Andrew Milton's Book, Film and Theatre Page

Only one page for books, film and theatre? Well, originally it's because I'm lazy, so lazy, and don't read, view and audience as much as I should. You can go to sections in this page on:

Books

A few rambling book thoughts.

I am now mosly reading my friend Stuart long-awaited game book: "The Lords of the Night: Vampires". I assure you that this is not my normal type of reading. But you should buy it because Stuart is a very nice person, and the book transports you into a dark world which you will never want to leave. Available on Amazon in the UK and in all weird booksellers. ISBN: 0-9543735-0-2 See Stuart's Bottled Imp Games site for more details.

I have a very bad habit of reading several books at the same time and never seeming to finish any of them. Books currently on the go include The Roads of the Roma, which is mainly poems, with a bit if the history of the unkind treatment they have received over the centuries, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudixe, Huw Wheldon's history of the First World War and the undreadable last volume of Lord of the Rings.

Films/movies

The most recent film which I saw was 21 Grams, which was mostly pretty good, if very raw in its emotional content: the dramatic consequences of an accident and revenge. One of those jigsaw puzzle films where it's all in the wrong order and you have to work out which scene comes after what. Helps keep you awake.

And now for some film-related links:

Theatre

Th most recent theatre I saw was 'Ladybird' a very harrowing play at the Royal Court, set on the worst council estate in the worst town in All The Russias. Very bleak. Cheered myself up later the same week by seeing a stage version of Round The Horne. Bona!

When I lived in Sheffield I went a lot to the excellent Crucible and Lyceum theatres, each in its own way a gem. I still like to go back from time to time. And if you live in the area, you should too!

Have a look at the Sheffield Theatres site.

Television

I was one of the ITV Digital monkeys. Paid a year's subscription in advance. And lost it when the company went bankrupt. From now on I'm resolved to watch a lot less TV, which is probably a Good Thing. Especially as I've just bought a DVD player, and we get BBC News 24, etc through the Intranet at work.

I am supposed to be able to get digital TV at home, but the reception is awful. I blame the Bellway flats which have just been erected opposite my home. Grrr!
