HUNTER CHASE MEETING AT CHELTENHAM 2001-

SELECTIONS - For each race, I have given you who, in my view, are the likeliest winners, as well as horses who could run well at eachway odds. 'R*ecommended' horses have, in our view, the best chances of success each day. Any horses from our 'Horses To Follow' list are shown at the foot of each race's analysis.

POSTING TIMES FOR SELECTIONS_ Selections for Monday - Friday should be available after 9:30pm the previous evening, however on Saturday and Sunday due to other commitments won't be posted until after 8:30am those respective mornings unless otherwise stated. Hopefully this helps

Cheltenham Hunter Chase Evening
Wednesday 23rd May, 2001

Usually, the Feature Meeting is the major meeting of the weekend, or a significant midweek meeting. I thought for a change, that this card deserves that 'honour'

5.45 Cheltenham Kall Kwik 20th Anniversary Maiden Hunters' Chase (Class H) £3000 added, 5yo plus, 2m 5f, penalty £2535.00, 20 runners.
Runner[s] from our 2000/2001 N.H. 'Horses to Follow' feature__ Quarterstaff,
"THE ROOK " _ Mine's A Gin, Kerry Soldier Blue, Mr Mann, Mister Kingston, Nasone, Quarterstaff, Team Captain, Hatton Farm Babe, Aintgottime, Blackchesters, Givus A Hand, Executive Office, and Inch Cross all have claims in the opener. Mine's A Gin; who ran so well at Exeter last time out, and Quarterstaff; (who wont be far away if he repeats the level of form shown here in this event last year), look the likeliest winners on paper, however I intend being bold this evening, and Mr Mann really caught the eye at Stratford 9 days ago, (travelling very sweetly throughout, only just run out of it in the straight), and he may just be able to prevail, or that's the plan anyway !!!. Of the others Blackchesters, who ran well behind Minella Silver at Bangor looks the best "(e/w) Alternative"
"1st * Choice" _ Mr Mann
"(e/w) Alternative" _ Blackchesters

6.20 Faucets Perrin And Rowe Classical Bathroom Fittings Champion Hunters' Chase (Class H) £12000 added, 5yo plus, 3m 2f 110yds, penalty £8775.00, 15 runners.
Runner[s] from our 2000/2001 N.H. 'Horses to Follow' feature__ Blanville (FR)
"THE ROOK " _ Gunner Welburn, Last Option, Mighty Moss, Blanville, Silverdalesureshot, and Balisteros make up a fantastic field for the second. This is very hard call because they've all 'done a favour; in their time. Last Option, a great "(e/w) Alternative" of ours in the Scottish Grand National appears to have condition to suit, and must go close, however I've long waited to see Blanville move up to this division, and it wouldnt be the greatest surprise if young Mr Scouller manages to steer this formally useful french chaser home first here
"1st * Choice" _ Blanville
"(e/w) Alternative" _ Silverdalesureshot

6.55 Winning Post At Cheltenham Hunters' Chase (Class H) £7000 added, 5yo plus, 4m 1f, penalty £5528.25, 28 runners.
Runner[s] from our 'Future Winners' feature__ Eloi II
"THE ROOK " _ Fair Wind, Starpath, County Derry, Overflowing River, The Hobbit, Forest Fountain, Rusty Fellow, Keeper's Call, Eloi II, and Bright Approach, get my seal of approval in the third. Starpath, and Fair Wind looks the ones to be one if they get round, however that isn't guaranteed and The Hobbit, who will make get every yard of this trip is a safer choice. Of more interest are the claims of Eloi II, of whom Christopher Iles our French racing correspondent stated "Eloi II is A fairly experienced chaser who mainly ran round Enghien. He's nothing special but should be able to find a hunter-chase or a few points next season. The jockey booking catches the eye, and he may be worth noting in the market exchanges
"1st * Choice" _ The Hobbit
"(e/w) Alternative" _ Eloi II

7.30 Endsleigh Insurance Hunters' Chase (Class H) £4000 added, 5yo plus, 2m 5f, penalty £3486.00, 24 runners.
Runner[s] from our 2000/2001 N.H. 'Horses to Follow' feature__ Philtre,
"THE ROOK " _Shanavogh, Litchanine, Philtre, Verrazano Bridge, Mick Mackie, Mr Dow Jones, Tubber Roads, and Secret Streams, caught the eye in the fourth. I do like Litchanine here. He doesn't have the form on the book like say Shanavogh (still going well in front when running out last time), Philtre, and Verrazano Bridge, but there was plenty to like about the manner in which he won at Huntingdon last time out... I'll be hoping that is the case anyway !!!
"1st * Choice" _ Litchanine 'R*ecommended'
"(^e/w) Alternative" _ Secret Streams

8.05 Colin Nash Memorial United Hunts' Challenge Cup Hunters' Chase (Class H) £5000 added, 6yo plus, 3m 1f 110yds, penalty £3688.75, 15 runners.
"THE ROOK " _Gildrom has a relatively straightforward task in the fifth. He may not be the best jumper amongst these, but he definitely posses an engine, and that's half the job.... I really cant see him getting beaten with a clear round
"1st * Choice" _ Gildrom,
"(e/w) Alternative" _ Fresh Prince

8.45 Cheltenham Sponsorship Club Hunters' Chase (Class H) £4000 added, 5yo plus, 2m 110yds, penalty £3178.00, 22 runners.
"THE ROOK " _ Wrens Island, Badger Beer, Justin Mac, Rustic Revelry, Cede Nullis, and Boozeandyoulose, are the only horses to make any appeal in the last. Assuming Badger Beer attempts to make all (possibly a mistake in this cavalry charge) then it may be set up for Cede Nullis, who came from well off the pace to win at Huntingdon last time out
"1st * Choice" _ Cede Nullis
"(e/w) Alternative" _ Boozeandyoulose

I hope this is of use, and hopefully if you go, you have a great evening !!!

Success Stories

THE JULY MEETING
Gossamer (12/1), Proudwings (10/1), Meshaheer, Smirk, Silent Honor, Dubai Destination, Brave Burt, Cop My Gator, and Yorkshire, were winning selections for The Flatman, and The Rook at the meeting.

THE IRISH DERBY
Galileo won as expected, however Mordshi, and Pugin did us proud !!!

ROYAL ASCOT
Bank Hill (4/1), Medicean at (11/2), plus And Beyond (11/1), Supreme Encounter (7/1),Life is Life (2/1), Royal Rebel (8/1), Beekeeper (14/1), and Johannesburg (11/8) were our winners at the meeting.

THE DERBY
"Dilshaan won the Dante in good style and is my preference from this camp purely in that tactics looks to be more straightforward for him and he looks assured to stay based on York. He also has the jockey for the big occasion on board. However, for the selection I will choose Galileo. Unbeaten and untested so far his best performance came last time and the form has already been devalued. Despite this it is the potential this one holds which fires my imagination and there seems an heir of confidence in the Irish camp. Unlike Hills and Stoute he is the sole representative from the 6 entries that O'Brien left in at the recent declaration stage. There are always question marks about Saddlers Well's stock and the 12F trip but Imagine went some way to putting that theory to bed yesterday. It also goes without saying that the stable are in simply super form which is another plus. I take him to beat Dilshaan and Putra Sandhurst. Golan (I think) will come full of running but not get home"
