Alton Station - Staffordshire

Landmark number two for this particular group was just as much fun, if not moreso than Beamsley that went before.

Me, Jason, Caroline, Jo, Joe and Andrew lived in this old railway station for a long weekend that went far too fast even though it felt like we were there for ages! If ghosts exist, then many of them surely reside at Alton Station and this made for much merriment alone! On top of the ghostly activities were some creative ones... Each of us came along with a task of some description that over the weekend were completed, some photographic evidence of this can be seen below.

If you fancy staying in this building or any of the others available, visit the website of The Landmark Trust

1. Here it is, Alton Station. It's in the little town of Alton which is famous for the Alton Towers theme park.

2. Sorry, you missed the train and indeed the track! They left about 40 years ago...

3. ...Just as well really, playing around on the railway isn't big or clever children.

4. Living amonst wildlife we blended in by becoming squirrels and rabbits, which is which?

5. Spooky castle that rose above our abode, very Austrian we thought, where is Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?

6. Oh I just liked this, strange blobby creature this way went!

7. The spooky castle mentioned earlier was quite a walk but worth it for the view.

8.Captain Griffiths waving off the travellers.

9.Champagne on the lawn. We did our best to be 'old people', note the blankets and pained expressions...

10. Two old hags come begging for a nacho nibble and sip of the Champagne...

11. ...They were hastily dispatched with some traditional cursing and firm marching orders!

12. The lantern making task...

13. Joe was perhaps the bravest, choosing to cut into his lantern before applying sequins.

14. Andrew gently applying paint whilst balancing five bottles of wine on his shoulder.

15. Jo using the 'tongue of concentration' method. Look at it, all little and pink!

16. The artist at work, Andrew adds paint before writing the corporate guidelines for lantern use.

17. Jason went one step further and made a little fuzzy-wuzzy bear!

18. Joe in bed working hard on a script for a future episode of Coronation Street?

19."Cos you're my lady, and I am your man". A rare snap of Miss J, all dressed up for the sunshine.

20. Each Landmark property has a logbook going back years, that are an essential part of the visit.

21. This beautiful waterfall was about a 40 minute walk from our station. A really cute place.

22. Holding hands in the woods, this wouldn't be a good place to get lost.

23. Peace, quiet and raucous laughter I think you'll find hactually thankyou very much.

24. Oops! This was funny for everyone but Joe and Caroline who ended up in the river!

25.Peek-a-boo! Joe and Andrew in their room and Jason in ours, nice balcony sir.

26.More balcony antics. Jo and Jason snapped by me from above.

27. Caroline and Joe making novel use of the window frame.

28. One of us is terrified, one of us is laughing uncontrollably, both of us are hysterical!

29.The Paper Plane Activity. Mine was the orange one which flew rather nicely.

30. "The Chained Oak", there's a spooky ride at Alton Towers all about this very tree.
