Analysis & Selections by

juge à l`arrivée

Whether it be "the race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs, we will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the fancied horses participating each day and their characteristics and requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides you with a winner or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a particular may even convince you to back some of those horses which we feel are the "ones to fear", or have decent eachway claims. whichever is the case, we hope the information is of use to you.

SELECTIONS - For each race, we have given you who, in our view, are the likeliest winners; (1er. _ LE GAGNANT?), as well as any runners who could run well at eachway odds; (E/W ALTERNATIVE) . Any runner from our features are shown before each race's analysis.

AUTEUIL
Sunday, November 9.
Terrain : Collant _ [Pénétromètre : 4.3].

¦¨¨¨"Premier¨Course"¨¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- 13.45 Prix Bournosienne Haies - [Listed Race] - Femelles - 3 ans. 7 partants ...[€ 95,000 3600 Mt.]
|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯ªT¯¯|¯¯THE¯¯|¯POST¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|
¦¨¨"jugé¨à¨l´arrivée"¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Seven fillies are due to line up in the opening listed race. Of these Kitka, Full Of Birds, Orcantara and Psychée Du Berlais appear to be the likeliest winners. Kitka; a half-sister to Kokitka, [who runs later on in the day] will probably go off as favorite. She was never competitive behind Maia Aria on her debut in the Prix Finot - Pouliches Haies here in September finishing a well beaten fourth, however she clearly improved for that run as she won the Prix De Nantes Haies over course and distance three weeks ago. Orcantara was second that day, and had previously finished in front of her in the Prix Finot, which suggests they may be nothing to choose between them here. However I got the impression that Kitka will improve as she gains experience and should come out a more decisive winner this time around. Full Of Birds who was third in the Prix De Nantes Haies, has since come out and won the Prix Magne Haies here over 3000metres at the end of last month. She also gives the impression that she is improving with experience and may follow the selection home.
¦¨¨1er¨PLACÉ?¨¬¨LE GAGNANT?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Kitka
¦¨¨2e¨placé ?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Full of Birds
¦¨¨3e¨placé ?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Orcantara

¦¨¨¨"Deuxième¨Course"¨¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- 14.15 Prix Kerlor Steeple-CH´ - A réclamer - 3 ans. 10 partants ...[€ 20,000 3500 Mt.]
|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯ªT¯¯|¯¯THE¯¯|¯POST¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|
¦¨¨"jugé¨à¨l´arrivée"¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Ten runners are due to line up for the claimer which is the second race on the card. Of these; Bacilly, Melba Des Aigles, Villezovitch, Sybellius d´Artaix and Ziggy Stardost make the most appeal. Bacilly, [who won a claiming hurdle here in April], may go off favourite here, having been the most consistent of these, finishing second in three of his last four starts, however he is closely matched with Melba Des Aigles and Sybellius d´Artaix, on the form shown in the Prix Magicienne Steeple-CH´ over course and distance three weeks ago. On that occasion Melba Des Aigles came out on top by ½length from Bacilly, with Sybellius d´Artaix, another 4lengths back in third, however they meet on slightly different terms here which give Sybellius d´Artaix, a chance of reversing the form, however he is still a maiden after nine attempts and I'd prefer to take a chance on the Prix Magicienne form being confirmed.
¦¨¨1er¨PLACÉ?¨¬¨LE GAGNANT?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Melba Des Aigles
¦¨¨2e¨placé ?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Sybellius d´Artaix,
¦¨¨3e¨placé ?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Villezovitch

¦¨¨¨"Troisième¨Course"¨¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- 14.45 Prix R.T.L. (Prix François de Ganay) Haies - Handicap - 5 ans et au-dessus. - 19 partants. ...[€ 79,200 4100 Mt.]
|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯ªT¯¯|¯¯THE¯¯|¯POST¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|
¦¨¨"jugé¨à¨l´arrivée"¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- A typically open renewal of the Prix R.T.L. Haies comes next. It is a very open affair and cases can be made for several of these; Ipso Vallis, Mandrin Des Aigles, Fou Du Roy, Philastre , Hurdle, Tropical De Cuta, Klassic, Jingle Rose, Ballinasloe and Curico, making the greatest appeal. Nothing really stands out, however Royal Standard, third in the Prix De Beaune Haies (Handicap) at Enghien-Soisy two weeks ago, and Robert Collet 's Ballinasloe, third in the Prix Roger Soulange-Bodin Haies (Handicap), three weeks ago should give you good runs for your money... Ballinasloe is just preferred.

12 partants ...[€ 42,000 4100 Mt.]
|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯ªT¯¯|¯¯THE¯¯|¯POST¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|
¦¨¨"jugé¨à¨l´arrivée"¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- The 103ème Prix de France comes next and some British interest with David Dunsdon and Polly Gundry amongst the pilots due to take part. I like the claims of Saint Par, [trained last season by Paul Nicholls], Royal Beaufort, Kifill, Jemthou, Dear De Beaufai, Jumièges and Insolent De Cotte. David Dunsdon 's mount Dear De Beaufai comes here in good heart having finishing 5lengths behind Hidalgo Royal in the Prix Duc d´Alburquerque (Steeple-CH´) (Gentleman Amateurs), here three weeks ago and should go close, however Royal Beaufort and Kifill, [the mount of Polly Gundry] make more appeal. Royal Beaufort comes here on the back of an excellent second in the Prix Decazes (Steeple-CH´) behind Impact II, [one of our horses to follow] two weeks ago and will be hard to beat however Polly Gundry and Guilliame Macaire have forged an impressive alliance and they have rattled up an impressive ratio of wins- to-rides on the provincial circuit. He has been looking to give her a ride at Auteuil for a while now, so in choosing Kifill, [the winner of 22 races over obstacles over the last six season] he must feel that this son of Fill My Hopes has a good chance of success here. He had his first run of the year in the Prix 36 Ponts (Steeple-CH´) at Toulouse six days ago and was a good second to Oway, [btn 3 lengths]. That should have put him right here, and as long as he doesn´t bounce, could go close here... he gets the nod.
¦¨¨1er¨PLACÉ?¨¬¨LE GAGNANT?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Kifill
¦¨¨2e¨placé ?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Royal Beaufort
¦¨¨3e¨placé ?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Dear De Beaufai

¦¨¨¨"Cinquième¨Course"¨¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- 15.45 Prix Renaud du Vivier. Grande Course de Haies des 4 Ans - Haies - [Groupe I] - 4ans. 10 partants ...[€ 197,400 4100 Mt.]
|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯ªT¯¯|¯¯THE¯¯|¯POST¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|
¦¨¨¨"One¨to¨Jump"¨¨¨¨¦ ¬: Are there any horses from "ONE TO JUMP 2003/4" - Our feature which; each season, provides a list of horses to follow during the current national hunt season? ¦¨¨¨»-- Ennemï d´Etat
¦¨¨"jugé¨à¨l´arrivée"¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- The Grande Course de Haies des 4 Ans is the fifth race on the card, and has attracted a field of ten runners. The likely favourite is the Marc Rolland trained Ennemï d´Etat, who has surpassed all of my expectations since we placed  him in the foreign section of our One To Jump feature. This son of Passing Sale was a fair handicapper on the flat, however is looking to be far better over obstacles. He has improved with each race at this venue, winning the Prix Achille-Fould Haies (Listed Race), on his debut in September, before giving Liberia 13lbs and a sound beating in the Prix Vertige Haies at the beginning of last month. Ennemï d´Etat was allowed to take his chance in the Prix Pierre de Lassus Haies (Grade 3) here three weeks ago against some of the best of last season's juveniles, and despite some careful hurdling, quickened impressively on the run-in to beat Nickname by ½length, with Katoune, [who reopposes] a further two lengths back in third. Nickname, [last season's leading juvenile] was carrying 9lbs more that day and meets him on level terms here and arguably should be fancied to reverse placings, however I really do like Ennemï d´Etat and do believe he can improve enough to confirm placings... though his lack of experience does give some cause for concern.
¦¨¨1er¨PLACÉ?¨¬¨LE GAGNANT?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Ennemï d´Etat
¦¨¨2e¨placé ?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Nickname
¦¨¨3e¨placé ?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Katoune

¦¨¨¨"Sixième¨Course"¨¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- 16.15 Prix de La Haye Jousselyn Steeple-CH´ - [Groupe I] - 5 ans et plus. 13 partants ...[€ 258,500 5500 Mt.]
|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯ªT¯¯|¯¯THE¯¯|¯POST¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|
¦¨¨"jugé¨à¨l´arrivée"¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Batman Senora give Britain an interest in the Prix La Haye Jousselyn, the French equivalent of the King George VI Chase. Last season's fourth comes up against a particularly strong home defence, headed by last year's winner Sunny Flight, Kotkita, and Kotkijet. 2001 Gras Savoye Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris winner Kotkijet bid to extend his winning run of nine successes here and is unbeatable since his return from injury -  landing the Prix Petit Fontaine (Steeple-CH´), by 8 lengths from Kotkita on his return in June '03, before sauntering around Auteuil on the bridle, when winning the Prix Rigoletto Steeple-CH´ (Listed) by 6 lengths from Belle De Juilley a month later. He was expectedly to land the Prix Héros XII Steeple-CH´ (Grade 3) with ease last time out, however despite jumping magnificently, He was made to pull out all the stops, to withhold the late challenges of Kotkita and Sun Storm, by 1½ lengths and 3 lengths respectively. On the face of it, it looked a substandard effort, however is worth noting that when he won the Prix Petit Fontaine in June, he received 6lbs from Kotkita, whereas in the Prix Héros XII, He gave her 9lbs. Its unlikely that he would have been fully wound up for these efforts and if he is on song here will take a lot of beating... I couldn´t oppose him.
¦¨¨1er¨PLACÉ?¨¬¨LE GAGNANT?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Kotkijet
¦¨¨2e¨placé ?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Kokitka
¦¨¨3e¨placé ?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Sunny Flight

¦¨¨¨"Septième¨Course"¨¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- 16.45 Prix Triquerville Steeple-CH´ - [Listed Race] - 4 ans. 10 partants. ...[€ 65,000 4100 Mt.]
|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯ªT¯¯|¯¯THE¯¯|¯POST¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|
¦¨¨"jugé¨à¨l´arrivée"¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Ten horses are due to line up for this listed chase... of these Lulumar, Golden Flight, Lucky Fast, Sleeping Jack, Crystolo and L´Orée d´Estruval make the greatest appeal. Golden Flight, representing the Guilliame Macaire / Benoit Gicquel combination has a favourite´s chance. He has only had two runs over the larger obstacles, winning the Prix Du Simplon Steeple-CH´ here over 3500 metres at the second attempt a few weeks ago. He is preferred to Sleeping Jack, [ who has better form, however hasn´t completed on his last three visits], and L´Orée d´Estruval.
¦¨¨1er¨PLACÉ?¨¬¨LE GAGNANT?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Golden Flight,
¦¨¨2e¨placé ?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Sleeping Jack,
¦¨¨3e¨placé ?¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- L´Orée d´Estruval

¦¨¨¨"Huitième¨Course"¨¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- 17.15 Prix Falzarego Haies - 3 ans. 20 partants. ...[€ 197,400 4100 Mt.]
¦¨¨¨»--Mill Sabords
¦¨¨"jugé¨à¨l´arrivée"¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Twenty, [relatively inexperienced] juveniles take their chance in the last. Of these; Meryl, Tarque, Mill Sabords, Rosemauve, Mossman, Escompteur, Sworovski and Gwen March would appear to have the strongest claims. This is a race worth noting for the future as there is a possibility that Meryl, Tarque and Mill Sabords may race in this country this winter. Francois Doumen 's Tarque, [A son of Revoque], has the best public form, having finished second to Key West Road in the Prix De Grenoble Haies over course and distance three weeks ago. That is fair form and sets a fair standard and he will be hard to beat, however Guilliame Macaire 's pair Meryl and Mill Sabords are larger, more stoutly-bred individuals, who are better long-term prospects, especially when they are put over fences. Meryl, [who runs here instead of a maiden race at Warwick earlier in the week], has had one run over hurdles here in the Prix Pride of Kildare Haies, over 3000metres, finishing 11lengths behind the winner Exotic Dancer. He will come on for that run and will go not be too far away, however the better prospect, [in my view] is Mill Sabords. He won a non-thoroughbred bumper over 2400 metres at Nantes at the beginning of October, before putting in a solid clear round in the Prix Emilus Haies over 3000 metres two weeks ago. Mill Sabords should have come on for the run and hopefully will have progressed enough to land this prize.

Poids ...(2100 m 150000 Euro)
"With the advent of coverage of French racing on Attheraces, this season's renewal of the Prix Lupin arguably takes on even more significance as in Dalakhani, Super Celebré, New South Wales, Alberto Giacomettì and Ballestrinì we have five horses who could well figure significantly in either the English or French versions of the Derby. It also can give a good indicator as to which nation has the strongest form lines. I suspect there are many 'home punters' who could well be wading in here on either Ballestrinì, Alberto Giacomettì or even New South Wales, all of whom have been campaigned at Group level at 2 years of age in Ireland. In the case of Alberto Giacomettì and Ballestrinì, we know how good their form was from last term and have been given evidence of their well-being. After these two met three weeks ago at Leopardstown, where Ballestrinì was given the more judicious ride to make all from Alberto Giacomettì and Alamshar who probably were too interested in each other and as a result gave each other too much to do. There were five and a half lengths between these two on that occasion, and you would have thought that with 6lbs less on his back today, Alberto Giacomettì should reverse places, however the fact that Kieran Fallon has been booked to rider Ballestrinì here suggests to me that connections may well believe that he can repeat the dose, in which case it may pay to look elsewhere for victory. I like what I saw of New South Wales last term and I'll be fascinated to see how he fares here with the future in mind, however this should be fought out (in my view) between Dalakhani and Super Celebré. Dalakhani is unbeaten and has looked imperious so far in four outings. He beat Jipapibaquigrafo readily here last month and should be ready for this test, however it would be unwise to underestimate Super Celebré who has been brought on far more slowly by Eric Lellouche. He inflicted just as easy a victory on Jipapibaquigrafo here at the beginning of April and will give Dalakhani plenty to think about here. I expect this to be close, however I will stick with the likely favourite".

15:50 GAINSBOROUGH POULE D`ESSAI DES POULAINS [FRENCH 2000 GUINEAS] Pour poulains entiers de 3 ans. Poids : 58 k. Vers ...(1600 m 350000 Euro)
"France's first classic of the season has attracted a select field of ten and in the absence of Italian ace Le Vie Dei Colorì (who bar injury, would in my view have had a big say here], Clodovil, Bourbonnais, France, Catcher In The Rye, Desert Destiny, Elusive City and Sign Of The Wolf appear on paper to be the main protagonists. I do like Clodovil here, who did very little wrong when winning the Prix de Fontainebleau (gr. 3) here two week ago... I noted that the form of that race has been somewhat rubbished by certain UK pundits, because of Tomahawk's disappointing run in our Guineas, however Summer Diplomacy, who came second that day ahs come out and won since and this horse could do no more than remain unbeaten. He is preferred to Sign Of The Wolf, who is unbeaten and posted a good effort when beating Krataios [who reopposes] by a length, Bourbonnais, [who should come on from his first run in Dubai] and Catcher In The Rye, [unexposed and 3ll thought of apparently by connections]"

Grande Haies d`Auteuil Haies - The French Champion Hurdle {gr.1}
"Martin Pipe not only has got an outstanding chance of lifting the Prix RTL (Prix Hardatit) Haies, with Puntal, but he also has an even better chance of landing the Grande Haies d`Auteuil, Galant Moss, completely transformed since returning to race in France. He was unlucky not to land the Prix Jean Granel (Haies) last time here over 4100m 3½ weeks ago, when he made a bad mistake at the last, when still travelling well, allowing Spanish Wells to get past him on the run-in. Cristophe Pieux continues his association with Galant Moss, and having proven his ability to stay this trip (rarely run over in France) he has definite place claims. The race should be set up for him by Vic Toto, who could go well if he stays this extended trip and Kimbi, (difficult to catch right, but decent on his day as he proved when landing the in Prix Leon Rambaud (Haies) {gr. 2} earlier this year, beating Vic Toto). Galant Moss' main threat though is undoubtedly Laveron, vastly improved since returning to France. This ex German Group winner easily landed his maiden here spread eagling a field in the Prix Hubert de Navailles (Haies) at the beginning of April. He then stepped up on this when landing the Grande Haies de Printemps (Haies) (Handicap) here at the end of April. On that occasion, Laveron was handy throughout and quickened impressively when asked by Thierry Doumen between the last two obstacles. On his last start, he stalked Vic Toto before quickening to land the Gras Savoye Hipcover - Prix La Barka Haies {gr.2} here over 4300m. Despite the absence of Barracouda, Magnus and Le Sauvignon, this isn't too bad a renewal, ironically dominated by two horses who haven't shown anywhere near their true ability when they raced in this country. I would love to see Galant Moss win this, however Laveron has looked top class of late and I have to stay loyal to our "Horse to Follow".
Laveron quickened up close home to land the prize.

Galahan; who was third on his most recent start here two weeks ago, Divine Gesture, (who bettered that effort when finishing second on the same card), Legend of Anais, who finished third on his second start over hurdles at Enghien, but who has been well beaten since, and Anissia a promising sixth on her most recent attempt over obstacles, make most appeal in this claimer ...
