Analysis & Selections by t.h.e.
r.o.o.k. - Whether it be "the
race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs, we will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the fancied horses participating each day and their characteristics and requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides you with a winner or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a particular may even convince you to back some of those horses which we feel are the "ones to fear", or have decent eachway claims. whichever is the case, we hope the information is of use to you.
SELECTIONS - For each race, we have given you who, in our view, are the likeliest winners; [¹ NØ.1 CHOICE], as well as any runners who could run well at eachway odds; [²E/W

¦ .a.n. .r.ò.c.a.s. ¦:¬>Palanzo, Lincoln Dancer, Wahj, Labrett, Taranaki and Millenium Force are my idea of the likeliest winners of the opening handicap on this card. Labrett, who pleased onlookers on his reappearance at Doncaster is likely to off favourite and is sure to give a good account of himself (especially as he is so well handicapped on his best form). I just prefer Lincoln Dancer : 2nd in the Victoria Cup at Ascot last week and Palanzo: 2nd to Indian Spark in a Thirsk conditions event. Both are unproved over this trip but their undoubted class will ensure they come to the fore. Lincoln Dancer is preferred. Millenium Force who stayed on to finish 6th in the Victoria Cup is the best each-way option.

¦ .a.n. .r.ò.c.a.s. ¦:¬>Barzah, Birdie, Mingora and Mubkera look the best of those lining up in this rather confusing Oaks trial. I'm not quite sure how to interpret her performances. Barzah could do no more than win as easily as she did at Pontefract on her only start over 6f . She is bred to appreciate further and could be anything. Birdie won a Newcastle maiden over a mile in soft ground in the manner of a horse guaranteed to stay the trip here today. Mubkera has stamina flowing through her veins and having won over a mile as a
juvenile, shouldn't be inconvenienced by this step-up in trip. Whilst Mingora's form with Millenium Dragon and Century City on her only start stands up well to the closest inspection. I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if Mubkera landed this, however, she may be better after this initial run. Mingora could well be the chief
beneficiary.

¦ .a.n. .r.ò.c.a.s. ¦:¬>Tempting Fate, Up Market, Palace Affair and
Roundtree appear to be the likeliest winners of the 3rd. Very difficult to get away from Tempting Fate here. She boasts decent form in Group 1 events last year. Appears to be well ahead on the book in
comparism to opposition who all would need to improve to match her form shown last term. The only "positive" can be given to
Up Market who did well to win her maiden start at Newbury. She will come on for the experience and is likeliest to run the selection close here.
¦ 1é CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬>Tempting Fate,
¦ e/w alternative² ¦:¬>Marika (I'd be surprised if she were good enough to win, however she showed enough last year in handicap company to warrant consideration...she also hails from a stable in form.)
3:40 attheraces Sky Channel 418 Derby Trial Stakes (Group 3)
(Colts & Geldings )£60000 added, 3yo only colts and geldings, 1m 3f 106yds, penalty £34800, 6 runners.

¦ .a.n. .r.ò.c.a.s. ¦:¬>Another trappy Derby trial which at first glance doesn't give the impression of having the eventual winner lurking amongst it's midst. Bandari, who won 3 from 4 starts last term hails from the in-form Mark Johnston stable. It is difficult to be negative about him especially if you saw him destroy a field at Pontefract by 9 lengths last season. Assuming he is ready for this assignment, he sets a fair standard for his rivals to attempt to match...is he beatable?...er...yes. He is unproven at this trip - he lacks recent match fitness and it's interesting that connections have pointed out how much slower he has been to come to hand. Supporters of Wahchi (an attractive chestnut colt who beat all bar Playapart at Doncaster in the
Feilden Stakes at Newmarket on his reappearance). First Charter who stayed in strongly to take a 10-furlong maiden at Leicester on his only start this season and Mamool (Godolphin's representative who showed respectable form at 2-years-old last season) all fancy their chances of snatching the prize from Bandari...Unfortunately for them, Bandari appears to possess a little more class than them. Despite his negatives (please bear this in mind when deciding your stake) I am confident he can hold his own in better company and therefore, I'd stick with him.

¦ .a.n. .r.ò.c.a.s. ¦:¬>Online Investor, Fire Up The Band, Vanderlin, Flur Na H Alba, Pic Up Sticks, Nemo Fugar and Funfair Wane all have strong claims in a particularly strong sprint handicap. Amongst these are horses making significant improvement in the handicap (Fire Up The Band, Online Investor and Vanderlin) and it wouldn't surprise me if one of these landed the spoils. My preference is Online Investor who ran well after a tardy start in the Field Marshall stakes at Haydock. He is preferred to Vanderlin and top weight Funfair Wane who is the each way alternative.
¦ 1é CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬>Online Investor

¦ .a.n. .r.ò.c.a.s. ¦:¬>This appears to be a straight fight between Funfair (who ran well on his debut at Sandown in April) and Rasid (who finished behind Final Charter (who runs in the Derby Trial) at Leicester on his reappearance. There was strong market confidence behind Funfair and assuming he continues to conquer his fear of starting stalls (which is why he was making his debut at Sandown) he may possess a little too much class for his rivals here. Keep an eye on market exchanges on Tasneef and
Kahms-Alhawas, both of whom hail from trainers with good records in this type of event. As things stand at present, the latter would be the each-way option.
¦ 1é CHOICE ¹ ¦:¬>Funfair
¦ e/w alternative² ¦:¬>Kahms-Alhawas

¦ .a.n. .r.ò.c.a.s. ¦:¬>I have no strong view on the finale as on paper, it appears to be quite a poor event which will probably be won by the least
likeliest participant. For what it's worth, the booking of Emily Jones on front runner Goodenough Mover catches the eye especially as the course and distance should suit. At the right price he could be worth and each-way bet in a race which is probably best left well alone.
