Electrical

A Laptop is under the front seat, along with a small inverter.

This along with a USB GPS and a touchscreen gives me SatNav.

I use PC Navigator as a TomTom-a-like system.

There is a keyboard and mouse tucked away, but the touchscreen will drive the SatNav quite happily.

The screen was originally installed in that position, as I didn't want to put ugly fixings in the dash, in case I wanted to resale the vehicle.

I've done so many mods now, I might as well continue.....

A rear lamp, manually switched, but can be used for reversing.
Its extendible, for lighting up the campsite.

I want to replace the 55W halogen bulb with an LED for lower power consumption

I constructed this tray for a 2nd battery.

Only a couple of pipes and wires had to be re-routed.

Exisiting captive nuts were used, except on the flange on the bulkhead, I had to drill a couple of holes here.

I managed to squeeze in a 110AH lesuire battery.

This will run the fridge etc.

A secondary fuse box was installed, for everything coming from the leisure battery.

There is a split charge relay. The relay closes when the alternator begins charging.

Its a heavy duty relay (100A), and fat cabling to enable the best possible charge

A voltmeter measures the voltage at the secondary fuse-box.

With the ignition on, the voltmeter measures the current in the 2nd battery, but when the engine is running the split charge relay joins both batteries together for charging, and it reads this combined voltage.

Why is there a buzzer inside the vehicle, to tell you are in reverse ?

It drives me mad.

Here is the buzzer, forward of the auto shifter, under the centre console trim.

Its the brown sheath of wires that does the reverse based buzzing, trace those cables to behind the hi-low shifter, and there is a multi-plug connector, which can be disconnected.

Here is another buzzer. The white box is behind the kick-panel in the passenger footwell.

This one buzzes when you've got the keys in the ignition, and the doors open.

Well it doesn't now - I've disconnected this one as well.

I've added a couple of cigarette sockets to the left of the steering column.

One goes to each battery. I've got a solar panel that can rest on the dashboard, I can plug it in here, to charge either battery.

The factory plug is ignition controlled, so that is no good for battery charging.

This is the factory fuse box under the bonnet. Only the fuses used are wired up - what a shame.

But the maxi fuses are on a bus, and there are a couple of live points here.

An oversize spade connector and inline blade fuse holder is an easy way to get power to the above socket.

I can now use my 13W solar panel to trickle charge my batteries using the above sockets.
The ICE install uses blue lighting, to try and harmonise the interior, I changed the lighting in the instrument cluster from green, by removing the green caps on the bulbs, and applying blue nail polish !!

It hasn't worked as well as I hoped, as there is green in the instrument masks, but it has toned it down a little.
