of the meeting. Modern Goddess, Miss Moore, Neckar Valley, Langkawi Bay, Newcorr and Teach A Cheili, make most appeal. Modern Goddess isn't that good, however this is a very poor race and her 5th of 15 runners, behind Khaisara over 7f at Limerick at the beginning of May is more than good enough to give her a great chance here.... she is the "percentage call" .. Jim Bolger's Teach A Cheili, [a good eachway bet in my view], Newcorr and Miss Moore, are the horses to fear.
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬> Modern Goddess (USA).
¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬> Teach A Cheili, [e/w]
¦ 3rd Choice³ ¦:¬>Miss Moore

¦ 7e. GALWAY ¦¬> 8:35 G.P.T. Waterford I.N.H. Flat Race 2m. 1st - €8,970 , 2nd - €2,210 , 3rd - €1,040 , 4th - €650 30Declared

¦ .a.n. .r.̣.c.a.s. ¦:¬> Wouldn't You Agree, Laurel View, Paddys Girl, Slaney Fox, Colbinstown Pearl, Attack, Pagan Streams, The Dag, Gortinard, Hellofafella, and Knackering Wood, .are the horses that appeal in the last. I wouldnt be surprised if this was fought out between Wouldn't You Agree, [2nd of 13 runners, behind Hunters Bar in a Naas "bumper" over 2m-3f, almost a year ago] and Laurel View, [3rd of 22 runners, behind Alpha Rhythm at Naas five days ago. The market will be the best guide however i'll be hoping that Wouldn't You Agree, proves to be the strongest here.
¦ 1er. CHOICE¹ ¦:¬> Wouldn't You Agree,
¦ 2nd Choice² ¦:¬> Laurel View,
¦ 3rd Choice³ ¦:¬> The Dag, [e/w]

Newbury

2:15 TFM Cyntergy H' cap (For The London Gold Cup) £20000 added, 3yo only, 1m 3f 5yds, penalty £12934, 13 runners.
Shagraan (4th to Malacary at Newmarket on his latest start), Favourable Man (winner over 1m 4f at Catterick 24 days ago), Epicentre (the winner of a Bath maiden on his seasonal reappearance), Starzaan (a winner over 10f at Windsor 26 days ago), Tertullian and Dune are my fancies for this 11 furlong event. Shagraan' s form was confirmed by the winner earlier in the week and he is just preferred to top-weight Fashionable Man.

Shagraan won at 5/1

2:45 Grundon Stakes (Registered As The Aston Park Stakes) (Listed Race) £25000 added, 4yo plus, 1m 5f 61yds, penalty £15196, 6 runners.
A trappy little affair comes next. At their best, you could make a case for each of the 6 starters. Dawari (last seen behind Mr Combustible at Chester 375 days ago) and Art Gale (who disappointed over hurdles this winter) both appear as though this effort will bring them on, however, I won't be surprised if this develops into a match between High-Pitched and First Ballot....for all of First Ballot's battling qualities (he really did impress under top-weight at the guineas meeting), I think that High Pitched who developed into a decent handicapper last year will have come on enough for his first effort behind Marian Bard at Newmarket to be able to concede 6lbs all round here.
High Pitched won at 4/1

3:20 LOCKINGE STAKES - {Group.1} £172000 added, 4yo plus, 1m, penalty £99760, 10 runners.
Assuming Summoner (or for that matter Atavus) sets out to make this a truly run affair, then this race should develop into a battle between Noverre (one of last season's better 3-year-old milers who was slightly unlucky to be pipped by Terre A Terre at Nad Al Sheba) , No Excuse Needed (another decent miler who needs to improve on his disappointing 15th behind Terre A Terre and Noverre at Nad Al Sheba), Olden Time (Not seen out since finishing behind Slickly at Longchamp in September) and Keltos (who bounced back to somewhere like his best when winning at Saint Cloud last time out). There is no doubt that Noverre is a really useful individual, however, I believe Keltos is currently overpriced. The race should be run to suit this big nearly-white "grey" gelding and he appears to warrant (at the very least) each way consideration.
Keltos won at 9/1
