Isuzu Loadbay, this is version 2, almost certainly
there will be a version 3, or at least a v2.1
 |
This is the setup I've been running with for the last 12 months.
It works very well for most things, but with a big SuperMarket shop etc,
I don't have much boot space left. |
 |
With no small amount of work - I've managed to move the fridge over
9.5" This gives me a huge increase in contiguous boot space |
 |
This is the final version as of June 2008 A rubber mat hopefully
will make things a bit quieter, and the tie-downs should keep it in
place
Drop down table and hot water sink make it a veritable camp kitchen.
A cargo net over the fridge stashes my sleeping bag and air-bed, |
 |
With the back seat dropped out of the way, a T-Max double
pumper 12V compressor just manages to squeeze in. I've left the
original over-centre catch in place. Options are good. |
 |
This mod was all made possible by converting the Engel to
side-hinged. I had planned to do this a while ago, but stumbled across
a kit from the USA to make it all nice and easy
Kevin has detailed the install
here. The kit was shipped to the UK with no problems, and you
couldn't deal with a nicer guy. |
 |
In order to support the fridge, I had to extend the floor, which
meant making a frame. I've cut away the plastic, and beat on some of
the internal panels to get every little bit of space back.
I've even attacked the plastic trims around the window with a hot-air
gun, to gain enough space for the fridge to nestle right up to the edge
of the space.
Apologies for the brown interior - its the price I have to pay for
running an Isuzu |

There are a few advantages that might not be immediately obvious The
hinge kit Kevin supplies, has friction hinges, so you open the lid, and
it stays up, and doesn't fall off. Only the owner of an Engel fridge
will comprehend just how cool this is !!
I can open the lid enough to get the basket in/out, so there is no
need for a slide kit with the associated weight/cost.
The lid can also be opened from the back seat, so its easy for the
kids to pass me a cold beer when I'm driving !!!
Enjoy :-)
