SELECTIONS
- For each race, I have given you who, in my view, are the
likeliest winners, as well as horses who could run well at eachway odds.
'R*ecommended'
horses have, in our view, the best chances of success each day. Any
horses from our 'Horses To Follow' list are shown at the foot of each
race's analysis.
POSTING TIMES FOR SELECTIONS_
Selections for Monday - Friday should be available after 9:30pm the
previous evening, however on Saturday and Sunday due to other
commitments won't be posted until after 8:30am those respective mornings
unless otherwise stated. Hopefully this helps

[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR "#########" FEATURE] -->
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN!!]--> A high draw will be important here and of those with that advantage the selection who is usually prominent in his races can prove difficult to catch around here, He has quite a progressive profile and ran respectably at Newbury last time in a decent maiden. Of the others, Racing Bailey's may pose a threat but looks to have plenty of weight on what he has achieved. Treetops Hotel must have chances but has found trouble in the past - the same could happen here. So, the consistent Fairy Monarch who should be suited by the track based on his experiences at Epsom, may give the selection most to do. Hoax does not appeal through a combination of his draw and handicap mark.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Mananan McLir
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Fairy Monarch
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->I agree with the flatman's summary however i feel that Fairy Monarch's consistency may prove decisive. That is more appealing than Mananan McLir's who will surely win a race soon ... hopefully not today !!. Albania should appreciate the step up in trip and can run into a place

[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR "Horses to follow" FEATURE] --> Goggles
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN!!]--> A small field but a tricky heat nonetheless. Proceed With Care must have disappointed Mark Johnston based on his confident words before his run (finished 10th) in the Tote International Handicap at Ascot last weekend. The easier surface may see him able to put in a better effort here as at Newmarket in April. Even so, there appears to be little between him and Cauvery. Reef Diver could not have been expected to beat Dandoun at Kempton last time but turned in a splendid effort in finishing third - I am a little concerned about how this one's inexperience may affect his performance around here. No such problems for Wannabe Around who has won over the course and nearly overcame a difficult draw in chasing home Riberac on Thursday. Providing he is over those exertions, I expect him to prove very difficult to peg back again if he can put in such a high level of performance. Perhaps, Rosi's Boy who ran so well in Group company in France last time may give him most to do.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Wannabe Around
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Rosi's Boy
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->Wannabe Around will be popular after his good second to Riberac here earlier in the week, however he did have a hard race there, and arguably meets slightly better opposition despite being likely to more suited to today's race conditions. Reef Diver who didn't run badly behind Dandoun last time out is preferred as i think Wannabe Around may set the race up for him. Goggles who ran well behind Cornelius at Doncaster could get into the money

[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR "#########" FEATURE] -->TIME AWAY
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN!!]--> An unoriginal selection but difficult to see any of the selection's opponents being able to match her turn of foot which has been displayed to such effect in recent races. She obviously holds her fellow three year olds on Irish Oaks form and perhaps Danceabout who is upped in trip (may be beneficial/bring about improvement) may get closest to her.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Lailani
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] -->
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->I've selected Lailani in all her starts this term, and don't intend to stop now. Hopefully Snowflake will ensure that isn't farcically run, if you think that could happen then Danceabout is capable of nicking this, and might be the better betting proposition

[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR "FUTURE WINNERS" FEATURE] --> SMART PREDATOR
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN!!]--> In cutting the field down to manageable proportions I give leading chances to Brevity (unoriginally), Seven No Trumps, Undeterred and Smart Predator. There would appear to be simply little sense, no matter which way you look at it in opposing Brevity based on the continuing ease of his current victories and his relative handicap mark here. The only thing I can suggest for those inclined to do so is that he will not get the very fast ground he has been winning on today although good ground should be adequate for him to perform. The other factor to use against him is that the size of the field and the effect of the draw might mitigate against him. Undeterred also in good nick has a similar reservations against him but he also cannot be left out of calculations. Smart Predator who has done us a couple of favours this year is better at 5F but this is not the stiffest course and he will certainly stretch them - it would not be the biggest shock to see this rather in and out performer cause a surprise by probably making all. However, I selected Seven No Trumps for the Wokingham and will remain loyal here - he ran a fine race there and was travelling sweetly inside the final furlong - this easier 6F might help him. He was ridden differently last time and must be forgiven.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Seven No Trumps
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Smart Predator
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->Brevity comes into the race in tremendous form and his proven ability to stay further than today's trip will ensure that he can compensate for an awkward draw. I'm sure he will go close, [as by the way will no doubt Undeterred, and the flatman's selection Seven No Trumps], however Palanzo appeals to me despite the draw. OK I accept that he has been beaten on more times than he won however good efforts behind the likes of Clearing, Dandoun at trip in excess of this, and Volata at this distance, prove his worth, and the fact he is near the head of the weight does suggest the quality of his opponents. At around 20/1 I think you could do a lot worse

[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR "HORSES TO FOLLOW" FEATURE] --> Raheibb,
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN !!] --> Quite a difficult contest with many who are fancied badly drawn. The exception is Raheibb who turns out under his penalty after a cosy win last time - looks to have further improvement in him and is real 7F specialist. I suspect that Polar Kingdom will give him most to do (should be suited by this trip) and looks the type to improve with further racing. He's the threat.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Raheibb
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Polar Kingdom
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->Raheibb has been in great form this season, and probably should have won here last two, Mr Dettori didn't give her the best of rides at Sandown on her penultimate effort. She won , in my view with a bit in hand last week at Sandown and if she can get the run of this event she may be too strong for Polar Kingdom, Lapwing and Inspector General

[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR "#########" FEATURE] -->
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN !!] --> Masterful is clearly thriving and must have good prospects of following up his Ascot victory on Sunday under his penalty. Muthaaber (stable companion) is no back number an ran with credit in the Britannia and an all aged handicap at Newbury running as if the step up in trip will suit. This factor gives him the edge over the other main danger Askham who was unlucky and faced a difficult task (if not impossible) behind Alphaeus last time.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Muthaaber
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] -->
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] --> Having twice been wrong about Masterful who was really impressive on his impressive handicap debut at Ascot last Sunday, I'm not overly keen to 'bring up the hatrick!!'. I will try thought, as I think Askham has a really god chance here. The form of his latest effort behind Alphaeus at Newmarket is working out really well, the winner, has won since whilst Demophilos was a brave second to Alexius earlier in the week, and Askham hopefully can make good use of the weight concessions he receives today. Of the others Down To The Woods is interesting mainly because the stable are in great form here, but also because he has 'managed' to have been received two poor rides in his most recent races. He may be a little too high in the weights, but this long striding colt could go well if he is given a chance to use himself
[NØ.1 CHOICE] -->Askham (USA)

[±±"THE FURLONG POLE!!"±±]
[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR "#########" FEATURE] -->
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN !!] --> The form of Tamburlaine, I suggest, is the key to this contest as a reproduction of his 2,000 Guineas performance behind Golan would surely be good enough here. But, he has been below that form twice since (blamed on the sticky ground and a virus) and it remains to be seen what form he will now be capable of here. On balance, with the ground again likely to be on the soft side of good, if his trainer's comments are to be believed he will be worth opposing on such a surface especially after an absence. As Munir is one of the few guaranteed to enjoy the softening of the ground, he gets the vote on the basis of his smart Greenham form on this ground and his respectable efforts in the English Guineas and the Jersey stakes despite his Group penalty. Mull of Kintyre who ran the smart King Charlemagne so close last time is gradually coming back to his best after two injuries and is the danger - unknown quantity on the ground though.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] -->Munir
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] --> The Craven form represented by King's Ironbridge looks pretty modest in view of subsequent events.
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] -->
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->Surprise Encounter is the selection in the third, although i fear Munir, Mull of Kintyre, and Tamburlaine. Surprise Encounter was hugely impressive in both of his starts this term, most recently when running away in the Royal Hunt Cup and appears capable of holding his own in Group 3 company. Hopefully he can confirm that he is he up to the step up in class
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Surprise Encounter

[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR "#########" FEATURE] -->
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN !!] --> An odd sort of handicap with so many runners dropping down to this level after competing in Listed/Group (including G1) events with no particular merit. Paul Cole seems keen to win it with three entries and Maniatis looks sure to give a good account. The trouble with this free running sort is that he and Bogus Dreams are likely to battle it out throughout up front with may not be beneficial to either. Delius looks interesting based on his close up performance of level weights behind Sakhee but I'' not entirely convinced that didn't flatter him. Flossy is a pretty smart handicapper on her day in soft conditions and is the selection from Hannibal Lad (consistent and in good nick but generally in a much lower grade) as she has been competing well in good class events outside of handicaps and this looks a much easier task. She looks nicely weighted here.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Flossy
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] --> The selection likes a good gallop which should prevail here. A slight negative is that she may prefer a galloping track (but she has won around Chester) so I'm hopeful.
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Hannibal Lad
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->Maniatis, Father Juninho, Delius, Bogus Dreams, Flossy, Hannibal Lad, Moon Solitaire, and Moselle, appeal in an open heat. Moon Solitaire's form this term is solid, having been placed in his previous three start [winning once] before getting no sort of run at Ascot behind Takamana Bay. I can see this horse finishing in the places... and therefore I'll make him an eachway selection

[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN !!] --> This looks an easier task than Woodlark instead of taking on the likes of Approval and Naheef. Can make the most of the weight concession in his first handicap especially from the likes of the useful Magic Trick who included the useful Redback among his victims on soft ground at the start of the season. A return to that level of performance will see that one go close.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Woodlark
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] -->Magic Trick
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] --> Shahm is a hopeful choice in the fifth. He was only just touched off by Fairy Monarch at Epsom on his latest start, by far his best run so far. That isn't really a concern though for a horse from a stable renowned for 'educating' before 'plundering'. He appears fairly treated and is preferred to Sighting

[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Sweet Band (USA)
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Golden Spectrum
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->Sweet Band looks to be an obvious selection in the sixth, with very little evidence to go on. His , 3rd behind Dubai Destination, is a high plateau for his rival to attain so early, and he is hard to overlook ... that said he is so obvious that he surely will be no value. He is the likeliest winner and if you fancy him then you should stay loyal. I will try and find an alternative here, and after browsing through pedigrees liked the look of Desert Air, Golden Spectrum, and Hot Produxion, who will be noted for the future. As this ploy nearly worked with a paul Cole juvenile yesterday, Japanese bred Desert Air, out of 7f and 1m winner Greek Air, looks capable of at the very least getting into the money .... here's hoping
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Desert Air (JPN)

[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR "#########" FEATURE] -->
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN !!] --> As with the sprint earlier this week, I'm going to stick with the main man in such affairs - Dandy Nicholls. Conditions seem to have gone against Zuhair so he is passed over in favour of Flak Jacket who was 4th to him in that contest on Wednesday but who is probably better over 6F and acts with ease in the ground.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Flak Jacket
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] --> In the softer ground the selection may not have the best of the draw.
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> American Cousin
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->Glowing, Flak Jacket, Zuhair, Cold Climate, James Stark, Salviati, American Cousin, Atlantic Viking, Sir Sandrovitch, Bond Boy, and Peruvian Chief, all have claims in an open sprint that ends day four. Zuhair' s great record at the track will ensure his popularity again, and if the rains doesn't alter conditions greatly then he is sure to go again. The same comments apply to Glowing, another who excels on the track, but not favoured by the softer conditions. I'll pass them both over and go with Flak Jacket who ran well behind Zuhair earlier in the week, who more importantly will handle any rain the heavens thrown at him

[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR "#########" FEATURE] -->
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->Palace Affair, Independence, Sheppard's Watch, Al Ihsas, Night Haven and Pearly Gates, head for the market in the opener. They all appear to be similar types; Independence is a progressive sort, and has won her last two races with a bit in hand most recently at Ascot when she beat Dear Daughter by 1 1/2l, Palace Affair, and Night Haven are closely matched on their recent meeting at York over 6furlongs Sheppard's Watch is to be feared, as she should find this level of competition more to here liking than when she coming up against German raider Proudwings at the July Meeting, the very same comment also applies to Al Ihsas, who found Mozart too much to handle at Royal Ascot. Assuming that this event is truly run, I wouldn’t be too surprised if Independence, and Sheppard's Watch, battled this out, the former is the less-complicated to ride [Sheppard's Watch needs to be delivered as late as possible], and is probably the safest option
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Independence
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Al Ilhas
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN !!] --> Palace Affair, Independence, Sheppard's Watch and Al Ihsas catch my eye in an interesting opener. I'm not convinced Sheppard's Watch, as smart as she is will be as effective over this easy 7F judged on her winning efforts over a mile. No such problems for Palace Affair who has won at 6F but the fast ground might just catch this one out. Independence is very much going the right way and I remember her opening run this year when she showed tremendous pace although running to free. Now that she has learnt to settle, she is very capable of winning this with the smart change of pace she possesses - and is clearly progressing in leaps and bounds. Despite her chances, I'll give another chance to Al Ilhas to redeem her lofty home reputation after flopping at Royal Ascot in the Jersey Stakes (no reason forthcoming) where I selected her. This is relatively much easier and I hope to see the horse who won so impressively here and at Leicester before Ascot on show today.

[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] --> 14 runners lineup in the second. Irony, The first winner for Jamie Osborne at Royal Ascot, plus i form rivals Whitbarrow, Pieter Brueghel, High Finale, Sunday Sport, Celestien, Mizillablack, and Simianna look the likeliest winners. It wouldn't surprise me if Whitbarrow, and Simianna bounced back from disappointing last time out efforts. However Pieter Brueghel has posted two good efforts, most recently when he put 5 lengths between and Vanderlin at Newbury. He should come on again for these runs, and it wouldnt surprise me if he stayed on too strongly for his opponents here
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Pieter Brueghel (USA),
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Simianna
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN !!] --> I was most impressed by Irony's pure speed at Ascot and as he was one of the few to win on the far side his performance may be worth a few pounds extra. There have been winners from those who finished behind him since at Ascot. Certainly, this race looks ready made for him and the fast track should hold no fears - perhaps the only danger might be that he is taken on from the start this time with the other jockeys trying to get him beat this way by unsettling him. This is possible with plenty of the others having shown early pace in their races - not least Whitbarrow who must be forgiven his flop last time (draw and got stirred up) - but I expect him to come through the test. Pieter Brueghel won a Newbury maiden very easily last time (5 lengths) and could be open to considerable improvement. Any weakness in Irony's performance could be exploited by him as he is likely to follow the pace and pounce late.

[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->Solo Mio, who is in such great form at present has been follow by our website since we placed him on last season' s horses to follow feature over jumps. Frightening Barracuda appears t have done him the world of good, as he has excelled in all of his starts on the flat, including last time out, when beating Romantic Affair by in May. Despite the presence of old advisories Persian Punch, Royal Rebel, San Sebastian, Life Is Life, and Rainbow High, if he gets the run of this race, it is easy seeing him post win number there here.

[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Mbele,
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN !!] -->Let's hope for another epic staying race like the thrilling Ascot Gold Cup. Unfortunately, with Persian Punch unlikely to go so well on this track he may not be part of any battle that entails. Despite his Group 1 penalty, Royal Rebel will not go down without one hell of a fight and it is only the fact that Solo Mio is quite so progressive (both I and the Rook gave him earlier this term when he won at 20-1 at Newmarket) that he is passed over. Allied to his courage and improvement this season he has a nice turn of foot for a stayer which may prove decisive under the prevailing quick conditions where staying qualities may be less of a consideration on the day. Double Honour is as brave as they come - this is his stiffest test to date but ridden with a little more restraint than in the Queen's Vase (in the box seat the whole way) he may run into a place. His trainer often runs his useful three year old stayers in this contest so he obviously expects him to go well.

[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR Horses to Follow/Future winners FEATURE] --> Highland Reel (both) and Digital (Future winners)
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] --> A typically wide open renewal of the William Hill Mile. Analyser, Atavus, Persiano, Big Future, Little Amin, Parisien Star, Brilliant Red, Thihn, J R Stevenson, Riberac, Digital, Highland Reel, Hilltop Warning, Wannabe Around, and Calcutta, are amongst those with claims. Atavus is sure to proved popular on the day, after his success in the Bunbury Cup, and more recently at Ascot last saturday, where he withheld the late thrust of Nice One Clare and Tillerman. He should go well again here, however he may not be as potent over this distance, and Analyser, off of his lightweight, makes far more appeal. Our selection followed up his good win in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot, with a solid effort when just going down to Zucchero at Newbury. The race should be run to suit and if he gets the breaks he should be hard to beat. amongst the others Digital, Culcutta, and Riberac all have similar profiles, and will looking for runs in the final quarter. Riberac probably appeals most however I couldn't select her with any confidence after her unfortunate episode in the Magnet Cup, when breaking out of the stalls, and taking a nasty looking tumble. Instead Digital who threatens to run well in a race like this, and comes into the race in good heart is marginally preferred.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Analyser,
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Digital,
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN !!] --> After selecting Atavus at the weekend, I'm a little loathe to desert him here especially before he has been reassessed. However, he looked a little fortunate to win at the weekend in any case with among others Tillerman not getting a clear run. I also thought he had a tough race - there throughout and hard pressed from two out all the way to the line. He is worth passing over although I'm sure he will make a bold bid again. I like the look of Britannia winner Analyser who has done little wrong this season and won only just touched off by Zucchero at Newbury last time in an all aged handicap. A reproduction of that effort should see him in with a big shout. Nicely drawn and not overburdened with weight. Of the others, Big Future troubles me (first class effort in the Hunt Cup at Ascot) but is 7F his best trip? Wannabe Around is useful but his low draw puts me off a little and may spoil his chance of winning, Parisien Star ran well here earlier in the week but that was a low grade affair for the track, while the admirable Thihn usually finds one or two that much better in a finish. Riberac is a horse I've been waiting for but over a stiffer mile than he will encounter today and is passed over. Persiano always goes well here but may have a shade too many pounds to carry to prevent Analyser from delivering the goods. Little Amin is having a good season and looks good for place claims. Highland Reel has been most disappointing since his opening effort in the Lincoln.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Analyser

However it's hard to look past Paper Chase representing David Loder's yard. She did nothing wrong on her debut when only just failing to hold Kasamba at Newmarket. Improvement can be expected from that effort, and she looks hard to beat here

However, the Dunlop charge gets the vote - a little unlucky on his debut at Kempton - he was not beaten far and can be expected to come on a good deal for that effort much as Tashawak did yesterday.

I'm not very confident here however Noble Nick has performed well in all of his four starts, most recently, just failing to hold Moten Swing at Salisbury. He drops to handicap company here and has solid eachway claims
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Noble Nick (e/w)

[ALTERNATIVE] --> Keep The Silver,
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN !!] --> Difficult contest to evaluate. Zeitlos turns out under a 6lb penalty for his narrow win over Lady Pekan. His first real form. That one advertised the form splendidly at Newbury and if Zeitlos can run anywhere near as well again he much have a major chance here. Plenty of others in with a shout but let's hope the selection can now show some further improvement and pop in at a decent price.

[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->Shirazi, Flying Trapeze, Hail The Chief, Clever Girl, Floot, Naviasky, Finished Article, Stoppes Brow, Style Dancer, Compton Aviator, Cote Soleil, Star Turn and Forever My Lord, all have chances in the finale. I like Style Dancer here, and can see him going close if he gets the run of the race, however Flying Trapeze could get back into winning ways. He has really blossom of late, having won three of his late four races, and didn't run too badly over 1m3f last time at Redcar. He clearly is improving, and that is worth bearing in mind if you consider the 14lbs rise in the weights that he will needs to have adjusted to ... The handicapper could yet be surprised by him here
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Flying Trapeze (USA)
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Style Dancer,
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN !!] --> Moderate contest to complete the day. Hard to find any real form to excite. Shirazi seems to be going the right way but won a pretty moderate affair last time. Has a difficult draw to overcome. Flying Trapeze really does stand out (3 wins already this season - Haydock, Bath and Redcar - including over this trip) and may have found the step up in trip against him last time. Worth another chance to atone from a respectable midfield draw.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Flying Trapeze (USA)

[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR "#########" FEATURE] -->
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN !!] --> Gracilis, Alrisha and Pride of India are the three to catch my eye in a moderate but closely matched handicap to open proceedings - does not appear to be much between any of these at the weights. Alrisha (was an entry for the Gold Cup) is held in high regard by her trainer and this trip may see a marked improvement in her form. Price of India probably exerted himself too much in the Ascot Stakes and blew up turning in before staying on again at the death - may go close if ridden with more restraint this time. But it seems sensible to side with the improving Gracilis (on a five timer) who is clearly in the form of his life and who may have more to give based on the relative ease of his recent victories.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Gracilis
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] --> I just hope Kieran Fallon does not give the selection too much to do here as this is an extreme trip and it may not be easy to deliver a late challenge when exhaustion may be setting in.
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Pride of India
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] --> An interesting stayers event opens proceeding; Gracilis, Pride of India, Jack Dawson, Laffah, Alrisha, Hugs Dancer, and Keep Ikis, all make degrees of appeal over this marathon trip. With First Ballot winning here yesterday, I'm sure that many punters will latch onto Gracilis, who finished in front of that gelding when winning his fourth race on the bounce at Sandown last time out. That event was over 1m6f, and if he stays this extended trip, only Prize of India makes any sort of appeal as a likely rival to topple him. He didn't run too badly when finishing behind Cover Up at Ascot over 2m4f, and is to he feared, however its hard to ignore such strong formlines, and Gracilis has to be the choice. Of the others, I'm interested by the participation of Clandestine, as Nicky Henderson wouldnt run her unless he was certain she could do herself justice. She could go well at a nice price
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Gracilis
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] --> Recent formline are solid, and given the perfect boost by First Ballot here yesterday

[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR "FUTURE WINNERS" FEATURE] --> Receivedwiththanx
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN !!] --> Just the one horse (Rafferty) here without a win to his name - so this looks a good quality renewal. Redback (tough and consistent) sets the standard and is sure to give a good run for your money. Some potentially very smart opponents here though take him on - all eyes will be on Leo's Luckyman - while Loweswater, Mr Sundance, Naheef and Bragadino all have plenty of scope for improvement on their already smart form. Sometimes it pays to go with the gut reaction about a horse and Leo's Luckyman was an instant hit with me and many that saw him win at Ayr. While this will be a very different experience and severe test I suggest he will come through with flying colours if he is anywhere near the horse he is spoken of and looked like at Ayr. Bragadino did not beat much at Sandown but looked nonetheless capable of showing much more - perhaps he could land a surprise.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Leo's Luckyman
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Redback
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] --> Naheef, Leo's Luckyman, Redback, Bragadino, Laissezaller, Highdown, Loweswater, and Where or When are the main protagonists in an intriguing lineup for the second. Several really take the eye; Naheef impressed when beating Washington Pink by 5lengths at Epsom on his debut; Redback led all the way when winning easily at Newmarket, Loweswater beat yesterday's winner Serieux on his second start, Bragadino was very green when beating Continuously at Sandown on his debut, as was Where or When who overcame traffic problems to win at Ascot. All of these have futures however Leo's Luckyman is the selection as I can honestly say that few two year olds have impressed me as he did when winning at Ayr. He may not have beaten much that day, but he really used his massive stride to put 8lengths between himself and his rivals, if he is able to translate that effort to this grade, he will be very hard to beat here. Make a note of Receivedwiththanx, and watch out for this game frontrunner in the future. I think he'll find this trip a bit on the sharp side however he will come back into his own in lesser company over in races over a mile
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Leo's Luckyman (USA),
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->Hugely impressive on his debut, and hails from a stable whose runners are firing here

[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR "FUTURE WINNERS" FEATURE] --> No Excuse Needed,
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN !!] --> Ascot's St James's Palace stakes is the race to watch on the video here with most of the principals engaged in that contest won by Black Minnaloushe. Close inspection shows just how unlucky No Excuse Needed was and there must be a strong suspicion that he would have won with a clear passage. On the basis, that he is entitled to come on for the run more than any of the others in that race he looks to have a first rate chance here. Bach seemed to excel last time and may be difficult to reel in but the other jockeys may just have underestimated him last time - that won't happen here.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> No Excuse Needed
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] --> One has to hope that the selection will receive a trouble free run here which his come from behind style requires.
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] -->
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] --> Black Minnaloushe, No Excuse Needed, Noverre, Olden Times, Distant Music, Bach, and Cape Town all have claims in the third. Black Minnaloushe attempts to get back onto the winning trail after a gallant effort in the Coral Eclipse, where he finished a staying on third to Medicean. He did seem to be given plenty to do that day, and that tactic will prove fatal here, especially as several of his rivals will be also trying to play their hands late. There are many punters who will suggest that Black Minnaloushe's win in the ST James Palace Stake stands out and he has the beating again of No Excuse Needed, Noverre, and Olden Times, however if you have the video have a look at the run No Excuse Needed got [or didn't get] in that event. He was stopped on more than one occasion, and bearing in mind that this was his first appearance of the season will have almost certainly have come on for the experience. Home reports suggest a big run is expected, and he is a confident choice to reverse that form
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> No Excuse Needed,
'R*ecommended'
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] --> Excellent first run. Home reports suggest a big run is expected

[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR "#########" FEATURE] -->
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN !!] --> A hot contest here. Not easy to discount that many. I admired Tomasino's effort behind Beekeeper at Ascot and he is sure to go well again. He is most consistent. Regatta Point (fine recent efforts), Ovambo (on a roll), and Halcyon Daze (looks able to step up further) all hold respectable chances. The vote, however, goes to Elsaamri who despite only winning a maiden and a relative minor event looks an impressive individual who is going places. He is held in high regard by his connections and Goodwood is a venue where his stable traditionally does well.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Elsaamri
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Tomasino
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->Elsaamri, Sing For Fame, The Glen, Tomasino, Ovambo, Fly With Me, Nation, and Halcyon Daze, appeal in this handicap. Tomasino, beaten 1/2length behind Beekeeper at Ascot will be popular, especially as the stable are performing well here, however Elsaamri, a late maturing three old colt, may still have more improvement to come, even though he only just scrapped past Sing For Fame last time out at Bath. He wont be a great price, but what does that matter if he comes home in front?. Amongst the others Nation, and Halcyon Daze, stand out as attractive eachway propositions. Nation, from Sir Michael Stoute's yard is an interesting runner, having been placed in all of his three starts. He is clearly still open to improvement and is my idea of the eachway alternative
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Elsaamri (USA),
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Nation

[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR "Future Winners" FEATURE] --> Early Morning Mist
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN !!] --> Quite a disappointing bunch overall (including Early Morning Mist on her most recent starts). My feeling is this rests between Encore Du Cristal, Denise Margaret and Moon Goddess. All seem to be open to further improvement, personally the Gosden filly impressed me the most last time and she and Denise Margaret who ran very respectably in the John Smith's Cup may have a protracted battle for the lead here. All this may set up the race for Moon Goddess who will appreciate this step up in distance and is clearly on the upgrade. Not much in it I suspect but Encore Du Cristal is taken to fend off all challengers.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Encore Du Cristal (USA)
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Moon Goddess
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->Denise Margaret, Early Morning Mist, Moon Goddess, Omniheat, Reciprocal, Encore du Cristal and Scottish Spice, all have claims in this Fillies' Handicap. Kafezah, is preferred having run well on her latest start when finishing fourth behind Velvet Glade at Newmarket. She is preferred to Denise Margaret, who ran well last time out in the Magnet Cup at York, and Encore du Cristal an easy winner at Salisbury on her latest effort
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Kafezah (FR)
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Encore Du Cristal (USA)

[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN !!] --> As we explained yesterday, experience counts for a great deal over a difficult track like Goodwood. For that reason despite Princess Miletrian and Miss Crisette making some appeal on breeding alone, one has to concentrate on Island Mint and Tashawak as having the most obvious chances. Island Mint ran "ok" behind Kulachi (Listed event) but I cannot help feeling the Dunlop filly might benefit most from his debut experience and land this.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Tashawak
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Princess Miletrian
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->Tashawak, Miss Croisette, Rave On, Bells For Marlin, Negligee, and Silver Charmer, are selected against the field limning up in the sixth. Tashawak, ran on well to finish 3rd behind Entrap at Kempton on her debut and is preferred despite the presence of newcomers Miss Croisette, and Bells For Marlin, who really appeal on paper but may need this today
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Tashawak,
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] -->
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Bells For Marlin (USA)

[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR "#########" FEATURE] -->
[FOLLOW THE FLATMAN !!] --> Tricky - the Nicholls pair Zuhair and Flak Jacket make some appeal along with Absolute Fantasy who is running consistently well. I just suspect Zuhair may have the edge here as he appears to be approaching his peak after a long time out of touch (3 successive placed efforts support this notion) and he is sure to be ready for this. Flak Jacket may appreciate a stiffer test while Absolute Fantasy is not the easiest of rides and this track may not entirely suit (despite his victory earlier this season) - may find trouble.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Zuhair
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] --> The handicapper looks to have most of these in his pocket and a blanket may cover most of this field - so not a race to invest heavily in.
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Absolute Fantasy
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->Flak Jacket, Absolute Fantasy, Pertemps Fc, Our Fred, Zuhair, Pure Elegancia, Zuhair, Sunley Sense , Tuscan Dream, Beyond Calculation, Sihafi and Hammer And Sickle all have chances in the final race on day two. I dare say that Zuhair will run his usual run here, however his stablemate Flat Jacket, and bottomweight Pertemps FC appeal more, that latter beat the inform Soaked at Musselburgh last time out, and is a hopeful selection.
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Pertemps Fc, (e/w)

[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->Torrid Kentavr, Entity, Prairie Wolf, Kuster, Shrivar, Gold Academy and Atlantic Rhapsody make plenty of appeal in the opener on day one of Glorious Goodwood. Torrid Kentavr, who was well ridden to beat Court Of Appeal by a head at Sandown, and Entity,, who made all, when winning at Hamilton are the likely favourites. I doubt these will be too far away, however Kuster makes plenty of appeal at eachway odds. He didn't get the best of runs behind Establishment at Ascot on his latest effort, however he stayed on really well that day, and a repeat of that form entitled him to get into the money. He's a hopeful choice
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Kuster, (e/w)
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] --> I liked the way Kuster stayed on well last time well at Ascot, and he is entitled to go wel, the drop in trip is probably responsible for the "e/w" tag.

[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->Prince Dayjur, Mister Cosmi, Anna Walhaan, Ocean Sound, Trilogy, Esenin, and Dark Sorcerer, all have chances of sorts in the second race on the card. Prince Dayjur, is likely to start favourite on the strength of his good third to Meshaheer at Newmarket 20 days ago, however in Anna Walhaan, Trilogy, and Esenin, he'll be facing three horses who won impressively last time, who could easily cause a surprise. I just prefer Anna Walhaan, who easily disposed of Short Change on his debut, to Trilogy, dropping back in trip after routing a field of maidens at Salisbury on his latest start
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Anna Walhaan,
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] --> Plenty to like about his debut, however this is a trappy heat where three really appealed
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Trilogy

[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR "#########" FEATURE] -->
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->There are several horses on retrieval missions in the Gordon Stakes. Likely favourite Perfect Sunday, who disapointed in the Derby and then at Saint Cloud, plus Nayef, whose trainer freely admits he's been wrong all season haven't quite fulfilled their potential, and meet Wareed, Saddler's Creek, Alexius, Hill Country, and Snowstorm, all of whom are capable of surprising. Alexius, who was well touted when lowering Putra Sandhurst' s colours on his debut at Newmarket, is arguably well up to this and closely matched with the favourite. With further improvement guaranteed he is a sporting bet here
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Alexius,
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] --> realistically an eachway bet, but should go well here, if Putra Sandhurst' s formline is reliable
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Snowstorm

[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->First Ballot, Moonjaz, Mana d'Argent, Zibeline, Gallery God, Virgin Soldier, Court Shareef and Robandela, appeals in the next. First Ballot arguably is in the form of his life at present and after carrying our support when just failing to get home in a stayers event at Royal Ascot, then ran a great race under 10st 7lbs, when finishing 4lengths behind Gracilis [who carried the best part of 2st less] at Sandown 24 days ago. He should be able to form the early pace, and is dangerous if he's given too much rope, however Moonjaz, an easy winner at Pontefract and Gallery God who didn't get the best of runs when third to Takamaka Bay at Royal Ascot may be good enough to poach the prize from him. The race should be run to suit Geoff Wragg's runner and he gets the vote
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Gallery God
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] --> I'd love to see First Ballot win, however I think he is likely to be vulnerable to a 'finisher' . Gallery God fits the bill if he gets the run of the race
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> First Ballot,

[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR "HORSES TO FOLLOW" FEATURE] --> Borders, & Superstar Leo,
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] -->The fifth race o the card is an interesting renewal of the King George Stakes. Borders, Bishops Court, Dietrich, Superstar Leo, Proud Native, Ellens Lad, Rozel, and Rudi's Pet make varying degrees of appeal. Superstar Leo, should go well having well behind Invincible Spirit at Newbury over 6furlongs last time out. She's ;likely to be forcing the issue early as is unlikely to meet difficulty in running, the same comments apply to Rudi's Pet. who may be coming back to some where near his best, and Borders, who didn't see out the trip up Sandown's stiff 5 furlongs. On this faster track he could make plenty of these go and is preferred to Bishops Court, Dietrich, and Proud Native, who may not get a clear run in this decent sized field
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Borders,
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] --> Very open affair. Borders should get a clear run for 4 furlongs, and hopefully is good enough to hang on here
[E/W ALTERNATIVE] --> Superstar Leo,

[RUNNER [S] FROM OUR "#########" FEATURE] -->
[T.H.E. R.O.O.K.] --> Sauce Tartar, Gallant, Faithful Warrior, Kelburne, Soft Breeze, and Amoras, make most appeal in an interesting handicap. Sauce Tartar, had been a revelation since the application of the blinkers, and has impressed in his last two starts. Recent winners Faithful Warrior, and Kelburne will need to be on their guard on a track that suits front runners ... with that in mind, in may pay to stick with the horse who is most likely to get a clear run. If there is a surprise then Naviasky may provide it. He was badly impeded when a respectable ninth on his latest start at Beverley, and could be ready to shown his previous form when he was trained by Willie Muir
[NØ.1 CHOICE] --> Sauce Tartar
[POSITIVES & NEGATIVES?] --> Sauce Tartar will be hard to catch around a track that suits
