Fuerta, Gargalhada Final, Dramatise, and Billy The Kid appeal most in
the opener on the card. Although his form figures look unappealing Al Nowhere has been
competing in better quality handicaps than his rivals and under top weight can be
assured to put in a bold bid. I'll be bolder though and go with
John-Paul Gallorini' s runner Billy the Kid, who came to my attention before
finishing fifth in the Prix Achille-Fould Haies at Auteuil last month. He has since come out and won a condition's event at Saint Cloud. His
future clearly is back over obstacles however he may be good enough to get into the frame... He'd be worth an eachway interest.

They set a fair standard however it is difficult to translate their effort against the home team. Persian Punch is sure to attempt to make most and will fight every yard of the way, if
necessary, however I'm going to take a view that these runner will go well but come up short. Polish Summer
interests me, he didn't disgrace himself in the Prix Foy Gray d'Albion Barriere (Group 2) behind Aquarelliste last time out, and if he stays this extra
distance of ground, could have too much toe for his rivals.... he gets the vote. I've always
believed that Pushkin had a big race in him. He is another who has run creditably over middle
distances and could reward eachway supporters here.

¦ .l.e. .h.o.n.g.r.e. .n.o.i.r. ¦:¬>- The Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp comes next and on paper whilst it is a big field, nothing stands out and it could be very competitive. Continent and Bahamian Pirate will attract
plenty of home money , however both will find this difficult to get runs. May Ball won the Prix Maurice de Gheest (Group 1) at Deauville before
finishing fifth to Invincible Spirit in the Stanley Leisure Sprint Cup (Group 1). She could go close as could course-and-distance winner Maybe Forever, Porlezza, two-year-olds Mister Links and Wunders Dream, Dananeyev, and Zipping. Maybe Forever, or May Ball appeal as possibly the likeliest winners, however I do think there is a chance that Oh Bej Oh Bej could nick a place at a nice price. She is one of the best sprinters in Italy and has won three of her four starts this term. She is clearly
superior to Slap Shot who she has beaten on their last two meetings. Interestingly
Slap Shot ran in the Prix de Saint-Georges (Group 3) here in May where she
finished only half a length behind Maybe Forever. This "evidence" gives Oh Bej Oh Bej a squeak and given luck in running
shouldn't be too far away

Any juvenile that can win the authority of her last two runs; [by 6lengths when winning the Prix Roland de Chambure (Listed) at Deauville in July; or the Prix du Calvados (Group 3) by 4lengths from Londonnetdotcom again at Deauville in August] clearly is above
average. She is the confident selection.

Hanabad, Great Pyramid and Le Vie Dei Colori make most appeal in the sixth. Intercontinental is
certain to attract support. This full-sister to Banks Hill, (winner of the Coronation Stakes and Breeders' Cup filly and Mares last year) has won
both of her starts this term, most recently when landing the Prix des Melezes over course and distance impressively. Whether she wins or not she is a filly to be borne in mind for next season, She is just preferred to Doncaster
winner Maghanim and Le Vie Dei Colori; a six-times winner who preserved his
unbeaten recorded when landing the Prix la Rochette Royal Thalasso Barriere (Group 3) over course and distance three weeks ago.
Having taking an interest in Italian racing this season I have watched Le Vie Dei Colori's progression this term .... nothing will give me
greater pleasure that to see him win... a place though is more realistic.

I had a look at the field in some detail this week and Sulamani, High Chaparral, Aquarelliste, Islington, Marienbard, Manhattan Cafe, Asian Heights, and Falbrav, came out as the
likeliest winners of the prize. Sulamani, and High Chaparral having won Derbys in England Ireland and France boast the best credentials. however there are doubters to their claims. High Chaparral
hasn't raced since th Irish Derby which is off-putting, whilst Sulamani's
"prep race", the Prix Niel descended into a farce. He has a pacemaker in
the field and he should have the early pace he requires... He must go close however I am very keen on
the claims of Manhattan Cafe. He comes from the top draw of their Middle distance runners as
he proved when winning the Tenno Sho (Spring) (Grade 1) in April as well as the Kikuka Sho (Japanese St Leger) (Grade 1) and Arima Kinen (Grade 1) at the end of last year. He is being underestimated slightly and he represents some value. I'll be hoping that he lands the prize for the
Japanese. He probably is an eachway bet, however I think Marienbard, and Falbrav also have strong place claims. You're hard to please if you
weren't impressed by "the elephant" when he landed the Grosser Preis von Baden (Group 1) at Baden-Baden at the beginning of September. If this
descends into a brawl he shouldn't be too far away. The same applies to Falbrav, who was carrying a significant amount of condition, when
finishing third to Aquarelliste (btn 1 ½lengths) in the Prix Foy Gray d'Albion Barriere (Group 2). If you
believe this is too open to call, I believe these two should give you a good run for your money at decent odds

stamina test. This is quite a soft Group 2 and I think the British challenge
is particularly strong and I'd expect big runs from Savannah
Bay, Swing Wing, and Windermere. Savannah Bay who won the Prix De
Lettuce over course and distance at the beginning of September will no
doubt be the local favourite, however I think Thompson Rouge and
Windermere will pose too strong a challenge. Windermere should relish
conditions and a repeat of his most recent form in the Autumn Cup at
Newbury could see him going close here. I'm going with Thompson Rouge
- a staying on fourth in the Derby Italiano [Gruppo I] in May, who
gives the impression that a step up in trip may suit ... here's
hoping.
