THE LOCKINGE STAKES 2001-

SELECTIONS - For each race, I have given you who, in my view, are the likeliest winners, as well as horses who could run well at eachway odds. 'R*ecommended' horses have, in our view, the best chances of success each day. Any horses from our 'Horses To Follow' list are shown at the foot of each race's analysis. POSTING TIMES FOR SELECTIONS_ Selections for Monday - Friday should be available after 9:30pm the previous evening, however on Saturday and Sunday due to other commitments won't be posted until after 8:30am those respective mornings unless otherwise stated. Hopefully this helps

NEWBURY
Saturday 19th May
1:30 Tote Bookmakers Stakes Showcase Handicap Class C
"THE ROOK " _ Very competitive opener to Newbury's card. Robendela, April Stock, Canford, Spring Pursuit, Sarangani, Veridian, and Bid For Fame, are amongst those heading the market. Robendela is likely to prove popular after her recent win at Newmarket over this distance, and she is certain to go well, however I marginally prefer April Stock, who stayed on well to catch Lady Two K at Bath 18 days ago. Inching Closer, only 1/2 length behind Robendela at Newmarket is weighted to beat her here, and looks a solid eachway alternative
"1st * Choice" _April Stock
"(e/w) Alternative" _ Inching Closer,

2:00 Grundon Recycle Stakes Class A (Registered As The Aston Park Stakes) (Listed Race)
"THE ROOK " _ A trappy conditions race comes next. Technically on their best form they all have claims although Jim Old would be well advised to curtail Zaajer's flat career and concentrate on the jumping campaign this former useful animal was clearly bought for (He'll probably go and win 10 lengths on the bridle now !!!). Sandmason looks the form horse, after his respectable second to Millenary in the Jockey Club Cup, however I just prefer Water Jump, who didn't achieve much by beating Eternal Spring at Ripon over 1m4f last time out, it was more the manner he dismissed his rivals that gives rise to hope .... Lets hope I'm right !!!
"1st * Choice" _ Water Jump
"(e/w) Alternative" _

2:35 Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes Class A (Group 1)
"THE ROOK " _ You wouldnt really want to rule any of the runners out of the race, now that Observatory bypasses the race, even Umistim has claims on his Guineas form of last term. There doesn't appear to be much pace in this which may suit the likes of Sugarfoot, Warningford, and Arkadian Hero, who ideal trip is 7furlongs. In my view, this leaves the likes of Swallow Flight, and Medicean vulnerable despite their obvious claims, therefore the consistent Danceabout, a tenacious winner over Alshakr at Newmarket last September. is preferred
"1st * Choice" _ Danceabout - She should be offered at an eachway price, therefore don't feel worried about playing safe
"(e/w) Alternative" _

3:10 Woodgates Maiden Stakes Class D
"THE ROOK " _ Although there may be some useful sorts in this field, National Park, who posted a good effort in defeat at Warwick looks the safest option
"1st * Choice" _National Park
"(e/w) Alternative" _ Ashgar Sayyad

3:40 Eastbury Handicap Class C
"THE ROOK " _Statue Gallery was a winning 12/1 selection for Furlong To Go on his latest start, when he flew up the short straight at Chester to snatch victory. If he handles the surface, it is hard not seeing him in the first four, however the likely strong pace here may aide Ynysmon (eachway) who only just failed to get up in a similar event at Windsor on Monday. If she gets some luck in running she should get into the first four
"1st * Choice" _Ynysmon (eachway)
"Alternative" _ Statue Gallery

4:10 Vineyard At Stockcross Fillies' Handicap Class D
"THE ROOK " _Unless you think Indian Silk is a good thing here, this looks impossible. Jamie Osborne's filly should go close having shown plenty on all of her three starts this term, winning two of them, however she might end up going off at prohibitive odds. I have to go with her though
"1st * Choice" _Indian Silk
"(e/w) Alternative" _ Thats Not Jazz

4:45 Joyce Frith Birthday Maiden Stakes Class D
"THE ROOK " _Some nice sorts line up in the last, really a race to watch than punt in. Torcello, Wings Of Soul (USA) , Continuation, Staging Post, Dress Rehearsal, Is Wonderful, Modena, Seagull, and Ya Habibi caught the eye. Wings Of Soul (USA) who ran so well behind Aldwych on his only start last term is just preferred
"1st * Choice" _Wings Of Soul (USA)
"(e/w) Alternative" _ Ya Habibi.

Success Stories

THE JULY MEETING
Gossamer (12/1), Proudwings (10/1), Meshaheer, Smirk, Silent Honor, Dubai Destination, Brave Burt, Cop My Gator, and Yorkshire, were winning selections for The Flatman, and The Rook at the meeting.

THE IRISH DERBY
Galileo won as expected, however Mordshi, and Pugin did us proud !!!

ROYAL ASCOT
Bank Hill (4/1), Medicean at (11/2), plus And Beyond (11/1), Supreme Encounter (7/1),Life is Life (2/1), Royal Rebel (8/1), Beekeeper (14/1), and Johannesburg (11/8) were our winners at the meeting.

THE DERBY
"Dilshaan won the Dante in good style and is my preference from this camp purely in that tactics looks to be more straightforward for him and he looks assured to stay based on York. He also has the jockey for the big occasion on board. However, for the selection I will choose Galileo. Unbeaten and untested so far his best performance came last time and the form has already been devalued. Despite this it is the potential this one holds which fires my imagination and there seems an heir of confidence in the Irish camp. Unlike Hills and Stoute he is the sole representative from the 6 entries that O'Brien left in at the recent declaration stage. There are always question marks about Saddlers Well's stock and the 12F trip but Imagine went some way to putting that theory to bed yesterday. It also goes without saying that the stable are in simply super form which is another plus. I take him to beat Dilshaan and Putra Sandhurst. Golan (I think) will come full of running but not get home"
