Cage
This is my first attempt at tube bending.
I used a Tubela tube bender.
Think clearly, and measure and visualise several times before bending,
especially the 3-D bends
 |
I mocked up a very basic cage in plastic pipe Just to give
me some reference points |
 |
Tube bender in action Do it at night, to make it harder. |
 |
Get the B-pillar to follow your chalk template. I didn't
expect this to go right first time but it did.
2-D bends are easy, mitring 3-D bends - that's hard.
Use wet concrete so the chalk doesn't work !! |
 |
To mitre the bends use a
tube
coping calculator and then hack it out with a grinder |
 |
With a bit of care and practice, you should get nice joints.
Welding them up neatly on the vehicle - well that's a whole new skill. |

and now with a bulkhead out of 3mm steel. Fireproof and nice
and strong for hanging the pedal box off. |
