14. Edward Alfred Striker

Edward Alfred Striker was the father of my maternal grandmother, Ethel Kitty.

According to his birth certificate, Edward Alfred Striker was born on 7 June 1885 at 12 Venue Street Bromley. The registration district was Poplar and the sub-district was Bromley in the County of Middlesex. His father was Edward Francis Striker, a Merchants Clerk by profession and his mother was Annie Striker, formerly Langley.

At the time of the 1901 Census, he was 15 and living with his family at 7 Steatfield Ave, East Ham, and was workng as a warehouse boy .

Their marriage certificate states that Edward Alfred Striker and Ethel Harriett Neaves were married at the Parish Church in the Parish of West Ham in the County of West Ham on 6 June 1908. Edward Alfred Striker was aged 22 Bachelor, an Engineer at 18 West Road. His father occupation was by now Caretaker.

My maternal grandmother Ethel Kitty was born on 6 December 1908 at 18 West Road, West Ham, Middlesex, London. Edward Alfred Striker was then a telephone instrument maker (journeyman): [pretty high tech for those days].

When his daughter married in 1931, he described himself as an engineer.

At the time of his death in 1954 he was 68 years old and described as a retired electrical engineer. The cause of death was left ventricular failure and pumonary tuberculosis (fibrosis left lung).
