LINGFIELD DERBY & OAKS TRIALS 2001-

SELECTIONS - For each race, I have given you who, in my view, are the likeliest winners, as well as horses who could run well at eachway odds. 'R*ecommended' horses have, in our view, the best chances of success each day. Any horses from our 'Horses To Follow' list are shown at the foot of each race's analysis. POSTING TIMES FOR SELECTIONS_ Selections for Monday - Friday should be available after 9:30pm the previous evening, however on Saturday and Sunday due to other commitments won't be posted until after 8:30am those respective mornings unless otherwise stated. Hopefully this helps

LINGFIELD
Saturday 12th May
1:40 Testers of Edenbridge Maiden Stakes Class D (Div I)
"THE ROOK " _Rajam, Guaranda, Dr Strangelove, Swordplay, Mesmeric, and Sannaan, are the only horses that make any appeal in the opener. Rajam who showed promise in two starts in France last term looks the safest option
"1st * Choice" _Rajam ,'R*ecommended'
"(e/w) Alternative" _

2:10 Testers of Edenbridge Maiden Stakes Class D (Div II)
"THE ROOK " _Security Council, Lyrical, Ennoblement, Murrendi, and Warrsan are the likeliest winners from Division II. Warrsan; a half-brother to numerous winners including Luso and Needle Gun, appeals on breeding however lack of experience may count against him, and Security Council who ran well behind Chancellor or his only start last term gets the vote
"1st * Choice" _Security Council
"(e/w) Alternative" _Warrsan

2:40 Arena Racing Oaks Trial Class A (Listed Race)
"THE ROOK " _A disappointingly poor turnout for the Oaks Trial. I cant see past Silver Grey Lady, who was so impressive at Newbury on her seasonal reappearance
"1st * Choice" _Silver Grey Lady,
"(e/w) Alternative" _

3:10 Durtnell Handicap Class B
"THE ROOK " _ Nothing Daunted, Big Future, Bon Ami, Border Subject, Duke Of Modena, Hand Chime, Kathology, Zucchero, Honest Borderer, Sir Effendi, and Grey Eminence, all have chances of sorts in the fourth. I am a fan of Big Future who could develop into a useful handicapper this term. He had useful form at three and is a hopeful selection
"1st * Choice" _Big Future
"(e/w) Alternative" _Honest Borderer,

3:40 Arena Racing Derby Trial Stakes Class A (Group 3)
"THE ROOK " _ Hardly the best Derby Trial you'll ever see, but these horses could develop into useful middle distance types. Perfect Sunday, will almost certainly go off favourite after beating Hyderabad decisively at Newmarket last time out. Not sure how to rate that form, particularly as Hyderabad, hardly advertised at Chester this week. Prize Winner, Sunny Glenn, Worthily, and When In Rome, cannot be ruled out either. I'd suggest a small wager on Xtra (eachway if offered) . He didn't run too badly behind Welsh Border at Newmarket on his only start and should appreciate this trip... on that form he had a solid chance of getting into the places
"1st * Choice" _Xtra (e/w) 'R*ecommended'
"Alternative" _Perfect Sunday,

4:10 Tote Scoop6 Sprint Showcase Handicap Class B
"THE ROOK " _ Blue Reigns, Armagnac, Rasoum, Threezedzz, Attorney, Lord Protector, Silla, Vicious Dancer, Firework, Flint River, Xipe Totec, Greenwood, Sir Francis, Elsie Plunkett, Y To Kman, and Fairgame Man, all have chances in a difficult handicap. Rasoum's form behind Munir at Newbury in the Greenham is the best on offer here, and he may appreciate coming back a furlong ... he is the tentative selection
"1st * Choice" _Rasoum,
"(e/w) Alternative" _ Silla,

4:40 Mer Car Polish Chartwell Fillies' Stakes Class A (Listed Race)
"THE ROOK " _Palace Affair who ran a good race to finish second in the Free Handicap is likely to take plenty of beating here, however Fatwa, Mauri Moon, Pearly Gates, May Ball, Green Tambourine, Goodie Twosues, Lady Miletrian, Rizerie are not without their chances. Fatwa who I have supported in both starts this term, ran well behind Rolly Polly at Newbury. That was in my view a step up on her previous effort, and is arguably the best recent form. If she reproduces that she'll take a lot of beating and therefore gets the vote
"1st * Choice" _Fatwa
"(e/w) Alternative" _Green Tambourine,

5:15 OCS Group Ladies Stakes (Handicap) Class F (Lady Amateur Riders)
"THE ROOK " _ Labrett, Hint Of Magic, Robellion, Tap, Amber Brown, Border Glen, Bellas Gate Boy, Topton, Betty Bathwick, Easter Ogil, Loch Laird, and Sumthinelse all have chances in the last. Not a race to get seriously involved in, however Amber Brown, has run well so far this term and appears to have a solid eachway chance ....... she gets the selection
"1st * Choice"_ Amber Brown (e/w)
"Alternative" _ Hint Of Magic

Success Stories

THE JULY MEETING
Gossamer (12/1), Proudwings (10/1), Meshaheer, Smirk, Silent Honor, Dubai Destination, Brave Burt, Cop My Gator, and Yorkshire, were winning selections for The Flatman, and The Rook at the meeting.

THE IRISH DERBY
Galileo won as expected, however Mordshi, and Pugin did us proud !!!

ROYAL ASCOT
Bank Hill (4/1), Medicean at (11/2), plus And Beyond (11/1), Supreme Encounter (7/1),Life is Life (2/1), Royal Rebel (8/1), Beekeeper (14/1), and Johannesburg (11/8) were our winners at the meeting.

THE DERBY
"Dilshaan won the Dante in good style and is my preference from this camp purely in that tactics looks to be more straightforward for him and he looks assured to stay based on York. He also has the jockey for the big occasion on board. However, for the selection I will choose Galileo. Unbeaten and untested so far his best performance came last time and the form has already been devalued. Despite this it is the potential this one holds which fires my imagination and there seems an heir of confidence in the Irish camp. Unlike Hills and Stoute he is the sole representative from the 6 entries that O'Brien left in at the recent declaration stage. There are always question marks about Saddlers Well's stock and the 12F trip but Imagine went some way to putting that theory to bed yesterday. It also goes without saying that the stable are in simply super form which is another plus. I take him to beat Dilshaan and Putra Sandhurst. Golan (I think) will come full of running but not get home"
