Either over jumps or on the flat, The "Furlong To Go Triumvirate" of The Rook, The Flatman, and Christopher Iles  attempt to  point out horses, who it may pay to follow during the season.

A-Z of Horses

ONE TO JUMP 2003
Wednesday, 27 March 2002
As it's nearly the end of the season, my eye is already on compiling the next list of horses to follow over obstacles So, for the remainder of the season, and early next term... I'm be placing horses onto this list in the hope that they do enough to hopefully graduate up onto One to Jump 2003 List in October.

GREEN PRAIRIES (SWE)
Currently trained by ¬>Norman B. Mason
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 27.03.2002
Comments¬> The Mason / Guest combination have been looking far and wide for winners recently. It'll be interesting to see how this six-year-old son of Prairie fares. He is the winner of seven of his thirty-two starts when he was campaigned in Scandinavia, and most recently in Spain. He hasn't been out since finishing second over one and a half miles at Mijas. He is a slightly risky entry as the likelihood is that he will be given time to learn his craft, therefore there is a chance that he may not win for a while.

COTTON SOCKS (FR)
Currently trained by ¬>Ginny Elliott
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 27.03.2002
Comments¬> Ginny Elliott appears to have a promising young pointer in the shape of Cotton Socks; A six-year-old by the sire Houmayoun. He was given a confident ride by Julian Pritchard on his debut at Garthorpe on the 10th of March to win as he liked. Held up initially at the back of the field, Cotton Socks made smooth headway with four fences to go. He sustained this effort to lead two out to eventually win going away by 10 lengths. Further improvement is literally guaranteed and I wouldn't be surprised if he develops into one of the better young pointers by the end of the season.

BENRAJAH
Currently trained by ¬>Henry Daly
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 27.03.2002
Comments¬> Although eventually well-beaten by the eventual winner Tollbrae, there was a lot to like about the way Benrajah stayed on to finish well clear of the third on his racecourse debut at Hereford. He should be capable to taking a similar event before going on to better things next season.

LAD DI LAH LAD
Currently trained by ¬>Jimmy Tarry
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 27.03.2002
Comments¬> Lad Di Lah Lad could be one to keep an eye out for in a maiden. Jim Tarry's eight-year-old made his racecourse debut at Newton Bromswold on the 9th of March. He was given a "quiet" introduction staying competitive until the twelfth obstacle before being pulled up before the next obstacle. Assuming that this was not due to an injury, it wouldn't be the best surprise if he improved significantly on this effort.

OWL VULGAN
Currently trained by ¬>Richard Bambridge
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 27.03.2002
Comments¬> Owl Vulgan is another to watch out for in Maidens. This ex-Irish maiden showed a little in bumpers and hurdles when trained by M Halford. He has pleased connections at home, so should be up to winning a maiden

SILVER DANCER
Currently trained by ¬>Mark Rimell
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 27.03.2002
Comments¬> Whilst paying a visit to Siddington Point-To-Point I noted how well Silver Dancer appeared to be travelling when falling at the eleventh obstacle. A quick flick through the results showed that this was the second time that this individual had capsized when travelling well in a race and if his jumping can be ironed out, he is assured at the very least to be up to taking a maiden before the end of the season.

KICK FOR TOUCH
Currently trained by ¬>Henrietta Knight
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 27.03.2002
Comments¬> Highly touted point-to-pointer in Ireland made a disappointing debut in this country, whipping round at the start before making rapid progress to be prominent until 3 out. He was eventually beaten 30 lengths but gave every impression to be best rated much close than that and deserves the benefit of the doubt.

BRAEBURN
Currently trained by ¬>Nicky Henderson
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 27.03.2002
Comments¬> During an unusually (for me anyway) visit to Ludlow I was fortunate enough to witness this horse's debut under rules. Braeburn was given the perfect introduction; taken around the outside so that he had plenty of opportunity to see his fences. Braeburn jumped economically but just lacked the pace of the winner Famfoni. I wouldn't be certain that conditions suited that day (it literally sheeted down for the whole meeting) so don't be to surprised if this horse doesn't make an appearance on much better ground during the remainder of the season.

CYBORG DE SOU (FR)
Currently trained by ¬>Jeremy Maxwell in Ireland
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 27.03.2002
Comments¬> Although he eventually was beaten over a distance, Cyborg De Sou did enough on his debut in a Downpatrick bumper to suggest that he could take a similar event. He brought about his own downfall pulling far too hard for his head for the first 9 furlongs of the race. It therefore wasn't a great surprise that when asked for a final effort he failed to respond. To conclude, it'll be interesting to see how he fares next time.

CHANTICLIER
Currently trained by ¬>Kim Bailey
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 27.03.2002
Comments¬> Although No Shenanigans duly won on his debut at Sandown. There was plenty to like about the manner in which Chanticlier stayed on up the straight to eventually make the hot favourite pull up all the stops. On this evidence, whether it be this season or next, Chanticlier should be capable of taking a similar event

ARGENTINEAN EXPERIMENT
I was fascinated to see how Jim Old's gets on with his South American purchases... As Polish purchases Cobbet, Galileo, and Corletto have proved, never mind the steady stream of winners from Italy and German over the last couple of seasons it can pay to keep an eye on untapped markets. I'm going to therefore place all of Jim Old's purchases on this list and see how they get on;

EXODOUS (ARG)
Currently trained by ¬> Jim Old
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 28.01.2002
Comments¬> Paul Webber's and Jim Old's quest to find cheap(er) bloodstock to go jumping has found them some interesting talent from South America; including Exodous, an attractive six year old son of the american sire Equalise. Searches through the Argentinean formbooks enabled me to establish that Exodous was fairly decent when trained over there. In 2000, he was third in the Miguel A. Martínez de Hoz (Gr.2), second in the GP Otoño (Gr.2), GP Vicente L. Casares (Gr.2), GP De Honor (Gr.1) and GP República Argentina (Gr. 1) , and the winner of the Mineral (Listed race). Last year he runs included a good third in the GP Comparación (Gr.1). He ran on all types of surface and it's surprising that he wasn't snapped up to race in the USA. It'll be interesting to see how he gets on when he is run on.. Though it's a pity that he hasn't gone to a stable in better form than Jim Old is, so this is a giant coming out of the wilderness, so he will always be an attractive price
Updates¬> 23.03.2002 - Well beaten so far in two runs, but as the yard is out of form I'll give him the benefit of the doubt

DON FITZ (ARG)
Currently trained by ¬>Jim A B Old
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 27.03.2002
Comments¬>Don Fitz in another Argentinean-bred gelding to watch out for during the remainder of the season. He was purchased twelve months ago, having in 2000, finished third in the GP San Isidro {Gr.1} before winning the Gran Premio Palermo {Gr.1}.In 2001 he was third in the GP Horacio Bustillo {Gr.3}. As is the case with many of the runners from this continent, stamina will have to be proven, but if he has retained some of his ability ... who knows

IMPORTANT BOY (ARG)
Currently trained by ¬>Jim A B Old
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 27.03.2002
Comments¬> Important Boy is a five year old by the sire Equalise, who clearly has some ability to have been placed in the GP Guillermo Kemmis {Gr.3}, however as that was over 1000m, his ability to stay has to be taken on trust
Updates¬>

EXPLOSILLON (ARG)
Currently trained by ¬>Jim A B Old
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 27.03.2002
Comments¬> If any of these makes the grade, then it could be Explosillon. This seven year old was the winner of the GP General Pueyrredón {Gr.1} over 3000m in September 2000 ... he could appreciate a distance of ground over hurdle.
Updates¬>

DON IDO (ARG)
Currently trained by ¬>Jim A B Old
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 27.03.2002
Comments¬> Don Ido probably boasts the worst form of he Argentinean horses purchased by Paul Webber & Jim Old, however this handicapper may be better suited to this discipline ... time will tell

COWBOYBOOTS
Currently trained by ¬>L Wells
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 16.02.2002
Comments¬> Cowboyboots ran with full of promise staying on strongly in the straight to finish a highly creditable fifth to Mind How You Go in Warwick's bumper on 16.02.2002. Only marginal impression will be required to take a similar event
Updates¬>
23.03.2002 - Has finished twice in the frame after this initial good effort .. gives the impression that he'll be better off going over hurdles... in two minds what to do with him, though there is a good chance that he'll go novice hurdling during the early part of the 2003 season so i'm inclined to persevere with him

THE DUCKPOND
Currently trained by ¬>Jim Old
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 16.02.2002
Comments¬> The Duckpond caught the eye at Sandown on 15.02.2002, in their bumper. In rear, initially, Jim Old's gelding was hampered five furlongs out when beginning his challenge. Although I doubt he'd have beaten the winner, he did stay on steadily, to finish a honourable fourth. Hopefully he can find an event before the end of the season, but should make up into a lovely hurdler next term
Updates¬>

HARROVIAN
Currently trained by ¬>Ferdy Murphy
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 16.02.2002
Comments¬> Harrovian will have gone into several notebooks after almost beating Iris's Gift in the bumper at Newbury on Tote Gold Trophy day. Given the perfect introduction, Harrovian make smooth headway through the field to challenge for the lead inside the distance. Lack of experience [and a bit of argy-bargy] told…. There is no reason why he shouldn't win a bumper before the end of the season

RUTLEDGE RED
Currently trained by ¬>Malcolm J Jefferson
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 10.02.2002
Comments¬> Rutledge Red improved on his debut effort to run a great race behind Man Murphy at Catterick on 31.01.02. He jumped economically and was the only horse to ruffle Mary Reverley's useful novice, finishing 18lengths clear of the third. This effort was good enough to take an ordinary novice hurdle next time out.
Updates¬>

SIKI (FR)
Currently trained by ¬>Guillame Macaire in France
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 10.02.2002
Comments¬> We have become used to the exploits of Guillame Macaire runners over jumps. Well he has a decent record in bumpers (well the equivalent of them anyway) in France. With that in mind it'll be interesting to see how Siki a son of Royal Charter fares if he takes out any of his entries in bumpers over the next month or so
Updates¬>

EGYPT
Currently trained by ¬>Kathy Marks
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 10.02.2002
Comments¬> Egypt was another horse to improve on his debut effort at Catterick on 31.01.02. He made smooth headway three out to lead turning for home before weakening out of the places. That was a marked improvement on anything he'd shown and he may be good enough to take an ordinary novices hcap hurdle.
Updates¬>23.03.2002 - Saw him run at Ludlow two days ago .. I know he won on the heavy on the level but he looks likes he's crying out for better ground .... may put him "on hold" if connections keep running him under these conditions

PETER'S TWO FUN (FR)
Currently trained by ¬>Paul Nicholls
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 10.02.2002
Comments¬> Peter's Two Fun went off at a good clip on his British debut, boasting place form in France. He weakened out of the money turning for home, but still ran well enough to be interesting once he obtains a handicap mark … more patient tactics may well suit him
Updates¬>
23.03.2002 -  Frankly very disappointing ... I'll give him one more chance, in the hope that he runs in a seller, but he's likely for the chop!!!

GLUCOSE (FR)
Currently trained by ¬>Francois Doumen
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 10.02.2002
Comments¬> Glucose ran an encouraging race in the novice hurdle on Newbury's Tote Gold Trophy card. He travelled really smoothly throughout, and looked menacing turning for home, however he weakened after two out eventually finishing in sixth. That's as good a performance as he's put up so far, and whilst he'll go onto better things back in France, he may be worth noting if he given an opportunity to race over here on better ground - which I believe he needs.
Updates¬>23.03.2002 -  I'm deleting him, only because he's not likely to come to Britain for the remainder of the season but I'm be keeping an eye on him with ONE TO JUMP 2003 in mind!!!

BLACK OPTIMIST
Currently trained by ¬>Mark Bradstock
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 10.02.2002
Comments¬> Black Optimist gave plenty of encouragement for the future, with a battling effort on his British debut at Fontwell on 04.02.02. He made the majority of the running and jumped really well out of the sticky ground. He was challenged repeatedly up the final straight, and only gave best to the winner Glacial Enterprise in the shadow of the post. That was his first race for a while as I know he won an irish point to point two years ago before joining the yard. A repeat of this effort would be good enough to take a similar event.
Updates¬>23.03.2002 - He didn't run too badly in the 4mile Chase at Cheltenham .. should be capable of taking an ordinary novice chase

CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL ENTRIES
I've been rummaging through the list of hopefuls for the novice vents at Cheltenham, and have found some useful performers trying their hand at hurdling. It may be a little late for them to make an impact in time for cheltenham, however they may be worth noting for the future as connections may be now considering whether to preserve his novice status, until next season.

CHOPNEYEV (FR)
Currently trained by ¬>  Richard Phillips
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   Connections considered that Chopneyev was good enough take on Maille Pistol in the Prix Hocquart (Gr. 2) at Longchamp in May 2001. He was put in his place by the winner and Sagacity, who went on to be placed in the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe, so Chopneyev clearly possesses some ability. He could be one to bear in mind for much later on in the season
Updates¬> 23.03.2002 -  Highly promising debut at Hereford this week (I was there). Lack on match practice told .. there'll be other days..

THALYS (GER)
Currently trained by ¬>  Ms Heather Dalton
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   Thalys an attractive black son of Gold and Ivory certainly appealed to John Hales who has snapped him up. I can't find any form for him, however he will be one to bear in mind for next season's ONE TO JUMP List if he runs well this term.
Updates¬>  10.02.2002 - Ran very freely on his debut at Market Rasen, however clearly has potential.

CLOUDY SKY
Currently trained by ¬>  Nicky Henderson
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   Cloudy Sky, who hasn't raced since finishing in mid division in the 1999 running of the Godolphin Stakes (Class A) (Listed Race), clearly developed a leg, but it is interesting that connections are persevering with him. Cloudy Sky hails from a good middle-distance family and could be very interesting if he retained any of that potential … it will be interesting to see what connections do with him.
Updates¬>

EPERVIER D´OR (FR)
Currently trained by ¬>  Nicky Henderson
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   Epervier D´Or gets into this list, having chased home Tempo D'Or in a novice hurdle at Enghien in November 2001. I saw that race, and whilst I'm not certain he'd beat Guillame Macaire's runner in the future, a repeat of that run will be good enough to take an ordinary event
Updates¬>

DALAMPOUR
Currently trained by ¬>  Ted Walsh in Ireland
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   When Dalampour won the 2000 Queen's Vase, it wasn't difficult to imagine this smart performer would possible develop into a really useful stayer. Its fair to say though that Dalampour completely lost he plot becoming a nightmare ride completely refusing to settle, and more often than not carting in his races, meaning than he was usually running on empty in the final quarter. I have always had time for him though, and I must admire that I am happy to know that he ended up with Ted Walsh, rather than plying his craft on the continent. He could be very useful if connections have calmed him … the acid test will be when he gets back onto the racecourse
Updates¬>
23.03.2002 - A good second on his hurdles debut ... He looks as though there is hope for him yet!!

TEREK (GER)
Currently trained by ¬>  Richard Phillips
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   Whilst I don't think he possesses the potential of Bernardon (already on this list), Terek, the winner of the 1999 running of the Preis der Deutschen Einheit-der Berliner Sparkasse (Gr. 3) certainly has shown enough to suggest that this son of Irish River can be placed to win over obstacles in this country
Updates¬> 23.03.2002 - Didnt do anything wrong on his hurdles debut, though gave the impression that he didn't get home ... His next run, when he should be straighter will be more enlightening

SAMSAAM
Currently trained by ¬>  Martin Pipe
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   Former useful stayer Samsaam is another one who warrants the "could be anything" tag, as this useful stayer embarks on a hurdling career. He steadily progressed throughout the 2000 season; winning three handicaps with ease, finishing a respectable third to Dalampour in the Queen's Vase. He capped this season by taking the Prix Berteux (Gr. 3) at Chantilly over 1m7f. Despite two good seconds; to Marienbard in the Yorkshire Cup (Gr.2) and Generic in the Prix Kergorlay (Gr. 2), he didn't seem the same animal after, and has snapped up by the Pipe camp, who may be able to rekindle that lose of enthusiasm
Updates¬> 23.02.2002 - Slightly surprised to see him wear blinkers first time out, however he stayed on nicely behind stablemate Jaybejay ... he should win races. 23.03.2002 - Stayed on strongly to win his second race at Wincanton .. may appreciate a step up in trip.

SOSSUS VLEI
Currently trained by ¬>  P Winksworth
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   Sossus Vlei, a half-brother to numerous smart winners. including 1m2f performer Sasaru and 7f.1m performer Sally Rous was a horse I really took top when he was trained by the Wraggs. Although he won three events, he best effort was probably when finishing third to Shiva in the 2000 running of the Brigadier Stakes (Gr.2). It isn't immediately obvious what subsequently happened to him, because he seems to have not run for a year before winning an Amateur riders race at Chantilly last September. I'm glad that he has found his way back to these shores, and as he revelled in the mud when with the Wraggs, could enjoy himself over obstacles on the country circuit.
Updates¬> 16.02.2002 - Very encouraging third on his hurdles bow. (might have gone very close, if he'd jumped the last with more accuracy. A repeat of this effort will se him win a race

TIGER HUNT
Currently trained by ¬>  Nicky Henderson
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   Tiger Hunt, who hasn't raced since finishing second to Premiership in a handicap at Maisson Lafitte in May 2000 is another interesting entry especially as Lord Weinstock continues to persevere with this son of Rainbow Quest by the useful Gay Hellene. Like Cloudy Sky, Tiger Hunt hails from a good middle-distance family and could be very interesting if he retained any of that potential. He may not be up to winning at Cheltenham, but should win races
Updates¬>

LANOS (POL)
Currently trained by ¬>  Tom George
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   Tom George has done well with his recent purchases for Poland, and will be looking no doubt to unleashing a couple with classic form.   Galileo won their St Leger two years ago and also ran well in Germany, he was entered for the Supreme Novices Hurdle. Lanos, who I've chosen of the two won their 2000 Guineas, before finishing a gallant third in their Derby. Quite what the form amounts to only time will tell, however Cobbet started life in lowly company before proving his worth, and I wouldnt be surprised if these two aren't placed to similar effect
Updates¬> 23.03.2002 - Showed little promise on his British debut at Kempton, however there was plenty to like about his good 3rd placing last time out. A win is a distinct possibility.

HOUSEPARTY
Currently trained by ¬>  J A B Old
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   Houseparty, a full-brother to 7f juvenile winner Berengarius and half-brother to six other winners including useful 5f (juvenile) to 1m1f winner Nordic Pageant threatened to be useful when trained by Sir Michael Stoute on the level. For whatever reason, a win over Hyderabad at Haydock in August 2001 was all that he mustered, eventually ending with a rating of 95. Connections thought that he was better than that, so it is interesting, that Jim Old has taken him on... wouldn't be surprised if the Glenlivet Hurdle at Aintree wasn't high on his agenda, and even if he isn't that good, you'd be disapointed if he wasn't up to winning an ordinary maiden on the country circuit.
Updates¬>

NAAHIL
Currently trained by ¬>   Dermot Weld in Ireland
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   Naahil, a narrow winner of a ten-furlong Leopardstown maiden in July 2001 had disappointed next time out over an extended mile at Galway when fitted with blinkers. He ran without them on his next start , regaining the winning thread when getting the better of Northern Rock at Fairyhouse in August. Dermot Weld's 'prophecy: "He will try and win another Flat race before going hurdling. He will make a high-class hurdler." is interesting as he has become particularly selective with his jumpers of late, so it'll be interesting to see what sort of path he charts with this son of Elmaamul
Updates¬>

Some more selections from recent meetings;

BRAD
Currently trained by ¬>  Paul Webber
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   Brad walks into this list, after an encouraging racecourse debut in the bumper on Towcester's card at the end of last week. Despite running very green, Brad made rapid headway from the tail of the field a mile, and came with what looked to be the winning manoeuvre inside the final quarter. It took a determined McCoy drive to get the winner Villa home that day. And a reproduction of his effort will see him in the winner's enclosure before too long
Updates¬> 23.03.2002 -Disappointing since this good second.. his immaturity may be getting the better of him thus far

INAKI (FR)
Currently trained by ¬>  Paul Winksworth
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   Inaki made an encouraging British debut on the same Towcester card. This former winner over hurdles at Pau, was probably the best jumper of these, and jumped his way into contention five out. I thought he'd win until faltering turning for home and eventually he weakened to finish over 60lengths behind the eventual winner Stormhill Stag. This was his first effort since being claimed out of an Auteuil claming chase in November, so you'd expect Inaki to come on for the experience, and he should be capable of finding a little race on this evidence
Updates¬>23.02.2002  - slightly disappointing, despite finishing a close fourth at Huntingdon this week... probably wants really slow conditions to be at his most affective .  23.03.2002 - Another disappointing effort...seems to be going backwards. Could be deleted in due course as he may not have yet fully acclimatised.

COOL INVESTMENT
Currently trained by ¬>  Robert Stronge
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   Cool Investment, formerly a useful handicapper on the level, is slowly, but surely finding his form over hurdles. He was noted staying on nicely in the final mile behind Ideal Du Bois Beury, in a competitive handicap hurdle at Leicester, on 22.01.2002. The winner, and the second Isou, are potentially useful sorts, so this should to be solid form. He should be up to winning a similar event before too long
Updates¬> 16.02.2002 - Placed this week and should  be capable of winning a race on that effort.

THE KING'S DOCTOR
Currently trained by ¬>  R G Frost
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   The King's Doctor could be one to watch out for on the Wessex circuit after finishing an encouraging sixth to Meadow's Boy at Warwick on 24.01.2002. To be honest he was never really put into the race at any time, and stayed on nicely under tender handling to finish a never nearer sixth. This was a Class 'F' so I am under no illusion about the level of this form. It strikes me that there will be several races of this type during the final third of the season, and The King's Doctor may be up to taking such an event … we shall see
Updates¬>
23.03.2002 - Shown little since adding him, but he is more of a summer horse in any case so no need to panic yet!!!

GYPSY
Currently trained by ¬>  Norman B Mason
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   Gypsy may now be seen to better advantage, now that he has earned a handicap mark. He has been given the typical introduction by this shrewd operation, having run creditably in defeat behind, Ideal Du Bois Beury, Colline de Feu, and most recent Man Murphy at Carlisle, without ever having the gun placed to his head. His latest effort, in particular was a very good effort, and it wont be the greatest surprise if he pops up at a nice price in a decent midweek handicap somewhere on the circuit.
Updates¬> 23.03.2002 - After a couple of frustrating effort he couldn't have been more impressive when winning at Stratford....bought out of the yard ... it'll be interesting to see how he fares

ROYAL ORIGNY (FR)
Currently trained by ¬>  Guillame Macaire in France
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   Royal Origny caught the eye in stature, if not in performance, when staying on to finish third behind Belisario at Wetherby on 21.02.2002. That was his first effort since winning a little event at Le Pin-Au-Haras in October, and gave the impression he would improve for the experience... it'll be interesting if his British venture continues ...
Updates¬>

JAMEROSIER (FR)
Currently trained by ¬>  Mrs Lydia C Taylor
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   Jamerosier was one of several horses that caught my eye in two bumpers held on Kempton's card on 28.01.2002. Jamerosier looks on first impression to be a staying prospect, which probably explains why Henry Oliver made full use of him from the start. He became a bit of a sitting target turning for home, and you feared that he'd weaken rapidly through the field. To his credit, he stayed on nicely up the straight to finish within 10 lengths of the eventual winner Noble Baron. He should improve once he is tried over hurdles
Updates¬> 23.03.2002 -Two good efforts over both codes since this first effort... A win surely isn't hat far away

GIG'S GAMBIT
Currently trained by ¬>  Mark Pitman

Comments¬>   Gig's Gambit ran well in the second division of the bumper on Kempton's card on 28.01.2002. Like Jamerosier plenty of use was made of him, and Gig's Gambit was one of a few still travelling nicely on the bit turning into the straight. He stayed on really stoutly to finish third to King Claudius, and he may be good enough to take one of these events before the end of the season

BY N BY
Currently trained by ¬>  Miss Venetia Williams
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   By N By was another who ran well in the second division of the bumper on Kempton's card on 28.01.2002. He travelled nicely throughout and 'came there' going well turning into the straight. That effort was short lived and he eventually finished in the ruck of the field. Although this doesn't appear initially encouraging By N By gave the impression that he was better than this bare form, and may be seen to best effect over 2miles over obstacles, rather than this type of events, which may not suit him.

THE INDISPENSABLE
Currently trained by ¬>  Jonjo O'Neill
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬>   03.02.2002
Comments¬>   I noticed that The Indispensable, who showed plenty of promise when trained by Christy Roche in Ireland, has been transferred to Jonjo O'Neill's yard. He showed promise on his first start for 12 months when finishing a creditable fourth to Eskimo jack in a Navan Maiden Hurdle on 12.01.2002. Just a small improvement on this level of form will be good enough to take a little race on this side of the water.
Updates¬>16.02.2002 - Ran poorly at Sandown this week. As much I like the horse, he will need to improve in his next couple of efforts

THISTHATANDTOTHER
Currently trained by ¬>  Paul Nicholls
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬>   26.01.2002
Comments ¬>  Thisthatandtother almost got overlooked having run a great race on his debut at Ascot at the end of last year; when finishing second to Alvino, having got a bit outpaced, when this slowly run affair began in haste. He would have benefited from a stronger gallop, and will improve for the experience…compensation awaits
Updates ¬> 16.02.2002 - Cruised home at Wincanton last week and is clearly talented.
23.03.2002 - Not disgraced in the Cheltenham Bumper, should make up into a lovely hurdler next term

EURO ALERT
Currently trained by ¬>  William J Warner
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬>   26.01.2002
Comments ¬>  I've enjoyed reading Declan Phelan Irish point-to-point reviews. They are becoming extremely valuable in pinpointing winner of the future. Judging by this horses' recent win between the flag at Ampton, Euro Alert is worth watching out for in a Hunter Chase later in the campaign. He went off a warm favourite that day, and justified that support, staying on strongly to beat Via De La Valle by 4lengths. Euro Alert will come on for this, and has the potential to develop into a useful hunter chaser
Updates ¬>
23.03.2002 -Cruised home on his next start in a PTP ... definitely one to watch out for

PLIQUÉ A JOUR (FR)
Currently trained by ¬>   M Cheno in France
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬>   26.01.2002
Comments ¬>  I am recording Pliqué A Jour in "future winners" not because as I especially believe this four year old daughter of Hernando will race in this country this term, just to ensure that when I compile ONE2JUMP 2002/3, I don't forget her. She was with Alain De Royer Dupre on the flat, and ran respectably on the level finishing in the frame twice (finishing in front of Non So at Longchamp in June). What has excited me so much was her hurdling debut at Pau last month, where she jumped like an old hand, and quickened impressively to distance between her and her rivals. I shall be watching her progress with interest, and fully expect her to handle a step up in grade
Updates ¬>

DOUCEUR DES SONGES (FR)
Currently trained by ¬>  Martin Pipe
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬>   26.01.2002
Comments ¬>  I wont be in the least bit surprised if Douceur Des Songes gets onto the scoresheet before the end of the season. Her form figures aren't that encouraging however her last effort when she finished second to Funny Des Cotieres at Auteuil last June, in a claiming chase where the horses she finished in front of included Miss Ramic who went on to win two races in the Autumn suggest there may be more to come from her. Even better she is a maiden, so the Pipe camp has all options open. One to watch out for on the country circuit.
Updates ¬> 16.02.2002 - Finished third at Leicester on her debut beaten a distance ... she's better that that and may be better on a faster surface. Having not raced for nearly a year, she is given the benefit of the doubt

SLOOGHY (FR)
Currently trained by ¬>   Nicky Henderson
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬>   26.01.2002
Comments ¬>  Since we're looking at for possible winners who previously raced in France, Slooghy who last raced almost a year ago, where he finished a creditable fourth to a grey called Turkama, who went on to win three more races including two steeplechases, is open to any amount of improvement. This six year old son of Missolonghi has very little mileage on the clock, and should be able to fins a race during the remainder of the season
Updates ¬> 16.02.2002 - Disapointed a little, however is a big baby so want be judged on one effort.

SCRATCH THE DOVE
Currently trained by ¬>   Cecil J Price
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬>   26.01.2002
Comments ¬>  Scratch The Dove really caught the eye on her hurdling debut at Ludlow on 17.01.02, staying on really strongly in the final mile eventually finishing a creditable fourth to runaway winner Ismene. She should be open to further improvement and looks capable of adding moiré wins to the "Dove Dynasty"
Updates ¬>
23.03.2002-Has disappointed since being entered into this list, mainly because connections are unrealistic in racing her in novice events when she would have much better claims in handicap company.

JETOWA DU BOIS HUE (FR)
Currently trained by ¬>   Tom R. George
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬>   26.01.2002
Comments ¬>  Jetowa Du Bois Hue is going to be a commentator's nightmare for seasons to come if his second to Golden Alpha at Wincanton on 19.01.02 is anything to go by. He was the only one that gave Golden Alpha a race, and whilst he was eventually put in your place, he did more than enough to suggest that a win is not too far away
Updates ¬> 23.02.2002 -  Ran as if something was amiss last week.. one to watch next time.
23.03.2002- Has put in another poor effort and whilst he is one that I do like, he is currently best watched...I am thinking about deleting him until next season.

SIR LUPIN
Currently trained by ¬>  Charlie Mann
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬>  20.01.2002
Comments ¬>  Sir Lupin made a pleasing racecourse appearance at newbury on 09.01.2002, when beating all bar Turtle Soup in one of the novice hurdle races on the card. Racing prominently from the start; Sir Lupin stayed on readily after being headed turning for home, and gave every indication that a longer trip would suit. One to watch out for in staying novice hurdles during the remainder of the season.
Updates ¬>

TUCASAS (FR)
Currently trained by ¬>  Martin Pipe.
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬>   20.01.2002
Comments ¬>  Whilst the likes of Stormez and Magnus grab the headlines, (for all the right/wrong reasons) it is worth remember that Martin Pipe hasn't actually done too badly with his purchases from France this term. Cesaria (also in this list looks capable of a bold showing in a decent handicap hurdle, and it wouldnt surprise me if Tucasas, a five year grey mare by Highest Honor doesn't follow in her footsteps. I've seen her last three runs; two solid wins at Enghien, plus a creditable third at Auteuil on her most recent start. When you consider she's beaten the likes of Never, and Barito over obstacles (admittedly they've improved since that run) you can see Martin Pipe has potentially an interesting mare to go to war with during the second half of the season
Updates ¬> 01.02.2002 - Won on the first time of asking at Leicester and can hopefully build on this.  16.02.2002 - Followed up at Sandown and is clearly useful
23.03.2002- Disapointed at the Cheltenham festival, but she's be on the go for a long time now and may simply have had enough for this season.

MOODY BLUES
Currently trained by ¬>  Alex Hales
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬>  20.01.2002
Comments ¬>  Moody Blues, a former winning Irish point to pointer, made a promising British debut on 11.01.02 at Huntingdon, making all until headed after three out, eventually finishing 15lengths behind the eventual winner Suntas. I wouldn't be surprised if he improves significantly on that, He should win a novice chase with good placement and could be interesting in a handicap.
Updates ¬> 01.02.2002 - Disappointed badly on his next start, though he may have found the ground at Plumpton too severe. 23.02.2002 - Disapointed again last week ... wont get many more chances.
23.03.2002- DELETED.

SUCCESS STORIES

SANDOWN PARK 02.02.2002

As good as the 6 entrants potentially are, this is a Grade 1 race only in name. Course and distance winner Returning (put in her place by Seebald), Silence Reigns (a winner at Chepstow last time out, but not convincing over these obstacles) and Bounce Back (useful who has flattered to deceive so far over the fences in this country) head the market, and are the likeliest winners, but are all opposable. I would probably pass on this race as a result, however Furlong to Go's policy is to provide a selection for each race. I have a lot of time for Golden Goal who won easily at Plumpton last time out. He has the most scope of these runners, and it isn't stretching the imagination to believe that he can figure here. If I were to have any investment in the race, it would probably be on him.

10/1 Winner
