  "ONE TO JUMP"

Analysis & Selections by

Ò rØøk

Whether it be "the race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs, we will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the fancied horses participating each day and their characteristics and requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides you with a winner or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a particular may even convince you to back some of those horses which we feel are the "ones to fear", or have decent eachway claims. whichever is the case, we hope the information is of use to you.

"ONE TO JUMP '04" - A selections of horses we believe are worth following during the national hunt season.

BUMPER/UNRACED HORSES

AFISTFULLOFDOLLARS
b, g. Be My Native [U.S.A.] - Myra Gaye
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Noel Meade in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Afistfullofdollars is a five-year-old by Be My Native, who will show plenty of promise on his only start last term, getting within ½ length of Kim Fontaine in a bumper at the Punchestown Festival last spring. He has bags of scope for further improvement and should be capable of winning a similar event before the end of the season.

ATH CLIATH
br, g. Supreme Leader - Lady Graduate
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Arthur L. T. Moore in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Ath Cliath is a five-year-old by Supreme Leader, who hasn´t as yet raced under rules, however ran once between the flags in Ireland landing a 5-Y-O Maiden point-to-point at Kilfeacle, in January. He is a lovely long-term chasing prospect that Arthur Moore excels with, and hopefully he should show some potential under rules this winter.

AZZEMOUR [FR]
ch, g. Moorespeed - Tarde [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Paul Nicholls
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Azzemour is a four-year-old by Moorespeed out of the mare Tarde, which makes him a full-brother to French Champion hurdler Le Sauvignon and Montìfault, who has done so well for the same stable. He has been pleasing connections at home and hopefully can show some promise in bumpers during this season.

BLIND FAITH
b, g. Supreme Leader - Marello
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Paul Nicholls
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Blind Faith is a four-year-old son of Supreme Leader by Marello, who at her best was a decent staying hurdler a few years ago. He was bought at Doncaster´s May sale and is unlikely to be rushed... We´ll probably see him in bumpers in the new year.

BON TEMPS ROULER [FR]
b, g. Hero's Honor [USA] - Top Nue [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Arthur L. T. Moore in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Bon Temps Rouler is a four-year-old by Hero's Honor, out of a mare by Top Ville. He "walked" into this list after his promising debut run at the beginning of May '03, when he was fourth to Blazing Liss in a decent Punchestown bumper in May. Bon Temps Rouler was held up initially, before making steady headway from 6f out before failing to his position from the home turn, eventually only finishing 10½lengths behind the winner. This was a fair effort and he should be capable of winning a race before the end of the season.

BORN LEADER
b, g. Supreme Leader - Real Lace
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Alan King
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Born Leader is a five-year-old by Supreme Leader, who didn´t race last term, because he had a few setbacks. He has been pleasing connections at home and is nice, long-term prospect - the sort of horse that pays to follow over the next eighteen months or so.

DOM BEYSSAC [FR]
gr, g. Beyssac - Lessons in Love [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Venetia Williams
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- I noted that Venetia Williams bought this grey son of Beyssac at the 2002 GOFFS France´s July sale. He is unraced and is more likely to appear in a bumper next year than over hurdles.... hopefully he´ll show some promise in that sphere.

DOOLEY
b, g. Alflora - Lady Phyl
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Noel Meade in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Dooley is a five-year-old gelding by Alflora, out of a Northiam mare, who by all account was highly regarded by connections last season, but was unable to get onto the racecourse. He obviously has been pleasing connections and is added due to that recommendation.

EARTHMAN
b, g. Hamas - Rajuara
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Paul Nicholls
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Earthman is an unraced four-year-old by Hamas, who come for a good jumping family. He hails from a stable who do well in bumpers and I´d be hopeful of him being found a winning opportunity before the end of the season

EURO LEADER
b, g. Supreme Leader - Noreaster
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Willie P. Mullins in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- I like to scan the entries for bumper horses, especially from the better trainers. I noticed this son of Supreme Leader amongst the entries during the summer and since Willie Mullin isn´t afraid to bring out his best bumpers early on in the season to gain experience this shores may be worth watching out for during the remainder of the season.

FARRANFORE
b, g. Be My Native [U.S.A.] - Mandy´s Treasure
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Edward O´Grady
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Farranfore is a five-year-old gelding by Be My Native, who showed plenty of promise on his only start last term, where he finished second to Dizzy´s Dream at Leopardstown in February [btn 8lengths]. He should come on for the experience and hopefully he´ll go one better at some stage this winter

FIER NORMAND [FR]
b, g. Cyborg [FR] - Moomaw
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Jeremy F. C. Maxwell in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Fier Normand is a four-year-old by Cyborg, out of Moomaw, [a daughter of Akarad]. This attractively bred individual was purchased by Jeremy Maxwell from Goffs Frances' summer sale. He is an embryonic chaser, who should [hopefully] show some promise before the end of the season.

GIDEON PUTNAM
br, g. Good Thyne [U.S.A.] - Penthouse Pearl
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Jonjo O´Neill
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Gideon Putnam is an unraced five-year-old gelding by Good Thyne, out of a mare by Green Shoon. He has reportedly been showing connections some promise at home so hopefully will make some impression in this discipline before embarking on a hurdles career.

GRANDE BRETAGNE [FR]
b, g. Legend Of France [U.S.A.] - L´Epicurienne [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Ian Williams
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Grande Bretagne is a four-year-old by Legend Of France, by L´Epicurienne [a daughter of Rex Magna], which makes him a half-brother to Epicure and L´Epicurien. Ian Williams didn´t do very well with Epicure and hopefully this interesting proposition will show some promise in bumpers this season.

GREEN TANGO
br, g. Greensmith - Furry Dance [U.S.A.]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Henry D. J Daly
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Green Tango is a four-year-old by Greensmith, out of a daughter of Nureyev. He showed plenty of promise on his only start to date, in a Worcester bumper in May, when finishing third to Tinoveritas, [btn 7¾Lengths]. He's sure to come on for the experience and wouldn´t need to improve much to win a race this season.

HAS SCORED
ch, g. Sadler´s Wells [U.S.A.] - City Ex
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Ferdy Murphy
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Has Scored is a five-year-old by Sadler´s Wells, who has been given plenty of time, by connections as he is a big horse, and has taken a while to come to hand. He was with them last year, but wasn´t able to run, however he´s pleasing connection at home and is a nice prospect.

INEXORABLE
br, g. Roselier [FR] - Katday [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- David Wachman in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Inexorable is a five-year-old by Roselier, out of Katday, which makes him a half brother to Gold Cup winner Best Mate, as well as Inca Chief and Cornish Rebel. He won a maiden point-to-point at Nenagh in January and clearly possesses some ability. hopefully he´ll show some promise in bumpers before the end of the season.

KARATCHI [FR]
br, g. Iris Noir [FR] - Eclipse Royalé II [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Lenny Lungo
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Karatchi is a five-year-old by Iris Noir, out of the mare Eclipse Royalé II, [who is an unraced daughter of Brezzo], who Lenny Lungo purchased at the 2002 Doncaster May Sale. Eclipse Royalé II 's dam Danse Royalé, has produced several winners in France, most noticeably Lady Royalé, [who won six races in France over obstacles] and Hidalgo Royal, [who won three races in France most noticeably the Prix Lutteur II Steeple-CH´. at Auteuil last year], so he is certainly bred to be a winner over obstacles... hopefully he'll show some potential this winter.

KIMONO ROYAL [FR]
br, g. Guard Royalé - Alizane [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Alan King
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Kimono Royal is at the time of writing an unraced five-year-old son of Guard Royalé out of a mare who has produced winners over jumps in France and Italy. He was bought for 41,000 gns. at Doncaster sales in May ´02 and could be worth noting for in a bumper at some stage this season.

KOBAÏ
b, g. Florida Son - Helen´s Birthday
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Alan King
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Kobaï is a four-year-old by Florida Son by the mare Helen´s Birthday, which makes him a full-brother to the useful hurdler/novice chaser Kurakka. He hails from a stable who do well in this discipline and could be worth noting next year in this type of event.

LAGO NAM [FR]
gr, g. Cardoun [FR] - Rivalago [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Martin C Pipe
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Lago Nam is a four-year-old by Cardoun, out of Rivalago [a daughter of Grey Dawn Ii], who was placed on the flat in France in the mid-1990s. He is unraced at the time of writing, however has a nice and hopefully will show some promise before the end of the season.

LANCE TOI [FR]
br, g. Lampon [FR] - Devant Spring [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Edward O´Grady in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Lance Toi is a four-year-old by Lampon, out of a Springs to Mind mare. Lance Toi was second in an Open Maiden point-to-point at Summerhill in April '03 before joining Edward O´Grady 's team for this season. He is sure to have been well prepared and can hopefully show some promise before the end of the season.

LASCAR DE FERBET [FR]
br, g. Sleeping Car [FR] - Belle De Ferbet [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- []
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Lascar De Ferbet is an four-year-old by Sleeping Car, who cost connections 20,000 guineas at the Doncaster May sale. He has a nice national hunt pedigree and could be a nice long-term prospect.

LENOTRE [FR]
bl, g. Lute Antique [FR] - Baie de Chalamont [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Ferdy Murphy
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Lenotre is an unraced four-year-old son of Lute Antique, out of a Balsamo mare, who was the sales topper at the Saint-Cloud breeze-up sales this summer. He has been pleasing connections at home and has potential.

L´OISEAU [FR]
br, g. Video Rock [FR] - Roseraie [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Lenny Lungo
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- L´Oiseau is a four-year-old by Video Rock out of a Quart De Vin mare, He´s only run once; at Kelso, at the beginning of May, where he was second to Minster Missile, [btn 1¾Lengths]. That was a fair effort and its interesting that connections believe that he is capable of better.. we shall see.

MRS. WALLENSKY
gr, m. Roselier [FR] - Shannon Dee
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Willie P. Mullins in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Mrs. Wallensky is a five-year-old mare by Roselier, by a daughter of Supreme Leader. She is a stoutly bred mare who probably will be seen to best effect when allowed to run over obstacles, particularly in mares´ only events.. Hopefully she´ll show some promise before the end of the season.

¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Martin C. Pipe

¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Paul F Nicholls
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Quid Pro Quo is a four-year-old by Cadoudal, [a sire I liked], out of an Armos mare, who has showing plenty of promise at home and hopefully will translate that in bumpers this winter.

ROC TREDUDON [FR]
b, g. Double Bed [FR] - La Belle Polonaise [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Paul Nicholls
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Roc Tredudon is a three-year-old by Double Bed out of a Bold Lad Mare who is a full-brother to three winners in France. I can see why Highflyers Bloodstock were keen on him and he is one to look out for in bumpers possibly during the second half of the season.

ROGUE ET NOIR
b, g. Hernando [FR] - Bayrouge
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Mary Reveley
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Rouge et Noir is an interesting prospect for this season. His breeder clearly had a flat career in mind for him, as both Hernando and Bayrouge were group class winner over middle distances on the level... clearly however he has taken a awhile to come to hand and that means he is eligible to race in bumpers... unless he fails to stay I´d be amazed if he didn´t land one this season.

SEA CAPTAIN
b, g. Oscar - Calabria
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Nicky J. Henderson
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Sea Captain is a three-year-old by Oscar, out of the mare Calabria, [a daughter of Neltino], who ran once for the Queen Mother in a bumper at Bangor in August '98, finishing fourth to Alta. Sea Captain is quite nicely bred, and has a jumping pedigree. I don´t expect much of him this term, however I will hope he shows some promise before the end of the season.

SECRET DES CŒURS, [FR],
b, g. Sleeping Car [FR] - Djebel Mik [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- []
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Secret des Cœurs, at the time of writing is unraced son of Sleeping Car, out of the mare Djebel Mik [who won eleven races and was placed on sixteen occasions]. ¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Sidalcea is a four-year-old filly by Oscar, by the mare Katday, which makes her a half-sister to Best Mate, Inca Trail, and Cornish Rebel. She is clearly a valuable commodity, whose connections will at the very least hope can will a race before the end of the season.

¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Alan King
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Sharaján is an three-year-old by Desert King, out of the mare Balakera, who is from the same family as that useful chaser Behrajan. He cost connections 110,000 guineas at the Derby sale this season. He is certain not going to be rushed and is horse for the future.

¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Snowy is a five-year-old by Pierre, out of the mare Snowy Gunner, [a daughter of Gunner B]. He has an interesting pedigree, which suggest that he will not only need time, but cut in the ground, however hopefully he will show some promise before the end of the season.

b, g. Jupiter Island - Loving Around
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Edward O'Grady
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Tengo Ambro is a four-year-old by Jupiter Island, out of the mare Loving Around, [a daughter of Furry Glen], who won the 126Th Year Of National Hunt Chase Challenge Cup Amateur Riders at the 1996 Cheltenham National Hunt Festival. This impeccable bred individual in perfectly bred for the jumping game and is worth noting this season for the future, where will undoubtedly come into his own.

¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- The Ashleybanker is a six-year-old by Supreme Leader, out of the mare Helenium Gale, [a daughter of Strong Gale], who raced over fences for Eugene M O´Sullivan in Ireland. ¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Jessica Harrington in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Ùlaan Baatar is a six-year-old by Jackson´s Drift, who has yet to run under rules, but hails from a yard adept at winning this type of event. Ùlaan Baatar clearly has been slow to come to hand, so my expectations will be low, but I hope he´s able to show some promise before the end of the season.

WORD GETS AROUND
b, g. King´s Ride - Kate Fisher
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Lenny Lungo
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Word Gets Around is a five-year-old by King´s Ride, out of the mare Kate Fisher; [a daughter of Siberian Express], who won on the flat and over hurdles. Word Gets Around has a nice pedigree and is worth looking out for in bumpers on the Northen circuit.

Success Stories

EPSOM
Saturday June 7.
KRIS KIN: Not certain to stay today's trip however there was plenty to like about the way he quickened to land the Dee Stakes at Chester on his seasonal reappearance. Sir Michael Stoute knows what it takes to win this race and the fact that they have stumped up £90,000 to supplement him has to be considered a positive.

SUMMARY
Ireland would appear to have a very strong hand here and it will not surprise me if both Alamshar and Refuse To Bend made the frame (wouldn't be at all surprised if Alamshar obliged). However as it's the Derby let's see if we can try and find something at a bigger prize particularly those who want to have an each-way bet. Whilst it's easy to see why the likes of Norse Dancer and Magistrettì might appeal, Kris Kin catches the eye, particularly after that good effort at Chester. There was a lot to like about that performance and at odds of around 10/1, should give each-way supporters a good run for their money.
That one was for you dad!!!

Success Stories

2:00 William Hill H´cap. Hurdle
A very competitive handicap hurdle with several of these having strong claims. Farmer Jack, Teaatral, Lord Brex, Aspirant Dancer, Creon, Mr. Markham, and Ideal du Bois Beury all have serious claims. Father Jack (who was probably ridden too positively last time out) is sure to go well and probably would have been my selection if Ideal du Bois Beury hadn't been in opposition. I thought he won with a bit in hand under top weight at Leicester last time out and looks very appealing off of the minimum weight.
IDEAL DU BOIS BEURY won - 10/1
