opens the card. Guilliame Macaire runs two here, and in Aubane, [a three times winner] and Bridge Of Stars, [a winner already over
hurdles and fences] he appears to have a strong hand. Aubane, [a daughter of Cadoudal], arguably has the better form, as her hurdles successes appear to be stronger formlines, before she won on her
steeplechase debut in the Prix Le Pin du Haras over the course and distance, two weeks ago. However Bridge of Stars is the scopier of the two and maybe the better
long-term prospect. He's done nothing wrong so far and a win at Toulouse over 3500m will have done his
confidence the world of good for this first attempt around Auteuil. I do actually prefer him of the two and will suggest he come
out on top. Were the Macaire pair to fail to complete; Cyberko, [interesting if he were to recapture the
form shown when coming second in the Prix Finot Haies in September], and Star of Glory, [a winner already of two
steeplechases at Economy and Beaupréau] could be the ones to capitalise

¦¨¨"juge¨à¨l`arrivée"¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Some of the season's leading juvenile hurdlers line up in the first Group one race of the
meeting. Of the eleven horses declared, cases can be made for several of these, however , Positive Thinking, Maia Eria,
Mésange Royalé, Il Manifico, Le Broadway, Kauto Star and Turlyr appear to have the strongest credentials. The one to beat here is Maia Eria, who is the
only unbeaten horse in the field, having won the Prix Finot - Pouliches on her debut here in September, before landing the Group two Prix Georges de Talhouët-Roy here three weeks ago. On both occasions Maia Eria went off like a
scalded cat and set a ferocious pace setting up a big lead, which she managed to sustain throughout. In the Prix Georges de Talhouët-Roy, both Positive Thinking and Kauto Star were beginning to close when
falling independently three from home. That said she didn't stop that day and may
have been the best part of 30lengths clear at the time, [although her rivals did narrow that to about
4 lengths at the last before Maia Eria stayed on again near the line]. I do wonder whether she is simply being given too much rope by her
opponents, who decline to go the early pace with her and I'd be interested to see whether Positive Thinking and Kauto Star can get close if they stand up this time around. Their hurdles form before that race stands up to close inspection and I can see them going close if near their best but I think they may both fail to
reel her in.

Niçoise, Abioko, Midi, Perle De Puce, Fils à Papa, Lutin Vallis, The Mirage and Dubliner, appear to have the
strong credentials. La Niçoise, the mount of Cristophe Pieux makes a lot of appeal having won twice over the course in her last three starts. She ran a solid race last time when fourth in the 80,000 euro Prix De Pracomtal Haies
[H`cap.], here two weeks ago and should go close. I'll go with Josef Taïeb 's runner Midi, who might have won the race, if he
hadn't made a bad mistake at the last. He isn`t an easy ride, [he'll hang badly up this wide straight if allowed by his pilot], however he showed when winning the Prix Pharaon Haies in May,
[subsequently disqualified] and the Prix Tournay Haies in September, that he has a touch of class and if he will take a lot of beating if he can be held together. A word about our One to Jump featured runners Fils à Papa and The Mirage, who both have eachway claims on their best form. I'm concerned about the ground for both of them and I'd be encouraged if they managed a place in the frame, with
conditions against them.

the card, and all eyes will be on Jacques Ricou and Prince Des Ifs as they bid to land their
eighth race in succession. I've like this horse from day one and I stated in last seasons One to Jump
feature that he had the frame of a steeplechaser and would progress as he raced/matured. He
hasn`t stopped improving since winning the Prix De Hillern Steeple-CH` at Machecoul in February and has been
particularly impressive in his last two starts here; in the Prix Barrachin
Steeple-CH` (gr.3) and Prix Orcada Steeple-CH` (gr.3) beating most of his main rivals with a bit in hand. Its hard to see him being beaten, however if he was, Ladykish who has caught the eye behind Prince Des Ifs on her last two starts, and
Royaléety; who is slowly coming to hand over fences, who arguably boasts the best hurdles of these. He won last time at
Enghien-Soisy, however he well beaten by the selection in the Prix Orcada Steeple-CH` and needs to improve.

Camarthen Haies here 3 weeks ago. On that occasion, Nom d`Une Pipe (a useful
juvenile hurdler three seasons ago whose career had fallen away due to an injury which eventually kept him off the course for 18 months) and last season's best hurdler (excluding Barracuda) Karly Flight (who was expected to come on for her first run of the season) fought out the finish with Nom
D`Une Pipe surprisingly withholding her challenge after the last to win convincingly by a length. That was the best form shown by Nom
D`Une Pipe for a few seasons and he will be hard to beat if in the same frame of mind. As a member of the 'One To Jump 2004' club, he has already exceeded my expectations and I'll be hoping for more of the same here.

Pieux' s mount Zonza who is still a maiden but has run well in his last two starts, finishing second on both
occasions, the most recent being when he came second in the Prix Paul's Cray Haies (Handicap) over 3000 metres here at the beginning of October. He is going the right way and is marginally preferred to Baby Du Rheu and Art Charentais.

"With the advent of coverage of French racing on Attheraces, this season's renewal of the Prix Lupin arguably takes on even more significance as in Dalakhani, Super
Celebré, New South Wales, Alberto Giacomettì and Ballestrinì we have five horses who could well figure significantly in either the English or French versions of the Derby. It also can give a good indicator as to which nation has the strongest form lines. I suspect there are many 'home punters' who could well be wading in here on either
Ballestrinì, Alberto Giacomettì or even New South Wales, all of whom have been campaigned at Group level at 2 years of age in Ireland. In the case of Alberto
Giacomettì and Ballestrinì, we know how good their form was from last term and have been given evidence of their well-being. After these two met three weeks ago at Leopardstown, where
Ballestrinì was given the more judicious ride to make all from Alberto
Giacomettì and Alamshar who probably were too interested in each other and as a result gave each other too much to do. There were five and a half lengths between these two on that occasion, and you would have thought that with 6lbs less on his back today, Alberto
Giacomettì should reverse places, however the fact that Kieran Fallon has been booked to rider
Ballestrinì here suggests to me that connections may well believe that he can repeat the dose, in which case it may pay to look elsewhere for victory. I like what I saw of New South Wales last term and I'll be fascinated to see how he fares here with the future in mind, however this should be fought out (in my view) between Dalakhani and Super
Celebré. Dalakhani is unbeaten and has looked imperious so far in four outings. He beat Jipapibaquigrafo readily here last month and should be ready for this test, however it would be unwise to underestimate Super
Celebré who has been brought on far more slowly by Eric Lellouche. He inflicted just as easy a victory on Jipapibaquigrafo here at the beginning of April and will give Dalakhani plenty to think about here. I expect this to be close, however I will stick with the likely favourite".

"France's first classic of the season has attracted a select field of ten and in the absence of Italian ace Le Vie Dei
Colorì (who bar injury, would in my view have had a big say here], Clodovil, Bourbonnais, France, Catcher In The Rye, Desert Destiny, Elusive City and Sign Of The Wolf appear on paper to be the main protagonists. I do like Clodovil here, who did very little wrong when winning the Prix de Fontainebleau
(gr. 3) here two week ago... I noted that the form of that race has been somewhat
rubbished by certain UK pundits, because of Tomahawk's disappointing run in our Guineas, however Summer Diplomacy, who came second that day ahs come out and won since and this horse could do no more than remain unbeaten. He is preferred to Sign Of The Wolf, who is unbeaten and posted a good effort when beating Krataios [who reopposes] by a length, Bourbonnais, [who should come on from his first run in Dubai] and Catcher In The Rye, [unexposed and 3ll thought of apparently by connections]"

Haies - The French Champion Hurdle {gr.1}
"Martin Pipe not only has got an outstanding chance of lifting the Prix RTL (Prix Hardatit) Haies, with Puntal, but he also has an even better chance of landing the Grande Haies
d`Auteuil, Galant Moss, completely transformed since returning to race in France. He was unlucky not to land the Prix Jean Granel (Haies) last time here over 4100m
3½ weeks ago, when he made a bad mistake at the last, when still travelling well, allowing Spanish Wells to get past him on the run-in. Cristophe Pieux continues his association with Galant Moss, and having proven his ability to stay this trip (rarely run over in
France) he has definite place claims. The race should be set up for him by Vic Toto, who could go well if he stays this extended trip and Kimbi, (difficult to catch right, but decent on his day as he proved when landing the in Prix Leon Rambaud (Haies) {gr. 2} earlier this year, beating Vic Toto). Galant Moss' main threat though is undoubtedly Laveron, vastly improved since returning to France. This ex German Group winner easily landed his maiden here spread eagling a field in the Prix Hubert de Navailles (Haies) at the beginning of April. He then stepped up on this when landing the Grande
Haies de Printemps (Haies) (Handicap) here at the end of April. On that occasion, Laveron was handy throughout and quickened impressively when asked by Thierry Doumen between the last two obstacles. On his last start, he stalked Vic Toto before quickening to land the Gras Savoye Hipcover - Prix La Barka Haies {gr.2} here over 4300m. Despite the absence of Barracouda, Magnus and Le Sauvignon, this isn't too bad a renewal, ironically dominated by two horses who haven't shown anywhere near their true ability when they raced in this country. I would love to see Galant Moss win this, however Laveron has looked top class of late and I have to stay loyal to our "Horse to Follow".
