Analysis & Selections by l' .è.l.è.p.h.a.n.t.
- Whether it be "the
race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs, we will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the fancied horses participating each day and their characteristics and requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides you with a winner or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a particular may even convince you to back some of those horses which we feel are the "ones to fear", or have decent eachway claims. whichever is the case, we hope the information is of use to you.
SELECTIONS - For each race, we have given you who, in our view, are the likeliest winners; [¹ NØ.1 CHOICE], as well as any runners who could run well at eachway odds; [²E/W
ALTERNATIVE] . Any runner from our features are shown before each race's analysis.

1er LONGCHAMP - PRIX DE CHEFFREVILLE; Distance : 2000 m.

¦ l' .è.l.è.p.h.a.n.t. ¦:¬>Trumbaka, Orange Pic Hoy, Drama Playout, Mer De Corail, and Heed the Way look the best of the ten runners who line up in the
opener at Longchamp. Trumbaka, who finished second here at the end of March 2001, Drama Playout, a winner over this trip at
Fontainebleau two weeks ago and Orange Pic Hoy, a maiden , who has been placed in all of his third starts, most recently at Maison-Laffitte look
to have the best claims ... Drama Playout gets the call.
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬> Drama Playout,
¦ 2nd Choice ¦:¬>Trumbaka,
¦ 3rd Choice ¦:¬>Orange Pic Hoy, (e/w)
2e LONGCHAMP - PRIX DE SAINT-GEORGES, Distance : 1000 m.

¦ l' .è.l.è.p.h.a.n.t. ¦:¬> A slightly disappointing turnout for the next. Ishiguru,
representing Ballydoyle, appears to have th best claims, however Repertory, (a speedy individual on his day, who will need to
improve on a disappointing effort in Italy last time), Maybe Forever, Slap Shot , who has been running well in Italy, General Ridge and Red Millennium could make things
difficult ... not enough to take the prize away from him however
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬>Ishiguru
¦ 2nd Choice ¦:¬>Slap Shot
¦ 3rd Choice ¦:¬>General Ridge, (e/w)
3e LONGCHAMP - PRIX DE LA CONCORDE, Distance : 2000 m.

¦ l' .è.l.è.p.h.a.n.t. ¦:¬> Principat, Danger Money, Salvateur, Minuit Noir, Joop Béré, Kaizen, Tracidor, Coming Home, Tikzane, and Pisanello are horses in
form that should dominate the finish (hopefully) of the third. Minuit Noir, who won here over course and distance at the beginning of April, has won three of his last
four starts... if he gets the run of the race, this gelding's finishing burst could prove divisive. Danger Money, who should
come on for his first run of the season, looks the one to fear.
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬>Minuit Noir,
¦ 2nd Choice ¦:¬> Danger Money,
¦ 3rd Choice ¦:¬> Joop Béré, (e/w)
4e LONGCHAMP - GAINSBOROUGH POULE D'ESSAI DES POULAINS (Groupe 1), Distance : 1600 m.
¦¤¤¤¤¤¤{a}{t}-{t}{h}{e}-{p}{o}{s}{t}¤¤¤¤¤¤¦
¦ l' .è.l.è.p.h.a.n.t. ¦:¬> Medecis, Studio Time, Landseer, Guys And
Dolls, Redback, Bowman, Della Francesca, Shaanmer, and Keramani all can be given chances in a an open
renewal of the French 2000 Guineas. The home challenge is lead by Shaanmer unbeaten in three outings at two, who was most impressive when landing the Prix des Chenes (Group 3) (Colts & Geldings) here over course and distance in
October. He is almost certainly going to be decent this season, but more likely at middle distances rather than the mile trip he is
asked to cover here. That said he is too good to dismiss and must go well.
Those comments apply to Medecis, Bowman, and Landseer who all met in a muddling renewal of the Prix de Fontainebleau (Group 3) (Colts) (3yo). Of that occasion
Bowman landed the prize but there is no guarantee of him conforming form here in a race likely to run at a far stronger pace. Guys And Dolls, (on his form in France last term) and Redback should go well, however I'd be surprised if Redback was allowed to dictate matter in the manner he has so far this season, and it would not surprise me if Guys
And Dolls didn't reverse Greenham form. Personally I think the stronger the pace, the more
likely a home win and Medecis, is taken to land the prize from Shaanmer (who may prove ultimately to be his superior) and Bowman
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬> Medecis,
¦ 2nd Choice ¦:¬>Shaanmer
¦ 3rd Choice ¦:¬>Bowman
5e LONGCHAMP - GAINSBOROUGH POULE D'ESSAI DES POULICHES (Groupe 1), Distance : 1600 m.
¦¤¤¤¤¤¤{a}{t}-{t}{h}{e}-{p}{o}{s}{t}¤¤¤¤¤¤¦
¦ l' .è.l.è.p.h.a.n.t. ¦:¬> Firth of Lorne, Rum Charger, Sophisticat, Dedication, Glia, Polygreen, Danseuse d'Etoile, Heat Haze and Massarra look
the best of the fillies who line up in the French 1000 Guineas.... Not sure
who'll go off as favourite... Glia took the Prix Imprudence (Listed) (Fillies) (3yo) at Maison Lafitte at the beginning of March, beating
Dedication over seven furlongs. She should see out the extra furlong and should go well, as should Sophisticat, who landed the Prix de la Grotte (Group 3) a month ago, beating Firth Of Lorne, and Danseuse
D'Etoile. She's battle-hardened and looks ready for battle, unlike Firth Of Lorne who ran well that day but lacks experience for what may prove to be a rough race. Dedication did nothing wrong when upped in class behind Glia and will appreciate this longer trip, whilst Dermot Weld's Rum Charger who won a Listed event at the Curragh last week has eachway claims. I am very sweet on
the chances of Heat Haze. She is highly rated by connection and after winning cosily on her debut. she was unlucky to lose her unbeaten
record in the Prix du Bois Rouaud, which was run at a funeral pace, which clearly
didn't suit. I can see her getting into the first three, despite her outside draw, and she certainly warrants eachway
consideration.
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬> Heat Haze, (e/w if offered)
¦ 2nd Choice ¦:¬>Dedication,
¦ 3rd Choice ¦:¬>Sophisticat,
6e LONGCHAMP - PRIX LUPIN (Groupe 1), Distance : 2100

¦ l' .è.l.è.p.h.a.n.t. ¦:¬> Act One, Ballingarry, Caesarion, Without Connexion and Tau Ceti are the ones i'd consider in the 6th, though in all reality Act One looks heads and shoulders above this lineup. I was lucky enough to see his victory over Landseer and Guys and Dolls last
season in the Criterium International (Group 1), and he proved he trained on when beating Caesarion and Without Connexion in the Prix Greffulhe (Group 2) here a month
ago. Ballingarry, the winner of the Criterium de Saint-Cloud (Group 1) in November provides stiff
opposition, however I expect Act One to be able to quell this challenge
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬>Act One
¦ 2nd Choice ¦:¬>Ballingarry,
¦ 3rd Choice ¦:¬> Caesarion
7e LONGCHAMP - PRIX DES CHAMPS ELYSEES, Distance : 2000 m.
¦¤¤¤¤¤¤{a}{t}-{t}{h}{e}-{p}{o}{s}{t}¤¤¤¤¤¤¦
¦ l' .è.l.è.p.h.a.n.t. ¦:¬> Sadaf, Espoir du Bocage, Le Roi Chic, Gris et Noir, Hiskalda, Tibbie Shiels, Fils du Nil, and Canzona appear to have the best claims in the
seventh on the card. Tibbie Shiels, placed on his last four starts, and Fils du Nil, who has run well in three handicaps this year
shouldn't be too far away, however Sadaf's fourth in the Prix Pavillion Royal here at the end of April looks the best bit of form and he is a hopeful
selection
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬>Sadaf,
¦ 2nd Choice ¦:¬> Tibbie Shiels
¦ 3rd Choice ¦:¬> Fils du Nil,
8e LONGCHAMP - PRIX DU MAIL, Distance : 2700 m.

¦ l' .è.l.è.p.h.a.n.t. ¦:¬> A Conditions event ends proceedings, Spain Wells, who has
finished second on both starts at Angers and Compiegne is difficult to oppose. Toutankhamon, (who should
improve with experience), and - Zarewitch (a winner at Compiegne in March) look
his main dangers
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬>Spain Wells,
¦ 2nd Choice ¦:¬>Toutankhamon, (e/w)
¦ 3rd Choice ¦:¬>Zarewitch
