Whether
it be "th e race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs, we
will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the fancied

characteristics and requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides
you with a winner or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a
particular may even convince you to back some of those horses which we
feel are the "ones to fear", or have decent eachway claims.
whichever is the case, we hope the information is of use to you.

HURDLERS -
NOVICES [4-YEAR-OLDS+]
ACCORDION ETOILE
b, g. Accordion - Royal Thimble
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Paul Nolan in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Accordion Etoile is a four-year-old by Accordion, out of a Prince Rupert mare. He ran twice last term in bumpers; finishing second to Zum See at Punchestown in February, [btn a neck], before finishing 20lengths behind Selby Road in a similar event at Leopardstown a month later. He should have progressed during the summer and is a nice prospect for novice hurdles.
AIDE DE CAMP [FR]
b, g. Saint Preuil [FR] - Baraka [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Paul Nicholls
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Aide de Camp is an unraced four-year-old son of Saint Preuil, who has been pleasing connections at home. He has a chasing pedigree and will no doubt be better next term. Hopefully he´ll show some promise over the smaller obstacles this winter.
AVEC PLAISIR [GER]
br, f. Acatenango [GER] - Aminatá [GER]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Francis Flood in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Avec Plaisir is a four-year-old by Acatenango, who is having a fruitful time at present on the flat. Bought by connections to go jumping, Avec Plaisir has at the time of writing won twice at Fairyhouse and Leopardstown in August. Assuming connection don´t get too often to the well, she appeals as a prospective jumper and could be interesting in mares´ only races.
BACK TO BEN ALDERS
br, g. Bob Back [U.S.A.] - Winter Fox
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Nicky Henderson
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Back to Ben Alder retains his place in the list. He had a huge home reputation to live up to last season, and although he disappointed when running no sort of race in the Cheltenham Festival bumper in March, those, like me, who watched him saunter home at Kempton Park on his racecourse debut in January, will hope that he bounces back over hurdles this winter.
BLANC C´EST BLANC [FR]
ch, g. Royal Charter [FR] - Tamilda [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Arthur L. T. Moore in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Blanc C´est Blanc also retains his place in the list. This six-year-old son of Royal Charter ran twice having shown promise behind Thari at Leopardstown in December ´01. He was sixth to Leinster in a Maiden Hurdle at Down Royal in November ´02, before finishing sixteenth to Nil Desperandum a month later. Blanc C´est Blanc is being tenderly handled, suggesting that that they´ll be more to come from him as he gains experience.
BLUE BUSINESS
br, g. Roselier [FR] - Miss Redlands
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Paul Nicholls
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Blue Business is a five-year-old by Roselier out of the mare Miss Redlands, which makes him a half-brother to See More Business. He was slow to come to hand last term and only ran once, where he came second in a bumper at Chepstow, where he was doing all his best work at the finish. He has reportedly done well during the summer and is worth looking out for in staying novice hurdles this winter
BOURBON MANHATTAN
b, g. Alflora - Vanina II [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Alan King
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Bourbon Manhattan was a revelation last year and retains his place in this feature, having won two bumpers before running a super race to finish sixth in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham. He has reportedly schooled well over hurdles, and should pick up from where he left off
BOWLEAZE
br, g. Right Win - Mrs. Cullen
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Robert H. Alner
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Bowleaze is a four-year-old by Right Win, out of the mare Mrs. Cullen, [a daughter of Over The River]. He only ran last term, right at the end of the season, however that was a promising effort, winning an Exeter Open National Hunt Flat Race by 5lengths from Classify. He's sure to have improved on that effort and should progresses as the season continues... Hopefully he'll add to his tally this season.
C´EST FANTASTIQUE
b, m. Hernando [FR] - Dolcezza [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Michael J. P. O'Brien in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- C´est Fantastique is a six-year-old mare by Hernando, out of the mare Dolcezza [a daughter of Lichine]. She was a winner twice in Germany, before joining present connection from Eóghan´s O'Neill's stable. She's shown some promise on the flat but with her pedigree is definitely worth a try over hurdles, especially so much stamina in her pedigree. She's nothing special, however I hope she's capable of winning over obstacles this winter
CIRRUS [FR]
gr, g. Saint Preuil [FR] - Cirta De Champfeu [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Phillip Hobbs
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Cirrus is a four-year-old by Saint Preuil, out of a Cap Martin mare, who is one of several new purchases for Sir Robert Ogden this term. Saint Preuil is a sire whose progeny are doing particularly well over obstacles in France, so there probably plenty to look forward to over the coming seasons.. Hopefully he´ll show some promise over obstacle this winter
CORNISH REBEL
b, g. Un Desperado [FR] - Katday [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Paul F Nicholls
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Cornish Rebel is a good example of why we put bumper horses in One To Jump. Although he´d not raced this full-brother to Best Mate, is from a mating that in recent years, has done really well courtesy of not only Best Mate, but also his other illustrious brother Inca Trail. He was as green as grass on his debut however the sight of him cutting thrown the pack to beat Cloudy Grey on his debut was memorable and I´d forgive him a rather lack-lustre display in the Cheltenham Festival bumper, where his lack of experience was a huge negative. I´d be amazed if he failed to score this season and he should win races this term.
DANCER LIFE [POL]
b, g. Professional - Dýktatorkà [POL]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Jonjo O´Neill
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Dancer life is a four-year-old by Professional, who won six of his eleven starts in Poland, including the Derby Nagroda Prezydenta Rzeczpospolitej Polskiej - G3 [The Polish Derby], as well as the Nagroda St. Léger. He was third on his most recent start behind Caitano in a Group 3 about a year ago and has subsequently been bought to go jumping and has joined Jonjo O´Neill. He´s a nice horse and once he´s acclimatised should be good enough to win races.
DAWTON [POL]
br, h. Greinton [U.S.A.] - Da Wega [POL]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Tom. R. George
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Dawton is a five-year-old by Greinton, who has done well in his two seasons of racing in Poland. He is the winner of the Nagroda Golejewka - LR [Kat. B] over 2000m in June '02 and was also placed in behind Dancer Life in the 2002 Polish St Leger. He seems to appreciate a stiff test of stamina and would be a very interesting import, if he could translate some of that ability to obstacles
DÉJÀ VU
b, g. Lord Americo - Khalkeys Shoon
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--J. Howard Johnson
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Déjà Vu is a four-year-old by Lord Americo, out of the mare Khalkeys Shoon; a daughter of Green Shoon. He has yet to run on the racecourse, and is likely to need some time as he appears to have a chaser´s pedigree. However he´ll show some promise over obstacles this winter.
DICTUM [GER]
ch, g. Secret 'n Classy [CAN] - Doretta [GER]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Susan Nock
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Dictum is a five-year-old gelding by Secret 'n Classy, out of the mare Doretta, [a daughter of Aspros]. He ran eighteen times in Germany, winning eight times, including the Coolmore Stud Baden-Baden Cup at Baden-Baden in August '02, and the Flughafens Frankfurt-Trophy [Group 3] over 1m3f at Frankfurt two months later, as well as being placed on six other occasions. He has been purchased by present connections to go jumping and is an interesting recruit.
D´MONEYWILLCOME
ch, g. Be My Native [U.S.A.] - Flaming Hope
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Anthony J. Martin in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- d´Moneywillcome is a five-year-old by Be My Native, out of a Callernish mare. He had two runs in bumpers, probably running his best race when finishing eighth, 13½Lengths behind Rosy Rockford at Roscommon in June. He clearly is being brought along slowly and I´d hope to see some progression this winter
DOBBIESGARDENWORLD
b, g. Great Marquess - Rosy Posy
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Lenny Lungo
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Dobbiesgardenworld is a six-year-old by Great Marquess, out of a Roselier mare, who had three runs in bumpers, winning on his debut at Newcastle in December ´02, before finishing in the frame under penalties at Ayr and most recently Carlisle, where he finished third to Drombeag, [btn 4 ½ lengths]. He is sure to have been well schooled and should be capable of winning races in the north.
DONINGA HOUSE
ch, g. Glacial Storm [U.S.A.] - My Only Hope
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Jim T. R. Dreaper in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Doninga House is a five-year-old by Glacial Storm, out of a mare by Brave Invader, who has yet to run under rules, however did show some promise when second to Parsons Legacy in a Maiden point-to-point at Clonmel Racecourse in October ´02. He has since joined Jim Dreaper and I hope that by going to this "master" of bring on horses, we should see some evidence of further progression this winter.
DON VALENTINO [POL]
ch, g. Duke Valentino - Dona [POL]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Tom George
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Don Valentino was one of Poland´s better three-year-olds in 2002, finishing third to Dancing Life in the Nagroda Derby, Prezydenta R. P. in July as well as finishing fifth in the Nagroda Doris Day in May and Iwna [Przychówku] - L. R [Kat. A] in June. He made one appearance down the field at Exeter, in the spring and hopefully now that he has acclimatised could show some of that ability over hurdles this winter.
EDITION FRANÇAISE [FR]
ch, g. Garde Royalé - Bull Finch Aulmes [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Paul F Nicholls
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Edition Française is a five-year-old by Garde Royalé, who won an point-to-point for Sir Robert Ogden at Laos in April, when trained by Ted Walsh in the spring. He is still on the backward side so may take a while to get a hang of things, however I do believe he can win a race before the end of the season
ENNÅ [POL]
ch, m Don Corleoné - Elba [POL]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--[Tadeusz Debowski in Poland]
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Ennå is a four-year-old by Don Corleoné, out of a mare by Freedom´s Choice. Ennå was trained by Tadeusz Debowski in Poland, and won two of her fifteen starts between 1600 - 1800metres, and was placed on four other occasions other occasion. She was rated 70, in comparison to the 85 given to the highest rated horse Tùlipá, [as of 27.10.03]. and was purchased at the recent Polturf Horses-in-training sale at Sluzewiec racecourse. She might be worth a try over obstacles as her sire has a good record of producing winners in this field in Europe.
FARNAHEEZVIEW
b, g. Naheez - Sweet View
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Oliver M. C. Sherwood
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Farnaheezview is a five-year-old by Naheez, who joined present connections having shown winning form between the flags in Ireland, winning a maiden point-to-point at Athenry in March, before being purchased at Doncaster´s May sale. Difficult to evaluate the level of form shown, however I hope he can show enough to win a race this winter.
FIDÈLE GALOPIN [FR]
b, g. Comte du Bourg [FR] - Buff Beauty [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Willie Mullins in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Fidèle Galopin is another unraced five-year-old by the Group two winning sire Comte du Bourg, out of a dam who was placed over obstacles, Fidèle Galopin was bought at the ´01 GOFFS France Horses-in-Training sale and hopefully he can show some promise over hurdles this winter.
FIELD MARSHAL
b, g. Supreme Leader - Strong Serenade
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Edward O´Grady in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Field Marshal is a five-year-old by Supreme Leader, out of a mare by Strong Gale. He´s run three fives so far under rules, finishing second; 3½Lengths behind Champaigne Ronnie at Clonmel in February, before finishing 10th to Beef Or Salmon in a flat race at the Curragh. He was even money to win his final start at Sligo, however found Gotaknockonthehead ½Length too good. He will definitely be well schooled and should do well over hurdles this winter.
FLAME PHOENIX [U.S.A.]
br, g. Quest For Fame - Kingscote
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Paul R. Webber
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Flame Phoenix is a four-year-old by Quest For Fame, out of a daughter of King´s Lake, who won on his debut in a Ludlow bumper at the beginning of May, before running creditably in Maiden company on the flat in July, notably finishing third to Floreeda over 1m3½f at Yarmouth. [btn 13lengths], staying on stoutly in the final quarter mile. He hasn´t run since but this form is good enough to win a race over obstacles this winter.
FLYING LYRIC
b, g. Definite Article - Lyric Junction
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Alan King
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Flying Lyric is a five-year-old by Definite Article, out of a Classic Secret mare, who was a decent horse for Sean Woods two years ago, winning once at Bath in October ´00 but ran creditably in defeat on several other occasions, and distances up to 2miles. He´s injured himself after running sixth to Riyadh in Newmarket in October ´01, but has got a clean bill of health and is pleasing connections with a view to going hurdling. If he retains any of his ability he should be capable of winning a race

¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Freiwind is a six-year-old by Local Suitor, out of the mare Frei Geboren; a daughter of Dschingis Khan, who was a winner on the Flat in Germany. Freiwind ran fourty-two times on the flat, winning on six occasions, as well as finishing in the frame on eleven other occasions. FROM THIS MOMENT
b, g. Parthian Springs - Swatter
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Paul F Nicholls
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- From This Moment is a five-year-old by Parthian Springs, who won an point-to-point in Ireland at Ballyragget in March. He is still on the weak side so won´t be rushed but should be capable of making an impression over hurdles this winter
GARDE CHAMPÊTRE [FR]
b, g. Garde Royalé - Polka de Motrin [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Paul F Nicholls
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Garde Champêtre has yet to race over obstacles however he could do no more than win on his debut in a bumper at Royan at the end of April by 2 ½lengths from Radieux Kaldoun. This four-year-old by Garde Royalé could be anything and shown do well for Guillaume Macaire.. assuming of course he doesn´t sell him on to UK concerns.
GHOST RIDER
br, g. Good Thyne [U.S.A.] - Pit Runner
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Lenny Lungo
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Ghost Rider is a six-year-old by Good Thyne out of the mare Pit Runner; who won races over hurdles, who showed plenty of promise on his only start last term, where he finished fourth to Smithlyn in a bumper at Perth at the beginning of the season. He should have come on for that effort and came be placed to land a race, [or two] on the northern circuit.
GINGERSLOOKINGREAT
ch, g. Ashkalani - Just An Illusion
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Owen Brennan
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Gingerslookingreat is a four-year-old by Ashkalani, out of a daughter of Shernazar. He has only run once, however ran creditably when finishing fourth to Your A Gassman in a Southwell Open National Hunt Flat Race in May, [btn 17lengths]. He appeared to have plenty of scope , so I'd hope he can show some promise before the end of the season.

¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Charlie Mann
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Gold Summerland is a five-year-old by Learn by Heart, out of the Sabåra Raaphorst [a daughter of Glint of Gold]. She won seven of her twenty-seven races on the flat in Germany/the Netherlands for trainer Jan Pubben, [as well as finishing on the frame on twelve other occasions]. She is very difficult to evaluate, however she clearly posses some ability and may be worth looking out for in mares' only races
GRANDE JETE [SAF]
ch, h. Jallad [U.S.A.] - Truly Nureyev
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Nicky J. Henderson
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- The trend of going to Dubai to find jumping prospects gathers pace and after the success of Rosaker last season, will Grand Jete make it into the winners´ enclosure this time around. This son of Truly Nureyev ran 20 times in South Africa, winning seven times including in 2000 winning the Grade 1 Cape Derby over 2000m, and the Grade 2 Selangor Cup [over 1600 m], as well as in 2001 landing the Premier´s Trophy [over 1800m]. He was also placed in the Grade 1 J&b Met over 2000m in the same season. He was taken to Dubai where he ran four times, however he failed win although he did once make the frame. He is a complete unknown however were he to translate some of this ability he could be very interesting.
GRANDE CREOLE [FR]
b, g. Byzantium - Sclos [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Paul Nicholls
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Grande Creole is a lovely four-year-old by Byzantium, out of the mare Sclos, which makes him a half-brother to Glucose, who won over hurdles for Francois Doumen a few seasons ago. He is going to be a steeplechaser in time so its unlikely that the gun will be put to his head this term. The aim will be to win some novice hurdles with him and hopefully he can attain this target.
GRANNY KELLY´S TART
ch, g. Old Vic - Le Idol
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Willie P. Mullins in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Granny Kelly´s Tart is a five-year-old by Old Vic, out of a daughter of Le Bavard. He ran once last term, showing plenty of promise to finish fifth, 4Lengths behind the winner Manjoe. He can build on this experience and hopefully go on to win over obstacles this winter.
GREY REPORT
gr, g. Roselier [FR] - Busters Lodge
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Phillip Hobbs
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Grey Report is a six-year-old by Roselier who was purchased by present connections after winning point-to-points in Ireland this spring at Lingstown and Camolin. He is sure to have been well schooled and I´m hoping that he has the speed to win over hurdles this winter
HANNON [FR]
br, h. Exit To Nowhere [U.S.A.] - Delphania [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Ted Walsh in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Hannon is a four-year-old son of Exit To Nowhere, out of the mare Delphania, a daughter of Fabulous Dancer, who won over 10f in France and is a half-sister to the useful French middle-distance stayer Dona Bella. He has joined Ted Walsh after showing creditably form on the level for Richard Hannon winning once at Newmarket last July. I´ve always thought he possessed the scope to do well over obstacles so it´ll be interesting to see how connections place him this winter.
HENRIETTA
b, m. Hushang - Jennie´s First
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Martin C. Pipe
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Henrietta is a five-year-old daughter of Hushang, out of the mare Jennie´s First, which makes her a half-sister to winning chaser Horus. Henrietta joins Martin Pipe, after racing in the David Pipe academy last season. She ran twice last term, falling three out when looking the likely winner of a Confined Maiden point-to-point at Buckfastleigh in February. She then ran in a Open Maiden point-to-point at the same venue a month later, and after looking in a hopeless position four out swept through in pleasing fashion to beat Go Boy decisively. She´s a promising prospect and whilst she may not match the achievements of her half-brother is definitely an interesting prospect in mares´ only races.
HIT THE NET
br, h. Be My Native [U.S.A.] - Thetravellinglady
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Tommy Stack in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Hit The Net retains his place in this list after two solids efforts last term; winning a Limerick bumper by 5Lengths in December ´02, before running good in defeat behind John Oliver in a similar event at Naas in February; making ground on the winner in the final furlong to finish only 2Lengths behind him at the post. This attractive five-year-old entire by Be My Native should have progresses again during the summer and should do well in novice company.
KADOUNT [FR]
br, g. Our Account [FR] - Une de Lann [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Alan King
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Kadount is a five-year-old by Our Account, out of a Spoleto mare, who was recently purchased from France in their equivalent of bumpers; winning four and finishing a close fifth in their championship race. He´s a nice promise who should find some opportunities once he´s fully acclimatised
KASTHARI
gr, g. Vettori - Karliyka
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- J. Howard Johnson
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Kasthari is a four-year-old by Vettori out of a daughter of Last Tycoon. He ran ten times on the flat for Sir Michael Stoute, winning his second start at Windsor in May '02 and was placed on several other occasions, developing into a useful stayer, who this season was campaign in Group company. He was a good third to Mr. Dinos in the Henry II stakes at Sandown, and capped that by only finishing 10lengths behind the same horse in the Gold Cup at the Royal Meeting. He was purchased at the Tattersalls "Horses-in-training" sale, and being rated 109, could be an interesting purchase if he can translate some of that ability to hurdles this winter.
KELLY [SAF]
b, g. Ethique [ARG] - Dancing Flower [SAF]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Venetia Williams
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Kelly is a six-year-old by Ethique, out of a Dancing Champ mare, who was a useful performer when trained by Mike De Kock in South Africa, winning fives races, the best of these being the Gold Bowl [Grade 1] at Turfontein in April ´02. He was transferred to Dubai and ran four times, running his best race in the Al Rashidiya Prep [Conditions Race] in January, where he beat all bar Nowrass [finishing 2lengths behind the winner]. His last start was when he came 10th to Emteyaz in the Godolphin Seven Stars, [btn 18½Lengths], at Nad El Sheba in March, and he has been subsequently purchased by present connection to race over obstacles. He could be anything, however I´d hope he´d be capable of winning a race this season.
KENT [POL]
ch, g. Freedom´s Choice - Kalambia [POL]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--[Malgorzata Lojek in Poland]
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Kent is a five-year-old by Freedom´s Choice, out of a Lord Hippo mare, who won races in the early 199os . Kent was trained by Malgorzata Lojek in Poland, and won three times between 1600 - 1800metres, but was placed on many other occasion. He was rated 69, in comparison to the 85 given to the highest rated horse Tùlipá, [as of 27.10.03], and was purchased at the recent Polturf Horses-in-training sale at Sluzewiec racecourse. Once he acclimatises, he could be a nice recruit to jumping.
KEN´TUCKY [FR]
b, g. Video Rock [FR] - La Salamandre [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Nicky J. Henderson
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Ken´tucky is a five-year-old by Video Rock, out of a daughter of Pot d´Or. Ken´tucky is related to several winning chasers in France and shaped encouragingly over obstacles last term in three bumpers, running his best races when finishing third to Hawk´s Landing at Kempton on his debut in January, [btn 5½Lengths], before getting within a length of Native Star in April. He´s going to need a distance of ground to be effective and is an "embryonic" novice chaser and should be treated as such, rather than a horse likely to make his mark over hurdles.
KERÇABELLEC [FR]
br, g. Useful [FR] - Marie De Geneve [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Nicky J. Henderson
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Kerçabellec is a five-year-old by Useful, out of a daughter of Nishapour. He ran last year over hurdles; the first time when trained by Guillaume Macaire in France. He was second to Heritier at Fontainebleau in February ´02, [btn a length]. He then joined present connections and showed plenty of promise when finishing 4¼Lengths behind Beyond The Pale at Newbury in December. He should have fully acclimatised and should be capable of winning a similar event before the end of the season.
KIM FONTAINE [FR]
br, g. Silver Rainbow - Blanche Fontaine [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Willie P. Mullins in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Kim Fontaine is a five-year-old by Silver Rainbow, who ran three times last term; winning on his debut at Thurles in January, where he beat Köln Star by 3 ½ lengths. He then took his chance in the Cheltenham Festival bumper, where he was a fair eighth to Liberman, [btn 11lengths]. There is plenty to like about him and I doesn´t stretch the imagination to see this horse doing well over obstacle this term.
KVALENTENžÒ [FR]
b, h. Orival - Fay [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- [Noël Meade in Ireland]
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- I´ll be hoping to see whether Kvalentenžò makes in to the racecourse this term, as he has been on this list ever since Noël Meade bought this gelding at GOFFS´ Summer Sale in 2001. He has yet to race over rules but this son of Orival out of Fay [placed on the flat and over obstacles, who is closely related to Cyfor Malta] has made some appearance between the flags in Ireland, the best of these being a second in a maiden point-to-point at Tyrella in February... clearly he needed time to mature, however hopefully he came make some impact in bumpers this term.
LADALKO [FR]
br, g. Kadalko [FR] - Debandade [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Paul Nicholls
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Ladalko is a four-year-old by Kadalko, out of a Le Pontet mare, who showed plenty of promise on his only start to date over hurdles at Auteuil at the end of April, where he chased home The Servant, [who has won again since]. He wouldn´t have to improve much to win a novice event over here this winter, however there is a chance he may go steeplechasing... the more conventional route is probably best.
LALAGUNE [FR]
br, f. Kadalko - Dontella II [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Alan King
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Lalagune is a four-year-old mare by Kadalko, out of a Breezo mare, who showed some promise in a couple of bumpers last summer. She hasn´t been rushed and could find some opportunities in mares´ only races.
LIBERIA [FR]
b, g. Kadalko - Unica IV [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Nicky J Henderson
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Liberia is a four-year-old by Kadalko, out of the mare Unica IV, [a daughter of Quart Du Vin]. Liberia showed sign of ability when trained by Guy Cherel in France, finishing runner-up to Ennemï d´État in the Prix Vertige Haies at Auteuil last month. That was a fair effort, which you'd hope would be good enough to win a race in this country this season.
LIRTA [FR]
gr, g. Art Français [U.S.A.] - Sirta [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Phillip Hobbs
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Lirta is a four-year-old by Art Français, out of the mare Sirta, [a daughter of Le Pontet]. He has joined present connections after showing promise when trained by Etienne Leenders in France. He finished second to L´Ange Au Ciel, [also in this list], in the Prix Alfred Torrance Haies [Maiden Non-Thoroughbred] in January, as well as finishing second in Hautclan in the Prix Thuya Steeple-CH´ [Non-Thoroughbreds] at Auteuil in May, and Lutteur De Farges in the Prix Djarvis Steeple-CH´ [Non-Thoroughbreds], two weeks later. This is decent form and if he reproduces it in this country, should be able to win races this season.
LISSNABRUCKA
b, m. Lord Americo - Judy Henry
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Jonjo O´Neill
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Lissnabrucka is a five-year-old mare by Lord Americo, out of the mare Judy Henry, [a daughter of Orchestra]. She has never raced under rules however she showed plenty of promise between the flags in Ireland last term winning a Mares Maiden point-to-point at Tallow, in February, before landing a "Winners of three" point-to-point at Kildorrery, two weeks later. She has plenty of potential and is worth looking out for in mares' only novice hurdles.
LOOPY LINDA
b, g. Simply Great [FR] - Albane
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Tim D. Easterby
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Loopy Linda is a five-year-old by Simply Great, out of a daughter of Shirley Heights had five runs last term, four of which were in bumpers, winning twice at Doncaster and Musselburgh in December. He had one run over hurdles, at Leicester in January, however found conditions too testing and was beaten 55Lengths by Tana River. That wasn´t his form and with that experience under his belt should do well in novice events this winter
LOUP [FR]
b, g. Cyborg [FR] - Quintessence [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- James Fanshawe
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- I´ve been waiting for this one to appear since purchasing the ´01 version of Horses in Training book. Loup is a full-brother to Hors La Loi III, and showed plenty of promise in two A.Q.P.S in France when trained by Francois Doumen. He has since been transferred to James Fanshawe 's yard and hopefully he can go on to progress further over obstacles this winner.
LOWLANDER
b, g. Fuji Kiseki [JPN] - Lake Valley [U.S.A.]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Dermot K. Weld in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--If I were to buy a horse from the flat to go jumping, then Lowlander would be the sort of horse I´d go for. This by the Japanese sire Fuji Kiseki ran thirteen times on the flat [a bit too much in my view as a potential jumper], winning four times this term at Down Royal in June, Galway in July; Fairyhouse in August and at the Curragh, where he beat American Gothic in the E. B. F. September Handicap. He was strongly fancied to land the Irish Cesarewitch on his last start but disappointed eventually finishing well behind the winner American Gothic. He earned a rating of 100 that day and he was always likely to attract interest at the recent Horses-in-training sale. Dermot Weld had to dig deep to get him, purchasing him for 125,000gns. He is likely to be a dual purpose horse for the moment, so he may not be seen too often over hurdles, however there won´t be many with better credentials and he definitely one to look out for.
MAITRE LEVY [GER]
b, g. Monsun [GER] - Meerdünung [GDR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Martin C Pipe
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Maitre Levy is a five-year-old by Monsun, out of the mare Meerdünung, who has joined present connections after winning three of his twenty-one starts in Germany for trainer Mario Hofer. He was campaigned up to Group level and most recently won the Abu Dhabi-Cup [Listed] at Baden-Baden in August ´02, as well as running well in defeat behind Tempelwächter in the Preis der Ford Werkes AG [Listed] at Köln in October, and most recently he was sixth to Olaso in the Betty Barclay-Rennen [Group 3] at Baden-Baden this May. He´s an interesting prospect and I´ll be interested to see how he does
MAKE HASTE SLOWLY
b, g. Terimon - Henry´s True Love
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Henry D. J. Daly
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Make Haste Slowly is a six-year-old son of Terimon, out of the mare Henry´s True Love, who has produced several winners over obstacles over the years, the most recent being his half-sister Parlour Game. He ran once last season, showing plenty of promise when finishing second to Soho Fields in a bumper at Ludlow in November ´02 and wouldn´t need to improve much on this effort to be capable of winning a maiden hurdle before the end of the season
MENDOSINO [GER]
b, g. Acatenango [GER] - Maji
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Venetia Williams
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Mendosino is a four-year-old by Acatenango, out of the mare Maji, [a daughter of Shareef Dancer], who won over 1m4f at Catterick in August '92. He ran nine times on the flat for Peter Schiergen in Germany, winning once as well as finishing in the frame on four other occasions. He was campaigned at group level at three, however didn´t cut much ice behind Next Desert in the Oppenheim-Union-Rennen [Group 2], [where he finished sixth btn 13lengths], as well as in the 2002 BMW Deutsches Derby [Group 1], where he a well beaten thirteenth. He is an interesting newcomer who is sure to have been well schooled by connections for this campaign over hurdles.
MEDICI [FR]
br, g. Cadoudal [FR] - Marie De Valois [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Jonjo O´Neill
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Medici is a five-year-old by Cadoudal, out of a mare by Moulin, who showed plenty of promise on his only start to date, looking menacing as he closed on the principals off the final bend, only to weaken from two furlongs out, eventually finishing fourth; 17Lengths behind the winner Cloudy Grey. That was good form, and he should be capable of winning a race, if he translates this form over hurdles this winter
MICKEY CROKE
b, g. Alflora - Praise The Lord
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Charlie R. Egerton
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Mickey Croke is a five-year-old by Alflora out of a daughter of Lord Gayle. He ran twice over bumpers last term, finishing sixth to Cloudy Grey at Hereford in December [btn 14Lengths], before going back to the same venue two weeks later and win a similar event by a neck from Wrags To Riches. He is held in some regards by connections so hopefully he can build on this over hurdles this winter.
MILLER´S BAY
ch, g. Karinga Bay - Millers Action
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Henrietta Knight
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Miller´s Bay is a five-year-old by Karinga Bay, who ran creditably in each of his three runs in bumpers last term, finishing second to Patriach Express at Cheltenham in October '02, before going to Hereford in November where he cruised home by 12lengths. He took his chance in the championship bumper at Cheltenham and didn´t disgrace himself finishing 5th, only 7lengths behind the w inner Liberman. We can expect further improvement during the summer and he should make his mark in the novice hurdle division this winter.
MONET'S GARDEN
gr, g. Roselier [FR] - Royal Remainder
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Nicky G. Richards
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Monet's Garden is a five-year-old by Roselier, out of a daughter of Remainder Man. He only ran once last term, but caught the eye when travelling sweetly throughout before quickening to land an Ayr bumper by ½Length, from Dark Character. He has bags of scope and looks to have a good future ahead of him... hopefully he can win his races in the North over hurdles this winter.
MR. BABBAGE
b, g. Carroll House - Winsome Doe
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Willie P. Mullins in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Mr. Babbage is a five-year-old son of Carroll House, who showed promise in each of his three starts, winning on his debut at Clonmel in February, before running respectably in the Cheltenham and Punchestown Festival bumpers behind Liberman and Royal Rosa respectively. Mr. Babbage is sure to be well schooled and we´re hopeful that he will get into the winners´ enclosure this winter
MYSTERY [POL]
br, g. Java Gold - My Secret [GER]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Tom R. George
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Mystery is an purchase from Poland. This five-year-old is a winner of one start in Germany, however in 2002 developed into Poland´s top-rated older horse, by virtue of wins in the Prezesa Rady Ministrów LR [Kat. A], over 2600m at the end of June, as well as finishing a good third to Dancer Life in the Nagroda St. Leger - LR [Kat. A] is September and fourth in the Nagroda WIDZOWA in June... He should want a trip over obstacles and will need cut in the ground to be seen at his best.
ONWARDSANDUPWARDS
br, g. Un Desperado [FR] - Kalifornia Katie
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Paul Nicholls
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Onwardsandupwards is a four-year-old by Un Desperado out of a Sharp Charter mare, who ran once for present connections after being purchased from Tom Costello in Ireland. He ran once at Taunton in January and only by a neck from Ramirez, however that distance in no way reflects his authority, and he could have won if so desired. Hopefully he´s done well during the summer and should add to that tally over hurdles this winter.
PADDY THE PIPER
b, g. Witness Box [U.S.A.] - Divine Dibs
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Lenny Lungo
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Paddy The Piper is a six-year-old son of Witness Box, out of a daughter of Raise You Ten. He ran in four bumpers last term, showing promise in his first two starts before winning his final two starts at Catterick in February, where he beat King-For-Life by a length, before being 2Lenggths too good for Gary´s Pimpernel and fifteen other rivals at Wetherby a month later. He should have strengthened up during the summer and is a nice horse for Lenny Lungo to go to war with on the Northen circuit this winter.
PATCHES
br, g. Presenting - Ballykilleen
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Paul F Nicholls
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--I was fairly certain that Patches would at some stage race in this country as I noted that his current owner Paul Barber was down as the owner when he won a maiden four-year-old point-to-point at Lismore in March. I read that he is now with Paul Nicholls and he should be another interesting hurdler for this yard this season
PATRICKSNINEENTH
b, g. Mister Lord [U.S.A.] - Many Miracles
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Paul R. Webber
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Patricksnineenth is a six-year-old by Mister Lord, out of a daughter of Le Moss, who ran promising in each of his three starts in bumpers last term, winning on the second attempt at Sandown in February before running better than fifteenth suggests in the Martell Champion Standard National Hunt Flat Race [Grade 2] at the Grand National Meeting. He is a lovely prospect and should be good enough to win over hurdles this term, however he will be even better over fences in due course.
PLUMIER [FR]
b, g. Beyssac [FR] - Plume Rose [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Jonjo O´Neill
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Plumier is a five-year-old by Beyssac, out of a mare by Rose Laurel. He gets into this list by virtue of the promise shown on his debut in a bumper at Ascot in February, where he showed promise before finishing 39Lengths behind the winner Mister Mustard. He was expected to build on that effort next time out, over hurdles at Huntingdon a month later, however everything went wrong - his rider lost his irons after the third and soon lost his place. He did make headway before weakening after the eighth, eventually pulling up before 2 out. Hopefully he´s better than that and can prove that over hurdles this winter.
POACHIN´ AGAIN
b, g. Supreme Leader - Ariannrun
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Arthur L. T. Moore in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Poachin´ again was given a typically sympathetic first season over obstacles only running twice, however were he to replicate the level of form shown when chasing home Thaïx at Leopardstown in December [btn. 6lengths] a win in maiden company should be a formality.
QUARANTINE
ch, g. Fourstars Allstar [USA] - Bella Travers
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Michael J. P. O'Brien in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Quarantine is a five-year-old by Fourstars Allstar, out of Bella Travers, [a daughter of the sire Soughaan]. He ran twice last term, finishing eighth to Govamix in a Leopardstown bumper in December '02, [btn 36lengths], before showing some hints of possible ability, before coming twelfth to Mcgruders Cross in a similar event at Fairyhouse a month later. He took the eye, so I'll be hoping that he shows some more promise over obstacles this winter.
RANDOM NATIVE
br, g. Be My Native [U.S.A.] - Random Wind
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Tim J. Fitzgerald
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Random Native is an attractive six-year-old by Be My Native, out of a daughter of Random Shot. He ran three times last term in bumpers, winning on his seasonal appearance at Catterick in January, before a creditable effort when finishing 3½Lengths, third to Paddy The Piper, at Wetherby in March. He had one more start at Carlisle in April, where he outstayed thirteen rivals to win by 4lengths. He's a nice prospect, who should win his races this season over hurdles.
RICK
ch, g. Grand Lodge [U.S.A.] - Friendly Persuasion
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Anthony Martin in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Rick is a five-year-old by Grand Lodge, out of a General Assembly mare, goes jumping after winning twice on the flat, on both occasions at Fairyhouse. He is lightly raced having not raced since his three-year-old days, due to injury - however that may be a blessing and Tony Martin is a genius of placement... You can imagine him winning a race during the season.
ROYAL CORROUGE
b, g. Corrouge [U.S.A.] - Time in Life
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Nicky J. Henderson
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Royal Corrouge is a five-year-old by Corrouge, out of a daughter of Bishop of Orange. Royal Corrouge joins current connections having been unbeaten in three point-to-points. He won an Open Maiden point-to-point at Alnwick in January, before going on to win a Restricted point-to-point at Wetherby a month later by 25 lengths and an Intermediate point-to-point at Corbridge in March by 17 lengths in the fastest time of the day. He was clearly destined to become an Open point-to-point performer, so his move to Nicky Henderson has to be viewed as positive. He should win more races this season.
SALTANGO [GER]
br, g. Acatenango [GER] - Salde [GER]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- [P. Rau in Germany]
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Saltango is a four-year-old by Acatenango, out of the mare Salde, [a daughter of Alkaide], who won 3 races in Germany including the Dortmunder Stutenpreis, [Listed race], and has produced four winners including Saldenschwinge, who won 5 races in Germany, including the Deutscher Stutenpreis, [Gr.3] and P. Jubiläums. Firma Jungheinrich Gabstapler, [Gr.3]. Saltango won 2 races [over 8f. - 10f.] at 2 and 4 years in Germany, and was placed 5 times, including coming fourth in Preis de Winterfavoriten [Gr.3]. He was purchased at the Tattersalls "Horses-in-training" sale, and appears to have some potential.
SARATOV [GER]
b, g. Acatenango [GER] - Sovereign Touch
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Jonjo O´Neill
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Saratov is a four-year-old by Acatenango, out of a daughter of Pennine Walk. He ran eight times in Germany, without winning, [although he did finish in the frame six times], before joining present connections, however he made a highly promising debut over hurdles at Warwick in January, where he was in the process of running a good race when falling two out, gifting the race to Mughas. That was probably a decent effort and he wouldn´t have to improve much to go one better this season.
SEÇAM [POL]
gr, g. Alywár - Scytia [POL]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--[Grzegorz Witold Wróblewski in Poland]
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Seçam is a four-year-old by Alywár, out of a Euro Star mare. Seçam was trained by Grzegorz Witold Wróblewski in Poland, and won four times, including the Nagroda Wójta Gminy Stawiguda over 1600metres in September. He was rated 70,5, in comparison to the 85 given to the highest rated horse Tùlipá, [as of 27.10.03], and was one of the horses I´d short-listed as a possible purchase at the recent Polturf Horses-in-training sale at Sluzewiec racecourse. He has plenty of scope and is worth a go over hurdles
SIMOUN
b, g. Monsun [GER] - Suivez [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Martin C. Pipe
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Simoun is arguably one of the best flat recruits to go hurdling this season. This five-year-old son of Monsun ran twelve times when trained by Peter Schiergen in Germany, winning five times including the Großer Mercedes-Benz-Preis [Group 2] at Baden-Baden in June '02, and Idee Hansa-Preis [Group 2] at Hamburg, three weeks later, as well as finishing in the frame on five other occasion. He has a middle-distance background, which should be ideal, and if he takes to the game, could excel at this discipline... however lets not get carried away.
SIXO
gr, g. Roselier [FR] - Miss Mangaroo
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Martin C. Pipe
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Sixo had a pleasing first season in bumpers last term, winning his first two races at Newton Abbot in November ´02 and Newbury a month later, with a lot in hand. He then went to Newbury on his final start in the Aon Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race [gr. 2] and ran creditably. finishing third to Cornish Rebel [btn 12Lengths]. He lacked a change of pace that day and will be seen to go effect this winter in long-distance novice hurdles, and should have another good season.
SMART [SLO]
b, h. Glenstal [U.S.A.] - Satyra [POL]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Mark Pitman
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Mark Pitman purchased Smart from the Czech Republic last season. He had three runs on the flat, failing to trouble the judge on his debut in September ´02. That effort clearly did him the word of good as he came out three weeks later and landed the Cena Žrebcína Kobylany a Gestüt Güthler Hof-Kuchyna at Bratislava at the end of the month. He had one more start when finishing a good third to Romans [who went on to be on of their better three-year-olds] in the Odvetná cena again at Bratislava in October ´02 and was being talked of as a possible for the Slovak Derby just before he was bought so its clear he possess some ability... it´ll be interesting to see how he performs.
STAR ANGLER
b, g. Supreme Leader - So Pink
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Henry D. J. Daly
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Star Angler is a five-year-old by Supreme Leader, out of the mare So Pink, a daughter of Deep Run, who won a bumper as well as over hurdles when trained by Paddy Mullins. He only ran once last term, however it was an encouraging effort, finishing second to Tighten Your Belt in a bumper at Stratford in March, [btn 7length]. That was a decent effort and should be good enough for him to win a race this winter.
STEPPES OF GOLD
b, g. Moscow Society [U.S.A.] - Trysting Place
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Nicky G. Richards
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Steppes of Gold is a six-year-old by Moscow Society, out of a daughter of the sire He Loves Me. He ran once last term in a bumper at Newcastle in April, where he travelled nicely throughout and, despite running a bit green, ran out a workmanlike winner by 1¾Lengths from Oodachee. Steppes of Gold is a big, scopey sort, who looks a proper jumper in the making and will almost improve for going over obstacles this winter.
SUPREME ATTRACTION
b, m. Supreme Leader - Tourist Attraction
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Noel T. Chance
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Supreme Attraction is a six-year-old by Supreme Leader, out of the mare Tourist Attraction, a daughter of Pollerton, who won the 1995 Supreme Novice´ Hurdle at The Cheltenham Festival. She´s a valuable prospective broodmare, who added to her value when winning a bumper at Warwick on her second start. Supreme Attraction made a promising hurdling debut, at Huntingdon on her only other start in December ´02, travelling well until just out speeded from the home turn, eventually finishing four length behind the winner. That was a good effort and connections persevere with her she looks sure to win races over hurdles, [particularly mares´ only races].
SWORDLESTOWN
br, g. Zaffaran [U.S.A.] - Carrick Shannon
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Ted M. Walsh in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Swordlestown is a five-year-old son of Zaffaran, out of a Green Shoon mare who showed a little bit of promise when chasing home Rediscovery in a novice event at Punchestown in May. He did appear to be on the backward side and can only improve on this effort this winter. Steeplechasing with bring out the best in him so I have no high expectations this term.
SŽEROKÍ BÓR [POL]
br, g. In Camera - Sžuaña [POL]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Mark Pitman
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Sžerokí Bór is a four-year-old by In Camera, out of a Five Star Camp mare, who won five of his thirteen starts when trained by Dorata Kaluba in Poland. I really like him and had been trying to persuade a friend to buy him since he won the Sac-A-Papier over 3200 metres at the end of last term, something that took on more priority after he won the Nagroda Golejewka [Kat. B] over 2000 metres at the end of May, which made him the top rated older horse in Poland, unfortunately for me and my friends Mark Pitman also saw the potential and got him first... I´m pleased he´s going jumping and I really hope he settles in and shows some of his talent this season
TARENO [GER]
b, g. Saddlers´ Hall - Triclaria [GER]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Barney Curley
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Tareno is a five-year-old by Saddlers´ Hall, out of a daughter of Surumu, who won four of his sixteen starts, including the Preis der Sparkassen Finanzgruppe [ex Spreti-Rennen] [Group 3] at Baden-Baden in August ´02, and the Premio Federico Tesio [Group 3] in October ´02, where he beat amongst other Sunstrach, who next time out won the Premio Roma-SIS [Group 1] at Capennelle, with Imperial Dancer, Rakti, Island House and Chancellor well behind him. He also took on Marienbard in the 2002 Grosser Preis von Baden [Group 1] and finished 10lengths behind the Prix de l´Arc winner. He is another talented purchase by Barney Curley, and could be interesting if he shows some aptitude for the game.
THAMES
b, g. Over The River [FR] - Aon Dochas
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Nicky J. Henderson
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Thames is a five-year-old son of Over The River, out of a daughter of Strong Gale. He ran twice in bumpers last term, finishing a creditable third on his debut at Haydock Park in March to Vodka Bleu, [btn 16Lengths], before finishing fourth to Classic Native in the Martell Champion Standard National Hunt Flat Race [Grade 2] at the Grand National Meeting. He is a lovely prospect and should be good enough to win over obstacle this winter he may be even better over fences in due course.
THE BOYS IN GREEN
b, g. Shernazar - Mursuma
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Christy Roche in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--The Boys In Green is a novice hurdler to look out for this season. This six-year-old by Shernazar, is a son of Mursuma, which makes him a half-brother to Joe Mac and Direct Route. He seems to have inherited some of that ability, as he was a promising second to Kniaž on his only start in a novice hurdle at Punchestown in March. That was a promising effort and he wouldn´t have to improve much to go one better this season.
TIGHTEN YOUR BELT,
b, g. Phardante [FR] - Hi´ Upham
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Venetia Williams
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Tighten Your Belt, is a six-year-old by Phardante, out of the mare Hi´ Upham, which makes him a half-brother to high-class chaser Native Upmanship. He was a warm order to win on his racecourse debut at Stratford in March and duly obliged disappoint, eventually grinding up a 7lengths success. He was upped in class next time out and didn´t disgrace himself, finishing third to Classic Native in the Martell Champion Standard National Hunt Flat Race [Grade 2] at the Grand National Meeting. He is a lovely prospect and should be good enough to win over obstacle this winter he may be even better over fences in due course.
TÒRÝT [POL]
b, g. Beaconsfield - Toraña [POL]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--[Maciej Janikowski in Poland]
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Tòrýt is a four-year-old by Beaconsfield, out of a mare by Dixieland. Tòrýt was trained by Maciej Janikowski in Poland, and won six times, most recently the Nagroda DIPOLA - [Kat. B] over 2400m in at the end of October. He was rated 80,5, in comparison to the 85 given to the highest rated horse Tùlipá, [as of 27.10.03], and was one of the horses I´d short-listed as a possible purchase at the recent Polturf Horses-in-training sale at Sluzewiec racecourse. He is a nice prospect and should do well over hurdles, once fully acclimatised.
TRABOLGAN
b, g. King´s Ride - Derrella
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Nicky Henderson
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Trabolgan didn´t win last term, in fact, he finished second in three bumpers... they were bad efforts though and I suspect there is a many a trainer who would lover to have this son of King´s Ride after his second to Chelsea Bridge at Kempton Park in February.. or more significantly, his second to Liberman in the Cheltenham Festival bumper. Assuming he schools well it will be a surprise if he doesn´t win a race this season and its useful to have a few "certainties" in the list.. don´t you think?
TÙLIPÁ [POL]
ch, f.. Jape [U.S.A.] - Truely Best
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Tom George
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Tùlipá is a four-year-old filly by Jape, out of an Omen mare, who has joined Tom George´s yard after winning six of her fifteen starts in Poland. In winning her last start; the Wielka Warszawska. Nagroda Prezydenta M. St. Warszawy - G3 [Poland´s richest race], She took over the position as highest rated "older horse" by beating a field including this season´s Derby Winner Jóung Islander, and Królowa Gwiazd, who´d previously carried all before him before this. She is a decent filly and could do well if she translates that ability to hurdles.
UN INTELLO
gr, g. Funambule [U.S.A.] - Une Pensee [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Edward J. O´Grady in Ireland
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Un Intello, is a five-year-old by Funambule, who won five race on the Flat, when trained by Jean-Claude Rouget in France. He didn´t make the frame in three attempts over hurdles, however showed signs of ability on each of those starts against useful opposition. Improvement can be expected and he could be interesting when allowed to run in handicap company this winter, though a win in a maiden is not out of the question.
UNLOCKED
br, g. Supreme Leader - Shunnagh Lass
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Phillip Hobbs
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Unlocked is a five-year-old by Supreme Leader, out of a daughter of Buckskin, who won a Confined Maiden Point-to-point at Dundrum, Co. Tipperary at the end of March - the first of two runs in this discipline. He was purchased by connections at Doncaster´s May sale is a nice chasing prospect for the future.
VIVID IMAGINATION
b, g. Moonax - Sezu
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Martin C. Pipe
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Vivid Imagination is a big backward four-year-old by Moonax out of a mare by Mister Lord. He got into this list, despite seeming to poorly on his only start at Newton Abbot in August, always struggling to keep in touch before running on to finish 29Lengths behind the winner Xellance. That isn´t the great bit of form, however this horse can only improve as he matures and I wouldn´t be surprised if he bettered that effort before the end of the season.

¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»-- Xerxes is a five-year-old by Sir Brink, out of the mare Sirta, who is by Le Pontet, [which makes Xerxes a half brother to Lirta, who is also in this list]. He took the eye before running disappointing behind Flower Of Pitcur in a bumper at Huntingdon in March, [btn 47lengths]. I have to hope he is better than this, unless he will struggle to win, however I´ve decided to go with my first instinct... Lets hope I was right!!!.

He has been pleasing connections who talk of him as a nice long-term chasing prospect.. he certainly has the potential to do well over hurdles.
