Analysis & Selections by

Whether
it be "th e race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs, we
will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the fancied
horses participating each day and their
characteristics and requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides
you with a winner or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a
particular may even convince you to back some of those horses which we
feel are the "ones to fear", or have decent eachway claims.
whichever is the case, we hope the information is of use to you.
"ONE TO JUMP '04" - A selections of horses we believe are worth following during the national hunt season.

News"
FOREWORD
Since the end of the last season, The Rook has been sifting through the formbook/sales returns for horses to follow this season. This year the list comprising runners
trained in Britain, Ireland, Italy, France, Germany, and the Czech Republic and includes horses that raced in these countries, as well as Australia, The
U.A.E. and New Zealand
As usual the list large as we feel it helps to have a 'core' of horses to keep an eye on. We have had to leave some out, but will include them as and when in our FUTURE WINNERS feature during the winter
WHY SUCH A LARGE LIST?
The list is really intended to cover (at least) a twelve-month period, rather than a quick return although some of the horses highlighted have done exactly that. We find it pays to start off with a central 'core' of horses to watch out for, rather than having to try and remember how a horse has performed.
The format is as much as the same as is recent years. We have avoided as many of the big names of jumping, as we could mainly because we all know who they are, and they usually offer very little in the way of betting opportunities (...besides you'll get hundreds of similar features who will offer you these horses!!)
That isn't to say that we don't think they will do well, and our hopes for them will be expressed on the website in our 'FEATURE MEETINGS' reviews, or on the 'CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL' page. There are a couple of exceptions, however don't think it odd, that you will not find ROOSTER BOOSTER, HOR LA LOI III, MALBOROUGH, LIKE-A-BUTTERFLY, DAVENPORT MILENIUM, BEST MATE or
ÉDREDON BLEU amongst this year's offering.
We don't expect these to win all of the time, but we hope they are capable of performing solidly during the season. It is worth having a look in the NATIONAL HUNT, 'POINT TO POINT' or 'NAP OF THE DAY' sections to see when we are most keen on their chances.
The list of horses have been placed into the following sections
[i]¯¯ Bumper horses
[ii]¯¯ Hurdlers - 3 year olds (juveniles)
[iii]¯¯ Hurdlers - novices 4 year olds+
[iv]¯¯ Hurdlers - handicappers

[vi]¯¯ Steeplechasers - novices 4 year olds+
[vii]¯¯ Steeplechasers - handicappers
[viii]¯¯ Steeplechasers - championship class?

KRIS KIN: Not certain to stay today's trip however there was plenty to like about the way he quickened to land the Dee Stakes at Chester on his seasonal reappearance. Sir Michael Stoute knows what it takes to win this race and the fact that they have stumped up £90,000 to supplement him has to be considered a positive.
SUMMARY
Ireland would appear to have a very strong hand here and it will not surprise me if both Alamshar and Refuse To Bend made the frame (wouldn't be at all surprised if Alamshar obliged). However as it's the Derby let's see if we can try and find something at a bigger prize particularly those who want to have an each-way bet. Whilst it's easy to see why the likes of Norse Dancer and
Magistrettì might appeal, Kris Kin catches the eye, particularly after that good effort at Chester. There was a lot to like about that performance and at odds of around 10/1, should give each-way supporters a good run for their money.
That
one was for you dad!!!

2:00 William Hill H´cap. Hurdle
A very competitive handicap hurdle with several of these having strong claims. Farmer Jack, Teaatral, Lord Brex, Aspirant Dancer, Creon,
Mr. Markham, and Ideal du Bois Beury all have serious claims. Father Jack (who was probably ridden too positively last time out) is sure to go well and probably would have been my selection if Ideal du Bois Beury hadn't been in opposition. I thought he won with a bit in hand under top weight at Leicester last time out and looks very appealing off of the minimum weight.
IDEAL DU BOIS BEURY won - 10/1
