IMPERIAL CUP HURDLE 2001 -

Whether it be "the race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs, we will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the fancied horses participating each day and their characteristics and requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides you with a winner or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a particular fancy of yours ... it may even convince you to back some of those horses which we feel are the "ones to fear", or have decent eachway claims. whichever is the case, we hope the information is of use to you.

SELECTIONS - For each race, I have given you who, in my view, are the likeliest winners, as well as horses who could run well at eachway odds. 'R#ecommended' horses have, in our view, the best chances of success each day. Any horses from our 'Horses To Follow' list are shown at the foot of each race's analysis. POSTING TIMES FOR SELECTIONS__ Selections for Monday - Friday should be available after 9:30pm the previous evening, however on Saturday and Sunday due to other commitments won't be posted until after 8:30am those respective mornings unless otherwise stated. Hopefully this helps

SANDOWN
Saturday 10th March
1:15 Dick McCreery Hunters' Chase (Class H) 10runners 2m 4f 110yds Penalty £3497:00 6yo plus
THE ROOK _Coulton and Simply Dashing totally dominate the opener, and whilst one of these is likely to win (Simply Dashing should really) I'd be prepared to take a chance with Secret Streams (eachway) who I at least has run well of late between the flag
'No.1 Choice' _ Secret Streams, (e/w)
'Alternative' _ Simply Dashing

1:45 Barclays Handicap Hurdle (For Amateur Riders) (Class E) 11runners 2m 110yds Penalty £4368:00 4yo plus
THE ROOK _The likely strong gallop here may count against Selberry, and therefore I'd go with Returning, who only just got touched off last at Folkestone to prevent Bella Macrae winning this for the Queen Mother
'No.1 Choice' _Returning 'R#ecommended'
'(e/w) Alternative' _ Bella Macrae,

2:20 Alvis Grand Military Gold Cup (Class E) (Chase For Amateur Riders) 13
Runners 3m 110yds Penalty £7117:50 6yo plus
THE ROOK _This is an open affair and as much as I like Flat Top, I cant bring myself to do him here despite being nicely in at the weights, after his jockey failed to get him home when looking all over the winner, when being robbed by Mister One here last time out. Caracol is a hopeful choice as he should love conditions, and has a decent pilot, I'd ignore his last effort at Fakenham where he never travelled , and must be worth an eachway 'nibble'
'No.1 Choice' __ Caracol, (e/w)
'Alternative' __ Flat Top

2:55 Burnt Oak & Special Cargo Novices' Chase (Class C) 10 runners 2m Penalty £6890:00 5yo plus
THE ROOK _Turgeonev, should ensure this is run at a true gallop. If that is the case then I can see this being fought out by Delayed (FR), Halexy (FR), and Gigolo Gerry. I just prefer Halexy (FR) over Delayed (FR). The selection is better than the form he showed when well beaten behind Buccaneer Boy at Exeter last time, and if he gets into his rhythm he may be able hold that rival at bay
'No.1 Choice' _Halexy (FR)
'(e/w) Alternative' _ Chevalier Errant
RUNNER(S) LISTED IN OUR "HORSES TO FOLLOW" FEATURE _Halexy (FR), Gigolo Gerry

3:30 European Breeders Fund 'National Hunt' Novices' Handicap Hurdle Final (Class A) (Grade 3) 15runners 2m 4f 110yds Penalty £18560:00 5, 6 and 7yo
THE ROOK _ This looks a good race on paper with the likes of Direct Access, Indian Scout, Ready To Rumble, Cruise The Fairway, Flying Trix, Mister Bigtime, Concert Pianist, Harry Harestone, Newick Park, Rescator, and Tyneandthyneagain, in the line -up. I will be expecting bold bids from those runners featured in our "HORSES TO FOLLOW" feature, in particular the warm favourite who has looked a useful recruit on all three stats this term, and is worthy of stepping up in grade. Tyneandthyneagain , Indian Scout, and Ready To Rumble, look the ones to fear
'No.1 Choice' _ Direct Access,
'(e/w) Alternative' _ Tyneandthyneagain
RUNNER(S) LISTED IN OUR "HORSES TO FOLLOW" FEATURE _Direct Access, Cruise The Fairway, Tyneandthyneagain, Soeur De Sentier, Rescator

4:05 Sunderland's Imperial Cup Hurdle (Showcase Handicap) (Class B) 23Runners 2m 110yds Penalty £23200:00 4yo plus
THE ROOK _ One of the more competitive renewals of the Imperial Cup of recent years; Dibea Times, Rooster Booster, Seixo Branco, Valiramix, Batswing, La Landiere, Magic Combination, Milligan, Copeland, One Nation, Flagship Colm, Deep Water, Eyeballs Out, Ferrers, and Ibal, all have claims. Arguably Valiramix is the form horse going into this having thrashed Landing Light at Ascot earlier in the season, however he may might just struggle here under 12-0. Last years winner Magic Combination would go close on that form,, but didn't look very enthusiastic at Musselburgh (admittedly over fences) on his reappearance and may be best left alone. Rooster Booster, is another to consider after his good effort in the Tote Gold Trophy, as is Batswing, a decisive winner last time out at Doncaster. I am though going to stay loyal to Dibea Times (FR), who has looked every inch as good a horse as when Christopher Iles first pointed him out to us in last summer after winning first time out at Auteuil when he totally unfancied, he has done nothing but flourish since then, and whilst he has no easy task here (effectively running off of top weight allowing for weight for age), if he really is Champion Hurdle class, he should be capable of demonstrating that here. La Landiere (FR) has well run in similar types of events and has good eachway claims, as does Ibal who like the pace of the race and may creep into a place
'No.1 Choice' _ Dibea Times (FR) 'R#ecommended'
'(e/w) Alternative' _ La Landiere (FR)
LONG*SHOT_Ibal (FR)
RUNNER(S) LISTED IN OUR "HORSES TO FOLLOW" FEATURE _Dibea Times (FR), La Landiere (FR), One Nation, Seixo Branco

4:40 Imber Court Handicap Chase (Class C) 9runners 3m 110yds Penalty £7377:50 5yo plus
THE ROOK _Real Value and Picket Piece make most appeal in the penultimate. I just prefer Real Value, who looked more like his self after some indifferent performance when winning well here last time out, and I just prefer him to Picket Piece, who finally has got the hang of chasing if judged on his good win at Leicester
'No.1 Choice' _ Real Value
'(e/w) Alternative' _ Fard Du Moulin Mas (FR )
RUNNER(S) LISTED IN OUR "HORSES TO FOLLOW" FEATURE _ Fard Du Moulin Mas (FR )

5:10 HMS Sandown Standard Open National Hunt Flat (Class H) 22runners 2m 110yds Penalty £2803:50 4, 5 and 6yo
THE ROOK _Beethoven looked very immature when winning at Ascot and will come on a lot for that effort. I prefer him to Another General in the finale. Ijika, and Pegasus The Paddy look worth noting in the betting exchanges
'No.1 Choice' _ Beethoven
'(e/w) Alternative' _ Ijika (FR)
RUNNER(S) LISTED IN OUR "HORSES TO FOLLOW" FEATURE _Beethoven
