Powers Gold Label Irish Grand National Chase Handicap 2001 (Grade A) (5yo+) -

Whether it be "the race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs, we will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the fancied horses participating each day and their characteristics and requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides you with a winner or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a particular fancy of yours ... it may even convince you to back some of those horses which we feel are the "ones to fear", or have decent eachway claims. whichever is the case, we hope the information is of use to you.

FAIRYHOUSE
Sunday 6th May
2:15 Blanchardstown Renault Hurdle
"THE ROOK " _Goldstreet, Holy Orders, Golden Storm, Rostropovich, Petersham, Lisaan, Albatros, and Le Sueur, appear to have the best claims in the opener
Goldstreet must have a good chance of beating the penalised runners here if he can run up to the form shown behind Youlneverwalkalone at Gowran. Rostropovich, reverting to 2m and after running creditably in the 2m4f Grade 1 event won by Colonel Braxton, though may be the more consistent and he gets the vote. is another who will be suited by the improved going. Petersham, who ran well in a 1m2f Newbury maiden in October, is an interesting eachway alternative.
"1st * Choice" _Rostropovich,
"(e/w) Alternative" _Petersham,

2:45 Powers Gold Label Novice Hurdle (Grade 2)
Runner[s] from our 2000/ N.H. [Horses to Follow] feature__ Joe Cullen
"THE ROOK " _Ned Kelly Ireland's leading novice hurdler over 2miles beat Grinkov and Joe Cullen in authoritative fashion in a Grade 1 event here on his latest start. Joe Cullen can be expected to get much closer this time, this quicker surface will suit him, and whilst I dearly want to see Joe Cullen win this, it is very hard to oppose Ned Kelly, who is the selection.
"1st * Choice" _Ned Kelly
"(e/w) Alternative" _

3:15 Leinster Petroleum Handicap Hurdle
"THE ROOK " _Keevers; who has been in good form of late, should go well in the third. Aunt Aggie, who ran well when fourth behind Hot Stuff on her latest start will appreciate the step up in distance here, and should run into a place (at the very least).
"1st * Choice" _Keevers
"(e/w) Alternative" _Aunt Aggie

4:00 Powers Gold Label Irish Grand National Chase Handicap (Grade A) (5yo+) Winner £81,500.00. To be run over 3m5f

[7] Lyreen Wonder A L T Moore B M Cash
[8] Private Peace Miss F M Crowley P A Carberry
[9] Feathered Leader A L T Moore tC O'Dwyer
[10] Sheltering E J O´Grady N Williamson
[11] Ardnataggle Joseph Quinn bS Fitzgerald
[12] David's Lad A J Martin tT J Murphy
[13] Florida Light Michael J McDonagh T P Rudd
[14] Kings Valley Noel Meade P Carberry
[15] Knights Of Kerry W P Mullins J Culloty
[16] Linden's Lotto A J Martin tA Maguire
[17] More Than A Stroll A L T Moore tD J Casey
[18] Northern Sound Paul A Roche G Cotter
[19] Nuzum Road Makers Michael Cunningham K P Gaule
[20] Peggy's Lad W P Mullins R Geraghty
[21] Shannon Gale C Roche P Moloney

"THE ROOK " _ A competitive renewal of the Irish Grand national, which should be run at a decent clip. Feathered Leader, Shannon Gale, Commanche Court, Foxchapel King, Sheltering, David's Lad, More Than A Stroll, Ferbet Junior, Rathbawn Prince, and Slaney Native, are the ones that appear to have the best chances. Last year's winner Commanche Court has a sound chance again, hopefully he's able put in a clear round this time, having ruined his chance with a bad blunder last time out. Feathered Leader has conditions to suit, and last year's sixth must go well off of only 10-1. however I have longed for Sheltering to run in a competitive handicap like this. As long as he gets into a rhythm, this top class hunter, who is unbeaten in four starts must go close off of only 10-0... he is the selection. Foxchapel King, who has run creditably all season in staying handicaps is the eachway alternative

"1st * Choice" _Sheltering,
"(e/w) Alternative" _Foxchapel King,

4:35 hackettbet.com Handicap Chase
"THE ROOK " _ I will always have a soft spot for Generosa, who provided me one of my best punting moments when winning the Stakis Casinos Hurdle, at the 1999 Cheltenham Festival. She was a good mare over hurdles, however hasn't really translated that to fences, however if she ever does, she is so well in over fences that she will win a race of this nature however I'm hoping it isn't today. Instead, Francines-Boy is the selection. He disappointed last time out at Leopardstown, however the distance may have been too far for him and he may be happier over this shorter trip and better ground.
"1st * Choice" _Francines-Boy
"(e/w) Alternative" _Lord-A-Dee,

5:10 Nuzum Beginners Chase
"THE ROOK " _Gregorio has a great chance in the sixth, however both he and Royal Marine, aren't the heartiest of battlers in a finish, therefore this may be a race best ignored ... River Pilot, bred to be a useful stayer on the flat, might just out speed them if he jumps round ... he's the gesture
"1st * Choice" _River Pilot
"(e/w) Alternative" _Precious Music,

5:45 Powers Gold Label Point-to-Point Championship Final
"THE ROOK " _ Noble Justice, Supreme Boss, Druid's Glen, Fowler, Prince On The Ter, Ballyhampshire Boy, Harithabad, Lay On McDuff, Oscar Performance, Trusting Tom, Distinctly Right, Push Button, Johnnys Gone, and Doodle Addle, all have chances in this Point-to-Point Championship Final. I know very little about he value of the form, however Fowler interests me as he may well be racing over here next term. He showed some promise when coming second at Carrigtwohill, and represents an eachway proposition at the very least
"1st * Choice" _ Fowler (e/w)
"(e/w) Alternative" _Harithabad (FR )
