Analysis & Selections by
.t.h.e. r.o.o.k.
- Whether it be "the
race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs, we will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the fancied horses participating each day and their characteristics and requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides you with a winner or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a particular may even convince you to back some of those horses which we feel are the "ones to fear", or have decent eachway claims. whichever is the case, we hope the information is of use to you.
SELECTIONS - For each race, we have given you who, in our view, are the likeliest winners; [¹ NØ.1 CHOICE], as well as any runners who could run well at eachway odds; [²E/W

¦ .t.h.e. r.o.o.k. ¦:¬>Lady Zonda, Sentimental Value, Wild Fling, and Key Virtue, make most
appeal in the opening event on the card. With Henry Cecil's cards appearing to have returned to form Sentimental Value, who
finished fifth over 1m2f 10 days ago at Lingfield is likely to prove popular. I
like Wild Fling, who "won" the Newmarket Challenge Whip at the Guineas Meeting. This likeable son of Entrepreneur could do no more than win and should go close here
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬>Wild Fling,

2:30 Newton Investment Management Stakes - (H' cap De Categorie) £15000 added, 4yo plus, 1m, penalty £11163.75, 15 runners.

¦ .t.h.e. r.o.o.k. ¦:¬> Wood Dalling, Musical Heath, Persiano, Burgundy, Muchea, J R Stevenson, Just Nick, Eastern Breeze and Finished Article all have claims in the second on
the card. Persiano, who made a pleasing reappearance at Newmarket 34 days ago behind Sea Star, staying on nicely in the final furlong. this course and distance winner should be
straighter here and can defy top weight
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬> Persiano,

¦ are there any runners from "THEY'RE OFF" our feature which; each season, provides a list of horses to follow during the flat season? ¦:¬>Gateman
¦ .t.h.e. r.o.o.k. ¦:¬>This appears on the face on it to be between Gateman, who we added to our horses to follow feature
"THEY'RE OFF" after his excellent third placing behind Chookie Heiton at York
last week, and Smokin Beau, who beat all bar Kyllachy in the Victor Chandler Palace House Stakes (Class A) (Group 3) at the Guineas Meeting. If this
doesn't come too soon then Gatemen, (who receives 9lbs from Smokin Beau) may
just come out on top.
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬>Gateman

3:40 Letheby & Christopher Predominate Stakes (Listed Race) (Colts & Geldings) £35000 added, 3yo only colts and geldings, 1m 3f, penalty £20300, 6 runners.

¦ .t.h.e. r.o.o.k. ¦:¬>All eyes will be on Dubai Destination, one of last season's best 2-year-olds who has not been seen on the racecourse since demonstrating an electric turn of foot to pass this season's 2000 Guineas winner Rock Of Gibraltar in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster last September. He is without doubt a horse of immense potential who over the coming months will no doubt figure in many of the major middle-distance races...that is of course assuming that he is trained on. There is plenty of speculation in the press to the effect that Dubai Destination has been slow to come to hand which is why he is only now returning to the racetrack. Comments from connections also suggest that he has literally only just come to hand in time for this race. Bearing in mind his potential, I would be amazed if he were 100% fit here and therefore, considering that he must give weight away to the likes of Sparkling Water (a good 2nd to Fight Your Corner at Chester last time), Play A Part (a good 3rd at Chester last time behind Sohaib on a course which probably didn't suit), Highdown (who beat Dante Stakes winner Moon Ballard at Newmarket) and the relatively unexposed Coshocton (who will have come on for his first run in the 2000 Guineas). Godolphin have set Dubai Destination a fairly serious question first time out. Bearing in mind he was turned over on his debut, it would not be in the least bit surprising if he were to run well in defeat. He is though one of the few really exciting 3-year-olds this side of the water and I'll be hoping that he is able to concede weight to this useful field.
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬>Dubai Destination

¦ .t.h.e. r.o.o.k. ¦:¬> Gallant Boy, Takes Tutu, Prince Hector, Harnour, Zandicular, Passing Glance, Imbibing and Celtic Ballet all have chances in a typical Goodwood handicap. Gallant Boy, who ran well on his seasonal reappearance at Newbury is likely to prove popular here (especially with Kieran Fallon onboard) however, Takes Tutu is the selection (again). He has been a really good
money spinner for connections (and us) this season and he did nothing wrong last time out when finishing not that far behind the eventual winner Serieux at York. He is attractively weighted here off of 7st 13lbs (compliments of stablemate Leo's Luckyman
whose presence has contracted the handicap) and can reverse form with Zandicular who finished in front of
him at York. Hannon (named after the trainer - could make a nice
juvenile hurdler) caught the eye last time out at Haydock over 1m3f and interestingly dropped back in distance. He could go well here off of his light weight and warrants each-way consideration.
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬>Takes Tutu [U.S.A.]
¦ e/w alternative² ¦:¬>Hannon [FR]
4:45 Anne Frances Stevens Memorial Maiden Stakes £6000 added, 2yo only, 5f, penalty £4153.50, 5 runners.

¦ are there any runners from "THEY'RE OFF" our feature which; each season, provides a list of horses to follow during the flat season? ¦:¬>Sir Edwin Landseer [U.S.A.]
¦ .t.h.e. r.o.o.k. ¦:¬>Another newcomer from THEY'RE OFF lines up in the 6th race on the card and I would be hoping that Sir Edwin Landseer (a grey son of the American sire Lit De Justice, who is related to winners in the USA) can take this prize at the 1st time of asking. Expresso Time (a half-brother to a couple of winners) and Revolving (who ran very green on her racecourse debut) are the main dangers.

¦ .t.h.e. r.o.o.k. ¦:¬> Houston Park, Shafeeq, Desert City, Montoya, Indian Solitaire, Duke of Earal and Keetchy are my possibles for the final race on the card. Brighton winner Shafeeq appeared to win with a bit more in hand than Houston Park managed to at Bath last time (Desert City meets him on better terms here and has a good chance of reversing the form). Shafeeq should be suited by the extra furlong here and is a hopeful selection. Indian Solitaire ran a nice race on his
reappearance behind Adiemus at Lingfield in February. He is not without a chance here despite carrying top weight and could be the best each-way option.
¦ 1è CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬>Shafeeq
¦ e/w alternative² ¦:¬>Indian Solitaire.
