Analysis
& Selections by THE ROOK - Whether
it be "the race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs,
we will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the
fancied horses participating each day and their characteristics and
requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides you with a winner
or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a particular
may even convince you to back some of those horses which we feel are the
"ones to fear", or have decent eachway claims. whichever is
the case, we hope the information is of use to you.
SELECTIONS
- For each race, we have given you who, in our view, are
the likeliest winners; (¹
NØ.1 CHOICE ),
as well as any runners who could run well at eachway odds; (²E/W

Any runner from our features are shown before each race's analysis.

[ANY RUNNERS FROM OUR N.H. HORSES-TO-FOLLOW FEATURE?]:-:-->Saint Des Saints
[ETALONS by T.H.E. R.O.O.K]:-:--> Bebe A Bord, Piranha, Saint Des Saints, and Excusez Moi, make most appeal to me in the opener. They all have good form however Guilliame Macaire's runner Saint Des Saints, making his chasing debut is marginally preferred if he can translate to fences the form that saw him finish a close third in a £30,000 hurdle in June. I'm hoping he develops into one of the better young chasers , hence his inclusion in our horses to follow list
[¹NØ.1 CHOICE]:-:-->Saint Des Saints
[²E/W ALTERNATIVE]:-:--> Excusez Moi,
1.10 Prix Cambaceres (Grande Course De Haies Des 3ans) Course De Haies (3-year olds only) (Group I)

[ANY RUNNERS FROM OUR N.H. HORSES-TO-FOLLOW FEATURE?]:-:-->Loup Bleu (USA)
[ETALONS by T.H.E. R.O.O.K]:-:--> A fascinating clash of the juveniles here, with Multipass unbeaten over hurdles, and impressive winner of the Prix Georges de Talhouet-Roy (Hurdle) (Grade 2) here a couple of weeks ago, taking on Kotkita, winner of five of her six starts. This isn't a two horse affair though, as Azulejo (winner of his last two), Giant Jumper, and Buckhardt (second to Multipass on his hurdles bow) are all worthy of close inspection. Kotkita looks to be well of the fillies thus far, and should go well, but may have to give way to the colt here. A word for Loup Bleu. our runner from our horses to follow list. He's been placed in both of his starts thus far over hurdles, and is improving w9ith experience. I hope he can get into the frame
[¹NØ.1 CHOICE]:-:-->Multipass

[ETALONS by T.H.E. R.O.O.K]:-:-->Funny King, Joselle and Abondance, who has recent good form at the course make most appeal in the third. Joselle who won last time out at Fontainebleau, and had previous been placed in similar events is the marginal call
[¹NØ.1 CHOICE]:-:--> Joselle
[²E/W ALTERNATIVE]:-:--> Abondance,
2.15 Prix La Haye Jousselin Steeple-Chase (Group I)

[ANY RUNNERS FROM OUR N.H. HORSES-TO-FOLLOW FEATURE?]:-:-->Bipbap
[ETALONS by T.H.E. R.O.O.K]:-:--> El Paso III, who finished third ion the French Gold Cup, has been in sparkling form this term. This popular nine year old comes here having taking the Prix Heros XII (Chase) (Grade 3) beating Urga, Master Tracy, Bipbap, Ephemere Iv, and Extrien, who all reoppose here. You could possibly make a case for Master Tracy, and Bipbap, as both of these are capable of further improvement. The same comments apply to Innox, a five year old improving handicapper, who is a very interesting runner from Francois Doumen's yard, but I'll stick with El Paso III here
[¹NØ.1 CHOICE]:-:--> El Paso III
[²E/W ALTERNATIVE]:-:-->Bipbap

Any runners from our N.H. horses to follow feature? :<>:~~>Narkis
ETALONS by T.H.E. R.O.O.K. :<>:---> In our N.H. horses to follow feature, "ONE TO JUMP", we are trying to find note horses to follow not only in Great Britain and Ireland, but also this year we'll be having a few more entries than usual from France. Narkis is "our hope" in the second. He won the in May, a race which is usually won by a useful sort (Dibea Times won a Division last year). Hopefully he can build on that and withhold the likely strong challenges from Cobreces, and Wisborough, themselves winners at Auteuil, and Beraud, who finished second to Narkis in that race in May.
¹NØ.1 CHOICE :<>:~~>Narkis
²E/W ALTERNATIVE :<>:~~> Cobreces,

ETALONS by T.H.E. R.O.O.K. :<>:---> Guillame Macaire's improving six year old Heros Collonges, who has won his last two races at Dieppe and more recently at Auteuil in September, has a good chance on taking this sixteen runner handicap. Heros d'Or looks to be the main danger. François Doumen's Sketch Dantesque is a little inconsistent, but on his best form is capable of finishing in the money
¹NØ.1 CHOICE :<>:~~>Heros Collonges,
²E/W ALTERNATIVE :<>:~~> Sketch Dantesque

Any runners from our N.H. horses to follow feature? :<>:~~>Japhet
ETALONS by T.H.E. R.O.O.K. :<>:---> Japhet attempts to make it ten wins on the bounce in the Prix Maurice Gillois Grand Steeple-Chase,( The four year old champion Chase). This progressive son of Perrault has progressed from winning a bumper to winning all his starts over hurdles last term. This season, he has won all his starts over fences at Auteuil including the Prix Edmond Barrachin (Chase) (Grade 3) over 2m4f, where amongst his victim was Sun Storm, who has won a Graded event since. He reopposes here, and should prove more troublesome, as he will be fitter this time around. He, Cerilly, Line As, Latran , Le Cid, and Line As will test this horse today, and if Japhet comes through this test against more experience rivals, there is every chance that Guilliame Macaire will aim Japhet at our Festival in March... He has always looked very useful, and I'll take him to pass this test with flying colours, and is one to bear in mind for the Sun Alliance Chase.

ETALONS by T.H.E. R.O.O.K. :<>:---> The second Group race on the card is far more open, with Kimbi, Sunny Flight, Fou Du Roy V, Royal Bric, Magnus all in Good heart at present. The progressive Magnus is just preferred, having won his last two starts including the Prix Carmarthen (Group 3) at Auteuil in September. He faces though a big threat from Germany in the shape of Scaligero, who in his youth had decent form on the flat in Germany, but have matured/improved with age and has really taken to hurdles since returning from injury. He is unbeaten since that return including winning the Grand Prix Di Merano at Merano in September. He is a real out and out stayer, and could stretch his French foes if emphasis is placed here on stamina
¹NØ.1 CHOICE :<>:~~> Magnus

ETALONS by T.H.E. R.O.O.K. :<>:---> Idole Des Fontaine has disapointed on his last two starts at Longchamp on the flat and here in October, but may have needed these, and is worth another chance here. Alpha Style is the eachway alternative
