IMPORTANT MESSAGE

Regular readers will be aware that by now, The Rook et al are now in Gloucestershire for their annual 'Festival Jaunt'. We apologise for not updating this webpage earlier - due to a computer malfunction it was not possible to do so earlier. We will, as usual, be in Gloucestershire for 3 weeks. However, on our return we will need to find the cause of the breakdown and until we can do so, it is very unlikely we will be able to publish for the first few days. Therefore, we feel it best to suspend the site for an additional week, although we will do our best to get back online as soon as possible. The website will therefore be suspended from Saturday 10 March until Friday April 6 2007.

THE ROOK

Whether it be "the race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs, Furlong To Go will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the fancied horses participating each day and their characteristics and requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides you with a winner or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a particular may even convince you to back some of those horses which we feel are the "ones to fear", or have decent each-way claims. whichever is the case, we hope the information is of use to you.

DEDICATION

GEORGE E. ROBERTSON
1936 - 2003

FURLONG TO GO would like to convey our condolences to the ЯOOҚ, whose father; George Edward Robertson passed away on  16th April 2003.

Mr. Robertson nurtured the ЯOOҚ´s enthusiasm for this sport, and it was this inspiration, which is probably behind the creation of this website. As a permanent tribute to his memory, all the meetings covered under the "feature Meeting" banner will be dedicated to him...

"әPOINT notebook'05" -  Our list of Point to Pointers & Hunter Chasers to look out for during the remainder of the 2005 season can be found here.  [more >>]

Last season's winning-most pointer Cannon Bridge, who won nine races, was one of the horse's featured in the 2005 ePOINT notebook.

 CHELTENHAM
Saturday, December 13 2003.
3. 05 Tote Bula Hurdle (A) (Grade 2) - to be run over 2Miles~110yds Penalty € 43500 4-Year-Olds plus. 1st - £43,500, 2nd - £17,115, 3rd - £8,370, 4th - £3,600 8 Declared
"Champion Hurdler Rooster Booster is going to be difficult to beat if in the same form that produced five back-to-back wins last season. However, unless The French Furze returns to front running tactics there doesn't appear to be any guarantee of pace here which makes the likelihood of a falsely run affair all the more likely. I happen to think that plays into the hands of the likes of Spirit Leader, Hasty Prince and Rigmarole who might not beat Rooster Booster in a truly run race, but who do however have the speed to beat him if the race developed into a 3-4 furlong sprint. Purely on the basis of the likely tactics, I'd take a chance with Rigmarole who was very impressive under top weight at the last meeting".

Rigmarole wins a tactical affair at odds of 25/1

LONGCHAMP
Dimanche, Octobre 5.
14:25 - Prix du Cadran Casinos Barrière - [Groupe I]
"... With that in mind, it could pay not to be jingoistic and consider the "home team" as Cut Quartz, Germinis, Westerner, and Cléty will all like the likely strong pace and at their best possess weaponry with give them better claims that may be initially believed. I won't oppose Mr. Dinos, however from a betting prospective if Westerner can be backed at a decent price at British odds, I would certainly consider an each-way wager on him. He seems to be improving as he steps up in trip and having decent form behind the likes of Ange Gabriel earlier in the season, his two-length defeat behind Darasim in the Prix Gladiatęur Royal Thalasso Barrière (gr. 3), here last month, may not be insurmountable. He might be very interesting if he stays this trip today."
Westerner certainly did stay the trip!!!

17:30 - Prix de l´Arc de Triomphe Lucien Barrière - [Groupe I]
"... I've heard a lot of the supposed problems Ďalakhani will have from the outside draw, however with this being so strongly run, his draw may allow Cristophe Soumillon to take the position in the field he wants, rather than being trapped on the inside. If he has to go four or five wide all the way around, that would diminish his chance, however this field should be fairly well stretched out so possibly having to go one or two horses width around shouldn't be given as an excuse. He did nothing wrong in the Prix Niel Casino Barrière d´Enghien (gr. 2) on "Arc Trials day" and should confirm form with the improving Doyen. He and Ange Gabriel, look to be the strongest home challengers and Ange Gabriel, could have done no more than win the Prix Foy Gray d´Albion Barrière (gr. 2) without turning a hair. He has very solid form and only Sulamani, [in the Dubai Sheema Classic (gr. 1)] has beaten him in his last seven starts.. a major contender.

High Chaparral has been laid out for this after an early season injury and did well to win the Ireland The Food Island Champion Stakes (gr. 1) at Leopardstown last month. He was probably a fortunate winner, as Falbrav was very unlucky in running, however that confirms his well-being and he should go close. I think one of these will win the race and I have to dismiss High Chapparal because of the proximity of Moon Ballad and a lesser extent Alamshar, nevermind Falbrav' s poor run, which gives rise to caution about the value of that form in the context of this race. It takes a really good horse to lower Ange Gabriel 's colours and Ďalakhani ticks all the necessary boxes. I take him to confirm his position as the best middle distance three-year-old in training".
Ďalakhani finally gets the acclaim he deserves
