Analysis & Selections by
.t.h.e. .r.o.o.k.
Whether it be "the race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs, we will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the fancied horses participating each day and their characteristics and requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides you with a winner or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a particular may even convince you to back some of those horses which we feel are the "ones to fear", or have decent eachway claims. whichever is the case, we hope the information is of use to you.
SELECTIONS - For each race, we have given you who, in our view, are the likeliest winners;
(1er _ THE WINNER?), as well as any runners who could run well at eachway odds;
(E/W
ALTERNATIVE) . Any runner from our features are shown before each race's analysis.

¦ .t.h.e. .r.o.o.k. ¦:¬>- Supreme Prince, Maybe The Business, Yorkshire, Native Sparkle, and Priests Bridge are the horses to
concentrate on in the opener on the card. The early pace should be strong as Yorkshire and Priests Bridge will
probably seek to dominate PRIESTS BRIDGE has yet to race over obstacles in
this country, however this former point to point winner should be able to adept to hurdles and is likely to
worry Yorkshire into doubting himself ... I expect her to win the battle for the lead. She could be hard to beat .. very hard to beat, however MAYBE THE BUSINESS (not seen on the racecourse since
beating Laouen at Ayr in April), and SUPREME PRINCE, (an easy winner on his hurdles bow over course and distance), may prove to be too strong for her. If you saw Supreme Prince stroll home here last month, you'll know how
promising a prospect he is here and he is taken to land this prestigious prize.

¦ (ONE TO JUMP 2003) - are there any horses from "one to jump 2003" our feature which; each season, provides a list of horses to follow during the national hunt season? ¦: ¬>- Le Roi Miguel (FR)
¦ .t.h.e. .r.o.o.k. ¦:¬>- A fascinating little heat, where Le Roi Miguel, One Knight, Gentle Rivage, and Hand Inn Hand, all can be given chances.
They're all lovely scopey chasing types, who should get into the winner's enclosure at
some stage this term, however the one (in my view) with the greatest potential is LE ROI MIGUEL,
who showed decent for in france before joining Paul Nicholl's yard. He hasn't
raced since chasing home the ill-fated Miros at Warwick in January, however with his stable is great form, this four year old will be very hard to beat.

¦ .t.h.e. .r.o.o.k. ¦:¬>- CARLOVENT; (4th to It Takes Time at Sandown in
April), RAVENSWOOD; (who ran up a hatrick of wins at the end of last season, most
recently hen winning over 2m 6f at Ayr in April), ENTERTAINER; (not seen out over hurdles since beating Arlas by 5lengths at Worcester in June 2001). FARINEL; (in good form in Ireland over hurdles last
winter, though he ran poorly when pulling up at Punchestown in April), DUBAI SEVEN STARS ; (a never nearer, 9th behind Like-A-Butterfly in the Supreme Novice hurdle on her last start over hurdles, however has been in good form on
the flat and ran a blinder in the Tote Cesarewitch Handicap, finishing only 4lengths behind
the winner) and CREON; (a winner over fences last time out at Perth, however is far
happier over the smaller obstacles) all have claims in a open looking handicap which comes next. If Dubai Seven Stars can translate her flat form to jumps she will be hard to beat off of only 10-2... she has so
much going for her she has to be worth the risk.

¦ (ONE TO JUMP 2003) - are there any horses from "one to jump 2003" our feature which; each season, provides a list of horses to follow during the national hunt season? ¦: ¬>- Saint Par (FR)
¦ .t.h.e. .r.o.o.k. ¦:¬>- Cotopaxi, Tensile, Haydens Field, Giocomo, Yeoman's Point, Young American, Ballinclay King, and Saint Par, can all be given chances in the fourth on
the card. COTOPAXI has been in great form this term winning three times, most recently when beating Bernardon by 3lengths at Southwell in
August. He is sure to go well however connections of YEOMAN'S POINT owe punters having pulled him out of the Coral Cup on
the morning of the race when he was a strongly fancied favourite to land that prize. He was a decent novice last term,
whose fairly treated for this assignment, will handle the ground and has had a couple of pipe openers on
the flat, which should've put his right for this race... he has plenty going for him and is the selection. Those
punters looking for an eachway option could do a lot worse that SAINT PAR, who
showed some useful form in france and on heavy ground in this country at the backend of last season... If the ground becomes a bog he could
go well at a big price.

¦ .t.h.e. .r.o.o.k. ¦:¬>- Race five makes little appeal if I'm honest. Jolly Giant, Katie Buckers, Coastguard, Here Comes Henry, and Menelek Lord
appear to have the best claims. KATIE BUCKERS has been in fine form in the spring, rattling up a hatrick of wins at
Hereford and Uttoxeter (twice). Conditions are ideal and as long as she is match fit, she will very difficult to beat .. she is my
selection.

¦ (ONE TO JUMP 2003) - are there any horses from "one to jump 2003" our feature which; each season, provides a list of horses to follow during the national hunt season? ¦: ¬>- Scarborough Fair
¦ .t.h.e. .r.o.o.k. ¦:¬>- Silver Birch, McSnappy, Shardam, Scarborough Fair, Charlies Future, Lynrick Lady, and Moody Blues make most appeal in race six. SILVER BIRCH, who won a
maiden point-to-point at Inch in March is sure to go close, especially with
his stable in such good form, however SCARBOROUGH FAIR may be better value
(eachway) though the stable's' runner generally have need a run. He was eventually
well-beaten by Another General at Newbury in March, however he travelled for a long way in that race is a horse I expect to improve with
each run this term, hence his inclusion in this season's ONE TO JUMP feature.

¦ .t.h.e. .r.o.o.k. ¦:¬>- Iorana, Devon View, Asparagus, Passereau, Gue Au Loup, and Rovestar make most appeal in
the finale. IORANA has won his last four races on the bounce and is clearly coming into this in good heart, however I'm not certain he'd relish
a slog in the mud, therefore ASPARAGUS whose proven in the conditions is taken to score, especially if he can repeat the form of
his latest win at Uttoxeter, where he carried 12-0 to victory in heavy ground, beating Red
Oasis by 6 lengths with a distance back to the third. He will set a strong pace and can hopefully draw the
sting out of her rivals here.
