TEN COMMANCHES
Currently trained by ¬> Ferdy Murphy
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 20.01.2002
Comments ¬> Ten Commanches; a five year old chestnut entire by the sire Commanche Run was noted staying on strongly in the quarter mile, when finishing third behind Super Sammy at Newcastle on 12.01.02. Given a longer trip over hurdles. I'd fully expect him to be able to get into the winners enclosure
Updates ¬>
THE GUY
Currently trained by ¬> Michael O'Brien in Ireland
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 20.01.2002
Comments ¬> The Guy took part in what may transpire to be a hot beginner's bumper at Leopardstown on 13.01.02. Whilst not suggesting he was good enough on the day, he was set a pretty big task by his rider, and may be better than the bare form suggests …worth noting for any ruins around the lesser tracks
Updates ¬>
BLANC C'EST BLANC (FR)
Currently trained by ¬> Arthur Moore in Ireland
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 20.01.2002
Comments ¬> Blanc C'est Blanc is worthy of a mention, having finished mid division behind Thari at Leopardstown on 26.12.2001 - This race has thrown up several winners since so the fact that Blanc C'est Blanc held his position under tender handling, suggests that that they'll be more to come from him as he gains experience.
Updates ¬>
LE CLUZEAU (FR)
Currently trained by ¬> Guillame Macaire in France.
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 20.01.2002
Comments ¬> Le Cluzeau walked into this list after an extraordinary performance at Pau last week in a cross-country chase. Held up at the rear the field, Le Cluzeau jumped the complexities of Pau with aplomb, and was going best on the final circuit. Clearly however his rider was over confident, and only made a move for glory going over the third place, by which time the winner had flown. Le Cluzeau made up at least 15lentgths in the final straight, and is an unlucky loser. I've noted that he's been entered in a few races on this side of the water, and would win any ordinary chase if he put in a clear round.
Updates ¬>
NOUVEAU CHEVAL
Currently trained by ¬> Martin Pipe.
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 20.01.2002
Comments ¬> Nouveau Cheval could a horse to note for the second half of the season. Admittedly this mare hasn't been on the track since winning a handicap hurdle at Worcester in June 1999, but she was going the right way at the time, and if any trainer can find a race for this mare, then its the champion trainer elect.
Updates ¬> 16.02.2002
- Won on her second start and should be able to assist "A. P." near
that illusive 300 target. 23.03.2002
- Three wins this season...she's doing everything I hoped she would.
TOSCANINNI (GER)
Currently trained by ¬> David Gandolfo
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 20.01.2002
Comments ¬> Toscaninni showed promise on his British debut at Leicester on 27.12.01, travelling best until weakening going to the last. This horse travelled sweetly throughout the race, and appeared capable of improving on this run
… No world beater but capable of winning with sound placement
Updates ¬> 23.02.2002
- Connections are aiming him too high at present ... that said he would be
attractive in a handicap. 23.03.2002
- Hasn't built on the debut effort and is becoming disappointing...must be
attractively handicapped but might not get the opportunity this season to take
advantage...may be deleted.
JACKSONVILLE (FR)
Currently trained by ¬>Andrew Parker
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 23.02.2002
Comments¬> Jacksonville again built on the promise shown on his hurdling bow, behind The
Bajan Bandit at Musselburgh today. Although he still needs to brush up his jumping technique, he clearly is a resolute galloper and was a little unlucky not to score here, especially as he was hampered by the third after the last when still in which a shout. I can see him winning a handicap hurdle over this trip off of a lightweight, and I'm content to add him onto this list with that in mind
Updates¬>23.03.2002
-Pipped on his first start for us .. due to race as I type .. hopefully
he'll finally get his head in front
GANGSTERS R US
Currently trained by ¬>Andrew Parker
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 23.02.2002
Comments¬> Gangsters R Us, a real old fashion chasing type, has caught my attention on his previous starts, and deserves to be added to this list, having justified my faith in him, when staying on to be third to Monkerhostin at the rewarding odds of 100/1 at Sedgefield earlier this week. Though not as good as the winner, he showed plenty of resolve up the home straight, and gave every indication that he will appreciate further. Will get better as he matures.
Updates¬>23.03.2002
-
Didn't build on his last start, however there is still time
.. not prepared to give up on him yet.
NAPOLEON BONAPARTE
Currently trained by ¬>Mark Pitman
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 23.02.2002
Comments¬> Napoleon Bonaparte; a lovely big son of Insan, stayed on strongly up the home straight, on his debut at Kempton and will improve for the experience.
Updates¬>
KNOWHOW
Currently trained by ¬>Mark Pitman
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 23.02.2002
Comments¬> Knowhow another big strapping gelding by Mister Lord, ran a cracker in the same event, and is more likely to win a bumper than stablemate
Napoleon Bonaparte... He is going to make a lovely chaser in the future
Updates¬>
ROYAL TILANDE (FR)
Currently trained by ¬>Arthur Moore in Ireland
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 23.02.2002
Comments¬> Royal Tilande ran as though a win wasn't too far away at Fairyhouse today. In mid-division, initially, he made smooth progress 3 out. He was staying on well (looking likely to finish in the frame) when making a bad mistake and unseating his rider at the last. A similar event looks within his grasp.
Updates¬>
HEADS ONTHE GROUND
Currently trained by ¬>Dessie Hughes
Added to "Future Winners" on ¬> 23.02.2002
Comments¬> Heads Onthe Ground, showed immense promise on his debut over hurdles at Gowran Park. Held up initially, he made smooth headway after 3 out. In fifth and closing, Heads Onthe Ground pecked on landing and unseated rider 2 out. He was certain to be placed and looks a certain winner on this evidence.
Updates¬>
LUMACA
Currently trained by ¬> Jimmy Neville
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 20.01.2002
Comments ¬> Lumaca is one to watch out for in staying novice handicap chases. He hasn't jumped fences in public yet, but has always caught my eye over hurdles. He ran his best ever race when coming second at Newbury on his final start of last term. He was badly outpaced towards the end of the back straight but stayed on very strongly in the straight. He clearly appreciated the big step up in distance that day (3miles), and may even benefit from an even stiffer test. He could take one of these at a nice price.
Updates ¬> 01.02.2002
- Stayed on nicely to win at Taunton last week. Lumaca is still open to more improvement
and should be capable of taking another event. 23.03.2002 - Pulled up
on his latest start after a solid third placing the time before...wonder if he's
best fresh?
RIVER PARADISE
Currently trained by ¬> Ferdy Murphy
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 20.01.2002
Comments ¬> To be very honest, I don't very much about River Paradise, and I don't much about his background (I believe he may have point to point form in Ireland). That Said, I know the stamp on horse I like ... and he fits the bill. It’s a shame that he fell early on his British debut at Stratford. as we would know
about the engine in the chassis ... I'm prepared to gamble though
Updates ¬>
BERNARDON (GER)
Currently trained by ¬> Martin Pipe
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 20.01.2002
Comments ¬> Bernardon could be a very interesting recruit to hurdling. Graham Bradley has managed to buy this Group winner from previous trainer Peter Schiergen. Whilst his moist recent form doesn't amount to much, go back twelve months and you'll note that he beat Proudwings in the Darley-Oettingen-Rennen (Group 3) at Baden-Baden in August 2000, as well as taking the Grosse Europcar Meile (Group
2) at Cologne on his following start. He was campaigned mainly in Group company last year and hasn't been out since finishing in the ruck in the Grosse Karstadt-Meile (Group 2) again at Cologne. He handles soft ground, and the main concern with him may be his ability to get he trip having been campaigned primarily at a mile in Germany .... He is very interesting and being by Suave Dancer out of a mare by the German sire Konigsstuhl, there is plenty to suggest that he is capable of bridging this gap,
Updates ¬> 16.02.2002
- Appeared to stay OK ... very impressive when winning at Taunton last week....
looks useful. 23.03.2002 - Didn't run as well as he arguably should have at
the Cheltenham festival...that may be a blessing in disguise.
BE MY DESTINY
Currently trained by ¬> Mark Pitman
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 15.12.2001
Comments ¬> Be My Destiny was definitely the eye catcher in the last at folkestone on
10.12.01, and was probably unlucky not to take this bumper. This debutante; two years younger than the winner and still very much a big baby travelled supremely well throughout. He took up the lead 2f out, but didn't know what to do. He was ridden and edged left over 1f out, despite this he was only headed in the last 50yds, going down by only 1 ½ lengths. Be My Destiny is a smashing individual who should come on from this effort, and win before too long.
Updates ¬>23.03.2002
- Has been creditably since being upped in grade ... should take an ordinary
bumper before the end on the season.
LEAGUES (NZ)
Currently trained by ¬> Lavinia Taylor
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 15.12.2001
Comments ¬> Leagues made an encouraging debut at Doncaster on 15.12.01, behind Fireaway on his British debut. This huge gelding will be much better once he goes chasing, however judging by the way he travelled well throughout the race, he appears to have enough speed to win over hurdles beforehand.
Updates ¬> 01.02.2002
- Slightly disapointed in his last start, but may be better as the weather
improves towards the end of the season, so I haven't lost faith. 23.03.2002
- Weakened dramatically on his most recent start at Stratford. This huge gelding
clearly has gone off the boil. I won't delete him thought I don't expect to see
him again this season...He could be a totally different proposition next season.
NEVER (FR)
Currently trained by ¬> Francois Doumen in France
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 15.12.2001
Comments ¬> Sir Peter O'Sullivan appears to have a useful recruit in Never, who jumped his rivals silly in a novice hurdle at Auteuil recently, making all under Thierry Doumen, and appears to have plenty left in the engine (not many did that day). Watch out for him over the Christmas period.
Updates ¬>16.02.2002
- Quickened nicely to win his only start in this country at Ascot and is still
on the Cheltenham trail .23.03.2002 - He disappointed on his last two
starts in this country and it'll be interesting to see what Francois Doumen does
with him in France during the summer.
LONG WALK
Currently trained by ¬> Henry Daly
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 15.12.2001
Comments ¬> Forgot to add this lovely four-year-old son of King's Ride, who ran creditably behind Calling Brave at Aintree at the end of November. Without being in the same league as the winner Long Walk suggested that he was capable of winning once he goes over obstacles.
Updates ¬> 23.03.2002
- Has run creditably in three novice hurdles, and should be capable of winning an ordinary
maiden hurdle on the country circuit ... may improve for stepping up in distance
SIR EDWARD BURROW
Currently trained by ¬> Wilf Storey
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 15.12.2001
Comments ¬> I liked the way Sir Edward Burrow stayed on nicely to finish a respectable fourth behind Earl Sigurd on his hurdles debut at Catterick on
05.12.01. This form would suggest a little race at a similar venue (possibly a handicap) is within his grasp.
Updates ¬>
PUNTAL (FR)
Currently trained by ¬> Martin Pipe
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 15.12.2001
Comments ¬> Whilst Magnus grabbed all of the headlines at the Goffs Horses in training sale, almost unnoticed was the purchase of Puntal, a maiden so far over obstacle in his native France, but with some useful form against the likes of Ilare, Ilnamar, and Bipbap. Whichever code of racing he tries, I'd be surprised if he
doesn't get his head in Front this term
Updates ¬>
JOUR J (FR)
Currently trained by ¬> Martin Pipe
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 15.12.2001
Comments ¬> At the other end of the spectrum, Martin Pipe should also be able to find a
race or two for Jour J; a four year old gelding who showed promise in a couple of starts at Auteuil in the
autumn before a little novice chase. He may improve as he progresses, so it'll
be interesting to see how he's entered up
Updates ¬> 01.02.2002
- Won as he liked last week at Warwick and is potentially a useful handicapper in the
making. 23.03.2002 - I wouldn't be surprised if he has one more race
this season, however, he doesn't jump with any real conviction and has been
reliant on "A.P.". making his mind up for him. This was evident on his
most recent start at Chepstow where he put down and made a bad blunder at the
second-last open ditch. A confidence-booster would be beneficial before next
season where physically he should be a much stronger individual...whether he's
mentally up to the challenge is a separate issue.
CESARIA (FR)
Currently trained by ¬> Martin Pipe
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 09.12.2001
Comments ¬> I thought that Cesaria, who has bits of useful form from her days in France, ran a pleasing race, when just failing to catch Rob Leach at Plumpton on her British debut. With that horses' good win in the William Hill Handicap Hurdle yesterday Cesaria, (still owned by her J Bertran de Balanda, who trained her in France) should certainly get onto the scoreboard here, and could also exploit what may
be a lenient mark.
Updates ¬> 01.02.2002
- Very impressive when winning at Leicester last time out .. wouldnt be at all
surprised if she is aimed at a decent handicap during the remainder of the
season.16.02.2002
- Got of out jail at Plumpton last week ... definitely better than that
ATUM RÉ
Currently trained by ¬> Paul Webber
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 09.12.2001
Comments ¬> Connections of Atum Ré obviously consider that this unraced son of Be My Native has a future. He is rated highly by them so he could one to note when he appears In bumper races this season
Updates ¬> 16.02.2002
- Impressive when winning at Ludlow on his racecourse bow, but disappointed
in the mud at Newbury last week .. he can be forgiven
HARRY HARESTONE
Currently trained by ¬> P J Jones
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 09.12.2001
Comments ¬> Whilst Silence Reigns was ballooning his way to victory at Chepstow on 28.11.2001, Harry Harestone was staying on to finish a respectable if distant third. He will have needed this run, so further improvement should be expected over the coming weeks
Updates ¬> 23.02.2002
- Although he's running creditably, he really needs to be given an easy to build
his confidence.
GLANAMANA
Currently trained by ¬> Jeff S. King
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 09.12.2001
Comments ¬> Although he was eventually beaten 17 lengths by the eventual winner Iverain, Glanamana did more than enough to suggest that he should be winning shortly. He raced prominently throughout (one of a few to get competitive), and was sympathetically handled up the straight, when it was clear victory was too talk a task. Chasing will make a man of him next term, but he's another who will have
benefited from the experience
Updates ¬> 16.02.2002
- Disappointing of late, though would better if he was tried in handicap
company. Chasing is his game, and I am contemplating dropping him. 23.02.2002
- Ran like he's still maturing physically and is clearly one to leave alone at
the moment ... dropped from the list, but under consideration for next year's
ONE TO FOLLOW List
OCCOLD
Currently trained by ¬> Ferdy Murphy
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 09.12.2001
Comments ¬> Former decent handicapper Occold having his first run in ages, was the only horse to get competitive with easy winner Hugo De Grez here. Adrian Maguire looked after him up the straight, and can be considered better than his final finishing position. The engine clearly still works, so he should be able to win a race, with careful judgement
Updates ¬> 01.02.2002
- Won at 12/1 at Towcester last week, hopefully can fins another little event
before the end of the season . 23.02.2002
- Very disappointing in the Racing Post Chase ... very moody performance
STRONG DECISION
Currently trained by ¬> Willie Jarvis
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 09.12.2001
Comments ¬> Although Strong Decision was eventually well beaten in fifth on his racecourse debut (beaten 30lengths), Willie Jarvis' four year old race well enough to suggest that he could give his flat trainer a bit of fun around the country circuit this winter
Updates ¬> 01.02.2002
- Strong Decision is the only horse on the list that has really disapointed me.
He doesn't appear to have progressed as I hope. It may be that he is struggling
to get home in his bumper so may be better over hurdles ... He needs to show
something to remain active on the list. 23.03.2002 - DELETED FROM
LIST
SHEMDANI
Currently trained by ¬> Martin Pipe
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 03.12.2001
Comments ¬> Shemdani is a name to look out over the coming months having recently been purchased by Hubert Barbe to race in this country. This four year old son has the perfect pedigree, being out of Unfawain by Shemaka; a winner of the Prix de Diane (gr.1), de la Grotte (gr.3), de Condé (gr.3), and de la Nonette (gr.3). He has inherited some of that ability, having won all of his three starts on the level at Nantes, Toulouse, and Pompadour over trips between 1m1f -1m4f. He is unproven over obstacles but literally 'could be anything'... Don’t be too surprised if he hasn’t made his way to Nicholashayne!!.
Updates ¬> 01.02.2002
- Won on the first time of asking at Doncaster and can hopefully build on
this.23.03.2002 - Remains unbeaten and is a nice handicapper in the making.
KRACH (FR)
Currently trained by ¬> François Doumen, in France
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 03.12.2001
Comments ¬> Krach, who is also in our "Cheltenham 2002" feature made a pleasing first appearance over hurdles. He is a very imposing individual, with bags of scope, and started a warm favourite on his first run over hurdles.
He was given a very sympathetic ride by Thierry Doumen, jumping economically throughout, and travelled sweetly on the bridle. He has every chance turning for home, however didn't quicken as well as the winner Far Away Girl, but managed to come well clear of the third Beraud, who won a decent race at Enghien on his previous start.
It was fascinating watching the post coverage of the race, the cameras focused on Krach, and the close-up showed him striding up the hill in second, pleased as punch with himself, ears pricked as though he won. (Thierry Doumen isn't one of the biggest jockeys around, so it was slightly comical watching him flailing away in vain on this gentle
giant!!!).
I'm sure Francois Doumen will be pleased with that run ... they also know that he is likely to always be vulnerable is these gluey conditions. Despite his size I'm certain he'd be much better on a faster surface. As the french season [part 1] is virtually over, I fully expect connections to look for a race for him next
over here .
Updates ¬>
IDALGO DE GUYE (FR)
Currently trained by ¬> Lord Bolton
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 03.12.2001
Comments ¬> Idalgo De Guye, and his amateur pilot Ben Orde-Powlett ran a cracker when finishing 5lengths second to Direct Access at Carlisle last week. He was the only horse to come within striking distance of Lenny Lungo’s useful prospect, and with careful placement, this combination can find a race or two, especially if they can capitalise on Ben Orde-Powlett potentially useful 7lbs allowance.
Updates ¬> 16.02.2002
- Won on the bridle at Ayr first time out, however ran inexplicably last
time out at Wetherby.23.03.2002- Made no show when tried at the Cheltenham
festival. Wonder if there is a problem?
LAVERON
Currently trained by ¬> François Doumen, in France
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 03.12.2001
Comments ¬> Talked up as a horse to note by his trainer, Laveron made a pleasing appearance on his hurdles debut st Auteuil. He jumped particularly well throughout, and made a long run for home, about three out. Still in front at the last, he weakened up the run-in to finish third to Carnet Noir. Quite how good this form
is time will tell, however this former Group winning seven year old in his native Germany looks capable of stepping up on this form, and is capable of winning over obstacles
Updates ¬> 23.03.2002
- Has run creditably against decent opponents... I'm sure he'll win a race this
season, however I wonder whether if it'll be in this country?
JOHN FOLEY
Currently trained by ¬> J. W. Unett
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 03.12.2001
Comments ¬> John Foley isn’t likely to develop into a top notch hurdlers, however he has shown a little bit of promise in three runs thus far over hurdles, most recently when staying on strongly to finish third at Ludlow last week. He had been a little headstrong in his earlier starts, so further improvement is likely. On this evidence he could fins a little race on the country courses, and may do better once he put into Handicap Company.
Updates ¬>
CLOUDFISH
Currently trained by ¬> Alan R Dickens
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 03.12.2001
Comments ¬> Former point to pointer Cloudfish, may not h ave achieved much when finishing second in an ordinary maiden chase at Kelso, however he is worthy of mention having jumped his rival silly throughout, and only given best on the long run in on the line. On this evidence, there are races to be won with him on the
Northern/Scottish circuit
Updates ¬>23.03.2002
- Has gone backwards unfortunately... could be better during the summer months
... not sure what to do
IDEAL DU BOIS BEURY (FR)
Currently trained by ¬> Martin Pipe
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 03.12.2001
Comments ¬> If you dashed off early to get the train on Saturday from Newbury, or weren’t down the bookies, then you wouldn’t have seen AP pull off another miraculous win, when his mount Ideal du Bois Beury, who was cruising at the time, made a complete hash of the second last, (a worse mistake that the Westender one), yet he still picked the horse up and made up the deficit before the last jump,
and then stayed on up the run-in to win cleverly. I really like Ideal du Bois Beury… When previewing his race on Friday night, I wrote; "his fifth place to Ilare in September 2000, beaten 6lengths (who lets remember progressed to finishing second in the French Gold Cup the following June!!), with Ikrenel Royal (so impressive when winning on his British debut) in third only 1 ½ lengths in front of him, and Iverain, (who won easily at Chepstow this week), looks like really good form". The bare form of Saturday’s win is hard to fathom, however on this evidence Ideal du Bois Beury appears to be one of the better novices in the Pipe camp and should be followed.
Updates ¬>16.02.2002
- Two wins at Leicester, and today at 10/1 .... Cheltenham beckons. 23.03.2002
- Connections must rue the fact that he went for the Pertemps Final rather
than the Coral Cup where he had an outstanding chance...didn't appear to
stay (at this stage) 3m2f...never mind, he is a lovely chasing prospect
for next season...Aintree beckons.
ILNAMAR (FR)
Currently trained by ¬> Martin Pipe
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 03.12.2001
Comments ¬> Whilst praise was duly given to the magnificent return to form by Cyfor Malta, It should be noted that several winners are likely to come from this informative event. Young Devereaux, (who some pundits believe was given an ‘easy’ by Timmy Murphy is one of them, a little way down the field Ilnamar caught my attention. He is already in our “ONE TO JUMP” feature so he has already expected to do
well, so it was pleasing to note how well he stayed on under a very sympathetic ride by Roddie Greene, who allowed him to jump around at the back on the field, before staying on nicely from the cross fence. He gave the impression that a little further wouldn’t go amiss, and with this effort (his first for nearly a
year) behind him, he could go on to better things
Updates ¬> 23.02.2002
- Disappointing since this good effort and needs to get back on track
soon.23.03.2002 - YIPPEE!!...You little beauty!...92.7 / 1...I never lost faith.
Arguably his win in the Coral Cup was one of the most impressive
performances at the Festival. It'll be interesting to see if he is tried
in graded company over hurdles before the end of this season.
JUST SOOTY
Currently trained by ¬> Nicky Richards
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 17.11.2001
Comments ¬> Just Sooty really caught the eye on his latest start at Newcastle. Brian Harding gave this attractive, virtually black gelding by Be My Native, a very sympathetic ride. Just Sooty travelled well through the race on the outside of the field, and came them travelling best turning for home. He was only asked a
question after the final flight, however he failed to pull out quite enough, to get back at the winner Joe Di Capo. He was noticeably weak in the market that day (14’s from 8’s) and therefore arguably connection clearly expected him to come on for the run… Compensation in similar company surely awaits
Updates ¬>
U SHULD ALWAYS ASK
Currently trained by ¬> Tom Taaffe in Ireland
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 17.11.2001
Comments ¬> U Shuld Always Ask made a pleasing racecourse début at Punchestown behind the winner Aine Dubh. He travelled nicely in mid division for the majority of the race. He made a move five furlongs out, but could only stay on at the one pace, eventually finishing 8 ½ lengths behind the winner. On this evidence, U Shuld Always Ask appears to have a good future ahead of him
Updates ¬>23.03.2002
- A fair fifth on his only race since being placed on this list.
ROBERT E LEE
Currently trained by ¬> Tom Taaffe in Ireland
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 17.11.2001
Comments ¬> It is encouraging to record in this feature, unraced horses from the ‘ONE TO JUMP’ feature, who sow promise on their early efforts over hurdles. This is the case with Robert E Lee, who stayed on nicely to finish only 6 lengths behind the winner, Joe Cullen. Hopefully e will build on this effort, and could be in the winner’s enclosure before too long
Updates ¬> 23.03.2002
- Third on his first reappearance, however hasn't been out since a poor
run just before Christmas.
EYZE
Currently trained by ¬> Edward O’Grady in Ireland
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 07.11.2001
Comments ¬> Strange ride really. Unusually for a horse making his debut, over 3miles, Norman Williamson make plenty of use of Eyze, however this five year old was unable to sustain the effort and weakened out of contention in the final half mile. Eyze however did show enough promise to suggest that with experience, (and less aggressive tactics) he could find success in the long-term.
Updates ¬>
THE FEAR OF GOD
Currently trained by ¬> Jimmy Fitzgerald
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 07.11.2001
Comments ¬> The Fear of God ran a race full of promise when finishing fourth to Stars Out Tonight in one of the best bumpers of the season so far at Cheltenham’s Open Meeting. Staying on eye-catching to finish fourth. This effort was more than good enough for him to score over hurdles on the northern circuit
Updates ¬>
NE M'OUBLIE PAS (FR)
Currently trained by ¬> Philip Hobbs
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 07.11.2001
Comments ¬> Ne M'Oublie Pas interests me as he is only five, and has as abundance of experience over hurdles and fences mainly in France. He didn't cut much ice during the summer. However a step up in trip 2m7f over fences showed the first signs of a possible when staying from a mile back to finish third in a novice handicap. After coming second over 3m2f at Newton Abbot on his next start, he carried website confidence when outstaying Butler John back over that course and distance on Monday. That was off of a mark of only 84 and though he'll go up for that success, extreme distances may suit, and further successes are possible
Updates ¬>
The horses listed below have been returned to future winners, having been
listed in this feature on the old website
MANX MAGIC (USA)
Currently trained by –¬> Martin Pipe

Comments ¬> The performance of last night without doubt was that of Manx Magic in the novice chase at Warwick... He isn't very big, but he is clearly very athletic ... He jumped his rivals silly here, and I'll be surprised if he isn't saved for an autumn campaign. In that race Inch Fountain ran with credit, despite finishing
40lengths behind the winner. He has done me several good turns when he raced between the flags with the Crows. He has followed many charges from that stable, which has been bought to race at Roger Curtis's yard. His jumping was sound, and he was one of a select few that ever got into this race, as he stayed on to finish a creditable third... There are plenty of races during the summer for a horse of his ability

- DELETED FROM LIST
ISARD III (FR)
Currently trained by –¬> Martin Pipe
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 07.11.2001
Comments ¬> I know Isard III had been pleasing connections when being prepared for a campaign between the flags. He may need a few obstacles to be effective, but he hopefully may be able to show enough potential before then
Updates ¬> 16.02.2002
- Won a point to point last week ... should do well in that sphere.
BUMPER HORSES TO WATCH OUT FOR OVER THE COMING WEEKS
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 07.11.2001
Comments ¬> After the demise of Ultimate Accolade, and Hedgehunter this week, you can understand the reluctance to talk up bumper horses.
The latest hype horse is Francois Doumen trained Carthago, who I suspect is being hyped up in because he is trained by Doumen, but also because it is assumed that he is French bred ... actually he is a four year old gelding by Roselier! I don't know what to make of his pedigree, other than he has a
traditional (good) British jumping pedigree... not though the sort that would excel in bumpers.
However if Peter O'Sullevan is on him for the Cheltenham Bumper, he clearly must be talented. Even if the rumours are right about Carthago, these horses hopefully are nice sorts in their own right, and have been pleasing connections at home;
IMAGO II (FR), a bay gelding by Chamberlin (FR)
Currently trained by –¬> Ferdy Murphy
Updates ¬> Has
twice been beaten since winning a bumper resolutely at Haydock on his debut ...
His runs have been spaced out so its possible he may need both, but he's a big individual
who may be still growing... he's given the benefit of the doubt for now,
however, as he's also in the ONE TO JUMP feature, he may be dropped.
CHAUVINIST, a bay gelding by Roselier
Currently trained by –¬> Nicky Henderson
Updates ¬> 01.02.2002
- Has twice been beaten at odds on over hurdles after winning nicely at Kempton
on his debut in a bumper ... hopefully this is greenness and not a sign of
temperament ... he's given the benefit of the doubt.
JERICHO III (FR), a bay gelding by Lute Antique
Currently trained by –¬> Nicky Henderson, and
Updates ¬> 01.02.2002
- Won on his second start and appears to be still very green... can will
again.
JUMPTY DUMPTY (FR), a brown gelding by Chamberlin (FR)
Currently trained by –¬> Guillaume Macaire
Updates ¬> 01.02.2002
- Won a cross country chase before joining John Tuck's yard. Hasn't cut much ice
as yet over here, but may want more time ... and better ground.
Hopefully they can get their heads in front before the ground dries up
DARK SHELL
Currently trained by ¬> Nicky Henderson
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 07.11.2001
Comments ¬> A timely reminder of the imminent arrival on the track of one of our horses to follow Dark Shell. This son of Darshaan developed into a useful performer two
years ago; when he followed an easy win the Listed Aston Park Stakes at Newbury with a close third to Ungaro and Sumitas in the Group 1 WGZ Bank-Deutschlandpreis at Dusseldorf. Unfortunately, that was the last we saw of
him on the flat due to injury, however he has been doing well since his arrival at Seven Barrows and could be anything should he takes to hurdles.
Updates ¬> 23.03.2002
- Jumped appallingly yet still was a creditable eighth in the County
Hurdle. If he can iron out this weakness, he could take one of the
valuable end-of-season handicaps.
LA VASCO DE GAMA (FR)
Currently trained by ¬> William Warner
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 07.11.2001
Comments ¬> Whilst this has been a fascinating year so far, persistent lameness is currently keeping me away from the racetrack. This frustrates me, however this of course doesn't apply to the Cheltenham Festival where Hell will need to freeze over, to prevent my arrival. On that point it you see a large man crawling through the gates, ... say "Hello Rook!!" and I'll do my best to respond!!!.
It also means that I have not been able to attend as many points to points as I liked, where watching the whole build up of each race at close hand has a
uniqueness/atmosphere that only a few rules courses have. Cottenham is one of my local track, (I'm spoilt in this respect), and it is a shame that I was unable
to make their most recent meeting, as the performance of La Vasco De Gama brightened up an ordinary card.
It probably wasn't a fair fight, as La Vasco De Gama went into the race with some useful place form behind him when trained in France, and by winning a 2m4f maiden he achieved nothing. However it was the manner (apparently) by which he undertook the task that was most impressive, the fact that he also easily pulled 30 lengths clear of his rivals, in a time 9 seconds faster than the second
division, suggests he is a young horse of great potential. Bill Warner currently trains him, however Judy Wilson has horses with Nicky Henderson, and I'd suggest that this horses future might lay with him. I shall be keeping a close eye on his for the remainder of the season
Updates ¬> 01.02.2002
- Injured
and out for the season... a pity
DOUKASH (FR)
Currently trained by ¬> Martin Pipe
Added to “Future Winners” on ¬> 07.11.2001
Comments ¬> As a fan on the French non-thoroughbred, I can understand why punters may be punch-drunk, with constant references to they’re being another 'good thing' from France, however you do get a few genuine ones along the way. We have been spoilt with the exploits of the likes of Jair Du Cochet, Bilboa and most recently Royal Auclair in the juvenile division, and have the highly touted Azertyuiop to come, however Martin Pipe may well have another interesting one his hands in the shape of Doukash. By Cadoudal, Doukash has only had the two starts over obstacles in France; He put up a good effort on his debut finishing 8 lengths behind Robin Des Champs (who would be rated currently in the top ten juveniles in France over hurdles), and Jet Des Pres in the Prix Rush Hurdle at Auteuil in March, He then followed that effort by chasing home Maillot Jaune in the Prix Chateauvert
(Hurdle) again, at Auteuil in May of last year (beaten 6 lengths). Although that doesn't appear as good an effort Maillot Jaune is himself a useful sort over both hurdles and fences.
I've noticed he's been given a few entries for Cheltenham, and whilst the weather may have scuppered his efforts for qualification, that could turn out to be a blessing in disguise, as he looks certain to win races in the future, and may have benefited for being given the time to
mature/fill out. I think he's certain to make his mark in the future anyway, and I'll be noting his progress with next season in mind.
Updates ¬> 01.02.2002
- Disappointing over hurdles, however may be better over fences.. I'd give him
the benefit of the doubt for now. 16.02.2002
- Finally gets his head in front .. although only in a claimer ... will the
stable persevere with him, or hope someone takes him on? 23.02.2002
- Confidence is high after another win in a seller ... could be interesting in
a handicap
