Analysis
& Selections by
"a
rØøk"
Whether
it be "the race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs, we
will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the fancied
horses participating each day and their
characteristics and requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides
you with a winner or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a
particular may even convince you to back some of those horses which we
feel are the "ones to fear", or have decent eachway claims.
whichever is the case, we hope the information is of use to you.
Up to
the minute racing news....

SELECTIONS
- For each race, we have given you who, in our view, are the likeliest
winners; (1er _ THE WINNER?), as well as any runners who could run well at
eachway odds; (E/W ALTERNATIVE). Any runner from our features are shown
before each race's analysis.

Lightning
¦¨¨¨¨Ó¨rØøk¨¨¨¨¦¨¨¨¨»-- Lord Sam, Fork Lightening, and Sheer Genius are the three to concentrate on here. Lord Sam will be most pundits idea of the winner, however form lines through Native Emperor suggest Fork Lightening might give him plenty to think about were he to put in a clear round here...don't be too surprised if he bustles up Victor
Dartnall' s charge.

Caracciola (GER)
¦¨¨¨¨Ó¨rØøk¨¨¨¨¦¨¨¨¨»-- Having lowered the colours of Thisthatandtother over course and distance last month, it'll be a bit of a surprise if
Caracciola was turned over here (granted of course a clear round). Atum Re (beaten 4 lengths by
Thisthatandtother) may give him most to do.
¦¨¨1ª¨PLACE?¨¬¨THE WINNER?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Caracciola (GER)

¦¨¨¨¨ºNE¨TO¨JUMP¨¨¨¨¦ ¬: Are there any horses from "ºNE TO JUMP" 2003/4 - Our feature which; each season, provides a list of horses to follow during the current national hunt season? ¦¨¨¨¨¨»-- Port du Salet (FR),
¦¨¨¨¨Ó¨rØøk¨¨¨¨¦¨¨¨¨»-- A very open looking Novice event with plenty of possibles. Space Cowboy (12 lengths second
Maharbal at Newbury in December), Mio Caro (second to Dickens at Sandown), Major Speculation (an easy winner at Newbury before disappointing behind Trouble At Bay at Cheltenham last time out), Shamdian (6 lengths behind Mio Caro at Sandown) and Tusk (a useful performer on the flat who finished 4th behind Mio Caro and Shamdian on his debut at Sandown) all have shown promise over obstacles and warrant respect. However, the most interesting runner is probably the ex-German trained Cherub. A useful middle-distance performer on the level who could be very interesting if he takes to the game. Strong support for him in the market could be significant and we'll make him our selection, particularly if he is currently offered at reasonable each-way odds. Mio Caro may give him most to do.
¦¨¨1ª¨PLACE?¨¬¨THE WINNER?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Cherub (GER), (e.W.)
¦¨¨2ª¨Place?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Mio Caro (FR)
¦¨¨3ª¨Place?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Shamdian
¦¨¨¨¨¨¨Fourth¨Race¨¨¨¨¨¨¦¨¨¨¨¨»-- 2.35 Jupiter Isa Handicap
Steeple-CH´. [B]. This race will be run over 2Miles~4f 110yds Penalty € 12035 5-Year-Olds plus. 1st - £12,035, 2nd - £4,482, 3rd - £2,216, 4th - £980 10 Declared

¦¨¨¨¨Ó¨rØøk¨¨¨¨¦¨¨¨¨»-- Another open affair where you can make cases for virtually all of the field. The form horse is probably avalanche who ran well for 2m4f behind Killarney here in December. However, one place behind him was Top Buck who never really figured that day but has plenty of form lines at this trip. This lightly-raced individual wouldn't have to improve much on that form to figure here and could be worth chancing.
¦¨¨1ª¨PLACE?¨¬¨THE WINNER?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Top Buck
¦¨¨2ª¨Place?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Avalanche
¦¨¨3ª¨Place?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Cameron Bridge
¦¨¨¨¨¨¨Fifth¨Race¨¨¨¨¨¨¦¨¨¨¨¨»-- 3.10 Pacemaker Magazine Handicap Hurdle [C]. This race will be run over 2Miles~5f Penalty € 6191.49 5-Year-Olds plus. 1st - £6,191, 2nd - £2,324, 3rd - £1,149, 4th - £509 14 Declared
|¯±¯±¯[ªt¯the¯post]¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯|
¦¨¨¨¨Ó¨rØøk¨¨¨¨¦¨¨¨¨»-- Course and distance winner Il Cavalière is likely to prove popular here, particularly with Ruby Walsh on board, especially after his 2nd over course and distance behind Count Tony last time out. He is sure to go close, however I feel that
Shalako could be the one to be on here, particularly with Phillip Hobbs` yard beginning to return to form. He has run well in most of the better handicap hurdles this season and although beaten 26 lengths by redemption last time out at Cheltenham he probably wouldn't have to improve much on that to be competitive here. I'll take a chance with him. Top weight Glacial Sunset was a model of consistency last season and with Colin
Tinkler' s yard running so well at present, he certainly merits each-way interest.
¦¨¨1ª¨PLACE?¨¬¨THE WINNER?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Shalako (USA)
¦¨¨2ª¨Place?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Glacial Sunset, (e.W.)
¦¨¨3ª¨Place?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Il Cavalière
¦¨¨¨¨¨¨Sixth¨Race¨¨¨¨¨¨¦¨¨¨¨¨»-- 3.40 Tote Scoop6 Lanzarote Hurdle [Handicap] [B]. This race will be run over 2Miles~ Penalty € 29000 4-Year-Olds plus. 1st - £29,000, 2nd - £11,352, 3rd - £5,601, 4th - £2,464 11 Declared

¦¨¨¨¨ºNE¨TO¨JUMP¨¨¨¨¦ ¬: Are there any horses from "ºNE TO JUMP" 2003/4 - Our feature which; each season, provides a list of horses to follow during the current national hunt season? ¦¨¨¨¨¨»-- Kadount (FR),
¦¨¨¨¨Ó¨rØøk¨¨¨¨¦¨¨¨¨»-- A fascinating handicap hurdle. Former useful
juvenile Green Hope is certain to be strongly fancied to give Nicky Henderson another big win in handicap company this season. However, he meets stiff opposition in the form of
Perouse who only just failed to land a 4-timer at Cheltenham last time out. Limerick Boy ( a decent novice last season) who was so disappointing on his last start behind Tramantano at Newbury in November...he is much better than this form and Kadount, our 'One To Jump' feature horse who is unbeaten in this country having beaten Almaravide, ( a winner since) last time out at Leicester. This is
Kadount' s hardest task to date, however he has done nothing wrong so far and despite this relatively stiff task, he is
definitely capable of going close here granted a clear round, We'll stay loyal to him here.
¦¨¨1ª¨PLACE?¨¬¨THE WINNER?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Kadount (FR)
¦¨¨2ª¨Place?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Perouse
¦¨¨3ª¨Place?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Limerick Boy
¦¨¨¨¨¨¨Seventh¨Race¨¨¨¨¨¨¦¨¨¨¨¨»-- 4.10 Middlesex Novices´ Hurdle [D]. This race will be run over 2Miles~5f Penalty € 5057 5-Year-Olds plus. 1st - £5,057, 2nd - £1,536, 3rd - £758, 4th - £369 15 Declared
|¯±¯±¯[ªt¯the¯post]¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯±¯|
¦¨¨¨¨NEXT¨TIME¨OUT¨¨¨¨¦ ¬: Are there any horses from "NEXT TIME OUT?" - Our feature which; each week, provides a list of horses to follow during the remainder of the current national hunt season? ¦¨¨¨¨¨»--Ammonias (GER)
¦¨¨¨¨Ó¨rØøk¨¨¨¨¦¨¨¨¨»-- A good opportunity for Overstrand to get back into winning ways after his disappointing run (in the
Ladbroke Hurdle) at Ascot last month. A bad error at the fifth knocked him out of contention and he will need to be spot-on to concede 11lbs-plus to his rivals, the most interesting of whom is former useful German performer
Ammonias who ran with a lot of promise behind Cardenås at Newbury on his British debut. If you don't want to take the odds about the likely favourite, you could do a lot worse than have an each-way investment on Charlie Mann's runner.
¦¨¨1ª¨PLACE?¨¬¨THE WINNER?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Overstrand
¦¨¨2ª¨Place?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Ammonias (GER), (e.W.)
¦¨¨3ª¨Place?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Yardbird

DEDICATION
FURLONG
TO GO would like to convey our condolences to the rØøk, whose father,
George Edward Robertson passed away on 16th April 2003.
Mr.
Robertson nurtured the rØøk 's enthusiasm for this sport, and it was this
inspiration, which is probably behind the creation of this website. As a
permanent tribute to his memory, all the meetings covered under the
"feature Meeting" banner will be dedicated to him...

LEOPARDSTOWN
Sunday, February 9.
3:40 Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup (Grade 1) 3miles. 1st - €97,700 , 2nd - €32,000 , 3rd - €16,000 , 4th - €6,400 6Declared
"After the slightly disappointing effort of Marlborough, who is a timely reminder to Best Mate fans of how hard a race the King George turned into at Christmas it's fair to say that the door of opportunity is slightly ajar for Beef Or Salmon, Colonel Braxton, Florida Pearl, Harbour Pilot or Rince Ri, to make a case for them landing the big prize in around five weeks time. Poor old Florida Pearl has been written off again after a couple of mediocre efforts this term. That said, going into this race he is without doubt the best of these and would win this if back in that frame of mind. Willie Mullins has unfortunately experienced
several problems in preparing him for battle this season and whilst his obvious class could still
"out", I couldn't suggest him to you with any confidence at all...I don't intend to. Harbour Pilot and Rince Ri both are fitted with first time out blinkers which presumably in both cases is intended to spark some enthusiasm...that reason alone is probably enough to pass both of them over. That leaves the two young pretenders, Beef Or Salmon and Colonel Braxton apparently looking to have the strongest
claims. I have a similar view on both of these two horses as I wouldn't mind seeing both of them get "roughed up" here by the old pros and even turned over by one of them. It'll make connections realise exactly what will happen come the big day in March, however recent evidence suggests that isn't likely. There wasn't much to choose between these two in the Ericsson Chase at Christmas
and I doubt there will be much to choose between them at the business end today. Unless they stretch him, it is difficult to see these rivals having the pace to beat Beef Or Salmon, although it would be useful to see how he coped if that did occur. We would be in a better position to judge how realistic his Gold Cup claims are".
Beef or
Salmon advertises his Gold Cup claims with an emphatic win... another win for our "one To Jump" feature

LEOPARDSTOWN

1:50 Pierse Leopardstown H 'cap Chase (5yo+) Winner £42,207.79. (4800

- €4,000 11Declared
"Youlneverwalkalone, Eskimo Jack, Foxchapel King, Rince Rì, Macs
Gildoran and Michael Mor are the horses to concentrate on in the
third. The presence of top-weights Foxchapel King and Rince Ri
truncates the long handicap and they should be capable of running well
despite their big weights. Realistically though, they might struggle
to beat Youlneverwalkalone and Eskimo Jack. If these two improvers
take advantage off of their weights. I was impressed with Eskimo Jack
last time where he won cosily at Navan, however he has never displayed
the talent we probably know is possessed by Youlneverwalkalone and
whilst he has a questionable temperament, he did impress when beating
Be My Belle at Thurles before staying on strongly behind Fondmort and
Folly Pleasant. He is not much of a price but in my view he is the
most likely to prevail".
Youlneverwalkalone wins at
odds of 7/2
2:20 Pierse

"Xenophon - Lightly raced but potentially progressive gelding who
split Clune River and Mr. Sneaky Boo at their
seasonal reappearance at Punchestown in November".
"summary" - With a strong pace assured I like the look of
those likeliest to come off of the pace. The lightly-raced Xenophon
appeals most if he gets the run of the race. Janidou, Greywell and The
Dark Flasher will probably follow him home.
Xenophon wins at odds of
12/1... The latest winner from our "one to Jump" feature
