Whether
it be "the race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs, we
will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the fancied
horses participating each day and their
characteristics and requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides
you with a winner or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a
particular may even convince you to back some of those horses which we
feel are the "ones to fear", or have decent eachway claims.
whichever is the case, we hope the information is of use to you.
SELECTIONS
- For each race, we have given you who, in our view, are the likeliest
winners; (1er _ THE WINNER?), as well as any runners who could run well at
eachway odds; (E/W ALTERNATIVE). Any runner from our features are shown
before each race's analysis.

Kråch (FR)
¦¨¨FªNCIED¨RUNNERS?¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Kråch, Red Devil Robert, Mister Flint, Material World and Dooberry Firkin.
¦¨¨¨"Ò¨rØøk"¨¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Difficult call this, however we have been big fans of
Kråch since he made his debut in bumpers in France and although he has so far not
fulfilled the high opinion he was initially held in, almost certainly because of his
size], we don´t feel that British punters have seen the best of him yet; [he certainly
hasn´t run anyway near his best French form]. He did however win an Amateur riders flat race at
Fontainebleau over 1m5f in October so possibly he's strengthened up since he was
well-beaten by Ad Hoc in this a year ago... I marginally prefer him.

¦¨¨FªNCIED¨RUNNERS?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Got One Too (FR), Cenkos (FR), Bleu Superbe (FR), Hot Shots, and Upgrade.
¦¨¨¨"Ò¨rØøk"¨¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- After the way he bounded around Cheltenham a week ago, it is very difficult to see Got One Too getting turned over at these weights... as long as he
doesn´t get embroiled in a tussle for the lead from the start. Bleu Superbe and Kandjer
d´Allier are confirmed front-runners and if he is drawn into this battle, he may not have enough reserves to without a last thrust from Cenkos, Upgrade and Hot Shots, who will probably
be held up with a view to playing their hand as late as possible.

¦¨¨FªNCIED¨RUNNERS?¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Impek (FR), Ad Hoc, Horus, Behrajan, Iznogoud (FR),
Trésor De Mai (FR), Dear Deal and Royal Predica (FR).
¦¨¨¨"Ò¨rØøk"¨¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- This should be a more
searching test of Impek' s stamina than his win at Sandown and although he arguably seems a better horse at this
extended trip, this is by no means an easy ask. Assuming Behrajan forces the pace, you'd think that he's going to have try and not only get past him, but also
withhold any challenges from the "Nicholashayne Quartet" nevermind Ad Hoc who at this
meeting last year. Martin Pipe's stable form still gives rise to some concern as their horses still appear to be not quite
finishing their races, [particularly their younger/less-experienced horses], however all of them have fair weights here and arguably the least exposed of them, [at this trip anyway] is
Horus, who was a creditable second to Kingscliff on his reappearance here 28
days ago. He had an impossible task trying to give Kingscliff 7lbs that day, however the form of this race was boosted by both Kingscliff and Exit To Wave at Cheltenham last week. With Jamie Moore taking 3lbs off. I'd be prepared to take a
chance with him here.
¦¨¨1ª¨PLACE?¨¬¨THE WINNER?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Horus,

¦¨¨¨"Ò¨rØøk"¨¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Overstrand is bound to be popular here and if he replicates the form of his win in
the William Hill Handicap Hurdle at Sandown two weeks ago, he will be very hard to beat here. That
said, he isn´t as well treated as some and you can make strong cases for Tom Paddington, Saintsaire and Sud Bleu at these weights.
Süd Bleu flatters to deceive too often for my personal approval and will
probably win something like this one day, and whilst Saintsaire ran well at Newbury last time out, he has still got something to prove and if I was to
oppose the favourite it would probably be, [via a process of elimination], with Tom Paddington, who beat Sud Bleu in a
competitive handicap hurdle at Newbury on his first over hurdles for three years. Its just possible that he is still ahead of
the handicapper and We'll go with him. Those of you looking for eachway value have plenty of
alternatives, however we'll suggest two at very big odds; Visibility, who won here on his
reappearance, despite kicking most of the hurdles out of the way... could go well if the visor he
wears for the first time aides his concentration. The other horse is Man
O´Mystery, who is totally untrustworthy at the start, however possesses some of the best form in this race, if his Aintree second to Limerick Boy is a true
reflection of his abilities. We'll play safe personally, however we wouldn´t want to put off anyway willing to take a risk with
the latter.

¦¨¨¨"Ò¨rØøk"¨¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Fascinating clash here, should go
the way of Lillium De Cotte, who won impressively at Uttoxeter on his first appearance for Nicky Henderson. Supreme Prince, Tikram, See You Sometime and One Nation are all useful performers in their own right, however the weight-for-age concession does favour the selection if he puts in a clear round

¦¨¨¨"Ò¨rØøk"¨¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Difficult race to call with so many interesting newcomers, however the safest choice is Refinement, who was so impressive at Bangor on her debut, where she quickened impressively up the straight to beat Gotaknockonthehead by 3lengths. I acknowledge this is harder, however I'd be content to stick with her here. Newcomers The Thunderer, Good Samaritan and
point-to-point winner Only Wallis are the others I'd consider.

DEDICATION
FURLONG
TO GO would like to convey our condolences to the rook, whose father,
George Edward Robertson passed away on 16th April 2003.
Mr.
Robertson nurtured the rook's enthusiasm for this sport, and it was this
inspiration, which is probably behind the creation of this website. As a
permanent tribute to his memory, all the meetings covered under the
"feature Meeting" banner will be dedicated to him...

RASEN Saturday
31st August
3:00 Audrey Buttery Reunion Novices' Steeple Ch. -
£6000 added, 5yo plus, 2m 6f 110yds, penalty
£4111.25, 7 runners.
Ashgar, Misty Ridge, Sijujama, and Mount Gay, are
the only runners which make any sort of appeal in
the second. Punters are likely to have Ashgar down
as a banker, especially with "A.P." on board....
I can see where they are coming from, however he is
notoriously lazy and makes no appeal at likely
odds. He was very hesitant at his obstacles last
time out at Southwell and if one of his rivals were
to expose this weakness, he could even thrown in
the towel and sulk (which he has done before).
Misty Ridge and Mount Gay, have run creditably of
late over hurdles however it is Mount Gay [a
winning point-to-pointer], who may be able to take
him on. His second placing at Perth 27 days ago was
a sound effort, and he is in my view worth taking a
chance with {if they had been eight runners he'd
have been an excellent eachway wager}. Mount
Gay obliged at odds of 7/1.

MARKET RASEN
Saturday 20th July
Tote Scoop6 Summer Plate. (H´cap. Steeple Ch.). £65000 added, 5yo plus, 2m 4f, 16 runners.
"As much as I like Demasta, there is so much pace here, that I cant help but think that the front runners may go too fast for their own good here. It makes sense [in my view], to be looking for something likely to be able to travel well... and despite my very negative comments above... I have (since the runners were declared), had a lot of time for the chance of Chicuelo (at eachway odds). I think some horses suit certain trainers, and I think this horse has a better chance of winning a race like this with Martin Pipe than Ian Williams - not because I necessarily think Pipe is a far better trainer than Williams is... its more to do with understanding this type of horse.
Nicholashayne - more than most training establishments - does particularly with their foreign purchases. I think this is in part because due to the amount of time/effort they have invested into studying not only
French form, but also how certain trainers educate their young horses - adopting if/when necessary previous regime/style of training. Secondly, (more importantly), some
French breds improve after a season's
acclimatization. A look at this horse's form in France and you'll find, for example, his good third to Sleeping Night and Ilnamar (beaten 8½lengths) in the Prix Morgex (Chase) (Grade 3) , or his third to Sleeping Night and Douze Douze in the Prix Maurice Gillois Grand Steeple-Chase Des 4 Ans (Chase) (Grade 1) in November 2000. He has certainly been given a chance here off of only a handicap rating of 116, and I can't see him not finishing in the first four.... He'll do for me". "ANOTHER WINNER FOR "ONE TO JUMP
2003"
