Analysis & Selections by

Ò rØøk

Whether it be "the race of the day" or a small prize round the gaffs, we will attempt to use our knowledge of the formbook to highlight the fancied horses participating each day and their characteristics and requirements. Hopefully this 'second opinion' provides you with a winner or two each day, or even reinforces your own view on a particular may even convince you to back some of those horses which we feel are the "ones to fear", or have decent eachway claims. whichever is the case, we hope the information is of use to you.

"ONE TO JUMP '04" - A selections of horses we believe are worth following during the national hunt season.

CHASERS ~ CHAMPIONSHIP CLASS?

LE ROI MIGUEL [FR]
br, g. Point Of No Return [FR] - Loumir [U.S.A.]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Paul F Nicholls
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Le Roi Miguel took a while to come to hand over fences, and second placings behind One Knight at Chepstow and Impel at Sandown suggested that he may prove to be disappointing. He really came of age during the spring and after falling in the Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival pulverised good fields at Aintree and Punchestown. I can see further improvement in him and it wouldn´t be the greatest surprise if by the end of the season he wasn´t challenging for Championships over the minimum trip... we shall see.

SLEEPING NIGHT [FR]
b, g. Sleeping Car [FR] - Doll Night [FR]
¦¨¨the¨trainer¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Paul Nicholls
¦¨¨COMMENTS¨¨¦¨¨¨»--Sleeping Night is another useful performer returning to the racecourse. He has joined present connections from Mary Reveley, having shown high-class form in Britain and France, over hurdles and fences, the race that immediately springs to mind was his second in the Charlie Hall Chase on his British debut. He has been back in work since July and we like what we see. Could go for the Charlie Hall on November 1 or the Champion Chase at Down Royal a week later, but we won´t risk him on the current ground. Could develop into a Gold Cup outsider, and I wouldn´t rule out running him in a big staying hurdle along the way.

Success Stories

EPSOM
Saturday June 7.
KRIS KIN: Not certain to stay today's trip however there was plenty to like about the way he quickened to land the Dee Stakes at Chester on his seasonal reappearance. Sir Michael Stoute knows what it takes to win this race and the fact that they have stumped up £90,000 to supplement him has to be considered a positive.

SUMMARY
Ireland would appear to have a very strong hand here and it will not surprise me if both Alamshar and Refuse To Bend made the frame (wouldn't be at all surprised if Alamshar obliged). However as it's the Derby let's see if we can try and find something at a bigger prize particularly those who want to have an each-way bet. Whilst it's easy to see why the likes of Norse Dancer and Magistrettì might appeal, Kris Kin catches the eye, particularly after that good effort at Chester. There was a lot to like about that performance and at odds of around 10/1, should give each-way supporters a good run for their money.
That one was for you dad!!!

Success Stories

2:00 William Hill H´cap. Hurdle
A very competitive handicap hurdle with several of these having strong claims. Farmer Jack, Teaatral, Lord Brex, Aspirant Dancer, Creon, Mr. Markham, and Ideal du Bois Beury all have serious claims. Father Jack (who was probably ridden too positively last time out) is sure to go well and probably would have been my selection if Ideal du Bois Beury hadn't been in opposition. I thought he won with a bit in hand under top weight at Leicester last time out and looks very appealing off of the minimum weight.
IDEAL DU BOIS BEURY won - 10/1
