"eþOINT Notebook" 2005
by "Į ÞOINTӘЯ"

Whether it be "the race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs, we will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the fancied horses participating each day and their characteristics and requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides you with a winner or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a particular may even convince you to back some of those horses which we feel are the "ones to fear", or have decent each-way claims. whichever is the case, we hope the information is of use to you.

ӘÞOINT NOTEBOOK #11
Thursday, April 28, 2005.
Here are our list of  the more interesting entries from this week´s Meetings, we'll be hoping to include more Irish prospects during the remainder of the campaign;

bullet
HIS LORDSHIP
b,g. Houmayoun (FR) - Quivering Melody
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs T M Gibson
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ I like the breeding of this six-year-old, who is a son of Houmayoun, out of the mare Quivering Melody, (a daughter of Lord Ha Ha, who won five races under rules), which makes this gelding a half-brother to amongst others The Full Nelson who should some ability when trained by Nicky Henderson a few season ago. I'm not suggesting that His Lordship is a world-beater, however you can't know him on pedigree and it'll be interesting to see how much promise he shows during the remainder of the campaign.
bullet I´M LOVIN´ IT
b,g. Supreme Leader - Sparky Mary
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: M J Hallett
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ I'm Lovin´ It us a rarity this term as he is added to the əPOINT notebook on the basis of a racecourse performance rather than on pedigree alone. This five-year-old ran in a division of the Open Maiden on Littlewindsor' s card on 24.04.05. On that occasion, this son of Supreme Leader travelled sweetly in rear before making smooth headway to lead four from home. He still appeared to be travelling well, however he appeared to be bumped by the winner Somedo Somedon´t, unfortunately giving his pilot no chance of remaining in the saddle, however the winner may be useful as therefore the experience gained here should ensure recompense .. hopefully in the not-too-distant future
bullet MOODS
b,g. Lord Americo - Eòin´s Orchestra
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: T Hemmings
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ I will not be at all surprised if this five-year-old doesn't one day race under rules. Trevor Hemmings must be pleased to own this son of Lord Americo, who is out of the mare Eòin´s Orchestra, (who is a daughter of Orchestra), which means that that Moods is a half-brother to Sigma Techs, who won two races, but probably didn´t quite fulfill Noel Meade's expectations of him. He looks good on paper and I'll be fascinated to see how he performs during the remainder of this campaign, but like most of these and definitely worth keeping an eye on over the next 18months or so.
bullet NGONĜ HILLS (FR)
b,g. Passing Sale (FR) - Caryatide (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --:
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Ngonĝ Hills is another Irish pointer we've included in this feature. This four-year-old is nicely bred being a son of b,g. Passing Sale, out of the mare Caryatide, (a daughter of Maiymad), which makes Ngonĝ Hills a half-brother to amongst others Jumpty Dumpty, who was with Guillaume Macaire before winning two races over obstacles during the last twenty-four months. Ngonĝ Hills has had one run to date, in a 4-Y-O Maiden at Summerhill on 24.04.05, where he travelled well and was still in contention when coming down at the third last. Hopefully he has suffered no ill-effects from that experience and can build on that promise during the remainder of the campaign.
bullet SHUIL AN BURREN
b,g. Luso - Shuil Stoirmeach
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: P Barber
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Shuil An Burren was bought with the future in mind. This four-year-old son of Luso is out of the mare Shuil Stoirmeach, [a daughter of Strong Gale], which means that Shuil An Burren is related to several winner including Foursure who three races between the flags, Shuil Osheen who won five time and is the dam of 6 winners inc. Shuil Donn, who won 11 times, Shuil Orient: 2 wins over hurdles at 5 years placed 4 times; Shuil Ogue VI, [2 wins in N.H. Flat Races as well as once over hurdles Baronet; who won 7 races including the Scottish Grand National, and Shuil Liss: [winner of a N.H. Flat Race; also 4 wins over hurdles and 3 wins over fences; who is the dam of Liss A Paoraigh a decent hurdler a few season ago. Success flows through the veins of this family bloodline and I am not surprised bought him with a view to one day running under runs... I look forward to noting his progress over the coming seasons
bullet SOMEDO SOMEDON´T
b,g. Sovereign Water (FR) - My Purple Prose
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Richard Barber
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ After giving it some thought I've decided to include Somedo Somedon´t in the əPOINT notebook, having included I´m Lovin´´´ It , who may have beaten him when they met on their respective debuts in a division of the Open Maiden on Littlewindsor' s card on 24.04.05. This son of Sovereign Water had travelled well himself, and after appear to bump I'm Lovin´´ It stayed on to beat Apatura Rose by 5lengths. There was some market support for him that day and as he in a yard sure to maximise his potential, there appears to be plenty of reasons to keeping a watching brief on him.
bullet SPERYMON
b,g. Terimon - Spandulay (USA)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs Judy Wilson
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Sperymon is another debutante that is added to the əPOINT notebook this weekend. This six-year-old is out of the sire Terimon, by the mare Spandulay, (a daughter of the American sire Arts And Letters), which makes Sperymon a half-brother to Stormy Words and Ellemford, who from memory both won races between the flags. Sperymon has clearly been slow to come to hand, however he hails from a yard that are renowned for doing this and as he is sure to be well-schooled, I'd be hopeful of some signs of promise before the end of the season

ӘÞOINT NOTEBOOK #10
Thursday, April 08, 2005.
A slightly curtailed feature because of our Aintree summary this week
, here are our list of  the more interesting entries from this week´s Meetings;

bullet BROTHER PETE
b,g. Detroit Sam (FR) - Rambling Moss
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: J. W. Tudor
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Brother Pete is a six-year-old son of Detroit Sam, out of the mare Rambling Moss (a daughter of Le Moss), which means that Brother Pete is a full-brother to amongst others Pete The Painter, who won point-to-points as well as a Beginners' Chase at Worcester in June '04. He looks good on paper and is worth monitoring during the remainder of the season.
bullet CAPT. JACK
b,g. Houmayoun (FR) - Pride Of The West
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: M. J. Parr
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Capt. Jack is our "ex-Irish addition" this week. This six-year-old, has joined present connections after showing promise each of his three runs to date - his best effort being when he came home second behind Was I Right in a 5 & 6-y-o Horses & Geldings Maiden at Dromohane in April '04. The winner has run well in Hunter Chases this season, therefore this son of Houmayoun must has strong claims in Maiden company this winter.
bullet INNOCENT BYSTANDER
ch,g. Rudimentary (USA) - Right To The Top
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs Alix Stevenson
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Innocent Bystander is added to the əPOINT notebook, as this six-year-old appeals to me on pedigree, being a son of Rudimentary, out of the mare Right To The Top, (a daughter of Nashwan), which means Innocent Bystander is a half-brother to Convent Girl, who has won four races on the flat. Innocent Bystander has had one run to date - for former trainer Malcolm Jefferson, in a bumper at Hexham in October '03, however he was too backward to do himself justice and made little show, eventually coming twelfth behind County Classic [btn. 70lengths]. If may be unwise to judge him solely on that run, and therefore if he has inherited any ability, he may now being better placed to show it ... [one to note possibly in maidens at the end of the season].
bullet MONALEASE
br,m. Terimon - Spalease
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs Judy Wilson
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Any homebred introduced by Mrs Judy Wilson is worth a look at in the paddock in this sphere... Monalease is added to the əPOINT notebook as I discovered that this six-year-old daughter of Terimon is by the mare Spalease, [a daughter of Strong Gale], which means that Monalease is related to several horses who have done well in this discipline, most notably Sheer Jest a top-class point, who graduated to Hunter Chases, eventually winning the Martell Fox Hunters' Chase in 1995. Monalease could be anything, however she made need time.. lookout for some promise before the end of the season.

ӘÞOINT NOTEBOOK #09
Thursday, March 31, 2005.
Back from our Gloucestershire break, here are our list of  the more interesting entries from this week´s Meetings;

bullet BODACIOUS
gr,g. Broken Hearted - Fancy Step
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --:
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Bodacious is one of several Irish pointers that we´ve added to the əPOINT notebook this week. This son of Broken Hearted, is out the mare Fancy Step, [a daughter of Step Together (USA)], which makes Bodacious a full-brother to Yash Can Step, who won two races under rules. Bodacious has had just the one run to date in a 4-Year-Old Maiden at Belclare two weeks ago, and he showed plenty of promise, staying on from the sixth-last to finish second to Sir Overbury, [btn. 10lengths]. This four-year-old should come on for the run and hopefully will join the list of winners in this feature this season.
bullet CHASSEUR (GER)
ch,g. Laroche (GER) - Ca Ira (GER)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --:
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Chasseur is a five-year-old son of the German sire Laroche, out of the mare Ca Ira, [a daughter of Dancing Dissident], which makes Chasseur a half-brother to Trois Elles, who won on the flat. Chasseur has had one run, whilst we were away in Gloucester - in a 5&6yo Geldings Maiden at Oldcastle two weeks ago, where he travelled well and was still in contention, when he fell at the second-last handing the race to the winner Somebodytoldme. Chasseur is sure to have come on for that experience and must be a candidate for victory if he puts in a clear round.
bullet EDIӘ MCCREDIE
b,m. Flemensfirth (USA) - Forest Gale
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: J D Callow
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Ediә McCredie "walked" into the əPOINT notebook this week. This five-year-old couldn´t be better bred being a daughter of Flemensfirth, out of the mare Forest Gale, which makes Ediә McCredie a half-sister to Wishing William, Forest Fountain, Philtre, and Sir Galeforce, who all won point-to-points as well as Hunter Chases, as well as Snowtre, who has won a couple of races between the flags. She has plenty going for here and I´ll be looking for some promise before the end of the season.
bullet FUTURE SOVEREIGN
br,g. Sovereign Water (FR) - Cautious Leader
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: C J Hitchings
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Future Sovereign is an attractively-bred debutant who is added to the əPOINT notebook this week. He is a son of Sovereign Water, out of the mare Cautious Leader (a daughter of Supreme Leader), which makes him a half-brother to several winners, including Celtic Park, Must Bite and Carrick Lanes, who all won races over obstacles under rules, as well as High Fields, who has won races between the flags. There is plenty of potential here and it´ll be interesting to see how he performs during the remainder of the campaign.
bullet KAŽAL (FR)
ch,g. Villez (USA) - Moody Cloud (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --:
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Kažal is another Irish recruit to the feature, though he is the first that is un-raced. This four-year-old is a son of Villez, out of the mare Moody Cloud, a daughter of Cyborĝ, who was victorious over obstacles at Auteuil and Pau in the mid-Nineties. He appeals on paper and I´ll be interested to see how he performs during the remainder of the campaign.
bullet LONDON BY NIGHT (USA)
b,g. Mt. Livermore (USA) - Sheenasgold (USA)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Miss J Fellows
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ London by Night is certainly not bred to be plying his trade in point-to-points, as this a son of the American sire Mt. Livermore, out of the mare Sheenasgold (a daughter of Fast Gold, who was a winner in the US), which makes him a half-brother to two winners, most notably The Groom Is Red who amongst his successes in the USA won the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes. This five-year-old has run six times for Terry Mills without every threatening to trouble the judge, [arguably his best effort was his second start when he came home last behind Tiber at Goodwood in September ´02, [btn. 16lengths], however he is older and stronger and could be worth monitoring for signs of him "blooming"...
bullet MILTON DES BIEFFES (FR)
gr,g. Princeton (FR) - Rose Fuschia (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --:
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Milton Des Bieffes is another Irish pointer that we´ve added to the əPOINT notebook this week. This son of Princeton is out the mare Rose Fuschia, [a daughter of Courtroom], and has had just the one run to date in a 4-Year-Old Maiden at Belclare two weeks ago, where he was held up before making steady progress in the final mile to finish fourth to Sir Overbury, [btn. 14lengths]. This four-year-old showed plenty of promise and hopefully will improve enough to land a maiden before the end of the campaign.
bullet NIMBŪ
b,g. Classic Cliché - Henrietta Howard
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: W M Aitchison
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Nimbū is another five-year-old that has made it into this feature. he is a son of Classic Cliché, out of the mare Henrietta Howard; a daughter of King´s Ride, who won five races under rules - which means that Nimbū hails from the same family as Gay Moore, Knockout, Wait No Longer and Solway Donal who also won races under rules. He appeals on paper and I´ll be hoping for some signs of potential before the end of the season.
bullet PICCINǏ (FR)
ch,g. Sillery (USA) - Emblem (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: M. C. Pipe
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ When Martin Pipe purchased Piccinǐ off of Alec Head a couple of years ago I imagine that he was hoping to have already won a few races with him, as this five-year-old is a son of Sillery, out of the mare Emblem, [a daughter of Siberian Express], which makes him a half-brother to Siberian Highness, [who won on the flat], as well as Jardín De Beaulieu, [a useful middle-distance chaser for Ian Williams this season]. He has disappointed after showing potential on his debut in a bumper at Newton Abbot in April ´04, coming home fourth behind Saxon Mist, [btn. 11lengths], and it may simply be that he has needed more time to come to hand ... time will tell.
bullet QUEEN BOUDICCA
b,m. El Conquistador - Tinsel Rose
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs R. Vickery
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Queen Boudicca has been added to the list, as this six-year-old daughter of El Conquistador appealed partly because of her pedigree, [she is a daughter of Tinsel Rose, who hails from the same family as winners Love On The Rocks, Martinmas, Moriarty and Spring Philtre, who all won under rules], as well as hailing from a yard, who will ensure that she has been well schooled. I´m not sure that I´ll be expecting too much of her, however we´ll see if she shows some promise before the end of the campaign
bullet SHERIFFSGUN
b,g. Needle Gun - Crackingham
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Jeremy Beasley
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Sheriffsgun is another debutant that caught the eye amongst this week´s entries, as this five-year-old is a son of Needle Gun, out of the mare Crackingham, (a daughter of Trimmingham), which makes Sheriffsgun a half-brother of Romanóskì, who won under rules, as well as Brockton Glen, Winward, Cracked Ice and Pull Your Socks Up, who were all placed under rules. Needle Gun a decent performer on the flat could develop into is an interesting national hunt sire for the future so I´ll be interested to see how he performs during the remainder of the campaign.
bullet SPICE RACK
b,g. Rakaposhi King - Cinnamon Run
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs A Villar
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Spice Rack caught my eye amongst the entries. This six-year-old is nicely bred, being a son of Rakaposhi King, out of the mare Cinnamon Run, [a daughter of Deep Run], which means that Spice Rack is a half-brother to Cinnamon Line, Sister Cinnamon, Cassia and Cinnamon Club, who amongst their victories all won races under rules. He appears to have plenty going for him and I´ll be interested to see how he performs during the remainder of the season.
bullet THE BABE MAGNET
ch,g. Bob´s Return - White Jazz
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs M A Kendall
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ The Babe Magnet is another five-year-old that we´ve added to this feature this week. He is a son of Bob´s Return, out of the mare White Jazz (a daughter of Jaazeiro), who was placed three times over obstacles, from five attempts. I don´t really have much more to go on, however there is something about the pedigree I like .... I´ll keep an eye on him ... just in case!!! ....
bullet TŖIZZY
b,m. Petrizzo - Cavisoir
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: H J Manners
¦¨¨“Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ John Manners´ home-breds are always worth a second look and this five-year-old is certainly one to note for the future as she is a daughter of Petrizzo, out of the mare Cavisoir (a daughter of Afzal), who is an un-raced half-sister to high-class hunter Cavalero, and means that Tŗizzy is a half-sister to Man From Highworth who has won two races over hurdles this season and looks capable of better form once he is tried over fences. She is almost certainly going to be a broodmare in the future, however she will be even more attractive if she can will a race or two...

ӘÞOINT NOTEBOOK #08
Thursday, March 4, 2005.
Here are our list of  the more interesting entries from this week's Meetings;

bullet ÄITCHJAYEM
b,g. Rakaposhi King - G W Supermare
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: H J Manners
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ John Manners does extremely well with this home-breds, so it'll be interesting to see how he does with Äitchjayem over the coming season. This five-year-old is interestingly bred being a son of Rakaposhi King, out of the mare G W Supermare, which makes Äitchjayem a half-brother to, amongst other; Perfect Fellow [7 wins], Casterbridge, [2 wins], Friendly Fellow , [2 wins], and No Near Miss [1 Win] who've all won races under rules. He looks good on paper and it'll be interesting to see how he performs this time around.
bullet BLACKBRIERY THYNE
br,m. Good Thyne (USA) - Briery Gale
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs Helen Plumbly
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ I must confess to missing this six-year-old last week, however had I spotted her she would have definitely been added as she is a daughter of Good Thyne, out of the mare Briery Gale, who I remember racing under rules for Capt. Tim Forster in the mid-nineties. This means that Blackbriery Thyne is a half-brother to Briery Fox, who has won a couple of racing under rules for Henry Daly and hopefully, [assuming she has inherited some of the family's winning habit] we may some signs of ability before the end of the season.
bullet EXŌDOUS (ARG)
ch,g. Equalize (USA) - Empire Glory (ARG)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs A Blaker
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ The "Argentinean Experiment" instigated by Paul Webber/Jim Old and Wally Sturt, a few seasons ago, probably didn´t quite have the impact that there expected/hoped for, however they did several horses that went on to win races under over here, One of the best of these is Exōdous, a nine-year-old son of Equalize, who was a winner in Listed company in his native land as well as being placed in several of their better Graded races. He hasn´t been the soundest of horses, but did show enough to win two of his fourteen races over obstacles, most recently when landing a 4000m handicap hurdle at Worcester in June '04 off of a mark of 98. He shouldn't have a problem with the trip, and as long as he takes top the larger obstacles is definitely capable of winning.. as long as he is realistically placed.
bullet GARDEN SHED SPIDER
b,g. Lord Americo - Muffet´s Spider
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: N. Ender
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ The cleverly named Garden Shed Spider, [not quite as good as John Manners naming Äitchjayem with his initials, but a good name nonetheless], is another newcomer added to this
əPOINT notebook this week. This five-year-old is a son of Lord Americo, out of the mare Muffet´s Spider, (a daughter of Rymer), which means that Garden Shed Spider is a half-brother to amongst others: Mighty Strong, [who matured with age to become a bit of a Newbury specialist], as well as Spider Music, [who has been placed over obstacles recently for Ferdy Murphy]. He probably needs time, however hopefully he shows some promise before the end of the season.
bullet ITSALLOVERNOW
ch,g. Mister Lord (USA) - Go And Tell
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Paul Nicholls
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Itsallovernow is an interesting newcomers we've added to the list. This son of Mister Lord is out of the mare Go And Tell, [a daughter of Kemal], which makes him a half-brother to that useful performer Stars Out Tonight, who has won four races thus far under rules. He is almost certainly destined for a career under rules, however in the meantime, it'll be interesting to see how this five-year-old performs.
bullet MISTER BEY (FR)
ch,g. Beyssac (FR) - Rivolie (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: O P J Meli
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Arguably Mister Bey is the best-bred of the five-year-olds we've added to the əPOINT notebook this week. He is a son of Beyssac, out of the mare Rivolie, (a daughter of Mistigri), which means Mister Bey is a full-brother, to amongst others Joly Bey; a leading fancy for this season's Grand National, who has won races in the UK as well as in France; as well as Key Phil and Feyssac, who has both won races in France. He ran five times in France for Thomas Trapenard, without troubling the judge, however he still has plenty going for him and is probably worth the risk.
bullet MŌKUJIN (FR)
b,g. Kizitca (FR) - Susana (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: A. G. Fear
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Mōkujin is a well-bred debutante, who we've added to the list. This five-year-old is a son of Kizitca, out of the mare Susana, [a daughter of Iveday], which makes Mōkujin a half-brother to amongst others Êxtrien, a decent in France a few years ago, who won placed in several races including when coming second to Graal De Chalamont in the 2000 Prix Du President de la Republique (French Grand National), beating the likes of Kaki Crazy and Goguenard who did well under rules over here. He appeals on pedigree and it'll be interesting to see how he performs during the remainder of the campaign.
bullet TĦALYS (GER)
bl,g. Gold And Ivory (USA) - Tachira
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Miss P Theobald
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Tħalys has a similar profile to Exodus who has also been included this week as he had quite a big reputation having shown some decent form on the flat in his native Germany. It therefore seems harsh to chastise a horse that has run twelve times over obstacles, winning three times as well as finishing in the frame on six other occasions, however he was an under-achiever. That said he is only seven and he does come here off of the back of a victory in a 3800m handicap chase at Hereford in February '04 off of an official rating of 95. If his new pilot and him click, then who knows... there may well be a victory within his grasp.
bullet ROCKVALE
ch,g. Presenting - Vanhalensdarling
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: G T H Bailey
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Rockvale is the final debutante that we will be adding to the əPOINT notebook this week. This six-year-old is attractively -bred being a son of Presenting, out of the mare Vanhalensdarling, [a daughter of Green Shoon, who won three point-to-points], which makes Rockvale a half-brother to amongst others Mountain Thyne, [who won three point-to-points, as well as a Hunter Chase at Hexham in April '02], Halen´s Match, [who won two point-to-points] and Vanhoutonscoco [who ran twice in N.H. Flat Races and over hurdles], and comes from the same family as
Wild Flyer: [3 wins over hurdles and placed 4 times; also 3 wins in point-to-points], Gladtogetit: [winner of a N.H. Flat Race; as well as 3 wins over fences], and Little Brown Bear, [2 wins and £10,612 over fences]. There is plenty of potential here, and hopefully we will see some promise before the end of the campaign.

We're off to Gloucester now for our break, if you happen to be going to any point-to-points in the midlands over the next three weeks and you see a very large black gentlemen at a meeting, there a very good chance that it'll be us... come over and say hello. If not, Good luck with your selections at Cheltenham... hopefully the əPOINT notebook will find a few more winners until come back at Easter...

ӘÞOINT NOTEBOOK #08
Thursday, February 25, 2005.
Here are our list of  the more interesting entries from this week's Meetings;

bullet AWARD ME AN OSCAR
b,g. Oscar - Anshan Lady
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: D. Pipe
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Award Me An Oscar is the first of several newcomers that we will be adding this week. This five-year-old son of Oscar, is out of the dam Anshan Lady, [a daughter of Anshan] and hails from the Nicholashayne point-to-point academy. Obviously not all of these win races, however Oscar is an up-and-coming sire who is doing really well over obstacles at present and I think that Award Me An Oscar deserves a "watching brief" over the remainder of the season.
bullet BOBBLE
ch,m. Bob's Return - Grayrose Double
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Dr. G. M. Thelwall-Jones
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Bobble is another five-year-old debutante added this week to the notebook. This daughter of Bob's Return is out of the mare Grayrose Double, (who is a daughter of Celtic Cone) which means that Bobble is a half-sister to The Muratti and Grayrose Fleur who both have won races under rules as well as several other performers who finished in the frame. I like her pedigree and I will be interested to see how she performs during the remainder of the campaign.
bullet EXCẺPTIONNEL (FR)
b,g. Subotica (FR) - The Exception (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Lady Connell
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ I've been waiting for Excẻptionnel to make a racecourse appearance, you see I've been aware that he was purchased to race in this country, after some research I was doing, in one of my guises as an advisor about potential purchases from France a few years ago. This six-year-old is a son of Subotica, out of the mare The Exception, [a daughter of Melynó], which makes Excẻptionnel a half-brother to amongst other Cadogan, [a winner on France], as well as more interestingly Mely Moss, [a very decent, but fragile chaser, who came second in the Grand National a couple of seasons ago. As well as suggesting the he was an interesting prospect, I added him to that season's ONE TO JUMP feature, however he obviously has been slow to come to hand, however he is still a nice prospect and we will be interested to see how he fares during the remainder of the campaign.
bullet FREMANTLE DOCTOR (FR)
b,g. Gildoran - Glen Breeze
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: A J Taylor
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ This son of Gildoran is out of the mare Glen Breeze (a daughter of Glacial Storm) which makes Fremantle Doctor distantly related to several winners, including Native Jack with Arthur Moor, as well as several horses placed under rules. Fremantle Doctor will probably need some time, however hopefully he should show some promise before the end of the season.
bullet GEMSTER
b,m. Alflora - Gemmabel
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: A. Hollingsworth
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ It'll be no surprise to us if Gemster makes it into the winners' enclosure before too long. This seven-year-old daughter of Alflora has been given some experience under rules before embarking on a pointing career, and whilst she was initially too backward/immature to do herself justice, her most recent effort in a Handicap Hurdle at Taunton in February '04 was a little more encouraging, as she stayed on to finish fourth behind Water Sports , [btn. 14½lengths]. She is sure to have been well-schooled and gives the impression that she could be a improved performer this time around... She could be hard to beat in a mares maiden granted luck in running
bullet GONNA DO
ch,g. Gunner B - Flimsy Fortune
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: M. H. Weston
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ I am a fervent believer in the value of monitory breeding dynasties a source of future winners ... i.e. the Grey Dove bloodline has been responsible for numerous winners like champion hurdler Flakey Dove, as well as a succession of horse who carried the Dove "surname" with distinction. Although at first glance Gonna Do's pedigree is interesting, without being awe-inspiring, if like you look deeper into his family tree, you quickly discover that his dam Flimsy Fortune is a daughter of Flimsy Jacksy, who has produced numerous winners, most notably Flimsy Truth, who won several races between the flags before going under rules and landing the National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, as well as running creditably in several long-distance steeplechases. There is definite potential here and whilst that may not be fulfilled in the short-term, Gonna Do may well become a familiar name in this sphere over the coming seasons
bullet GRANDE BRETAGNE (FR)
b,g. Legend Of France (USA) - L´Epicurienne (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs S Prouse
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ If you happen to look at the form shown on the newspaper this week against Grand Bretagne, you're probably wondering why we have put a horse with the form figures "0PP" in this feature... well although this son of Legend of France's form under rules wasn´t frankly that great, it is worth noting that he is out of the mare L´Epicurienne, which makes Grande Bretagne a half-brother to useful chaser L´Epicurien, Epicure, [who has won under rules as well as point-to-points], and Masque De Fer, [a winner over obstacles in France]. He gave the impression of being backward last season, and therefore its quite conceivable that this six-year-old could leave this form behind between the flags this season.
bullet ĦESCONDIDO (FR)
gr,g. Dadarissime (FR) - Vahine De Prairie (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Miss Lucie Batchelor
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Ħescondido always seems to find his way into our website's features. We placed him in our One To Jump feature after he'd shown ability in his native France, however he has never really made the impact that connections probably thought he would and yet saying that, he did win six races under rules. He has not raced since finishing 55 lengths behind Montreal in a handicap chase at Bangor-On-Dee in May and unless his career is in freefall, he should still have enough ability to make his presence felt in this discipline.
bullet İBBERTON
b,g. Sovereign Water (FR) - Betty Hayes
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Robert Alner
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ İbberton appears to have the prefect profile for this discipline. This five-year-old débutant is a son of the sire Sovereign Water, out of the mare Betty Hayes, [a daughter of Jimsum], who won several races between the flags, as well as five hunter chases under rules. İbberton is sure to have been well prepared by connections, and if there is any ability here, this team is sure to get the best out of him.
bullet KNIGHT AT THE BAR
gr,g. Aristocracy - Whisky And A Lager
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Ian Anderson
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Knight at the Bar is a six-year-old gelding by Aristocracy, out of the mare Whisky And A Lager, [a daughter of Carlingford Castle]. There isn´t immediately any endearing reasons to place Knight at the Bar in this feature, however I delved into his pedigree and discovered that although Whisky And A Lager didn´t race, she has produced one other foal Lord´tipple, who was placed over hurdles recently in Ireland, and similarly her dam Whisky Path despite not being raced, was the dam of The Criosra, who was placed once over fences at 5 years; also 3 wins in point-to-points and placed 10 times, as well as McAttack who is a winner of a point-to-point at 5 years and placed twice. There are other winner that can be traced through this bloodline, so whilst I'm not at exuberant as I will be shortly, I won't be at all surprised if we didn´t see some promise before the end of the season.
bullet LIFE COVER
b,m.. Alflora - Front Cover
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Stewart Pike
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ I eulogised earlier about the merits of Gonna Do and the significance of his family tree. Well, if this theory is true, then arguably Life Cover is entitled to even greater respect as this daughter of Alflora is out of the mare Front Cover who won several races between the flags as well as a couple of Hunter Chases. That itself would arguably be enough for her inclusion in this list, however further investigation confirmed my thoughts that there was a significant dynasty here. Sure enough, Front Cover is a daughter of the mare Roman Lilly. To those with long memories, this immediately will help trigger memories of some of her progeny, the likes of Proud Sun, Synderborough Lad, Winter's Lane and Sweatshirt, who like Front Cover all won races between the flags before winning races under rules. Winning bloodlines don't get much better than this and if Front Cover has inherited some of her mother's genes, you have to be hopeful that her progeny could well follow in the family footsteps. I'll certainly be hopeful that is the case.
bullet LIGHTNINGCONDUCTOR
br,g. Glacial Storm (USA) - New Cello
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Christopher Sporborg
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ We've decided to add Lightningconductor to the ӘÞOINT notebook although he is probably more of a long-term prospect. This five-year-old debutant is a son of Glacial Storm, out of the mare New Cello, which makes Lightningconductor related to amongst other Koko Kabana and New Perk, who were both placed under rules. There isn´t an immediate reason for my choosing him, however the Sporborg will ensure that he is well prepared and we'll therefore give him a watching brief until the end of the season.
bullet LORD OF THE BOG
br,g. Mister Lord (USA) - Shakie Lady
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: R Kelvin-Hughes
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Lord of the Bog is another newcomer added to the ӘÞOINT notebook. This six-year-old is a son of Mister Lord, out of the mare Shakie Lady (a daughter of Tug of War), which makes Lord of the Bog a half-brother to Pharare, [who won several races between the flags as well as some Hunter chases], as well as Aura About Him and Tower Of Lloyd who both won races under rules. He looks good on paper and it'll be interesting to see how he gets on over the coming weeks.
bullet MI FA SOL AULMES (FR)
ch,m. Garde Royalé (FR) - Bull Finch Aulmes (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Miss Rosemary Jeffreys
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ My knowledge of French pedigree means that Mi Fa Sol Aulmes is added to the ӘÞOINT Notebook. This five-year-old is a daughter of Garde Royalé out of the mare Bull Finch Aulmes (who is a daughter of Rose Laurel) which means that Mi Fa Sol Aulmes is a full-sister to Edition Française who's name may not immediately spring to your attention, however this seven-year-old had shown some useful form in Irish point-to-points before breaking down on his only start under rules. There is probably more potential here than immediately meets the eye and as a result, this mare may merit closer attention in maidens, particularly mares-only races once she's had some experience.
bullet MIRAMAR (FR)
ch,g. Řagmar (FR) - Detroit III (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs M Trueman
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Miramar is a fascinatingly-bred newcomer, [contrary to the information given on the Racing Post website]. This five-year-old is a son of Řagmar, out of the mare Detroit Iii, [a daughter of Video Rock]. Although his dam Detroit Iii was un-raced, she has already produced a couple of useful performers in France, most notably Kamillo, a useful chaser trained by Francois Cottin, who last season came second to the great Ķotkijet in the Gras Savoye Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris (Grade 1) at Auteuil in May '04. Clearly his pedigree appeals and it'll be interesting to see how he progresses this season.
bullet PRESENTAL
b,g. Presenting - Oriental Blaze
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Aiden Murphy
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Presental is another newcomer added to the ӘÞOINT notebook. This five-year-old son of popular sire Presenting, is out of the mare Oriental Blaze, [a daughter of Seamanship], which makes Presental a half-brother to amongst others Eastern River, who won several races under rules in the early nineties. He has a nice pedigree and merits some scrutiny over the remainder of the season.
bullet PUSSLIŅ
gr,m. Gran Alba (USA) - Leading Line
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: P A Jones
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Pussliņ is arguably one of better related newcomers who we've added to the ӘÞOINT notebook this week. This seven-year-old is a daughter of Gran Alba, out of the mare Leading Line, [a daughter of Leading Man], which makes Pussliņ a half-sister to amongst others Ardentium, Leading Optimist, Shimba Hills, The Leader and Captiva Bay, who all managed to win races under rules. I'd be interested to know why it has taken here until now to make it onto the racecourse, however I glad to say that she is yet another mare who may pay to follow, once she has gained some experience
bullet SHACKLETON
b,g. Glacial Storm (USA) - Supreme View
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Lord Daresbury
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Decent ex-Irish pointer Shackleton has left Enda Bolger's care and is now trained in the UK. Last season this nine-year-old son of Glacial Storm still appeared to retain plenty of ability and although he didn´t win, he was placed in several of Ireland's better Hunter Chases, his most recent completion being a fourth behind General Montcalm in the Tetratema Perpetual Cup at Gowran Park in April '04, [btn. 34lengths]. There is still some mileage left on this clock and with the right placing will be hard to beat between the flags, although eh may life harder in Hunter Chases
bullet ŴELHAM
b,g. Executive Perk - Herballistic
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: David M Easterby
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Ŵelham is the last debutante to be added to the ӘÞOINT notebook this week. This five-year-old is a son of Executive Perk, out of the mare Herballistic, [a daughter of Rolfe], which makes Ŵelham related to amongst other Miniballist a winner over hurdles a few seasons ago and Ballistigo who has been placed under rules. He is sure to have been well schooled by present connections and hopefully will show some potential before the end of the season.
bullet WHATWASIGOINGTOSAY
b,g. Ajraas (USA) - Lilac Lass
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: R. Price
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Whatwasigoingtosay probably isn´t one of the best recruits to have coming from the Irish pointing fields, however this son of Ajraas, does have a few things going for him. He is a son of the mare Lilac Lass, [a daughter of Virginia Boy],, who has produced Sylvia´s Saffron, Exhibitioner, Caìlin Rua and Caìlin Naofa who have all be placed under rules, and he himself did show a glimmer of ability when last seen on a racecourse when he stayed on to finish third behind Premount in a 4yo Maiden race at Clonmel in October '03. Premount didn´t run too badly next-time-out in a Winners race so its quite possible so there may be some hope for this six-year-old over the coming weeks
bullet WHITES TOUCH
gr,m. Mister Lord (USA) - Charlottes Lot
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: T. D. B. Underwood
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Whites Touch is the last traveller from Ireland added to the ӘÞOINT notebook this week. This eight-year-old ran twenty times in Ireland and whilst for a lot of her initial starts she shown only a little ability, however last season this daughter of Mister Lord showed her first signs of consistency when coming second in a 5yo+ Mares Maiden at Skibereen in February '04 and made no mistake two runs later when she stayed on to beat a similar event at Ballynoe two months later.. She ran well in a "Winner Of Two" at Butlerstown two weeks later and has run well in two Mares Open, most recently when coming home third to Jo's Boutique at Dromahane on 23 May 2004. There is some potential here and she may be worth noting in Mares races during the remainder of the season.

ӘÞOINT NOTEBOOK #07
Thursday, February 11, 2005.
Here are our list of horses who ran well at last week's Meetings, as well as some of the more interesting entries from this week's Meetings;

bullet AR NÓS NA GAÓITHE
b,m. Toulon - Sidhe Gaóth
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: M G Jones
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Ar Nós Na Gaóithe is the first of several debutants that have made it into this week's list. Ar Nós Na Gaóithe is a six-year-old daughter of Toulon, who is out of the mare Sidhe Gaóth; (a daughter of Le Moss), which makes her a half-sister to amongst others An Spailpin Fânach, who I seem to remember having plenty of ability, and may well have won some point a few seasons ago, however is probably more remembered for being frustratingly placed on many occasions between the flags as well under rules. You could adopt a negative viewpoint based on this information, however until she races, you have to give there the benefit of the doubt... It'll be interesting to see how she performs over the coming months
bullet CITY SECRETS (USA)
ch,g. Diesis - Catch A Glimpse (USA)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mark Burton
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ City Secrets is a interesting new recruit to these shores. At first glance you are immediately taken by his pedigree, as you would normally associate a son of Diesis, with exploits on the flat, and his dam Catch A Glimpse, [herself a daughter of Gulch], reemphasizes this having herself already having produced Vision First to be a winner on the level. This suggests that there must have been a reason(s) why City Secrets did not run on the flat, and this point is further illustrated by the fact that he hasn´t raced since coming home fourth behind Tei Kapi in a 5 & 6-y-o Geldings Maiden at Tyrellą in March '03, [21Lengths]. Why therefore has he been included? .. well the form of that point was franked when the second and third won their next respective starts and the fifth home also won that season, and therefore whilst I'm not suggesting that his form was necessarily special, He did clearly have some ability/potential and as he only seven with a miniscule amount of mileage on the clock, its quick possible that he could be a chance worth taking .... He is certainly worth monitoring initially, rather than punting on
bullet FERRYPORT HOUSE
br,g. Over The River (FR) - Tusker Lady
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: R J Hewitt
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Ferryport House is the second ex-Irish recruit to be added to this feature this week. This eight-year-old of Over The River, unlike City Gent, has actually demonstrated he has the ability/desire to win a race, and actually has quite an envious record as although has fallen in three of his six starts, he is yet to finish out of the first two when he stands up and has bagged two success to date; a 6 & 7-y-o Geldings Maiden at Roscommon in November '03, where he stayed on best to beat Cloghancross by 3Lengths, as well as landing a "Winner of One" race on his most recent start at Sligo in May '04, on this occasion he again kept on to beat Kilmore Lad by 2½ lengths. Allowing him some time to acclimatise, if he improve of that level of form over here, Ferryport House won't have to improve too much to be able to win races in the UK.
bullet HOULIHAN´S FREE
b,g. Gothland (FR) - Yawa Prince
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: H B Geddes
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Houlihan´s Free joins this feature this week mainly because of the promise shown last term in Ireland. This six-year-old son of Gothland ran twice failing to complete on his debut in 5yo Maiden at Áthlacca in March, before appearing to benefit from the experience on his only other start in a similar heat two months later at Dromohane. On that occasion he was prominent throughout, before sticking on bravely when challenged to beat Justthetwoofus by 2lengths. Although that form has been let down somewhat by the second, its interesting that he has been purchased by the Geddes family, who clearly believe that he has the potential to develop into a useful horse in this sphere .. That recommendation is good enough for me, and it'll be interesting to see how he progresses this season.
bullet LUTIN COLLONGÉS (FR)
b,g. Řagmar (FR) - Ariane Collongés (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mike Roberts
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ The prize of "pedigree of the week" would almost certainly go to Lutin Collongés. This six-year-old is beautifully-bred being a son of Řagmar out of the mare Ariane Collongés; (herself a daughter of Quart De Vin), which makes Lutin Collongés a half-brother to Imperial Collongés and Katy Collongés, who was placed under rules, but more significantly, it makes him a half-brother to Hussard Collongés, who himself won a maiden point-to-point, before going on to land the 2002 Sun Alliance Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. Connections must be hoping that Lutin Collongés has half of that horse's ability.. if he does - it isn´t hard to imagine him doing well in this discipline over the coming seasons.
bullet MAITRE LEVY (GER)
b,g. Monsun (GER) - Meerdünung (EG)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs S L Corcoran
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Maitre Levy has to be one of the best flat horses to go pointing in recent years, [if ever]. This seven-year-old son of Monsun was a useful performer in his native land when trained by Mario Hofer, and a measure of how good he was his victory in the Abu Dhabi-Cup (Listed) at Baden-Baden in August '02, when he beat Subiaco by ½length, who next-time-out was an excellent fourth behind Well Made in the 2002 Deutsche Post Euro Express-Preis von Europa (Group 1) at Köln. He joined Martin Pipe and was expected to develop into a useful novice, however failed to fire, however he has so much natural ability that it will be a shame if he isn´t able to win in this company.
bullet NOMINATE (GER)
b,g. Desert King - Northern Goddess
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: S Flook
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Nominate is very much in the same mould as City Secrets, who we've also added to this feature this week, in so far as you would normally associate a son of Desert King, rather than a career "between the flags". He certainly has a decent pedigree, being the son of Northern Goddess; (a daughter of the sire Night Shift), which makes Nominate a half-brother to Northern Quest, [a son of Rainbow Quest, who was a Graded winner in the USA], as well as a half-sister to Nortolixa, [a daughter of Linamįx who as well as winning on the flat in France, was also placed in Listed Company] and well as five other performers who have been placed in the UK, USA and South Africa. Unlike City Secrets, Nominate did run under rules for Paul Cole, however he was very disappointing after showing promise on his second start in a 11F maiden at Warwick in March '03, where he stayed on to finish third behind Strategy, [btn. 2¾Lengths] and was pulled up on his only attempt top date over obstacles in September '03. Its quite possible that Nominate is a "nomination" for the "leave-well-alone" list however he is only five and with only a few miles on the clock ... In the right hands, somebody might get out whatever potential may exist here... [a daunting task I do accept].
bullet NORTHERN PITCHER
b,g. Relief Pitcher - Columcille
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Lady Talbot Of Malahide
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Northern Pitcher is yet another newcomer to be added to this feature. This five-year-old appealed to me when I looked up his pedigree, as he is a son of the sire Relief Pitcher, out of the mare Columcille, [herself a daughter of St. Columbus], who won a couple of races over fences in the mid-nineties, when trained by Robert Alner. i am under no illusion that this means that Northern Pitcher will win races, however there is definite some promise/potential here to begin from and it could pay to monitor his performances over the coming months.
bullet TIN TRADER
b,g. Mister Lord (USA) - Ross Rag
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Peter Bonner
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Tin Trader is another one of the "complete unknown quantities" that I like to include in my horses-to-follow listings. This five-year-old son of Mister Lord (USA), is out of the mare Ross Rag; (a daughter of Ragapan), which makes Tin Trader, a full-brother to Mister Ross and Oh My Lord, both of who have won races under rules, as well as being a half-brother to Rossmay, who was placed under rules. Obviously this is not a guarantee that Tin Trader can win races, however its a useful premise to begin from and it'll be interesting to monitor how he performs in his first season racing

ӘÞOINT NOTEBOOK #06
Thursday, February 04, 2005.
Here are our list of horses who ran well at last week's Meetings, as well as some of the more interesting entries from this week's Meetings;

bullet CANADA
b,g. Ezzoud - Chancel (USA)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs Sally Rowe
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ One-time useful performer Canada, is arguably this week´s most interesting recruit. This seven-year-old s probably didn´t make it into the winners´ enclosure as many times as connections may have initially thought he would, however he is a useful performer on his day, as demonstrated by his victory in the Daniel Prenn Royal Yorkshire Rated Stakes [Class B] at York in June ´01, as well as his most recent victory, [his last run over obstacles], when winning a Class D handicap hurdle by 20lengths off of a mark of 125 in July ´03. He hasn´t raced since coming home eleventh behind Turbo in the November handicap in November ´03, however if Canada has retained a sizeable portion of this ability, this son of Ezzoud will be hard to beat if he takes to the larger obstacles.
bullet DĀPPLES
gr,m. Accordion - Aurore De Crystal (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: : B A Kilpatrick
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Dāpples is included in this feature purely by accident rather than design. I was searching for information on Merrimac, who has been included later on in this feature and discovered that Dapples was also going to be aimed at this discipline this season. This five-year-old daughter of Accordion has the most interesting of pedigrees, being a daughter of Accordion, out of the mare Aurore De Crystal, (a daughter of Crystal Palace). Aurore De Crystal is the most interesting part of her pedigree, as this mare has "mass-produced" winners in France including Aurocyos, [a son of Sicýos who won and was placed in Grade races in France, most notably the Prix Jean Bart Hurdle]; Apǻmee, [who won the Prix Finot
Hurdle (fillies) [Listed Race] at Auteuil], Aurorale, Jasmonde, and Kadoulka, as well as Ķaradal, Fleche de Crystal, Fabulous Princess and Sissi Impératrice, who were all placed either on the flat or over obstacles. It´s hard to ask for more without having even stepped on the racecourse, and it will be a disappointment if this five-year-old isn´t good enough to win a race, if not this season, then sometime in the future.
bullet EGBERT´S ARMY
b,g. Be My Native (USA) - Affordthe Queen
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: D K Everard
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Egbert´s Army is added to this list, however if I´m honest its more due to his pedigree that any form shown on the track. Egbert´s Army is a son of Be My Native, out of the mare Affordthe Queen, (a daughter of Pitpan), which makes him a half-brother to Queen of Spades, a winner six times over obstacles Spearhead Again a winner over fences and as well being placed in point-to-points, Heidiqueenofclubs who showed some ability under rules without success as well as being a full-sister to Wilke Thorpe who is winner of a point-to-point. With that sort of background, you probably would have expected some promise from when he raced in Ireland, however he´s shown nothing of any worth, until coming home third, a distance behind Kettysjame in a 6yo Maiden at Tattersalls Farm in April ´04 . You´d struggle to be enthusiastic if this form is a true measure of his worth, however as he´s only had three career starts, hopefully, [hopefully], he is still open to more improvement ... we´ll see if that is the case
bullet HEEZ A DREAMER
b,g. Naheez (USA) - Tuitestown
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Aiden Murphy
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Heez A Dreamer is a very interesting recruit as he is a five-year-old son of the American-bred sire Naheez , out of the mare Tuitestown, [a daughter f Orchestra], which makes Heez A Dreamer a half-brother to Classic Glory, Stay Still, Tuite´s Castle and Winter Surprise, who were all placed under rules, as well as Island Pride, a son of Shardari, who has won his last two races in Ireland, most recently a handicap chase at Punchestown two weeks ago. He definitely comes under the heading "interesting" and he is definitely one to watch out for during the remainder of the campaign.
bullet ĴAVELOT D´OR (FR)
br,g. Useful (FR) - Flika d´Or (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs B K Thomson
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Ĵavelot d´Or is an eight-year-old who is on a bit of a retrieval mission having been largely disappointing under rules since leaving Guillaume Macaire´s yard three seasons ago. He looked promising when landing four races in the French provinces, but he has clearly has had problems since, as he has only completed three times in eight attempted since winning in Dieppe in June ´01, however he did offer some hope when coming home third behind Bonfire Night in a Handicap at Towcester in May ´04, and if current connections can keep him sound, he does still have enough ability to make his presence felt at this level
bullet LOVE FOOL
b,g. Shambo - Island Beat
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: M C Pipe
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Although currently un-raced, Love Fool has a very interesting profile, being a son of Shambo, out of the mare Island Beat, (a daughter of Jupiter Island), which makes Love Fool a half-brother to Oneminutetofive, a very decent point-to-pointer with David Pipe a few season ago, who ran so creditably in last season´s Christie´s Foxhunter Chase Challenge Cup at the Cheltenham Festival, before tragically breaking a shoulder in his first race under rules at Stratford earlier this term. This five-year-old appears to have bundles of potential and hopefully will indicate this before the end of the season.
bullet MAGNỊOLIA (FR)
b,g. Our Account (USA) - Fatima III (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: S. P. Tindall
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Magnịolia is an another newcomer to be added to this feature. He is a five-year-old son of the American-bred sire Our Account out of the mare Fatima III, [a daughter of Bayolidaan (FR). after a lot of investigation, I established that this meant that Magnịolia is a half-brother to, Kashima, [a daughter of Kadalķo], who won three Cross-Country steeple´CHs. in France, most recently at Ploërmel in august ´04. If I´m honest I´m not sure what we have here, however I suspect Magnịolia has potential and he intrigues me enough to want to include this horse in this feature.
bullet MERRIMAC (FR)
b,g. Chamberlin (FR) - Goldfinette (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: D Pipe
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Merrimac is another interesting newcomer amongst this weekend's meetings. This five-year-old son of Chamberlin, out of the mare Goldfinette; (a daughter of Djarvis). Although Goldfinette herself didn´t race, she is most interesting as she is a daughter of Oland, who amongst other produced Valfinet, who was a decent performer for Martin Pipe, Bonapt, A winner in France and Highland II, who was in point-to points a few season ago. He definitely appeals on paper and it´ll interesting to see how he progresses this season.
bullet MINISTERFORMAYHEM
br,g. Oscar - Our Idol
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --:
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Ministerformayhem caught my eye amongst those horses who ran last weekend in Ireland. This five-year-old son of Oscar, is by the mare Our Idol, [A daughter of Mandalus], who is an own sister to that useful chaser Macgeorge. Ministerformayhem has only had the one start, at Carrigtwohill on 30/01/05 in a 5yo Geldings Maiden. After being held up initially he made smooth headway to lead three out, however he couldn't sustain that effort and eventually weakened to finish third; 18lengths behind the winner Sir Frederick. Ministerformayhem will come on for the experience and should hopefully go close before the end of the season.
bullet TEETON BABYSHAM
b,g. Shambo - Teeton Bubbley
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: A D Sansome
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ The cleverly-named Teeton Babysham could well be one to note during the remainder of the season. This five-year-old is a son of Shambo, out of the mare Teeton Bubbley, which means Teeton Babysham is related to numerous winning pointers/hunter chasers including Teeton Belle and Teeton Priceless. He makes plenty of appeal for this reason alone, and whilst it would be unreasonable to expect immediate success, Teeton Babysham is an ideal candidate for this feature, as we do in general tend to take a more long-term with our prospects
bullet TWO P´S
b,m. Petoskį - Pensun
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: R G Weaving
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Two P´s gets an invitation onto this feature. Two P´s is a six-year-old daughter of Petoskį, out of the mare Pensun, [a daughter of Jimsum], Which make Two P´s a half-sister to Penlet and Penlet Too, both of who have won/run creditably in point-to-points/Hunter steeple´CHs. Two P´s may not be a world-beater, actually I see her as a long-term prospect, however I won´t be surprised to see that she's shown some promise, by the end of the season.

ӘÞOINT NOTEBOOK #05
Thursday, January 27, 2005.
Here are our list of horses who ran well at last week's Meetings, as well as some of the more interesting entries from this week's Meetings;

bullet DARNIĻ
br,g. Grand Plaisir - Art Lover
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: David Rogers
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Darniļ is the first of a couple of ex-Irish recruits that we've included in this week´s list. Darniļ is a seven-year-old by Grand Plaisir, out of the mare Art Lover, [a daughter of Over The River (FR)]. Darniļ had four runs in Ireland last season. He was an encouraging fourth behind Icy Belle in an Adjacent Maiden at Skibbereen on 29/02/04, before making no mistake next-time-out a month later to land a Adjacent Hunt Race at Bandon, beating Canon Keane by 2lengths. He then made two quick appearance in April '04 in "Winner Of One" races at Dromohane and Inch, and whilst not adding to his tally, did run well in the first of these at Dromohane staying on to finish second, 10lengths behind the winner Native Coral. Connection at least know that Darniļ has a glimmer of ability and if he improves this term after those quick races , could well be capable of landing a another race in the UK this season.
bullet DE WET
b,g. Lord Americo - Ballyfroary Lady
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --:
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ We thought that we may try and include a few horses from the Irish pointing scene this season. The first of these being de Wet, a five-year-old son of Lord Americo, out of the mare Ballyfroary Lady, [a daughter of Pollerton], which makes him a half-brother to Lord Cebellino who is unbeaten having won his only point-to-point, as well as a bumper race at Cork in December ´04. de Wet has had two runs to date, falling at the last, having made a lot of the running on his debut at Maralin in April ´05, before coming out last weekend on the 22/01/05 at Comber in the 5 & 6-y-o Geldings Maiden and again making a prominent showing, this time making a lot of the running before weakening after the second last, eventually coming home third, 19lengths behind the winner Sound Advice. I thought that this was another promising effort and he does give the impression that a win in maiden will not be out of the question as he physically improves/gains experience.
bullet EGG SHELLS
b,g. Polish Precedent (USA) - Plume Magique
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: David M Easterby
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Egg Shells is the first of this weeks debutantes that we´ll be adding to this feature. This five-year-old son of Polish Precedent, is out of the mare Plume Magique [a daughter of Kenmare (FR)], which makes Eggs Shell a half-brother to Kuwait Flavour and Magic Feathers, who were both placed on the flat. Egg Shells does appear to have a flat pedigree, so it´ll be interesting to see how he fares in this discipline.
bullet FIGHTING CHANCE
b,g. Germany (USA) - Una Juna
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Peter Bonner
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ I´m very surprised to see a horse with the profile/pedigree of Fighting Chance being entered up in this weeks meeting rather than in a Maiden Hurdles under rules, however their loss in pointing´s gain . Fighting Chance is impeccably-bred being a son of the sire Germany, out of a mare Una Juna, [a daughter Good Thyne (USA)], which makes Fighting Chance a half-brother to War of Attrition, a useful novice hurdler last term, who was second behind Brave Inca in the Letheby & Christopher Supreme Novices´ Hurdle at last season´s Cheltenham Festival. Fighting Chance has had one career run to date and it was an eye-catching debut against more experienced rivals at Newbury in March ´04, where he was held up before making steady headway in the last mile to finish third behind River Trapper [btn. 5¾lengths]. Clearly Fighting Chance will be going back under rules at some stage, however I hope it´ll be with a couple of success between the flags under his name.
bullet FRUIT DÉFENDU (FR)
b,g. Exit To Nowhere (USA) - Pauvresse (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: George W Baker
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Fruit Defundu has never quite fulfilled the promise believed of him when he came from France four seasons ago, and when you consider that he was a useful handicapper in France on the flat, and was considered good enough by Noel Meade to take his chance in the Champion Four Year Old Hurdle (Grade 1) at Fairyhouse in April ´01, its bitterly disappointing to see him plying his trade in selling company. Paul Nicholls wasn´t able to get a win out of him, however he does travel well in his races and if he takes to the larger obstacle could be interesting and he was only recently rated in the mid-90s.
bullet GUNGÁDÛ
ch,g. Beneficial - Tšarella
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: P K Barber
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Gungádû is another runner currently plying his trade in Ireland that we will be monitoring this season, however in his case, it is most definitely with a mind to including him in our ONE TO JUMP ´06 feature. This five-year-old is impeccably bred, being a son of Beneficial, out of the mare Tšarella (a daughter of Mummy´s Pet) , which makes Gungádû a half-brother to amongst other Mulligan Express and Alexander Nevský both of whom have been successful under rules, as well as being from the same family as The Tšarevich - a very useful chaser in the mid-seventies. Gungádû was already the winner last term of a maiden race at Áthlacca in March ´04, however he couldn´t have made a more impressive return to the racecourse last weekend on the 23/01/05 in the "Winners of One" race at Dungarvan travelling well throughout before taking it up four from home, steadily pulling clear before beating Ballinclamper Boy by 20lengths.He clearly has a future, probably under rules, and it´ll be interesting to see how he does during the remainder of the season.
bullet JUMBUL SALE
bl,g. Sula Bula - Confused Express
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Charles Dixey
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Jumbul Sale is another newcomer due to make his debut in points shortly. This six-year-old is a son of Sula Bula, out of the mare Confused Express (a daughter of the sire Confused), which means that Jumbul Sale is distantly related to several winners including Tharus O´Riley, who won hunter chases in the mid-eighties. I have no got any high expectations for him, however he is appeals on pedigree and I´ll be interested to see how he gets on this winter.
bullet MISS BRIGHTWELLS
ch,m. Accordion - Oh So Bright
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: E C Everall
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Miss Brightwells was another débutant to catch my eye. This five-year-old is a daughter of Accordion, out of the mare Oh So Bright, [a daughter of Celtic Cone], who won four races under rules when trained by Oliver Sherwood in the mid-nineties. Miss Brightwells ticks all the boxes on paper anyway and it'll be interesting to see how she performs during the current campaign.
bullet MISSỸL (FR)
gr,g. Great Palm (USA) - Elite Dacadour (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: H Wellstead
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ I've added Missỹl to the əPOINT notebook. This five-year-old is a son of Great Palm (USA) out of the mare Elite Dacadour, (a daughter of Sarpedon), who raced in France during the Eighties. Missỹl has an interesting pedigree and hails from a yard that will ensure that he is well prepared, and also allowed the time to find himself. Missỹl strikes me as the sort of horse that will show a gradual curve of improvement as he gains experience... Hopefully he´ll land a maiden before the end of the season.
bullet ROCKSWOOD CLOVER
ch,g. Alflora - Dipped In Clover
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: S P Tindall
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Rockswood Clover joins the list this week, This five-year-old caught the eye after doing a bit of investigation, as I noted that he is a son of Alflora, out of the mare Dipped In Clover, who is a daughter of Golden Dipper, which makes Rockswood Clover a half-brother to Highfields´ Clover who has also been added to this feature after showing some promise in Maiden company last season. Rockswood Clover is un-raced but makes plenty of appeal and whilst you should not be under any illusion that he is a "ready-made" winner, is certainly one of the entries who I´ll be hoping makes it onto the winners table this season.
bullet SECRETOFSHAMBHALA
b,g. Alphabatim (USA) - Take A Guess
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --:
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Secretofshambhala is the third runners this week who ran last weekend in Ireland. This six-year-old is a son of Alphabatim (USA), out of the mare Take A Guess, [a daughter of Carlingford Castle], which makes Secretofshambhala a full-brother to Legatüs, a winner of point-to-points in the UK, who has placed over obstacles for Martin Pipe during the last two seasons. Secretofshambhala has had two runs to date, coming home a promising third to Mount Leitrim in a 5-y-o Geldings Maiden at Templemore in October ´04, [btn. 22lengths], before his run last weekend on the 23/01/05 in the "6yo Geldings Maiden" race at Dungarvan. On this occasion Secretofshambhala was held up, before making headway to challenge for the lead five out. Battle had commenced and everything was to play for when upsides eventual winner River Ripple, when he made a mistake and came down at the second last. Its impossible to state what may have occurred , however there isn´t much doubt that this was an improved effort, and he will not have to improve much to be capable of winning a similar event before the end of the season.
bullet SEIZE THE MOMENT
b,g. Eve´s Error - Wolverham
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs C M Brown
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Seize The Moment is a very interesting recruit. This six-year-old is a son of Eve´s Error, out of the mare Wolverham, (a daughter of Wolver Hollow), which makes Seize The Moment, a half-brother to John Naman, [a winner of three races under rules], as well as Bassini a winner five times in Sweden & Denmark. Seize The Moment has had five runs in points in Ireland pulling up on his debut at Áthlacca in April ´03, before failing to get round in three subsequent attempts at Boulta, Kinsale and Dromahane. He only ran once last term in a 5-y-o Maiden at Askeaton in January ´04, and completed the course for the first time, weakening two out to finish second behind Tarquin Bey, [btn. 20 lengths]. Whilst it is fair to say Seize The Moment will need to improve to be competitive, we do at least now know that he possessed some ability and it may be that this six-year-old might be finally coming to hand ... we shall see...

ӘÞOINT NOTEBOOK #04
Thursday, January 20, 2005.
Here are our list of horses who ran well at last week's Meetings, as well as some of the more interesting entries from this week's Meetings;

bullet AIN TEÇBALET (FR)
b,g. Riverquest (FR) - La Chance Au Roy (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Countess Cathcart
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Ain Teçbalet is added to this list, even though he was a disappointing horse under rules last term. This former inmate of Guillaume Macaire had shown a little promise over fences during the 2002/3 campaign, winning a chase at Meslay Dù Maine. He subsequently joined Nicky Henderson´s yard and managed to finish in the frame on four occasions, seeming to appreciate stepping up in trip, however he didn´t manage a win and disappointed on his last three starts, the most recent being when failing to complete in the Betdaq Highland National (A Handicap Chase) (for the Julian Llewellen Palmer Memorial Trophy) at Perth in April ´04. Despite this, he is a 100-rated chaser, who may appreciate the drop in grade. As long as he is realistically placed, he is capable of winning... Let´s see if he manages to
bullet BARABBĂS (USA)
b,g. Royal Academy (USA) - Kåsmi (USA)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Philip Newton
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ I´ll be disappointed if Barabbăs doesn´t win a race this season. This six-year-old certainly catches the eye on breeding being a son of Royal Academy, out of the mare Kåmsi; a daughter of the Canadian sire Afleet. He looks on paper as though a career on the flat may have been the plan, however Barabbăs was so big and backward that he didn´t appear until running in a bumper at Wincanton in November ´03, where he stayed on nicely in the last furlong to finish second behind Blue Romance, [btn. 1length]. He disappointed on his only other racecourse appearance, again at Wincanton in February ´04, however it was evident that he needed more time, and now that has been given to him, I´d hope that he finally begins to fulfill some of the potential that is so evidently there.
bullet BRONSON F´SURE
b,g. Overbury - T´Be Sure
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: R Jukes
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ With so many of our entries from this feature having run well last weekend, Bronson F´Sure is the only horse to have run at last weekend's meeting that has made it into this list. This six-year-old lined up in Division Two of the P.P.O.R.A. Club Members Maiden on Day One of Barbury Castle two-day meeting on 15/01/05. After having been held up initially, this son of Overbury made smooth progress from about halfway to have every chance approaching two out. Whilst not having the gears of the eventual winner Deep Pockets, [who beat him by 6lengths], Bronson F´Sure did come well clear of the remainder, and whilst the time of the race was on the slow side, this was an effort to build on and this six-year-old may well be capable of winning a similar race before the end of the season
bullet CRACKADEE
br,g. Alflora - Carnetto
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Miss Rhona Brewis
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Crackadee is the first of several newcomers we'll be adding this week. This six-year-old is a son of Alflora, out of the mare Carnetto, (who is a daughter of Le Coq d´Or), which makes Crackadee a half-brother to Conchita, (who won two bumpers during the 2002/3 campaign). Crackadee looks interesting on paper, and looks the type of horse that should improve as he gains experience this season.
bullet DAYENOO (FR)
b,g. Subotica (FR) - La Cenomane (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Lord Daresbury
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Dayenoo could one to note in Maiden company over the coming weeks. This five-year-old is a son of Subotica, out of the mare La Cenomane, (a daughter of Master Thatch, who won up to 1m4f in France), which make Dayenoo a half-brother to several winners on Flat in France. He ran four times under rules last term, arguably running his best race on his debut in a bumper at Carlisle in March ´04, where he stayed on to finish second behind Neìdpath Castle, [btn. 3lengths]. He appears to regressed subsequently, however its quite possible that he took more out of himself on his debut than might have been initially clear and therefore having had a summer on his back, might be a more potent proposition this time around, [although he needs to learn to settle in his races].
bullet FLORITCĤEL (FR)
b,g. Dark Stone (FR) - Aktia (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: F. V. White
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Floritcĥel is another to have caught my eye amongst the "new arrivals" this week. Formerly owned by Sue Bramall, but trained in France, this eight-year-old only races four time in France and hasn´t race since coming home fourth behind Hurdle, [a more resolute version, not the rather moody horse that is currently racing over here] in the Prix Chamberko at Rochefort-Sur-Loire in August ´02, [btn. 16lengths]. Although he initially has little to recommend him, he is a full-brother to Art Stones, [a winner over obstacles in Ireland], as well as being a half-brother to Amandela, who won races over hurdlers in France. He´s a "unknown quantity" ... but an interesting one who may progress enough to win a race in this sphere this season.
bullet GET OFF MY CLOUD
b,g. Grand Plaisir - White Beau
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Christopher Hall
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Get Off My Cloud caught my attention amongst this weekend's meetings. This six-year-old has joined present connection, after having raced twice in Ireland last term. He made an inauspicious start to his career in a 5yo Geldings Maiden at Liscarroll in March in March ´04, when running on early on. He was given a chance to atone for this lapse of concentration six days later in a 5yo Maiden at Áthlacca. This time he made no mistake, staying on from a long way back to beat Surprise Adventure by ½length. With there being so little mileage on the clock, this son of Grand Plaisir should still be open to further improvement. Quite what his form amounts to isn´t clear, however he offers hope for the future, and those types of credentials tend to find this features winners... Lets hope he adds to this tally this season.
bullet HANGAMASTERPIECE
b,m. Master Willie - Dunnohalm
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: V. Thompson
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Hangamasterpiece is another import that could make an impact. This six-year-old has joined present connections having run creditably in seven starts, hinting at having some ability when coming home second in a 4&5yo Mares Maiden at Dungourney in November '03, before occupying the same position at Dromoland a month later, when this daughter of Master Willie led at the last, but failed to withhold the final thrust of For Òrla, eventually going down by 2½lengths. She had one more start in a 5yo+ Mares Maiden at Eyrecourt in May '04 and this time made no mistake, picking up from two out to win by 25lengths. She could be anything, however she was improving and may be good enough to win races, particularly the Mares' only series.
bullet IT MATTERS
b,g. Vague Shot - Wild Abandon (USA)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs P. King
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ It Matters is due to make his debut shortly. This five-year-old is a son of Vague Shot out of the mare Wild Abandon, [a daughter of Graustark], which makes It Matters a half-brother to Astronaut and Sweet Ciseaux, both of whom are winners on the flat, as well as over obstacles. He appeals to me and I´ll be interested to see how he fares in Maiden company.
bullet KALI DES OBEAUX (FR)
b,m. Panoramic - Alpaga (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: R W J Willcox
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Kali Des Obeaux could be one to note in Open races this season. This seven-year-old came to these shores with a good reputation forged as a result of three victories over fences in France. He subsequently joined Lydia Taylor's yard, and whilst she ran creditably, this daughter of Panoramic failed to add to her tally. She hasn´t raced since finishing fourth behind Hi Rudolf at Plumpton in May '04, [btn. 5¾lengths], however this 100-rated mare still has plenty to offer and is capable of winning races if she is realistically placed.
bullet KŖYSTAL (FR)
b,g. Kadalķo (FR) - Attualita (FR)
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: S N Wilshire
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Kŗystal has joined present connections having shown some promise when trained by François Doumen in France. This seven-year-old has demonstrated that he possesses ability, most recently when coming home second behind Kessel Deurie in the Prix Mongarault at Argentan in November ´03 and hasn´t raced since coming home fifth behind Kapuncine Collenges in the Prix d´Urt Steeple´CH. at Pau in January ´04. This son of Kadalķo is no world-beater, however he may appreciate the level of competition he will come up against and may well be capable of "landing the spoils" before the end of the season
bullet LAMBHILL STAKES
gr,g. King's Ride - Summerhill Express
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: David M Easterby
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Lambhill Stakes is an interesting recruit to pointing. This former inmate of Malcolm Jefferson has shown that he has ability under rules having been placed three times over hurdles, though had become disappointing and hasn´t raced since coming home fifth behind Bill's Echo in a novice chase at Bangor-On-Dee in April '04, [btn. 21lengths]. Despite this concern this seven-year-old son of King's Ride was rated 95 over fences, which is more than good enough for him to win a maiden race at some stage this winter.
bullet MAYS DELIGHT
b,m. Glacial Storm (USA) - Lady Pauper
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Adam Waugh
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Mays Delight is arguably one of the best recruits from Ireland entered to race over the weekend. This eight-year-old is a daughter of Glacial Storm, out of the mare Lady Pauper, (who is a daughter of Le Moss), which makes her a full-sister to Lockhard, and half-sister to Boyackasha, both of whom were successful in Irish point-to-points. Mays Delight ran twelve times in Ireland, and had by far her most productive season to date last season, running eights times winning on three occasions at Knockanard and Cloyne, before landing the Gain Mares Final at Ballynoe in April '04, where she stayed on strongly to beat Thecornerbar by ½length. She made one more appearance in an Open race at Dromohane two weeks later and stayed on creditably to finish only 17lengths behind the winner Artic Times. That was probably her best run to date and if she remains on that upward curve could do well over here, particularly if given the opportunity to run in Mares-only races.
bullet MITCHEL ST. EXPRESS
b,g. Jolly Jake (NZ) - Ardnasagh Rose
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs S Lindley
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ We are taking a bit of a chance adding Michel St. Express to this feature. This seven-year-old is interestingly bred, being a son of Jolly Jake, out of the mare Ardnasagh Rose (who is a daughter of Crash Course), which makes Michel St. Express a half-brother to Beauanarrow (a winner twice under rules), though face-value has little to recommend him having run seven times in Irish points without success, and on six occasions never really threatening to land a blow. Apart from his breeding, Michel St. Express is given his birth because of his final start, in a 6yo Maiden at Wexford in May '04. On this occasion, for the first time, he was sent off in front, and led until 3 out before weakening out of contention, eventually finally a distance behind the winner Swallow Magic. A lot of improvement is required, however it was the first glimmer of hope that he wasn´t a lost cause and if the penny actually drops who knows, he might pop up in a maiden at a nice price .. Here's hoping!!!.
bullet STALBRIDGEMILENIUM
b,m. El Conquistador - Abridged
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs Teresa Dufosee
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Stalbridgemilenium is another well-bred newcomer, that we've added to the ӘPOINT Notebook this week. This five-year-old is a daughter of El Conquistador, out of the mare Abridged, (who is a daughter of Nearly A Hand), which makes Stalbridgemilenium a full-sister to Stalbridge Bill, a winner between the flags, as well being successful in three Hunter Chases. She offers this feature bags full of potential on breeding and is exactly the type of newcomer we love to include in a Horses-To-Follow listing.
bullet TEETON CHIMES
b,m. Shambo - Wedding Song
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs Joan Tice
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Teeton Chimes is another un-raced animal that I believe is worth a place in this feature. Teeton Chimes is a daughter of Shambo, out of the mare Wedding Song, [a daughter of True Song], which makes this six-year-old a half-sister to multi-winning pointer/hunter chaser Mullensgrove... She´s bred for this discipline and will hopefully show some promise before the end of this season.
bullet THE BIG BREAKFAST
b,g. Rashar (USA) - A-Okay
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Mrs M Stirk
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ I noted that The Big Breakfast figures amongst the entries for the Restricted race at the West Percy Hunt Meeting at Alnwick this weekend. Not being familiar with this him, my quest for knowledge began!!. I was surprised to learn that The Big Breakfast was an un-raced five-year-old son of Rashar, out of the mare A-Okay, (who is a daughter of Roselier), which as a result intrigued me as to why he was this entry, rather than a spin in a maiden. This isn't a recommendation for you to go mad on Sunday, however its quite probable that he is pleasing connections, therefore he is possibly one to note for signs of promise over the coming season.
bullet ZEŞTA FIESTA
b,g. El Conquistador - Little Lemon
¦¨¨trainer/owner¨¨¦ --: Lord Daresbury
¦¨¨”Į¨ÞOĮNTӘЯ”¨¨¦ :→ Zeşta Fiesta offer a little more hope than may initially appear. This five-year-old has the right type of pedigree, being a daughter El Conquistador out of the mare Little Lemon, [a daughter of Spartan Jester), who won races between the flags as well as a Hunter Chase at Newton Abbott in the Mid-Nineties. Zeşta Fiesta has had one run to date, in a bumper at Sedgefield in October '04, where he was always behind before coming home tenth, 54lengths behind the winner Blue Buster. The form nothing to write home about, however his pedigree is attractive and he does give offer hope that he might be capable of building of this form over the coming weeks.
