31. Sarah Ann Hicks
Sarah Ann Neaves, nee Hicks, was the mother of Ethel Harriett Neaves.
The name is quite common, so I'm having problems pinning down her birth certificate.
Living with her father Henry Hicks and paternal grandmother Harriet Hicks at 53 Plaistow Road, West Ham, Essex, at the time of the 1881 census:
| Name | Marr | Age | Sex | Birthplace |
| Harriet Hicks | M | 63 | F | Walsham Abbey, Essex |
| Henry Hicks | W | 42 | M | West Ham, Essex |
| Harriet Hicks | M | 37 | F | West Ham, Essex |
| Robert Hicks | U | 37 | M | West Ham, Essex |
| Sarah Hicks | U | 25 | F | West Ham, Essex |
| Elizabeth Hicks | U | 15 | F | West Ham, Essex |
| William Hicks | U | 10 | M | Forling, Surrey |
According to their marriage certificate, George Neaves and Sarah Ann Hicks were married on 22 January 1882 in Emmanuel Church in the Parish of Forest Gate. He was 22 and a Laborer [sic] and she was 25. Their residence was simply given as Upton. Her father was given as Henry Hicks, Confectioner. The witnesses were Henry Hicks and Marian Hicks.
At the time of the 1901 Census she was 45, and living with her family at 18 West Road, West Ham.
