Analysis
& Selections by
der
dØlehest Hengstföhlen
Whether it be "the race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs, we will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the fancied horses participating each day and their characteristics and requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides you with a winner or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a particular may even convince you to back some of those horses which we feel are the "ones to fear", or have decent eachway claims. whichever is the case, we hope the information is of use to you.
SELECTIONS - For each race, we have given you who, in our view, are the likeliest winners;
(1er _ THE WINNER?), as well as any runners who could run well at eachway odds;
(E/W
ALTERNATIVE) . Any runner from our features are shown before each race's analysis.

¦ der dØlehest Hengstföhlen ¦:¬>- Almanzor and Hastaven; two of
the Czech Republic's best chasers take on Szeryf, one of the best in Poland in this
appetizer before the big race. Almanzor is interesting here. He ran a
great race in the XLVIII C. Siepi Di Merano (Hurdle} (gr.1)last time
out .. Here is an extract of my account of that race;
"Almanzor jumped straight into the lead and set a furious pace. Negro tried to match paces, but he couldn't sustain the gallop and dropped back dramatically. At halfway, Almanzor was a good 25lengths clear, however he rider sensibly allowed him to get a breather in and Ner, San Suru, Stodoun, Koenigsohn and Present Bleu began to each into the lead, whilst Valgano who'd been sitting off the second group crept back into the race. With four to go Ner, San Suru, and Stodoun cried enough and Almanzor, Koenigsohn and Present Bleu led the field out of the back straight. I must admit I thought that Almanzor would fall away, however to his credit, he stuck on bravely and beat of Koenigsohn and Present Bleu's challenge approaching two out, Valgano was flying and at the last touch down in front, however Almanzor was up for the battle and inched his way back up as the line came .... a couple of strides after the post he would have won, however Valgano took the prize, a short head in front of Almanzor, with Koenigsohn 11/2lengths back in third".
As good as Hastaven and Szeryf probably are, they wouldnt have the speed to do that
against some decent European hurdlers... It'll probably be a close call, howevr
Almanzor gets the vote.

¦ der dØlehest Hengstföhlen ¦:¬>-Can Celibate land the big race? .. well connections are certainly confident...
personally whilst he could go well, I cant help but think he would have had a better chance a few years ago. An honourable sixth Bindaree in the Martell Grand National in April and a bad effort at Sandown later that month is what he has to offer.... hmmm. Peruán, runner-up to Chalco last year, tries for a fourth win in the race. Both he and Chalco
benefited from Anatole' s fatal fall at the last a year ago, however they are proven over the course and distance. Peruán was fifth on his most recent
start in the Memoriál mjr. Miloše Svobody 6.roc. steeple (I) 5800m and is bound to be cherry ripe for this attempt, however Decent Fellow beat him fair and square that day and very impressive when winning in Germany in August... will the complexities of this race catch him out?
Who else can be considered?
Maskul who completed last season has another go here. He ran in the Letní cena Grou 4 Securitas, a.s. steeple (I) over 5800m here in
August where he finished third to Napoli, however Kedon who has his first attempt in this race beat him that day. I
find it interesting that Josef Vána rides this one instead of Chalco. He wouldnt have competed over the
full course, but has jumped enough of it to be a major threat if he were to jump round.
What about the class runners from Czechoslovakia ... well I've already mentioned Decent Fellow, however Sord and
Lentini are also rated amongst the best twenty chasers in the Czech Republic so their
chances have to be respected. Lentini finished just behind Decent Fellow in the Memoriál
mjr. Miloše Svobody 6.roc. steeple and should go well, whilst Sord finished fifth to Válecník in the AGROPOL GROUP a.s. steeple (II) 3300m at the end of
September ... he could run a big race at a nice price.
¦ SUMMARY ¦:¬>-Class appeals most here. I think Decent Fellow will go close if he jumps rounds,
however I have my reservations. Celibate will probably get round but may find a few too good for him here...
I'd be brave and go with Kedon to give Josef Vána another win in this great race. Sord is the eachway value in the race.
