Every space should have something to put in it

Under the rear seat storage

Under the backseat of my Isuzu BigHorn was a storage tray.

With the tray in place, there wasn't really enough space for my jumpleads.

But take the tray out, and there is a bunch of space.

I had some long items I wanted to store.

They wouldn't fit through the hatch, and lifting the seats, especially with kiddy seats is a PITA.

Time to make some cuts here.

Lifting the carpet out the way reveals the battlefield.

I believe the black curved sheet metal to the left, is just to make the carpet look pretty.

As with the rest of the Isuzu - no soundproofing to be seen anywhere.

Get out the hole-saw to make a giant pilot hole.

This allows me to mark out the first pass of cuts.

I've already trimmed the tin panel to make the aperture as big as possible.

Hole cut with an angle grinder.

I don't believe its compromised the strength of the vehicle in anyway.

Give the rough edges a quick file, and a coat of green Hammerite, for rust-proofing.

Green Hammerite isn't going to be any use for touch-ups is it ?

With the carpet replaced a hole cut, and the edges glued down, you can see the space available.
Considering the jump leads wouldn't really fit in the original tray. I've managed to fit all this junk,
  • Grounsheet
  • Jumpleads
  • Legs for interior storage system
  • Misc yellow rope
  • Coleman fuel for stoves
  • Solar shower
  • Warning triangle
  • Awning poles
  • Flag pole
  • Jack handle

and there is space to spare

:-)

Under the front passenger seat

There is a lot of wasted space under the front passenger seat.

I chopped this tray down to size and filled it with the various lights I use around the vehicle and for camping.

It just fits nicely under the seat.

I've trimmed some of the plastic around the seat base. Tidied some of the wiring, so it lays flat, and removed the stoopid plastic foot rest.

and just pushes nicely out of the way.

The fact that I had a tray in the exact brown as the interior remains one of life's great mysteries.

Something a lot more interesting is going under the drivers seat, that inverter is going to get relocated for a start.
