CHEPSTOW
Wednesday 27th December
12:40 Stereophonics Play Here Handicap Chase Class D
<H> __
"THE ROOK" __ Francolino, so disappointing on his last start at Newbury, will probably ensure a decent pace, and I think that will set the race up for Guns N Roses and Guilder to battle to battle out the finish. Gun´n Roses never fulfilled the promise of his early form, when in the care of Micky Hammond, but he may be transformed now he's with martin Pipe. He is one to note for the future. Guilder bar for a fall two out last time out at Plumpton, may well still have been unbeaten thus term, and is probably still weighted well enough to take this
'No.1 CHOICE' __ Guilder
(e/w) Alternative? __ Gun´n Roses
1:10 betexchange.co.uk Handicap Hurdle Class D
<H> __ HARVIS
"THE ROOK" __ Harvis , who led on the bit 2 out, when winning impressively at Leicester over 2m 4f last time out, may be up to conceding weight all round to this field in the second
'No.1 CHOICE' __ Harvis
(e/w) Alternative? __ Selberry,
1:40 Welsh Finale Junior Hurdle Class A Grade 1
<H> __ CAESAR'S PALACE
"THE ROOK" __ What price Bilboa here?!!....... Francois Doumen's french entries have carried all before them of late. Christopher Iles who pinpointed Fordmont to you yesterday has highlighted all of the french runners on his 'Focus on France' page ... Reading between the lines there isn't probably that much between Bilboa, and Jair du Cochet on their recent meeting at Auteuil and it will be interesting to see how the bookies price these two up. .. Frankly I think Caesar's Palace, Spirit of Park, and Fait Le Jojo are up against it.. If the reports about Bilboa are true, then she's a decent filly who'll be too good for these, ...but after First Gold yesterday she will be no price at all. Spirit of Park will try to stretch these and that will place the emphasis on stamina. Caesar's Palace who beat Fait Le Jojo at Cheltenham by outstaying his rivals looks the sensible choice
'No.1 CHOICE' __Bilboa
(e/w) Alternative? __ Caesar's Palace
2:15 Coral Eurobet Welsh National Showcase Handicap Chase Class A Grade 3
<H> __ KAKI CRAZY
"THE ROOK" __ Twenty horses line up for the main chase of the day, of those the following appeal;
YOUNG KENNY ~ who rallied to such great effect to beat Ardent Scot at Aintree in November
KING'S ROAD ~ The Hennessy winner who was put in his place by Bobby Grant at Haydock last time but this stamina test will be more to his liking..... worrying stats about the Hennessy form though
GOOD LORD MURPHY ~ should be suited by trip if judged by his win over Eau De Cologne at Ascot last time out.
EDMOND ~ Last year's winner who put in a satisfactory effort behind Moral Support here over 3miles
DOM SAMOURAI ~ Extremely well handicapped on his best form but has been absent for 18 months,.. the change of scenery may have done his some good
KAKI CRAZY ~ I approached Martin Pipe about his French imports,, and after studying the form book, and consulting with Christopher, he came out as one of the positives.....My gut feeling after his British debut was that this trip was too far, but he has bits of form in France that make him interesting eachway, though it's a hard ask for a 5 year old
MORAL SUPPORT ~ vastly improved relative of Dorans Pride, he was an impressive winner of the Rehearsal Chase but this will be a harder 'ask'
ARDENT SCOUT ~ Solid effort behind Luzcadou at Newcastle last week in a 2m 4f hcap hurdle, and
will be trying to reverse Becher form with Young Kenny... solid eachway claims.
SPANISH MAIN ~ A little out of the handicap, but his novice form with Hati Roy looks good after that horse lowered Behrajan colours. He must go well
ROYAL TOMMY ~ Progressive chase who won well here over 3m 2f beating Parahandy by 5lengths, and should go well.
HORSE SENSE -
Moral Support has carried all before him this term, and will a popular choice to take this prize, connections are talking about the Gold Cup with him, and if he's up to that he must win this off of 10-4. Personally he has risen so much in the weights , that its conceivable that he is beatable against well-handicapped opponents
Not many horses win the Welsh Grand National twice, but Edmond despite going up in the weights has been presented with a great chance off of only 10-10, and at the very least in my view is a great eachway bet ... I'll go with him
There are several eachway options in this, Spanish Main, and Kaki Crazy look the best in my view of them. I wouldn't put you off of Spanish Main whose form with Hati Roy looks so solid however I'm always thought a bit about Kaki Crazy, and he has been laid out for this. I still have reservations about the trip (which is why I suggest Spanish Main if you prefer) but I suspect the horse is better than he showed at Cheltenham. Dom Samurai is well in on his best effort and at 80/1 he'd be worth a fun bet
'No.1 CHOICE' __ Edmond
(e/w) Alternative? __ Kaki Crazy
LONGSHOT __ Dom Samourai
2:50 Tintern Abbey Novices' Chase Class D
<H> __ HARASARAH, and QUAINTON HILLS
"THE ROOK" __ Harasarah, has started to translate the ability he showed in France... he trounced Ardfinnan by 30lengths at Plumpton last time, and whilst I'm fearful of Frantic Tan, who is pleasing connections at home, his experience/ability may negate the weight difference,
'No.1 CHOICE' __ Harasarah,
(e/w) Alternative? __ Asparagus,
3:20 Hotray Builders Novices' Hurdle Class D
<H> __
"THE ROOK" __ Cresswell Native, is likely to prove popular after Belle Macrae' s easy win at Wincanton yesterday, however Tango Royal is as interesting if he is amongst the top six 4-year-old chasers in France . I don't know whether 'B A Kilpatrick' (owner of Dom Samurai, Sabin du Lour, etc) has always owned him, but as his current registered owner his future may lie here.... If he can produce that form he'll win .... he's worth chancing despite the record of french trainers (bar Francois Doumen)
'No.1 CHOICE' __ Tango Royal
(e/w) Alternative? __My Baton
3:50 Chepstow 'Championship' Stakes Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race Class A Grade 2
<H> __
"THE ROOK" __ The bare form of the last suggest it isn't as good as previous renewals, however Sparkling Sword, Fireaway, The Bajan Bandit, Junkanoo, Micksie Palmer, and, are nice individuals who will be winning over obstacles before long. The Bajan Bandit, an easy winner at Ayr 45 days ago gets a marginal call over Fireaway
'No.1 CHOICE' __ The Bajan Bandit,
(e/w) Alternative? __ Junkaroo
