17. Rebecca Haysom

Rebecca Haysom was born c 1835-6, in London, Middlesex, England.

The Haysoms seem to have originated in Dorset, and were often stonemasons by trade, according to various postings on the Internet.

According to her marriage certificate, Rebecca's father was William Henry Haysom, a Packer by profession.

James George Milton married Rebecca Haysom in Stepney on 25 Dec 1859, Saint Dunstan, Stepney, London, England. According to her marriage certificate, Rebecca was 22, a cordwainer, living at 27 Erith[?] Street. The witnesses were [?] Haysom and Jane Milton. Rebecca made her mark, suggesting she could not write.

The young family are in the 1861 census. They were living at 17 Samuel Street. James George Milton was the head of the household, occupation Boot Closer, born Middlesex in what looks like Tower Ward. Rebecca his wife was 24[?}, born in London Mall [or Wall?]. They had an infant son James George, born in St George East. They were no longer living there in 1871.

She features in the 1881 census, living with her family at 13 North Street, Hackney. She was aged 44, born in London, Middlesex, England. Her occupation was 'Boot Machinist'. She had the following children:
