Grande Course De Haies De Printemps -

Analysis & Selections by l' .è.l.è.p.h.a.n.t. - Whether it be "the race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs, we will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the fancied horses participating each day and their characteristics and requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides you with a winner or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a particular may even convince you to back some of those horses which we feel are the "ones to fear", or have decent eachway claims. whichever is the case, we hope the information is of use to you.

SELECTIONS - For each race, we have given you who, in our view, are the likeliest winners; [¹ NØ.1 CHOICE], as well as any runners who could run well at eachway odds; [²E/W ALTERNATIVE] . Any runner from our features are shown before each race's analysis.

AUTEUIL
Saturday, April 27 2002
(4700 m 50000 Euro)
¦-------{a}{t}-{t}{h}{e}-{p}{o}{s}{t}-------¦
¦ l' .è.l.è.p.h.a.n.t. ¦:¬>Boca Boca (A promising fourth on his reappearance here at the beginning of the month, his first run since finishing fifth in the 2000 Premio LXI Gran Premio Merano Forst Steeple Ch. ), Graal de Chalamont, (A winner at Lyon over fences in March) and Hard Rock (another useful chaser, who was having his first race since taking the 1999 Prix Edmond Barrachin (Chase) (Grade 3) when finishing fourth in the Prix Hyeres III, here two weeks ago) are the likeliest winners of the opener. Boca Boca is just preferred to Hard Rock
¦ ¹1èr CHOICE ¦:¬> Boca Boca
¦ ²e/w alternative ¦:¬>

14:15 - Prix Sicie Haies.
¦-------{a}{t}-{t}{h}{e}-{p}{o}{s}{t}-------¦
¦ l' .è.l.è.p.h.a.n.t. ¦:¬>Galahan; who was third on his most recent start here two weeks ago, Divine Gesture, (who bettered that effort when finishing second on the same card), Legend of Anais, who finished third on his second start over hurdles at Enghien, but who has been well beaten since, and Anissia a promising sixth on her most recent attempt over obstacles, make most appeal in this claimer ... Divine Gesture just gets the call
¦ ¹1èr CHOICE ¦:¬> Divine Gesture
¦ ²e/w alternative ¦:¬>Anissia

(4100 m 155000 Euro)
¦-------{a}{t}-{t}{h}{e}-{p}{o}{s}{t}-------¦
¦ l' .è.l.è.p.h.a.n.t. ¦:¬>The runners from this Grade 3 event are;
{1} Funny King trained by J. Bertran de Balanda (70kg) - An impressive winner of his last two starts here, most recently the Prix Beugnot Hurdle in March . Should go well despite his big weight
{2} Royal Bric trained by Bern. Barbier (69kg) - A winner of the Prix Prince D'ecouen here in September, however disappointing since
{3} Turnium trained by A. Chaillé-Chaillé (68kg) - Winner of four chases here during the 2000 season, however despite showing promise in its two runs since returning from injury may still need more time ... not exactly a shock winner
{4} Sète Nain trained by P. Monfort. (68kg) - Has he peaked in time for this .... his win in the Prix Rose Or No (Handicap Hurdle) here 16 days ago suggest this useful handicap hurdler shouldn't be too far away
{5} Sirius Parcs trained by A. Chaillé-Chaillé (67kg) - Another winner of four races here, this time last year. This useful "tool" seems to be "coming to the boil" just at the right time if judged on his recent start in the Prix Air Landas (Steeple Chase) here three weeks ago.
{6} Volontaire trained by J-P. Gallorini (67kg) - Ran respectably when third at Fontainebleau last time out, however quite how good that form is (in the context of this affair) isn't clear.
{7} Laveron trained by F.Doumen (67kg) - Should be familiar to British punters having been campaigned mainly over here last winter. He ran some good races, however I don't think we ever saw the best of him. I think partly due to the ground, and (in my view) the obstacles. Ever time I've seen this horse race in France he has looked potentially very useful, and any french punter saw the ease by which he swept aside his opponents when winning the Prix Hubert de Navailles (Hurdle) (4yo+) here at the beginning of the month will find it difficult to leave him off of their shortlist ... must go well here (N.B. He jumped fresh style hurdles extremely well .. regardless of how he fares here today, he could be a totally different proposition over here, if tried over fences next term)
{8} Maillot Jaune trained by G. Macaire. (67kg) - On the way back after missing last term through injury .. not certain he's shown enough to take this prize.
{9} Spring Babe trained by Guy Chérel. (66kg) - Winner of the Prix Hyeres III Steeple Ch. on his last start here twelve days ago ... He should go well
{10} Isidore Ranson trained by E. Leenders (64kg) - The winner of three of his fives tarts this year, at Pau, Toulouse and Angers (all over fences). He ran well in the Prix du Vivarais (Hurdle) (5yo+) last time out here, and this "sighter" should stand him in good stead.
{11} Red Guest trained by Bern. Barbier (64kg) - Hasn't won since taking the Prix Rose Or No (Handicap Hurdle) here last year .. no realistic chance on current form.
{12} Angelico trained by J. Rémy (63.5kg) - A winner three times during the winter, however he'll need to step up on his third in the Prix Rose Or No (Handicap Hurdle) to figure here.
{13} Beau Canadien trained by Mrs. L. Audon (63kg) - He has little bits of form over hurdles which entitles him to be considered .. however he's not exactly the "obvious" choice.
{14} Holiday Light trained by G. Chaignon (62kg) - Comes here having won the Prix Necor here two weeks ago ... not without a chance
{15} Imitek trained by C.Lerner (62kg) - Fell in the Prix Lutteur III Steeple Chase here last time out, but has already shown solid handicap form here last year .. an outsider with a chance
{16} Oudry trained by J-P. Gallorini (62kg) - Two good efforts in the Prix Rose Or No (Handicap Hurdle) and Prix Predicateur here in the last month give this useful handicapper a sound eachway chance
{17} Éminence Grise J. P. Delaporte (61kg) - This horse should be familiar to British punters having been a user stayer handicapper on the flat during the 1999 and 2000 seasons. He has taken well to hurdles taking a minor event at Cagnes Sur Mer in January. He needs to improve on his eighth in the Prix Rose Or No (Handicap Hurdle) to figure, but that isn't exactly an impossible task.
{18} Fils D'Eccosse trained by P.Briard (61kg) - Another with chances of sorts ... His form at Pau at the turn of the season entitles him to that, however needs to improve on his ninth in the Prix Rose Or No (Handicap Hurdle) to figure here.
{19} Tartuffo trained by Mrs. L. Audon (61.5kg) - A winner here in March. Fourth in the Prix Rose Or No (Handicap Hurdle) on his last start ... another eachway possibility
{20} Sky trained by G. Pannier (61kg). - Aa winner at Cagnes Sur Mer at the beginning of the year who has run well in handicap company .. this may a little too hot for him however.

¦ SUMMARY ¦:¬>Funny King, Sirius Parcs, Sète Nain, Laveron, and Isidore Ranson look the likeliest winners here. I expect a bold bid from the top weight Funny King, but Laveron (my selection) and Isidore Ranson may just be too good
¦ 1èr CHOICE ¦:¬> Laveron
¦ 2nd Choice ¦:¬> Isidore Ranson, (e/w)
¦ 3rd Choice ¦:¬>Funny King

(4100 M 140000 Euro)

¦ are there any runners from "ONE TO JUMP" our feature which; each season, provides a list of horses to follow during the national hunt season? ¦:¬>Vie De Reine
¦ l' .è.l.è.p.h.a.n.t. ¦:¬>Plaisir du Roy, Karly Flight, Vie de Reine, Kiléfou d'Airy and Royale Blabli, make most appeal in this Grade two prize. Plaisir du Roy, and Vie de Reine, may fight this out. They met in the Prix Fleuret Steeple Ch. (Grade 3) here at the beginning of the month, where Plaisir du Roy stay on best up the run-in to score by 2 1/2 lengths. I expect Vie De Reine to get much closer this time. (Guilliame Macaire's big filly will improve as she matures/races) and I'm hopeful that she can reverse the placings. Kiléfou d'Airy a winner twice at Pau in the winter is the eachway alternative

(3900 M 140000 Euro)
¦-------{a}{t}-{t}{h}{e}-{p}{o}{s}{t}-------¦
¦ are there any runners from "ONE TO JUMP" our feature which; each season, provides a list of horses to follow during the national hunt season? ¦:¬>Saint Des Saints
¦ l' .è.l.è.p.h.a.n.t. ¦:¬>Saint Des Saints, a winner four times (three times in Graded company) since his inclusion in our website's ONE TO JUMP feature has to concede weight to seven rivals, including Great Love, Cybergenics, and Kotika, (useful juveniles in their own right); all of whom have suffered defeat at his hand already this term. This magnificent dual purpose juvenile keeps improving with each start, and unless he has an off day should be too good for these. Or Ou Argent who made all to win here last week may sneak into the placing
¦ ¹1èr CHOICE ¦:¬> Saint Des Saints,
¦ ²e/w alternative ¦:¬>Or Ou Argent

(4300 M 75000 Euro)

Fustrien du Paon, who took the Prix Hauon here in March is just preferred to Holy Joe (sixth in the Prix Lutteur on his last start), and Crin Argente (The winner of the Prix Oural here in November, who makes his first appearance of the new year)
¦ ¹1èr CHOICE ¦:¬> Fustrien du Paon,
¦ ²e/w alternative ¦:¬>Crin Argente

¦ l' .è.l.è.p.h.a.n.t. ¦:¬>Eperson, Darius Quercus, Royal Standard, Kamillo, Baby Norm, Dark Steel, and Kafkaien have the best claims of those runners who line up for Division One of this hurdle event. Eperson, who won three times on the flat last season, will be strongly supported on the back of his promising fifth on his hurdles bow, however Darius Quercus, who beat all bar Cybergenics in the Prix Emilius (Hurdle) (Colts & Geldings) here last October gets the vote
¦ ¹1èr CHOICE ¦:¬> Darius Quercus,
¦ ²e/w alternative ¦:¬> Kamillo,

¦-------{a}{t}-{t}{h}{e}-{p}{o}{s}{t}-------¦
¦ l' .è.l.è.p.h.a.n.t. ¦:¬>All eyes will be on Maille Pistol, who makes his eagerly awaited hurdles debut in this event. Roi des Gabots, Saman Khan, Highest Tri Tri, Dress Speed, and Kiribas look his likeliest rivals... Its difficult to get away from this dual Group 2 winner, even though the ground may be quicker than ideal. If however he isn't fully wound up for this, don't be surprised if Francois Doumen's Roi des Gabots (a prosing fourth on his debut at Enghien) didn't take full advantage.
¦ ¹1èr CHOICE ¦:¬> Maille Pistol,
¦ ²e/w alternative ¦:¬>Saman Khan,

(3500 M 36000 Euro)

¦ l' .è.l.è.p.h.a.n.t. ¦:¬> Jocelin, Canadian River, Miss Cadine, Halomor, Joss De Champfeu, Kit Lawyer, Robertico and Milarepa look the likeliest winners of the finale. Jocelin, placed on his last two efforts over fences is a hopeful selection

¦ ²e/w alternative ¦:¬> Joss De Champfeu,

Success Stories

THE DERBY
"Dilshaan won the Dante in good style and is my preference from this camp purely in that tactics looks to be more straightforward for him and he looks assured to stay based on York. He also has the jockey for the big occasion on board. However, for the selection I will choose Galileo. Unbeaten and untested so far his best performance came last time and the form has already been devalued. Despite this it is the potential this one holds which fires my imagination and there seems an heir of confidence in the Irish camp. Unlike Hills and Stoute he is the sole representative from the 6 entries that O'Brien left in at the recent declaration stage. There are always question marks about Saddlers Well's stock and the 12F trip but Imagine went some way to putting that theory to bed yesterday. It also goes without saying that the stable are in simply super form which is another plus. I take him to beat Dilshaan and Putra Sandhurst. Golan (I think) will come full of running but not get home"
