Andrew Milton's 1901 Census Page

In August 2003, I finally got round to paying up and searching the 1901 UK Census online. The result is a snapshot of my various families scattered around the East End of a London in the middle of the Boer War, at the very start of Edwardian era, when Britain was under the yoke of a belligerent, reactionary Conservative government.

How things have changed since then!

Anyway, far from Westminster, here is where my families were on the night of the 1901 Census. [My own comments are in square brackets]

At the time of the 1901 census, my great-grandfather has left Suffolk and was a boarder with the family of a fishmonger at 8 Albion Street in West Ham. His entry says that he was born in Claydon in Suffolk, was single, and gives his occupation as 'barman'. [oops I forgot to write down his age, but it was early 20s]
